Hate Group Hates Being Called Hate Group

In their story about Jeff Sessions’ speech to the Alliance Defending Freedom, ABC News referred to them as an “alleged hate group.” And they are furious:

ABC News has committed journalistic malpractice. For ABC News to essentially cut and paste false charges against Alliance Defending Freedom by a radically left-wing, violence-inciting organization like Southern Poverty Law Center is a discredit to ABC News and to the profession. Americans’ trust in media is cratering, and the blatant bias and lack of professionalism that ABC attempted to pass off as news can only serve to confirm and intensify that distrust.

Alliance Defending Freedom is one of the most respected and successful Supreme Court advocates in the legal profession, having won seven cases at the high court in the last seven years. Southern Poverty Law Center spends its time and money attacking veterans, nuns, Muslims who oppose terrorism, Catholics, Evangelicals, and anyone else who dares disagree with its far-left ideology.

Meanwhile, ADF works every day to preserve and affirm free speech and the free exercise of religion for people from all walks of life and all backgrounds because we believe freedom is for everyone. For the sake of its own integrity, ABC News should issue an apology to Alliance Defending Freedom and retract the defamatory story it published Wednesday.

For those unaware, the Alliance Defending Freedom openly advocates for criminalizing homosexuality.

  • Gay Fordham Prep Grad

“But ya are, Blanche, you are a hate group!”

  • Rex

    Well, bless your heart.
I believe they’re just exercising, now what’s that called?
    Freedom of Speech?

  • bkmn

I see we are using truth to persecute them again.

    • Uncle Mark

“And the truth shall set ye free”. They were disappointed that it didn’t set them free to persecute others. “More freedoms for me; less for thee”

    • David Walker

“Alleged” obviously doesn’t fit their tirade criteria….as in “alleged hate group.”

  • David W. Shelton

Well, I tell you what, ADF twats – stop lying about the LGBT community and trying to put us in jail just for being gay, and you might get that label removed. Until then, feck off.

  • kaydenpat

Sadly ABC may end up apologizing for a perfectly legitimate statement.

    • Dave F.

‘We apologize that you are offended at being called a “hate group”.’ should suffice.

      • Tomcat

Or we are sorry people are saying you are a hate group.
        Don’t kill the messenger.

        • swimboy

We are sorry that you’re offended by people who are calling you a hate group. We’re just reporting the news.

          • Todd20036

We are sorry that you are sorry that you were called a hate group by people who determined you are a hate group because you advocate jailing of a minority for a non reality based reason.
We are also sorry that you are sorry for being sorry for being in a hate group.
But mostly, we aren’t sorry. Fuck off.
I’d love to see ABC say that.

    • David Walker

I hope that “alleged” frees them from apologizing and instead makes for a really snarky reply.

  • Ninja0980

I’ve been saying it all week and I’ll say it here.
You fight to uphold laws that call for LGBT people to be jailed solely because you think your religious beliefs give you the right to so.
That is as hateful and evil as it gets.

    • Steverino

If not jailed, then publicly shunned and humiliated (discrimination based upon “sincerely held religious beliefs”) will do.

      • Todd20036

Well, to be fair, I’ve done that to some people….

        • MonochromeMouse

There’s nothing wrong with discriminating against people based solely on the choices they have made. Discrimination is only wrong when it’s against someone for something they have no choice or control over like gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, hair color, nose length, eye color, etc.

          • prixator

That’s why no evidence, scientific or otherwise, will ever cause them to change their “belief” that sexual orientation or gender dysphoria is a “choice”.

      • RoFaWh

I’m still hoping for a trial in which a lawyer asks a hater to please enumerate and explain those s.h.r. beliefs and then shoots big holes in their pseudo-explanations.

  • TrueWords
    • David Walker

Do we know what “Muslims who oppose terrorism” group they’re talking about? Or did their list of things they “allegedly” hate somehow merge with SPLC’s list? I find “attacking veterans, nuns” &c. pretty unsubstantiated, too, but the “Muslims who oppose terrorism” group is intriguing. Or are they projecting far more than DeVry and Bell&Howell put together?

  • what a bunch of whiny ass tittiebabies. your primary mission is deny people equal rights, all while blustering about jeebus as if everyone shares your narrow minded, idiotic faith. and fuck you ABC for using the word “alleged.”

  • Dave F.

Too bad that throwing a hissy fit isn’t fatal.

  • Steverino

    Alliance Defending Fallacies.

