HUMILIATION II: Anti-Marriage Hate March Draws 47

After more than six months of near daily money begs and incessant cries of impending victory due to the election of Donald Trump, NOM’s fifth annual anti-LGBT marriage march in Washington DC today drew a hilarious 47 attendees (“including babies”) according to a count done by one of our friends on Twitter.

That NOM leader Brian Brown held the event in the first place after last year’s event drew a humiliating attendance of fewer than 200 only confirms our belief that the march is nothing but fundraising scam. As the Ochre-In-Chief would say, SAD!

As you can see below, aside from a wandering tourist family or two, the only other attendees appear to be members of the Red-Caped Catholic Loons.

isn’t that the definition of insanity “doing the same precise thing over and over again expecting different results

No, that is right wing mantra.

The moment, after years of spreading hate and bigotry, Brian Brown looks out at 47 people, and thinks ‘damn, I’m going to have find a real job’ :

Maggie was wise enough to see that NOM was a dying operation, but not Brian.

      • Rob Jensen

Orson Scott Card was also smart enough to ditch. He ditched after Prop 8 was tossed.

        • LovesIrony

grinning wide when they were passing bigoted amendments left and right, then asked for kindness when his movie was boycotted into a bomb.

        • jayjonson

I think he dictched after his wretched movie was boycotted.

        • David L. Caster

Those that visibility and unwisely held forth with their ill considered and irrationally based arguments against marriage equality got what they deserved. Card was one of those. He will never be bankable in Hollywood again. Good. Let that be a lesson to bigots everywhere and in every field of human endeavor.

Card, though entitled to his opinion, paid the price for voicing it loudly, just as did Dan Cathy, Chick-Fil-A* President, and Guido Barilla, chairman of Barilla Group. They all should have known better and had to learn the hard way. Businesses and individuals that fought against or supported those that fought against marriage equality felt the negative consequencesβ€”as they should.

(As I rewatched the Storm video Joe posted): She could have started by not declaring gay marriage a damaging storm.

        • Todd20036

She could have realized that feeling butt-hurt about gay marriage is not being discriminated against.

She could have admitted that churches still can discriminate.

She could have admitted that gays getting married do not affect anyone else’s marriage.

Hell, she could have put down that pound cake for once.

In other words, there was plenty she could have done, but there wasn’t much she was capable of.

        • barrixines

She never figured out how to say no to a Ding Dong either.

          • Regan DuCasse

Oh now…fat shaming the woman isn’t the way, my friends.
Shaming her on her hypocrisy, and how she tacitly approved of NOM’s libel and slander of the LGBT community and their intent and purpose…and oh yes….how she put her bare feet up on the gallery rail during a Prop. 8 CA court hearing…
THAT showed her to be a classless tub of guts.
Lots for her to be ashamed of, so pointing out how fat she is, isn’t necessary.

          • barrixines

No she didn’t only do that – she stuffed her face with Cheetos deliberately drawing attention to herself. She used her gluttony in protest. It’s fascinating how many overweight Christians are quick to point the finger at LGBT people – Maggie and Brian here for example – when there are far more admonitions in the Bible about putting down that pie than there are about putting down that dick. I appreciate you’re coming from a good place but I am afraid I’m a lost cause as far as that pig and the damage she did to our people’s lives.

          • orion dumptee

well, she is good for business, during the prop 8 CA hearings, she consumed an ENTIRE days output of the Hostess Bakery Corp (Hoboken,NJ)…ring dings, devil dogs, fruit pies, yodels, drakes cakes etc….

          • Calling her a tub? Isn’t that fat-shaming?

          • Regan DuCasse

No, I’d referred to her guts, not her size. See the difference?
I can’t stand her. She has done a lot of damage to our family’s lives.
Our LGBT family comes in all sizes too.
And it wasn’t her size that did it, but her nasty anti gay rhetoric and interference.
Sorry you misunderstood what I meant.

          • Todd20036

            No concern-troll. It’s hypocrisy shaming.

Miss Fatty Fatts attacks gays with her precious bible because there is 1 mention of gays being “bad”.

Lots of messages against gluttony though, don’t you think?

