REPORT: Kushner Told Joe Scarborough To Apologize To Trump Or The Enquirer Would Expose Affair With Mika

New York Magazine reports:

According to three sources familiar with the private conversations, what happened was this: After the inauguration, Morning Joe’s coverage of Trump turned sharply negative. “This presidency is fake and failed,” Brzezinski said on March 6, for example.

Around this time, Scarborough and Brzezinski found out the Enquirer was preparing a story about their affair. While Scarborough and Brzezinski’s relationship had been gossiped about in media circles for some time, it was not yet public, and the tabloid was going to report that they had left their spouses to be together.

In mid-April, Scarborough texted with Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner about the pending Enquirer story. Kushner told Scarborough that he would need to personally apologize to Trump in exchange for getting Enquirer owner David Pecker to stop the story. (A spokesperson for Kushner declined to comment). Scarborough says he refused, and the Enquirer published the story in print on June 5, headlined “Morning Joe Sleazy Cheating Scandal!”

“Sovietnik – (“Councilor”), is the advisor and most close trusted individuals to the Pakhan, similar to the Consigliere in Italian-American Mafia crime families and Sicilian Mafia clans.”

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Blackmail to silence the media. If we had a functional Congress, this is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. I wonder if Joe [Scarborough] has proof to tie it directly to Trump, not just Kushner.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    • Mike C

It’s also a violation of Federal law. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/part-I/chapter-41

Scarborough and NBC have an obligation to release any proof they have of blackmailing by the President.

      • Nowhereman

It would be funny as hell if one of these little side story twitter spats ended up taking him down.

      • I’m not sure they can prove that the president knew that Kushner was making the call. And unless they recorded the call, it could be about anything. i think proving that might be difficult, but it is blackmail on Kushner’s part.

        • Charlie In SF

can the texts between Trump and Jared be subpoened?

    • zhera

I’m thinking this story is what caused tRump to tweetrage yesterday. Getting ahead of it, so he can claim that the story is FAKE! and that Mika And Joe are lying about Dear Leader because he ‘told it like it is’.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

But all this already happened back before the story was published. Trump / Kushner knew Joe & Mika could have gone public with the threats. In my mind, they held it in their back pocket waiting for him to do something so egregious, they couldn’t hold back any longer.

Warning: Heavy tin-foil hat territory: What if Trump let them know the horrible thing he was going to say and their retaliation was also known and planned, all as a distraction to the latest bombshell of collusion evidence. “Hey Joe, this is T, I need a favor….” After all, who’s gonna prosecute the alleged extortion? Jeff Sessions?

        • Gustav2

Joe and Mika are in collusion with Trump!

          • kaydenpat

They definitely were during the election cycle but not anymore, if all this mess can be believed.

    • sword

Remember, these are Republicans…they follow the Constitution only when it suits them.

      • Nowhereman

What they really want to do is to rewrite it. The Koch Bros. are working on it. The goal is to get enough states under right wing control and then call a constitutional convention. I can only imagine what they would come up with. I’m guessing that the first Article would be the ten commandments and a declaration that this is a christian nation and that the rest of us can just go suck it if we don’t like it.

    • kaydenpat

It appears that the communications were by email so hopefully Joe has kept them. He should release them to the public.

        • She spoke the truth about Trump and the GOP…say HEY we are not going to move forward on these things until you relent…

      • From the comments:

Ana is 100% correct, but sadly for the nation Trump will NEVER change. He’s a 71 year old man baby. He’s always been that way. He’s showed the nation and world who he was on the campaign trial. He has turned the US Presidency into a reality TV show. His tweets are designed to distract.

Trump doesn’t want to talk about his agenda or the agenda of the Republican Party which is basically one big tax cut for the rich. If the nation talks about Trump and the GOP’s policies its obvious they are doing the bidding of right wing oligarchs (aka globalists) both American and Russian.

The Koch Brothers control Trump/GOP domestic agenda and Putin controls Trump’s foreign policy. Its clear to any sane person following real news that Trump has violated the Constitution every day while in office. That’s even before we get to his involvement with the Russians.

He needs to be impeached, but won’t be because the Republican Party wants it’s libertarian dreams of destroying the US government with tax cuts and poor management to come true. Not a patriot among them. The GOP sold its soul to Ayn Rand decades ago.

    EXTORTION??

  • Cuberly

Another Steve may see his Jared in prison fran fic come to life.

    • another_steve

This story has left me somewhat farklempt. My fantasy has been that Jared was merely way out of his element and not prepared for the intricacies of being an assistant to the supposed leader of the Free World. Now I’m not so sure. He may be intrinsically rotten at the core.

