GOP Pundit Claims Trump’s Presidency Is “Effectively Legislatively Over” After Obamacare Fail [VIDEO]

The New York Daily News reports:

Following the collapse of the “skinny” Obamacare repeal bill Friday, one pundit has declared the Trump presidency as good as finished. Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday, Sen. Ted Cruz’s former Communications Director Rick Tyler said, “I think this presidency is effectively over.”

Tyler told the show’s co-host, Mika Brzezinski, that, “If you look back to different presidencies, you look at Bill Clinton. He had a rough first two years — very, very difficult two years. But after Oklahoma City he was able to regain his footing and become presidential until he slipped on a blue dress.”

Tyler continued to censure the President, adding, “But this President cannot change. Nothing about his behavior tells me, since the beginning of this process, that he was going to change. And if you cannot change and you cannot become presidential, and you cannot convince the majority of the American people to enact some legislative agenda that he wants passed, his presidency, legislatively, is effectively over.”

You may recall that Cruz fired Tyler last February after he promoted a video which he claimed showed Marco Rubio saying that “not many answers” are in the bible. In fact, Rubio had said that the bible contained “all the answers.”

Those tax cuts don’t pay for themselves. It aint over.

    • Mike__in_Houston

I agree. This is not the first time that our side has said, “Hooray, it’s over!” and it wasn’t.

      A couple of other observations:

God bless John McCain. I never thought I’d find those words coming out of my mouth (or keyboard), and I will still never forgive him for inflicting that malignant and festering growth Sarah Palin on this country. But I love the irony that the Republicans were begging McCain to get out of his sick/death bed to please come to Washington, and he did it, but the results were not quite what they expected. Did McCain do it, at least in part, to get back at 45 for his tasteless “I like people who weren’t captured”? (And notice how he changed his tune to “hero” when McCain decided to come back to DC.) God, I hope he did it to get back at 45. 45 would have done the same thing in a heartbeat. And don’t take my word for it. All the best people are saying so.

My only regret, and it is a yuuuuuge one (well, besides the fact that I don’t think this will ever be over; seven years of repeal votes, anyone?), is that this result encourages the millions of morons who voted for 45 to think, “Well, no matter how stupidly I vote, there will always be somebody out there to protect me from the consequences of my imbecilic decisions.” Well, in case you idiots hadn’t noticed, this was an extremely close call. Time to wake up and realize that “Well, gee, I have always voted Republican” may not be the best reason to continue doing so, even if this were still your father’s Republican party, which it definitely isn’t. Not that that one was all that great either…

Bravo, Republicans. You have become so adept at obstruction that you find yourselves unable to achieve even your own agenda when you control the Executive and Legislative branches.

    • thatotherjean

You have to have an agenda, first. They’ve been “the (dis)loyal opposition” for so long, they’ve forgotten what they’re for, except more money for the rich, even if comes at the expense of the poor.

      • Craig Howell

In the eyes of the GOP base, that’s a feature, not a bug.

Trump’s Presidency Is “Effectively Legislatively Over.” Pity that Trump’s Presidency Isn’t literally over.

      • JaniceInToronto

Because the Dems lost to them. I am really disappointed in the Dem party. They have let the right run roughshod over them.
        Too nice, maybe?

    • Tomcat

When you decide to make a blanket statement like that, it would be nice if you gave at least one fact to back it up. And losing a election that was rigged by Russia is not one of them.

  • Tomcat

Just heard Corker on MSNBC, cannot stand that whiny nasal drawl of his.

  • Trump may have an opportunity for some OTJ training, if only he was willing to rely on advice from people other than sycopants and psychopaths. I’m learning that by doing his worst, he has found a way to bring out the best in people like John McCain, Orrin Hatch, Joni Ernst, and now James Mattis.

Maybe, just maybe, McConnell can use his failed Obamacare repeal efforts to show Trump and the House that it is time to try to work with the Democrats. (Whatever drug I must be on . . . I don;t really expect anything of the sort )

    • Natty Enquirer

Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of our butts. McConnell is the supreme partisan, willing to sacrifice the entire country for the good of his party.

      • Steverino

His whole sob speech last night was all about “the other side” “celebrating.” That’s all this means to him and the GOP, the Dems and libs supposedly gloating precisely as both he and the cons would have done had the vote went the other way. It is all a win-or-lose, hooray for our side game with them, rather than really do what is good for the country.

        Disgraceful.

    • Chucktech

Yeah, Trump gets the Mulligan of OJT but Obama was soooo unqualified, what with being a “community organizer” and only one term in the Senate. Plus “awl that book lernin” he had…

  • TrueWords

I am just curious “when did it start”?

    • ultragreen

So far, Trump’s legislative agenda (or what passes for one) hasn’t even got off the ground. He’s been trying to enact his agenda with dubious executive orders and by his executive and judicial appointments.

  • PiperPine

Unless the house and senate flip in 2018 (unlikely and over a year away) then this is not the case. Even if the legislature is ground into the muck by their own incompetence the Executive Branch still has a lot of power. So as cheery as the idea of Trump withering on the vine is I remain skeptical.