          • Bashing us with her Bible? I don’t recall her (or her former boss Brown, also a convert to Roman Catholicism) ever actually quoting from the Bible in their writings.

Rather they bash us with the Roman Catechism — with its heavy emphasis on the importance of self-discipline and penitential self-denial — overlaid in Mrs Srivastav’s case with her own neurotic views on marriage which appear to owe more to “romance” novels a la Mills & Boon than to either the Bible or the Catechism.

One might understand that her (self-reported) unhappy childhood, the refusal of her first baby-daddy to marry her, and then the failure of her marriage when she did manage to snare herself a husband, have led her to find solace in comfort food. It’s about all she has left; but her simmering anger effectively voids any claim to sympathy.

But we are on the same page here. One cannot credibly demand that gay people that live lives of self-denying celibacy when one’s own adiposity bears witness to one’s own refusal to practise self-denial in the matter of excessive eating and drinking.

          • northern_neighbour

Absolutely! I totally concur with what you have just articulated so nicely.

          • northern_neighbour

Yes she should be ashamed, and BiGLY so !!

But that is the least of what she NEEDS to answer to for, to her “imaginary maker”. who she is determined to kunt-front someday or at least the worms, or the cinders.

I don’t think any of us have to be polite towards her as though she were some kind of exalted lady who just doesn’t happen to see the awful truth of her lack of Christian behaviour.

She thinks her externalized & tweeted out internal (?infernal) MONOLOGUES are some kind of philosophical dialogue. HA!

What they ARE in fact are unbridled HUBRIS. And yes, gluttony, Maggie, IS one of the 7 deadly sins. Just reminding ya, FYI.

But driving adolescents to despair and to suicide is a far larger SIN that you need to answer for.

          • Yes. How quickly we forget! It wasn’t all that long ago that this woman, this self-proclaimed (and government-subsidised) “marriage expert”, was a leading player in the Proposition 8 fiasco, yet now even people who should know better are demanding we must be nice to her!

To add to your list of indictments, she’s a coward. She could have come forward and put her case before the Court in the Prop8 trial, but she refused to do so. As David Boies put it so neatly at the time, the witness box is a lonely place to be.

          • orion dumptee

The problem is that every word out of your mouth is a vicious lie. Fix that and there might be a chance of reasonable discussion.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Can you give me some proof of that?

          • Boreal

I think he means Maggie’s mouth.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

I still want proof from the two;; before I ban him. It might actually give me a chuckle.

          • Bluto

Dave is a good guy. Surely he meant mags.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Ok, that’s good to know. It didn’t sound like it to me.

          • DaveMiller135

You know those signs on park rides, “You must be this tall to ride this ride.”? My comments should come with an equivalent warning.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Dave, please forgive me if I misinterpreted. It is never my intention to hurt allies or those within the LGBT community who are interested in helping. I hate those signs as I’m short and don’t always meet the height requirements. My hand is extended to you in friendship. I hope you’ll take it despite my obvious stupidity.

        • Reality.Bites

That’s because you and your cause were manifestly indecent

      • vorpal 😼

Maggie was also smart enough to be very prudent and toe the line that NOM was about marriage, and had no direct and explicit anti-LGBT sentiments: thus, NOM could not be labeled a hate group by the SPLC.

She left that sinking ship, and Brian turned it into a seething hate group.

        • northern_neighbour

Yeah Maggie was a savvy & opportunistic ‘hate-kkkunt-apparatchik’… one who cravenly feathered her own nest lucratively with the tears of others, those whose love and sexuality she scorned and with her own bat-shit nonsensical self-delusions of ‘civility’ and ‘dialogue’.

After all, boys and girls, she never used swear words in public. Oooooohhhh. … what a role model CHRISTER saint!

She has, on her puffy hands, the BLOOD of fledgling gaylings who ended their lives and always will have that blood on her hands, which she collectively shares with many others of course, but nonetheless — she is an accessory to many unnecessary and very sad deaths.

Just another very FAT, narcissistic, unctuous evil BITCH. I’m sorry Maggie, but that is the unvarnished truth.