    • David Walker

Long week. I thought you wrote Falacio. Obviously I’ve been rolling my eyes way too much.

  • safari

Upset about an allegation. Hurls allegations themselves. Sounds right.

  • Tomcat

Learn from the pros. The republicans would have said they have been called a hate group and that would allow them to get away with calling them a hate group.

    • Dagoril

Yeah, THAT was the only “journalistic malpractice” there.

  • Ninja0980

I see some bigots are whining about how Muslims would never be targeted this way.
A simple web search would show that in OR,NY, and IL there have been cases where Muslim cab drivers tried the same “religious freedom” bullshit the cake baker in CO and the flower vendor in WA did and lost.
This country is a theocracy and I don’t give a shit what religion you belong to.
If you can’t handle abiding by the discrimination laws in certain states, then don’t open a business that serves the public.
Serve the folks in your church, mosque whatever and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

    • Lizard

They think owning a business is a right (it’s not) so when that business is taken away, they feel like “te gubmint” took away something that was “theirs.”

      They confuse privileges with rights.

      • David Walker

Just as they confuse hate with truth. Or money with Jesus. Or anything that might bring their unerring bloviations into question.

      • I’m concerned that the result of the Oregon bigot baker case is going to be a weakening or even dismantling of public accommodations law nationwide.

  • penpal

Whatever. There is a definition behind the term and a rigorous process behind the label that involves monitoring, research, and evidence. Not surprised the anti-science folks don’t understand how it works. Small brains, you know.

It is my religious belief that any group opposing equal rights for LGBT be labeled a hate group.

Wonder if they’ll defend me now?

OT: Trump says he is sitting at his desk waiting for the republican health care bill so he can sign it into law. How stupid is he to believe he can just sign it into law before it passes the house and senate without more changes? And beside that he is not even in the US so he is lying AGAIN.

    • Dagoril

He’s sitting at the desk IN HIS MIND.

      • Beagle

        Dump has a mind?

    • RoFaWh

The orange asshole has a very tenuous grip on reality.

He hates being mocked, so let’s mock him: stupid! ignorant! ha ha ha!

  • Dagoril

The tears of an enraged ADF are so delicious. Hope they’re not fattening.

  • Tomcat

OT: the new healthcare bill allows garbage healthcare plans that don’t cover most things. Now that IS something republicans can get behind.

It’s an object lesson that might fly over His Cheetohness’ head, but hopefully Macron will explain in a PowerPoint presentation with lots of colors and graphics.

        • RJ Bone

It’ll have to be VERY VERY short on words, though.

    • Daveed_WOW

Trump is so dumb he doesn’t know when he’s being outclassed. And a little manipulated. Keep you adversaries close, said M. Macron.

    • GlennF

Ugh, they look like they were going to kiss. Disturbingly, Macron has been going out of his way to make dRumpf feel right at home.

What’s going on with Macron anyway? Why did Macron even invite dRumpf in the first place? sheeesh

      • Kruhn

It’s the 100th anniversary of our entry into World War I when another, somewhat naive, but welcome American President (you know that Progressive– and racist– Woodrow Wilson) threw in our lot with the Entente, thus saving France’s bacon. So this Bastille Day (France’s version of the Fourth of July), Macron is combining the festivities on the birth of modern France with America’s entry into World War I as an object lesson about working with Allies, and standing for the universal rights America used to stand for.

  • Buford

Pretty simple… if there are ‘victims’ of what your group does, you’re a hate group.

  • bambinoitaliano

How odd that they have no qualms of behaving like a bunch of hateful asshats in the media and in the public yet they oppose being label as one? Do these morons ever seen a mirror?

  • Natty Enquirer

You’re a bunch of lawyers; if it’s really defamation, take ABC to court. I’ll wait.

  • Silver Badger

The ADF should go to court and allow SPLC to prove that they are, indeed, a hate group.

    • Jonathan Smith

or prove that they are not……

  • MirrorMan

It’s spelled ‘Alliance Defending Freedom’, but it’s pronounced as ‘Hate Group’.

  • grada3784

Didn’t they used to brag when they were called hate groups?

    • MBear

That didn’t go the way they thought it would so they’re trying a new tactic.

  • OdieDenCO

my, my, my. someone’s panties are in a twist. Alleged does not mean you are a hate group, but your response of “violence-inciting organization” sure does.

  • Bad Tom

What seven SCOTUS wins in the past seven years were those?

