Trump Family Wedding Planner Formally Appointed To Role Overseeing Multi-Billion Dollar Housing Agency

The New York Daily News reports:

A Trump family wedding planner was officially appointed Monday to her new job overseeing federal housing in New York. Lynne Patton, the regional administrator for Housing and Urban Development, has zero experience in housing. She is responsible for distributing billions of taxpayer dollars to public housing in New York and New Jersey.

“I have no doubt that Ms. Patton’s unique ability to engage and foster viable relationships across bipartisan silos will serve both New York and New Jersey well,” Secretary Ben Carson said in a statement. Carson, a neurosurgeon who sought the Republican nomination for president last year, also had no government experience before President Trump nominated him to run HUD.

Patton claims to have a law degree from Quinnipiac University, but the school says she only attended for two semesters and did not graduate. Patton is now responsible for HUD Region 2, the nation’s largest public housing agency.

    Goodbye, country.

  • Tawreos

Gotta love the fiscally responsible choice to fill an important position.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

Finally, we can have some centerpieces in our public housing that coordinate with the bunting. Our long national nightmare is over.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Is this year the end of tenement teal? Our long national nightmare is over!

      • Butch

OK, so OT humor: several years ago I got stuck helping to decorate for my nephew’s wedding, and his bride told me to hang the tulle over the door. I heard it as “tool” and had no idea what she was talking about – thought maybe she wanted the place decorated with power saws and screwdrivers, but I’m sure the blank look on my face said everything.

      • Acronym Jim

Please don’t tell me Jackie O inadvertently started that fad when she tried to economize while helping out family members.

The fact that the administration can’t be objective about something as simple as this spells doom for our country.

  • Tawreos

Does he think that HUD is the only place for the African Americans that he has been to stomach… I mean lure into hiring?

  • leo77

So getting along with both the bride and groom’s families is an “unique ability to engage and foster viable relationships across bipartisan silos”?

    • The_Wretched

Trump is fair in one narrow way, he’ll take big money bribes from Dems too.

  • Thorn Spike

“She is responsible for distributing billions of taxpayer dollars to the Trump Crime Family in New York and New Jersey.”

    FIFY

    • The_Wretched

Right, trump wants to be sure the dollars only go to his friends. This appointment is setting up corruption infrastructure. It seems rather obvious. I hope the media and investigators follow up.

  • safari

The proud tradition of appointing the unqualified to bring it all crashing down continues.

  • “We need to run the government like a business!”

Someone running a business would not put a totally unqualified person into an executive role. Unless it was someone like Trump running that company, which explains why almost every business he ever got involved with went bankrupt.

Lastly, this is just a slap in the face to the Governors of state of New York (Cuomo whom Trump dislikes for not supporting the travel ban) and New Jersey (Christie whom Trump despises) as well as the mayor(DeBlasio whom Trump does not like because of fighting to pay to keep his family safe) of New York City…hmmm…can you say petty little man his name is Trump

    • KQCA

TrueWords (appropriately titled), your comment MUST be turned into a new social media meme.

    • Hank

Gee…. I wonder what DeBlasio and Cuomo can do to Drumpf Tower and to Jared’s 666 building!!! It will NOT be pretty if they do!!!

    • lattebud

Her job is to spend other people’s money to make her overlords happy. For those that thought HUD was a mess, just wait until they audit this upcoming fiasco.

A sudden, fleeting moment of clarity.

    • Halou

I bet the Fat Controller is now feeling really happy about being passed over for a government position.

  • Professor Barnhardt

Remember, family members make the best auditors.

  • Ernest Endevor

I wonder if NY’s governor or AG can do anything to stop this.

    • The_Wretched

Start investigating. I don’t think he has any power to preempt or block appointment.

  • The_Wretched

So more corrupt patronage / staffing with loyalists. Move along, normal democracy in progress.

    • thatotherjean

Let us always remember: THIS IS NOT NORMAL! Government didn’t work this way before January 20, 2017.

  • netxtown

Assuming she did not ask for the position – I smell a trump setup. I don’t want to doubt her abilities – but at first review, she’s in over her head. And it plays perfectly to his base that ‘blacks are getting promotions cuz they’re black’.

I’ll hope the best for her – but it sure looks like the cards are being intentionally stacked against her.

  • Silver Badger

Is she being kept busy until a Supreme Court position becomes available?

    • Chris Baker

Just as appalling as that Trump/Carson would appoint a wedding planner to this position is that she would accept it. Talk about an ego.

      • ChrisMorley

The pay packet for the executive managing the large federal housing budget for NY and NJ would have made it an almost irrestible job offer for most people with no discernable qualifications.

  • Halou

Trump is packing HUD with African Americans because of course they know better than anyone what it is like to live in substandard housing?

Wasn’t it last week when Trump defended his appointment of Goldman Sachs executives to political office despite promising not to? Saying that he only wants rich people in positions of power because he doesn’t trust poor people to not steal things.

    Bigoted in every possible way.