You are largely Unloved in this life and serves you right, Karma! … Karma will come back and bite you even harder.

People like her only know how to double down, but to make an honest livelihood or about human decency they know nothing.

        • Ernest Endevor

She does have a gay son, after all.

          • vorpal 😼

            Really sad, isn’t it?

          • Ernest Endevor

Imagine what it’s like for him. Not every man trying to write for the musical theatre is gay but I’ve seen him in action. Imagine what his colleagues think. Fortunately, Maggie isn’t quoted so much these days but even so.

          • Reality.Bites

There are some parents who you can’t remain silent about and be part of decent society. Socarides’s gay son did the right thing.

Maggie’s son can go fuck himself

          • Strepsi

Scalia has one too. It’s almost as if they chaneled their own disappointment and loathing into demonizing ALL gay people, isn’t it?

          • Ninja0980

They take their anger out on others who are brave enough to be themselves and have loving parents.

          • lymis

Given how many kids Brian has, chances are that he has a gay kid, too.

          • Ernest Endevor

I just hope that when he, she, or they are ready, they’ll know that there’s a world waiting for them. And plenty of people to help.

    • vorpal 😼

Because after years of nationwide marriage equality, incest marriage didn’t kick in, you still cannot marry your typewriter, and God didn’t smite us all.

In other words, all the RWNJ rhetoric turned out to be as worthless as our side said it was.

  • Like I said in the earlier thread:

The vast majority of straights who’d just been ‘nervous’ about same-sex marriage equality are learning that in the years since then, it’s not been a big deal and affects them personally not at all. Except where they have gay or lesbian family members or friends who’ve been able to get married.

    • olandp

“Except where they have gay or lesbian family members or friends who’ve been able to get married.”

That would be a tragedy, then they have to buy wedding gifts, and you know how hard it is to please the gays with brick-a-brack!

Obvious fundraising scam. The Marriage March website was bare-bones and didn’t even have a list of speakers! I’m as happy as anyone that the march was a giant bowl of #Failsauce but I honestly don’t think NOM has put any effort into planning/promoting their marches since at least 2015.

Totally about stuffing cash in his pockets.

    • David Raymore

All these haters have too much time on their on hands. Look at the One Million Moms complaining about TV shows and commercials. I agree with you that they are pathetic, and they cannot enjoy life with all that constant vitriol and angst.

      • Stogiebear

We were promised slaves from among their numbers!!! I note that my gutters have yet to be cleaned and that I had to go out and buy a new gasoline edged a few weeks ago to pacify the neighborhood association. Harumph!

      • Oh, Parker

They see the nation becoming more diverse and their own numbers dwindling, and they’re desperate to try to stay relevant. They act as though if someone else gets equal rights it means something is being taken away from them. And of course it is. Their privilege.

  • Dramphooey

It’s hard to believe that that battle is over considering how the opposing Justices whined so much at the decision but when I look at that I know it’s over.

    • margaretpoa

I think most of the people who opposed marriage equality are now working on preventing transwomen from using public restrooms.

      • Boreal

When they lose that battle, they’ll need a new enemy. Unhappy people always need someone else to hate.

      • zhera

Well, there’s Texas. They do everything they can to make like for LGBTQ difficult.

It’s almost as if their hate was more about Obama than about same-sex marriage. Without him to bash, they’re just not that interested.

  • John Ruff

Oh wow! That made my day! Where are all the bussed-in Latinos from NYC for past hate marches? I suppose someone finally told them in Spanish that the march was meant to harm actual families.

    • Bj Lincoln

You make a great point. I have been there when most of the people in their march didn’t have a clue why they were there. I saw more than a few realize what was going on and put their signs down. I felt for the kids they brought. They looked scared and very curious when they saw all us happy colorful people with rainbows and signs that called for love and marriage against their drab hateful group calling for the same thing.

      • John Ruff

It was very sad to see them at the march. They all looked a bit scared. I was saddened because I wanted to meet them and chat. It’s nice to talk with visitors.

  • The Sentinel

I love the unnecessary barricades. But make no mistake, the non-attendance at this freak show has no bearing on the very real damage Brian and his ilk are doing globally. Stay strong and vigilant!