ADF’s Wikipedia page lists merely ten notable cases since 1995. Of those, they won three, lost six, and settled one out of court. Only two were argued before SCOTUS.

Since ADF can edit this page, you’d think they’d want to put in all those luscious SCOTUS wins.

    You’d think.
The ADF page was last edited 13 July 2017. Not out of date.
Looking at ADF’s own SCOTUS page, they list Obergefell v. Hodges. They count their losses as wins!

    • Daveed_WOW

No surprise there. They in the business of raising money for themselves. It’s a scam. Any lie that will get them business or donations is OK with them.

      • RoFaWh

        Grifters., iow.

    • Randolph Finder

If ADF itself (or anyone from there) edited the page on Wikipedia, it would be counted as a Conflict of Interest and should be reverted. In short don’t look at Wikipedia to see what they claim, look at their own website (but stay near a toilet)

      • Bad Tom

So Wikipedia pages about a person or organization may not be edited by those people or organizations, even to correct serious errors? Only others are allowed to have any control over an encyclopedia page about you?

I would think that an encyclopedia would be devoted to facts, plain and simple.

Perhaps I should rethink my contributions to Wikipedia.

When I looked at their own website, they list Obergefell v Hodges under their SCOTUS cases. They lost that one.

        • Randolph Finder

Please read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest , that is the essay on it. And exactly. By no means should Donald Trump be editing the page about Donald Trump and the North Korean government shouldn’t be editing the page about North Korea.

It *is* very reasonable *and policy* that if Donald Trump wants a change to the article about Donald Trump, then he can edit the talk page and request an edit with what he believes should be there *with references* and have editors who have a Neutral Point of View on Trump to actually make the edits.

There are also ways for individual people to contact wikipedia to change specific information in specific situations. (New York Times says you are both December 14, 1973, and you can show them your birth certificate to show that it is actually May 5, 1988 and an override can be done)

  • bsinps

You are what you are!!! 😁😁😁

  • Nic Peterson

7 wins at SCOTUS? In the last seven years? Bullshit!

    • Bad Tom

Apparently they count cases they lost before SCOTUS as wins. Seriously.

      • Nic Peterson

Even counting their losses doesn’t get them to seven cases considered. They must be including all of those certiorari denied notifications in the win column.

        • Daveed_WOW

Maybe they sent a brief (I think anyone can) and counted that as a win. Who knows? They are full time professional degenerates. They’ll never confess to their lies.

        • Bad Tom

          Good point!

  • Alleged(ly) is the magic word for journalists. It allows them to say just about anything without it being libel. The right wing equivalent is “some people say” or phrasing a statement in the form of a question so that later they can say they were “just asking”.

In all those cases good luck claiming libel except of course to a bunch of know-nothings.

    • RoFaWh

In the universe of orange asshole-ism, it’s phrased “the best people are saying…”

  • Richard B

    What is the fuss about?
    Bigots hate being called bigots.
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is a hate group.
They are international, dangerous to our community, and the legal advocate for religious organizations that wish to use our justice system to create court ordered precedents to institutionalize discrimination against the LGBTQ community.
Let there be no misunderstanding, the ADF is the legal arm of hateful religious organizations that despise us and their ultimate goal is to make it illegal to be gay and for gay folks to have NO RIGHTS.

Here’s a good resource if you’re debating anyone on this: http://equalitymatters.org/blog/201411190001

  • kayo56

Maybe they should stop being a hate group; it’s possible that might help.
I wonder how many nuns they’ve defended? These days, nuns tend to be social activists who get grief from church hierarchy (not including the Pope) for not pushing their agenda, instead of running around righting wrongs.

Even people who are pissed off at the church in general usually respect the work nuns do. My son says every time he sees a nun, he wants to run up and give her money.

I too, am wondering about defending the Muslims who are against terrorism. Why do they have to be defended? Are they being harassed, because they’re the only non-terrorists in the neighborhood.

  • ColdCountry

Oh, Hon, the SPLC has more credibility than you could ever hope for.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Sorry ADF, I had to catch my breath from all the laughing. Seriously, you are a hate group, you espouse homophobia, you wallow in the dank waters of xenophobia and, let’s be honest, you’re no more Christian than this proud, loud, queer atheist is; so knock it off already.

  • rednekokie

Uh — ooops — ABC didn’t err, except when they said “allegedly”. They should have said “proven” — then their accusation of this gaggle of goons being a hate group would have been accurate.
