Trump Pays Tribute To Pulse Massacre Victims

This afternoon on the one year anniversary of the Pulse massacre, Trump issued the above tweet memorializing the victims. One year ago today, however, after first tweeting that he was “praying” for the victims, Trump was full of self-praise an hour later, tweeting, “Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don’t want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!”

TIME Magazine wrote on this day in 2016:

Like much of what Trump does, it inspired a wave of responses. It angered Republicans and Democrats as well as some celebrities who criticized with a familiar line: that Trump is self-centered even in moments of tragedy β€” the shooting killed at least 50 people and is the deadliest mass shooting in American history. The motives of suspected shooter Omar Mateen were not immediately clear.

  • 5moreminutes*imtired

You mean “Trump” tweeted that, right?

    • JCF

I just hope the underpaid staffling who had to come up w/ that (maybe at Reince’s direction?) is also busy leaking the SHIT out of the WH!

  • dcurlee

I am betting the first tweet was not from him because he didn’t make it about him. The second one yes that’s him

The one lone comment on the Advocate’s reporting of Hillary’s statement is one of our regular Bernie-fans. Funny. I can’t find Bernie remarking on the anniversary at all and he’s actually in office. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9f66ed5b6a37c4be6888d3fa83816b52da17b5c2c0bf1cc41348b3ac0819087f.png

yeah yeah, stopped clock and all that… did you ask Mike and Jeff and Betsy to sign it too?

  • Blake Jordan

    Who wrote that tweet?

  • MrRobotoLA

He seems to have forgotten they were LGBTQ or supporters.

    • David Walker

      He’s good at that.

  • Joe

Judging by the ani-LGBT leaders he regularly meets with, it seems he forgot about the Pulse
Murder victims a long time ago.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Hey asshole, one tweet during the month when you ‘forgot’ to acknowledge Pride, but managed to give a speech among people who want us executed?

And do tell how making sure the severely mentally ill can buy guns will prevent the next massacre?

My fondest wish is before you die you somehow get hit by the self awareness fairy and realize that you are an international embarrassment and what the world thinks of you is 100% opposite of your delusional perception of self.

  • Beagle

Except when it actually happened, you made it all about yourself. Too little, too late.

  • Blake Jordan

So instead of acknowledging Pride Month, he gives a speech at the anti-LGBTQ+ circle jerk, declaring his support for their mission…

But this makes everything okay with him and the LGBTQ+ community?
Even though he does not mention why the victims at Pulse were slaughtered*…

Ps. Who wants to bet the log cabin rethuglicans, et. al. are going to ejaculate all over this, and declare it proof that Donnie “loves us”…

*Home grown, conservative American hatred of LGBTQ+s!!!

    • David Walker

Care to guess if the Log Closet Cases wrote it for him?

      • bambinoitaliano

Care to guess the LCR did not even acknowledge the event?

        • David Walker

Excellent possibility, now that you mention it.

  • MikeBx2

He long ago forgot the victims until this morning when he was reminded.

  • Kruhn

I’m guessing Ivanka took over Daddy’s Twitter machine in a desperate damage control effort. Thanks for the effort, but no cigar.

  • Blake Jordan

I am 99% certain that someone else tweeted this…

Probably the person who aknowledged the Oregon hate crime with the POTUS account, which almost no one believed came from Donnie…

  • Daveed_WOW

No acknowledgement of the LGBT victims.

  • Ranger One

How about this: “I didn’t write that tweet, it was a staffer. I couldn’t give a shit about the issue.”

  • David Walker

    God, I loathe 45.

    • Todd20036

You think 45 is bad, wait until you reach 50.

      • David Walker

Honey, you have no idea. And 70 ain’t no picnic neither. Curiously, though, when I’m feeling pretty good, being 70 doesn’t compute. I can’t possibly be 70 because I’m still in my mid-40s. Until I have to do something physical. At that point it shifts more to “what do you mean I’m only 70?”

  • All caps is and will remain shouting. Even when solemnity is called for, Donald and his minions can’t refrain from yelling.

  • vorpal 😼

Only Trump would pat himself on the back for pretending to give a damn that a disadvantaged minority group experienced a massive and horrifying spree killing.

If it’s not about him or he can’t make it about him, it may as well not exist.

  • JT

Drumpf ‘s dementia is such that he probably thinks this is the made up Bowling Green thingy.

  • LovesIrony

    Yeah? Name one victim.

    • nocadrummer

      He’d probably say, “Tony Orlando.”

      • JCF

        I’m groaning…cuz it’s true…

  • David Walker

I think it’s safe to say 45 didn’t write this. It almost sounds like he means it. We all know better than that. 45’s attempts at sincerity apply only when he’s lying about himself.

  • Blake Mason

I just read appeals court just upheld the judges decision against the travel ban.