    • Jon Doh

“Trump is packing HUD with African Americans because of course they know better than anyone what it is like to live in substandard housing?”

They could have just filled the position with most any of Jared Kushner’s tenants.

  • it’s a shame she’s a Fabulist. for a minute there i was ready to say maybe she’s worth giving a chance. believe it when i say the possible rethugs who know law and housing policy protocol are guaranteed to do more damage. if she’s just inept and bumbling that’s probably the best we couldn’ve hoped for.

the wedding planners i’ve worked with have been really great people, really competent. i like the idea of regular people occasionally stepping in and shaking things up in govt, as i think part of the problem of where we are now is in large part to career grifters masquerading as policy experts. but it’s a big red flag that she lied about her education, and is willing to work for the Traitor, esp as a black woman. two strikes against her character mean i’ll reserve my wait and see for someone more worthy of it.

  • IAMBOWLINGGREEN

She lied about having a degree, just like Melania.

      Michelle, to rhyme with Melania.

Neoptism. We promote family values here, almost as often as we promote family members.

O/T, just ran across this and quite disturbed: “In violation of a longstanding legal mandate, scores of federal law enforcement agencies are failing to submit statistics to the FBI’s national hate crimes database, ProPublica has learned.

The lack of participation by federal law enforcement represents a significant and largely unknown flaw in the database, which is supposed to be the nation’s most comprehensive source of information on hate crimes. The database is maintained by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division, which uses it to tabulate the number of alleged hate crimes occurring around the nation each year.

The FBI has identified at least 120 federal agencies that aren’t uploading information to the database, according to Amy Blasher, a unit chief at the CJIS division, an arm of the bureau that is overseeing the modernization of its information systems….”

    http://www.salon.com/2017/06/26/more-than-100-federal-agencies-fail-to-report-hate-crimes-to-the-fbis-national-database_partner/

    • That_Looks_Delicious

That doesn’t make sense the way it’s written. The only federal law enforcement agency would be the FBI, Are there any others? They must be referring to state or local agencies.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

I only excerpted the article. If you click the link, there’s much more. Another excerpt:

The federal government operates a vast array of law enforcement agencies — ranging from Customs and Border Protection to the Drug Enforcement Administration to the Amtrak Police — employing more than 120,000 law enforcement officers with arrest powers. The FBI would not say which agencies have declined to participate in the program, but the bureau’s annual tally of hate crimes statistics does not include any offenses handled by federal law enforcement. Indeed, the problem is so widespread that the FBI itself isn’t submitting the hate crimes it investigates to its own database.

        • That_Looks_Delicious

The more you know. I had no idea.

  • TJay229

White people overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump. White Men & White Women are to blame for this fiasco we must suffer through.

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Can you imagine what the rightwing noise machine would have done if Obama had appointed somebody who flat out lied about having a degree?

      • TJay229

Hmm… Anything like his Birth Certificate issue?

        • That_Looks_Delicious

To be fair to Trump, he is following in a grand Republican tradition here. Bush was the one who put a guy who breeds racehorses in charge of FEMA (we all saw how well that worked out) and tried to put the lady that ran a state lottery on SCOTUS.

  • Acronym Jim

“Sir, we still need an administrator for the HUD region covering New York and New Jersey.”

“I already gave that job to Ben.”

“Ben is head of the entire department. This is a regional post, although a very large one. Ben would be this administrator’s boss.”

    “What’s Omarosa doing?”

“I’m not sure, exactly, but you’ve already given her a different position in your administration.”

“Well, Jared is out of the question for an obvious reason.”

“Yes, Jared does already have a lot on his plate.”

    “That’s not the reason.”

    “[…]”

“Do I know any other black people?”

“Well, there’s Eric’s old wedding planner, but I don’t think she has any experience in this fiel…”

    “Great! Perfect! Hire her.”

    • Nick in Pasadena

I won’t place any bets on how close this came to the actual conversation.

Terrible people put in government positions who will ruin the lives of those they’re supposed to serve is not a bug in the Trump Administration.

    It’s by design.

Best case, she is inefficient and people suffer from her stupidity and managing.

Worst case, she gives government funds to herself and cronies.

I appraise residential real estate. It’s been slow, really slow, for three-four months. Today I mentioned to some staff in my company’s office that I thought the reason why the usual number of HUD and FNMA foreclosures were not coming in was due to disorder and chaos in the agencies. Last year I was typically assigned two or three every month. I believe I am correct. I think they just can’t get the product out the door. The government simply is not working properly. Add to that new regulations at FNMA which allow most homeowners who want to refinance to proceed without an appraisal, and my income has taken a bigly hit since January. When unqualified people are put in charge of important government agencies, the effects are far reaching. We now have government by least qualified. For those of you watching, the banks, government and builders are planning the next big real estate bubble. Fortify your position. It’s coming.

  • Clive Johnson

Ken Ham is available as national science advisor. Let’s set a goal for ourselves, Republicans. Let’s see how dumb you can make this country.