I will consult with what little remains of my libido, for guidance on how to proceed.

      • Cuberly

Well, considering his daddies questionable dealings which led to him being sent to prison, and their families real estate tentacles run rampant and questionably all over the place. I have no doubt Jared was/is just as corrupt as the rest of Donnie’s mob.

        • another_steve

          Yes. And a shame, that.

Aside from his religious thing (which I don’t share), he and I share the “culturally Jewish” thing. All Jews, religious or not, share this. Even prior to the Holocaust, Jews were relatively small in number on the planet. Close-knit, for survival and cultural purposes.

Such a cute thing, Jared is.

This whole story bewilders me. When did it become scandalous for heterosexuals to have multiple marriages and secret love affairs — currently married to other people or not?

Was I asleep when they made that a major shanda (Yiddish: scandal, disgrace)?

      • Todd20036

Right? You sleep with one married “straight” husband and everyone gets into a snit.

        • Stephen Elliot Phillips

          Straight men stray?? Who knew

          • Todd20036

*shrug* Dear old dad wanted me to marry a woman, even if it meant I slept with men on the side.

I thought that was a load of warm crap, but some people were desperate to please their fathers – or to stay in their fathers’ wills.

        • another_steve

When I was young and desirable, I slept with several married, supposedly straight men. They liked me because I was fem and soft-skinned.

It’s a start. Don’t forget, your nation’s prosecutors tend to go overboard when they start charging people with things.

  • This is a bit OT — but please take a look at this 538 article about the special elections so far in 2017 at 538. I don’t know about you guys I’m am seeing the morphing of Jared Kushner into Martin Shkreli.

Glenn also reports that Sarah hasn’t gotten around to asking Donald about his position on Medicaid because of course she hasn’t.

  • ETownCanuck

This is all starting to feel like the worlds longest, worst episode of Scandal….

    • zhera

      Or Soap…

      • safari

I can’t even imagine what I’d miss if I were away from the internet for a few days.

        • Jeffg166

Well, there was that Martian invasion the other day.

        • zhera

My mother used to watch a few soaps. Every time I visited I’d catch an episode and I’d say something like “What? They’re still doing that/arguing about that?”

At least a few months apart, and I could easily follow the plot. It’s a bit like this with the Trump administration: It’s always crazy, there’s always a scandal, and no matter what happens there will be no consequences for the orange turd.

      • ETownCanuck

        Soap was more entertaining.

    • Jeffg166

With really homely people in the cast.

      • Hue-Man

really ugly white and orange people

  • Bonobo

Here we go again… the media tells the truth about Trump and he fires back with name calling and distractions from the facts. What a loser Donnie is.

So it started to show in postings from rightwing nutjobs and it is spreading in the right wing media – the argument goes that Joe knew that Trump was friends with Pecker so by contacting Kushner, he was actually asking Trump to kill the story so Trump’s explanation is true and Joe is lying. They are leaving out the fact the Kushner is also friends with Pecker and probably has some pull with him. IOW, he wanted Kushner to pull his Pecker so to speak.

    • Gustav2

That’s the spin the WH is putting out with “UNNAMED SOURCES”

The Daily Beast, citing two unnamed White House officials, reported Friday that Kushner and Scarborough spoke “many weeks ago,” in the unnamed sources’ words, about the upcoming Enquirer story.

Scarborough, the sources said, “calmly” sought Kushner’s advice. And Kushner, in turn, “recommended he speak with the President.”

The unnamed sources’ claims contradict Scarborough’s claim: that White House officials called him first, and asked that he apologize to the President in exchange for Trump requesting the story be pulled.

“This is getting blown up on Twitter and elsewhere as some kind of blackmail operation,” one of the Daily Beast’s unnamed sources said. “The truth is far more mundane. In this case, Joe was talking to Jared about his [bad] relationship with the President and a Enquirer hit piece he was uneasy about.”

      • ByronK

And the different versions will breed like Tribbles and everyone will forget about Trump’s vulgar tweet. How convenient.

  • tonyg

This “Dynasty” knock-off is getting tedious. When is the mid-season finale?

    • Jonathan Smith

      when Susan Lucci walks in

    • safari

Funny you should mention that. Donald did pitch a Dynasty-knockoff about the Barron family. Really.

    • ByronK

Do we at least get a fight in the WH fountain between Melania and Mika before the credits roll?

      • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Id like to see a guest appearance by a previous cast member, michelle obama, giving trump a hard right slug and knocking him across the rose garden.