  • The_Wretched

Donny, did you ask anyone at the Faith and Freedom Coalition to tone down their anti-LGBTQ rhetoric or ask them to remember the Pulse victims?

    • MoonlightUnkindledOne

Someone probably had to remind him of Pulse and what happened, and why he should act like he cares, yet still make the shittiest attempt (for lack of better word) possible.

  • bambinoitaliano

The shit gibbons send his thoughts and prayers. I’ll wait for the day to send the same to his family.

  • vorpal 😼

Wow. Reading the Twitter comments in response to Trump’s tweets was painful.
About 50% of them were just Hillary-bashing.

Even when Trump supporters “win”, they still can’t stop whining and snivelling and talking about Hillary.

    • Boreal

It distracts them from their tiny, tiny dicks.

      • glass

        Sweetie… you left out 3 more tiny’s.

      • oregonduckbrad

Seriously–I’m legit thinking this is the root cause. Pun intended…

      • You imply they actually have them…?

    • MBear

      Knee jerk programming.
      Theyre not really sentient

      • vorpal 😼

        Agreed.

I could probably write a computer script in an afternoon that would generate comments impossible to differentiate from a typical Trump voter.

Actually, I might need a second afternoon to make sure that the grammar and spellings are horribly mangled.

        • That_Looks_Delicious

Given what we’ve learned about Putin’s antics in the months since the election, it would not be surprising at all that those comments are actually computer-generated.

    • bambinoitaliano

They have no compassion in their hateful hearts. Just like their leader regardless of how tragic an event is unless it happens to their own family which they demand the rest of the world condolences.

      • vorpal 😼

Exactly this. You see it in everything they do.

A perfect example is health care: if it doesn’t affect them directly and immediately, why should they care? The welfare of their fellow humans means nothing to them unless they can use it as a way to attack liberals or make themselves feel self-righteous.

        • prixator

          And/or make money.

          • vorpal 😼

Which most of them seem to really suck at.

Trickle-down economics: the insane idea that worshipping and privileging the rich will somehow rub off.

          • Todd20036

It’s how Trump made a lot of money at his “university”.

          • vorpal 😼

It’s also why these idiotic things like Prosperity Churches exist where you have psychopathic ministers getting elderly people who can’t even afford their prescription medications scamming them into pledging a substantial portion of their tiny pensions.

You need to “sow the seeds”* of prosperity if you want to be prosperous yourself.

(* “Sow the seeds” = be a gullible idiot.)

          • prixator

Well, they all seem to be living very comfortably without doing much of anything.

          • vorpal 😼

I get some small means of pleasure out of realizing that to do something so disgustingly cruel to your fellow humans and live with yourself, you have to be emotionally limited / psychopathic, and thus – by definition – you are missing out on key and valuable parts of the human experience.

        • Todd20036

Actually, they’re so stupid they don’t see it as possibly affecting themselves.
If ACA goes away, and you lose your job, tough shit if you have a pre-existing condition.
          Like diabetes, or addiction.

          • vorpal 😼

On one hand, they don’t have diabetes or addiction that is actively a detriment or going untreated now.

On the other hand, there are happy liberals.

            Easy decision in their minds.

          • Todd20036

Yup. Some of them are ok with suffering if us “libtards” suffer worse.
Though many times, we suffer less because we know how to mitigate poor events.
            We don’t pray

          • vorpal 😼

This is definitely one of the major differences between the far-right Christian mindset and the left.

We on the left do things: we analyze, we plan, and we act. We know that we need to take actions to get results.

The far right just doesn’t want to think: they want to defer their problems to someone else and have faith that everything will work out so they don’t have to worry or challenge themselves. It’s why we hear that America will be great again if we just return to our (supposed) Christian roots. (God will wave his magic want of blessings?)

It’s also why Trump experienced the success he did: Hillary actually had realistic, well thought out plans that she laid out in detail to improve the country, and was not afraid to acknowledge problems that needed to be addressed, even if they were uncomfortable truths.

Trump just told people that everything would be great. He had the greatest people working on it. Bigly great. America would be great again because he was super smart. He seldom presented any kind of actual sensible PLAN, and just told people what the end result would be so they could divest themselves of having to think and could just feel taken care of.

This is why we need to start teaching critical thinking much, much earlier and with far greater emphasis than we currently do.

          • nocadrummer

Considering God’s lousy aim at destroying places (by terrible storms & weather) because of “the gays” in places that we don’t generally go, I’d think that God’s aim at tossing blessings might be as inaccurate. America becomes a theocracy, some other country gets the wealth & power.

          • vorpal 😼

I love it when the US or some other country says that NOW that marriage equality is law there, god will finally strike down his wrath.

I guess this god doesn’t really give a damn about Canada, the Netherlands, Brazil, etc. etc. etc.

