Death To Gays Pastor: The Handmaid’s Tale Conditions Americans To Commit Genocide Against Christians

Kyle Mantyla reports at Right Wing Watch:

Radical anti-LGBTQ pastor and radio host Kevin Swanson warned last week that the Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a propaganda effort designed to condition Americans to carry out a genocide against conservative Christians.

“It’s a shocking story and meant for the persecution of Christians,” Swanson said on his radio program. “They create a gigantic caricature of a biblical Christian and then they turn them into rapists, so this kind of thing is propaganda, pure and simple propaganda. This is the kind of thing that happened with the Jews in the 1930s.”

Swanson earned national headlines in 2015 for calling for the execution of homosexuals shortly before introducing Ted Cruz to speak. A Cruz spokesman later expressed regret for the appearance, but only after weeks of furor from the media. More recently, Swanson declared that the Pulse victims got what they deserved because “God gives up on sinners.” Last month Swanson warned that the goal of public schools is to turn children into “transgender communists.”

Never heard of The Handmaid’s Tale before it came to television, did you, Mr. Swanson?

You get everything you know from the Boob Tube, don’t you? If it isn’t televised, it doesn’t exist.

    Fucking idiot.
Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’s Tale in 1985.

Exactly!!! I just made the same point in a comment. The ignorant fool.

      • Ginger Snap

        I did too.

        • GayOldLady

Because we read we know how old this Novel is. I read it shortly after it was published and read it again about a year ago and before it became a tv series. It’s amazing how fragile and vulnerable the largest religious sect on the planet views itself.

My Mom gave it to me to read as with almost any great book ever written was given to me by my Mother.

          • DonnaLee

Mine was the opposite, I gave her all the best books she loved. She told me books were not interesting to her for many years, then after she had to get glasses, all of a sudden she’s reading constantly. *Sigh* Her having less vanity could have made for a much calmer childhood for me.

    • Regan DuCasse

I read that book when it first came out, I was about 25 years old. And being a female, and choosing NOT to have children, I found it’s premise chillingly present when I found out how damn difficult it is for a female NOT to have children in our society.
Of course since Swanson is a selfish, entitled MAN, he doesn’t get that it wasn’t about CHRISTIANS, but about male dominance and how destructive it’s ALWAYS been for so many people.
And Christians DO have blood on their hands in any case. It’s not like their influence has been hearts, coronets and all beneficent.
They’ve done some very brutal things, even in contemporary times.
The institutionalization of NA children and the Magdalene Laundries are but a few examples.

  • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Swanson is right to fear The Handmaid’s Tale. The story is exactly the kind of future we will have if Swanson is listened to and his counter-reality bullsh*t is believed. Religion is not a good / neutral force in society and becomes downright evil when it’s power grows. We need not look only to Gilead to see that fact; we have the entire middle east for examples.

      Today’s Guardian

Rare US floods to become the norm if emissions aren’t cut, study warns

Princeton-Rutgers study finds sharp increase in risk of frequent deluges
‘Many cities are behind the eight-ball in terms of preparing for flooding’

‘The study, undertaken by researchers from Princeton and Rutgers universities, found that along all of the US coastline, the average risk of a 100-year flood will increase 40-fold by 2050.
If emissions are not curbed, San Francisco and Seattle would both get a 100-year flood every year by 2050, while San Diego would expect 10 such events annually and Key West in Florida would be hit 11 times a year. …. New York City is set to get a 100-year flood every 20 years by 2050 but this frequency would leap to a large flood every other month by 2100.

“Most coastal areas will experience relatively large increases in
flooding events,” he said. “A 40-fold increase on average is gigantic –
cities may not be able to defend themselves. They will have to spend a
lot of money or there will be quite a lot of damage.’

      • Hue-Man

Something I hadn’t thought about (yes, there are many things). Rising water levels means rising water tables. Your basement could “flood” from the ground up and in a semi-desert!

“We can hold back the lake with sand bags but we can’t stop the groundwater from seeping up. So throughout the city over the next month, you’ll see roads partially closed or closed because groundwater now moves as the lake water moves up,” said [Kelowna, B.C.]City Manager Ron Mattiussi during a news conference on Monday.
Kelowna is located in the semi-arid Okanagan Valley. Lowest annual rainfall 7 inches, highest rainfall 21 inches (1996).

Google Chalcedon Foundation. Google Dominionism. Google Christian Reconstruction.

All of these describe efforts by a number of religious organizations to impose a theocratic government on the U.S. (and, one implies, the world, given that dominionism takes it’s name from the Biblical God’s command to have “dominion over the earth.”).

The type of totalitarianism seen in the Handmaid’s Tale isn’t really that far from what RJ Rushdoony (Chalcedon’s founder) and others wanted. The only difference is Atwood throws in a fertility crisis to create the need for the handmaids. The executions of blasphemers, adulterers, gays, idolators? All fair game under a dominionist society.

Boo hoo, people are catching on to your violent, bloodthirsty bullshit. Why the hell should I care about Swanson’s life, when he is so eager to end mine?

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet in the comments, but Swanson’s description of what the book is about? That’s not what the book is about. The plot that Swanson describes? That’s not the plot of the book.

Swanson took a snippet of what someone else (his wife) said about the book and extrapolated his entire position based on his interpretation of what someone else said without researching the source document–in other words, a typical christian.