If two consenting adults choose to separate from their spouses to further their romance that’s not an affair. It’s just a story about two people who are in love and deciding to move on. There’s nothing “sleazy” about it.

    • kaydenpat

Trump’s sex life has been so sleazy that he forgets that everyone isn’t him.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Jared Kushner has now forced me to think of hateful Joe and Morning Mika as two crazy kids in love.

  • boobert

I can just here him saying ” if you don’t apologize, I’m telling the national inquirer “, in this voice, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SsFME-MTiA

I can’t find any etymological history of “tea-bagging” pre-dating this movie.

      • Acronym Jim

I seem to recall John Waters talking about, to amuse themselves, he and his merry band of mischief makers would think up the weirdest or most perverse sexual acts and then assign names to them. Tea-bagging probably came from that.

Kushner is like that kid you knew in school who was in the gifted classes and programs but you couldn’t figure out why….

    • RidingTheLine

Until you heard the principal thank his daddy for the donation to the school.

  • RidingTheLine

As one of my very astute former students has noted, Trump goes nuclear on Twitter every time he wants to do something sneaky somewhere else. As disgusting as all of this is, it’s a smokescreen for something far worse.

    • Gustav2

It will soon be 4:00 EDT on a Friday, time to watch the news…

      • Sam_Handwich

Im sitting in a hot church waiting to play a 4 pm wedding and theres no one here but me and the photographer. Wtf

  • bambinoitaliano

Did National Enquirer published Newt having a 6 years affair with Callista? That asshole call the wife Marianne of 18 years on the phone for a divorce. Just days after she was diagnose with Multiple Sclerosis.

    • Gustav2

Silly, he’s a Republican politician, they get privacy.

  • RichRob

Sounds like blackmail to me…..off to the hoosgow!!

  • The only way rich white people suffer for the terrible things they do these days is if other rich white people decide to make them suffer. When hope that our psycho POTUS will get what’s coming to him depends on Joe Scarborough actually having the balls to do something, things are bad. Like Fifty Shades of Grey bad.

    • Talisman

      Ishtar bad? Saving Christmas bad?

  • Thorn Spike

Trump is “president” like the Enquirer is “journalism.”

    • TexasBoy

Nope, even the Enquirer gets it right on rare occasions.

  • coram nobis

Meanwhile, more reax to another Trump extortion move: CA Sec’y of State gets their demand for all voter personal data, tells them to ram it and cram it.

    http://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/California-official-bristles-at-Trump-voter-fraud-11257803.php

A startling call by a White House commission studying voter fraud in the 2016 election for the name, address, date of birth and partial Social Security number of everyone who has cast a ballot since 2006 has provoked howls of outrage from voting rights advocates across the country and outright defiance from California’s secretary of state.

…If [Secretary] Padilla refuses to follow a court order to produce the information, he could be held in contempt, which possibly could lead to a night in jail.

Given California’s anti-Trump leanings, however, “I imagine (Padilla) would live tweet every step of the way to jail and never have to send out a campaign mailer again,” …

  • Okay, so that’s blackmail and not very effective because duh yes they were having an affair and that’s hardly surprising, for the few people who even care.

  • The Milkman

It’s my understanding that both are divorced. Not sure how their relationship is particularly scandalous.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

      • e_monster

What he craves, no doubt: ever more money.

  • Mike

I wonder, when a blackmail threat is delivered by a boyish man with a pre-adolescent speaking voice, if it is pathetic and funny, or if it’s more menacing, maybe in a Billy Mumy-Twilight Zone kind of way.

  • jimbo65

Nice. We gave a blackmailer in chief as well as being a total shit scumbag.

  • TimCA

First step in establishing an authoritarian state, silence by any means necessary the opposition media. Threats of violence, or in this case blackmail, are all fair game until the despot gains enough power legislatively and judicially to do it under law.

  • lymis

On Morning Joe this morning, Mika explained that they took it further, and that the Enquirer was making harassing phone calls to her daughters giving them “details” claiming to be from their father (Mika’s ex), and that they said that the harassment would end with Scarborough’s apology.

    Scarborough says he has documentation.

  • Henry Auvil

Little Lord Fauntleroy is every bit the scumbag he was born and bred to be. Marrying into the Trump family just sealed the deal.

  • fuzzybits

This skeevy little asshole just looks like he would sell anyone’s secrets for a price.

  • goofy_joe

They are all subhuman garbage. They see themselves as above the law and above everyone else in this country. WE the people only exist to make them more money. It’s sickening, and this little prick needs to be put in jail.