          • JCF

Ahem—some of us libtards do both: “…courage to change the things I can.”

          • FAEN

As the GOP says-if you don’t want to be sick don’t be sick. Problem solved.

    • That_Looks_Delicious

They’re in a panic, because deep down they *know* things are looking bad or Cheetolini, and Hillary-bashing is their default obsessive-compulsive behavior when they have anxiety.

    • The_Wretched

They need to move-on. Derangement syndromes are a thing.

    • JWC

because thet did not do it fairly Even tho its hard to imagine and they wouldn’t recognize it but it could be an atom of humanity deep deep down

    • Ninja0980

They think one Islamic terrorist is going to make us rally around someone who is catering to Christian bigots who want to turn back the clock on all the rights we’ve gained.

      • vorpal 😼

        Exactly.

I refuse to live in fear and sacrifice our hard-won rights and progress because there are a few psychos who want us dead.

What happened at Pulse is horrifying beyond comprehension, but the likelihood that I’ll get killed by a random coconut falling on my head (approx 150 / year) is higher than the probability that I’ll get gunned down in a nightclub, and I try my best to not respond with knee-jerk reactions and instead temper my reactions with logic.

Indeed, I’m guessing that if we backtracked on our rights out of fear of anti-LGBT Islamic terrorism, Christians would latch onto that to inflict more harm and terror on us and future generations of LGBT youth.

        • Ninja0980

They would roll back our rights, using the we aren’t murdering you line as a shield for why it’s okay.

          • vorpal 😼

Absolutely, and it would become socially acceptable again to openly and viciously ridicule gay people.

The damage that this causes to vulnerable LGBT youth in particular is tremendous.

Furthermore, the people who make the argument that they’re better than the “muzzies” or whatever nasty term they decide to use are also people who these same terrorists would kill, so they should be seeking our cooperation and not our submission to them. Besides their kind of protection is not the kind of protection anyone should want.

  • Jim Maloney

At least he got the number of victims correct. 49. And didn’t include the shooter among the dead as the media did at the time.

  • Ninja0980

You’re catering to bigots and appointing judges who want to turn back the clock on all of the rights we’ve gained.
And you think that since we won’t be murdered, we should be grateful to you for keeping us safe from the big bad Muslims or accept faux sympathy.
    Nope.
Fuck you, your fake sympathy and your attempts to make us as bigoted as you.

  • Will Parkinson

Let me fix that headline for you: Trump spits on graves of massacre victims.

  • FAEN

If he hasn’t already he’ll focus on the religion of the terrorist rather than the victims. And as he claims he will ‘never forget’ our fallen brothers and sisters his anti gay, anti immigrant administration(I use that term loosely)denies visas to our gay Chechen brothers who are being hunted, tortured and killed.

Every fucking day I keep wondering how the hell we went from Obama to this vindictive, thin skinned troll.

  • Joseph Miceli

Really? Yet he refuses to observe Pride at the White House and continues to encourage “Religious Rights” legislation?
Oh , fuck you very much Trump.

  • pj

  • Natty Enquirer

Touching. Will the “tweet” be framed and sent to the survivors?

  • jrex

Wow, doesn’t even acknowledge the victims were LGBTQ.

    • That’s because the PR person writing it had to steer clear of mentioning LGBTQ folks so not to anger his base.

I am willing to spot him on this one thing. I will take a moment to say “thank you”. Pause. That moment is now over, and I have not forgotten the mountain of fecal matter oozing out of him on a continual basis.

    • NZArtist

He didn’t write that message. It doesn’t have any of his linguistic characteristics at all. That was a message put out by his PR department. You can be assured Trump doesn’t give a tiny shit about gays killed a year ago.

      • DrRobY

Agreed; kinda figured. I am being told by my Republican mother that he can’t be all that evil. So I gave him that one second. I have since gone back to hating that same piece of shit.

  • However difficult it may be to NOT click on the comments attached to this tweet, just don’t do it. Everything about the victims is lost on these people. Not worth the anguish.

Funny, white supremacists kill gays and he’s still silent

  • josephsinger

Trump DGAS about anyone other than himself. The only reason he mentioned the victims is because his ‘handlers’ told him he needed to do it. Trump is a self-important grifter. He would throw Jared, Ivanka, Barron and Melania under the bus if it advanced his agenda.

  • Completely what I expected. Also expected, the fact that he made NO mention of the LGBT community in this. Also expected, the fact that this is nothing more than a half-assed attempt to distract from a: he failed bigly to issue a Pride Month proclamation and b: the impending impeachment mess that is building on Capitol Hill. Expected to come: some shitter-storm about how the 9th Circuit is “failing” to protect the U.S. from terrorists, and a falsely connected reference to Pulse Massacre. Wait for it…