  • Benny S.

I wonder if Brown took up an additional money beg from the crowd just so he could afford lunch.

Brian Brown: Due to a shortage of funds, we had to make the red and blue banners from surplus Russian flags leftover from another failed protest. The good news is we were also able to sell the unused white panels from the Russian flags to a friendly Alt-Right group for a few hundred dollars. Not sure what they plan to do with all those white sheets, but a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks!

His flock of ex-wives alone rivals this morning’s protest crowd size. Throw in all of Donald’s concubines, playmates and Russian hotel performers and he’ll likely outboink King Solomon in the record books.

As he acknowledged, this pantheon of promiscuity https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6a7eead3a6073bf58f47716e9a2239dcd3e032b4fcb5ab43727bcdc7110b5526.jpg of Biblical proportions was Donald’s “personal Viet Nam.” Why, he’s fortunate to have survived it all without contracting syphilitic dementia or some mentally debilitating condition.

        • Reality.Bites

I hope not. I want him aware of everything that happens to him

        • FancyThat

The narcissistic personality and dissociative identity disorders are practically a given, but there are certainly several other meshing neuroses and isms thrown in the mix. Alzheimer’s will probably surface soon as well. It’s not a pretty picture. Ivanka’s standing in for him 95% of the time anyway, so little will change, even if a diagnosis is confirmed. Donald still tweets so he can feel like he’s actually contributing to the process as well. They have to let him do SOMETHING.

          • TampaDink

I think that I recall reading that Alzheimer’s can only be diagnosed during autopsy.

  • John Ruff

This is a DRAMATICALLY transformed march. I live in DC and I usually attend these marches as a counter protester. The marches they held just three to five years earlier were BIG. They were so ineffective in marketing this march, I didn’t even know it was happening this year. I have some hope for the future.

Though we have still have some clean up litigation to do in a few of the bigoted stubborn southern states in regards to marriage rights, the equal marriage battle is done.
Brian Brown squarely lost his battle when Obergefell v. Hodges established the right for all loving couples to marry regardless of their gender. Though the world did not fall apart as forecasted, Brian Brown has been pitifully lashing out, in denial, and it is time for him to move on and find a real job.

  • marshlc

This is exactly what happened here in Alberta, where opposition to marriage was quite stiff, before it became law. After a year or so of people seeing that someone they don’t even know being able to get married made zero difference to their lives, they lost interest.

The major difference between what happened in Canada and what is happening in the States is that, for the most part, actual politicians who wanted to get elected clued in very quickly that their constituents didn’t care and could no longer be riled up about the issue, and so dropped it. You seem to have a larger percentage of raving loony politicians.

Though, these days, we’re doing our best to catch up with you, sadly.

    • Stev84

NOM co-founders Maggie Gallagher and Robert George never stopped trying to write their own religious superstitions into the civil laws governing everybody else.

They deserve no forgiveness at all.

They continues to be is tireless campaigners for anti-LGBT candidates, laws, and judges, and are still trying to get the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn marriage equality nationwide.

They are greedily drooling over the numerous federal judges which Trump gets to nominate, especially the extremists dictated to Trump by the Heritage Foundation so as to stack the U.S. Supreme Court against equality for the next half-century.

NOM claims — falsely — that it costs $100,000 for 47 people to walk just 4 blocks — that’s $2,128 per person!

    NOM lies.

These 47 can walk 4 blocks for free.

What does cost $100,000 is Brian S. Brown walking off with most of NOM’s donations, fund-raising commissions, and food budget.

  • Larry Sternbane

I was there, counter protesting with my fiancΓ©. I can verify that 47 is a solid number. But if you take away Brian, his wife, and his nine (9!) kids, you are left with 36. Then please also subtract the four (4) people who remained behind after the march commenced, as they clearly were employees of the sound / staging company and not really “attending” the event. Seems Brian Brown could only attract 32 non-relatives to his event. Sad!

No, Trump would see a fundraising scam like that and be envious. Nice haul on line. And you only have to rent two port-a-potties: One, for you attendees; one, for your speech.
