LIVE VIDEO: Trump Speaks At Arab Islamic Summit

CNN reports:

President Donald Trump on Sunday will look to make clear that the United States is not at war with Islam in a major speech here on Sunday, instead defining the battle against terrorist groups as a “battle between good and evil.”

In a departure from the Islamophobic rhetoric he sometimes deployed on the campaign trail, Trump will speak out against the militant, political ideology of “Islamist extremism,” according to excerpts of the speech released by the White House. Trump’s expected use of that term — rather than “radical Islam” — will send signals in this region that Trump is putting distance between Islam and the ideology that fuels terrorist groups like ISIS.

“This is not a battle between different faiths, different sects, or different civilizations,” Trump will say, according to the prepared remarks. “This is a battle between barbaric criminals who seek to obliterate human life, and decent people of all religions who seek to protect it. This is a battle between good and evil.”

Trump’s speech was reportedly written by Muslim travel ban author Stephen Miller.

He’ll be off message by the first comma. This will be remembered as his farewell tour. Time to throw in the toupee.

And the first person to compare this to Cher’s many farewell tours gets my disdain.

  • BobSF_94117

What utter crap. I mean coming from him, it’s utter, putrid crap.

    • FAEN

Everything that comes out of his mouth is putrid crap.

  • zhera

In other words, he’ll speak Democratic. I do wonder if he’ll be able to do it without veering off into cray cray land, where the EC maps and crowd numbers lie.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Why won’t he say “radical islamic terrorism”? WHY!!!

      • zhera

SAY THE WORDS! SAY THE WORDS!

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

          Lol !
Say the words to their faces, damn it!!!

      • -M-

Maybe McMaster told Donald the Secret Service would shoot him if he did? It’s what I would have said if I was stuck trying to keep Cheatolini from creating any major international incidents or giving away classified information.

  • Tor

I like my hypocrisy with a side of schadenfreude.

    • zhera

And for dessert, a delicious dish of Brainfart Mind Pretzel.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

This speech should go over well on Breitbart.

  • PickyPecker
  • marshlc

You know what would be great, on this trip? If someone from some Islamic country were to challenge him on the Muslim ban.

“You say ‘This is not a battle between different faiths, different sects, or different civilizations,’ yet the only reason those from five Muslim countries are still allowed to enter the US is that your own nation’s laws will not allow the ban. Why should we believe anything you say?”

    • Dramphooey

The people he is meeting believe in bans. They’d probably gladly ban Christians from their countries and persecute their nationals who convert to Christianity. When the bad guys rage about “globalism” they hate the idea of a world where people accept one another. They love armed camps.

  • BobSF_94117

So, will his base be upset or will they cheer him for his “ground-breaking leadership”???

    • zhera

As always, just look at what they said whenever Obama did something. If they said Kenyan, muslim, traitor, etc., they will say the opposite about Donnie. Clever, diplomatic, OIL!, statesman, leader, etc.

  • FAEN

‘You’re all radical Muslims who hate America but if you have a lot of money you’re willing to throw my way we can be friends’.

    • DonnaLee

Or jewelry. We’ve already seen what they can get for jewelry.

  • Elagabalus

So in other words everything he said during the campaign was just a bunch of lies designed to reel in the lowest common denominator. What else is new?

    • David Walker

No. He was making a pun. Or was it sarcasm? Maybe a palin-drone.

      • Andymac3

“Radical Islamic terrorism”, see, he is protected by those invincible air quotes.

“Hair Furher” could have been something that the Saudi king murmered, just surmising.

  • We all know he’s gonna fuck this up. It’s rather a question, to what degree?

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Little dino thinks he’ll wait just until his feet are safe in Israel, before he says “radical islamic terrorism”. Coward!!

  • That_Looks_Delicious
    • JT

      Answer: chickenshit.

  • netxtown

    “Watch > LIVE!”

I’ll go with what’s behind curtain 2. At least it comes with a real wizard…

  • Karl Dubhe

Oh, how bad could it be?

Shouldn’t it have started 40 minutes ago?

  • That sounds like the speech he should have given while at Take-Away Others Liberty University..

    • Natty Enquirer

Infuriating, isn’t it? The noble sentiment is reserved for kissing up to foreign rulers while the ride to victory at home depended on appealing to the worst in his constituents.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

Dumpf: This is a battle between good and evil.
Good Americans: The battle to IMPEACH Dumpf will rage until the evil is rid from our land!

  • Natty Enquirer

“And in conclusion, please keep sending us your oil.”

    • “and in conclusion, please don’t spend any money on developing alternative energy technologies which will contribute to stopping runaway climate change that will kill all your grandchildren before their time.”

    • Hue-Man

Due to U.S. domestic production (shale) and better fuel efficiency, U.S. net imports in 2016 were 4.87 million barrels per day. Canada supplied 3.8 million b/d + Mexico 0.67 million b/d = 4.47 million b/d from North America. Keystone XL pipeline could replace Saudi oil completely.

I’m not saying that oil is dead but it does call into question the unchanged Middle East policies, especially tip-toeing around the Saudis.

      • BobSF_94117

There is one world market for oil. It doesn’t matter that the U.S. doesn’t use much Saudi oil. Europe does. China does. Africa does. If the Saudis cut back production, if the Russians cut back production*, prices go up around the world.

        * And that’s what happened, but in reverse. Several years ago, Russia and the Saudis increased production to drive U.S. shale and alternative energy into the ground (ahem). Another goal was to harm Iran’s export economy. Oil prices dropped. They’ve been creeping up because the Saudis are cutting production a little bit. Russia would like to, in order to squeeze the West, but it can’t afford to, so they’ve agreed with the Saudis to start cutting back more next year.

We’re not toe-tipping around Saudi Arabia over oil. We’ve picked them over Iran and we’re working towards an Arab World War.

  • jimbo65

“This is a battle between good and evil.” I feel that way every day watching 45 and the GOP ruin this country.

    • FAEN

      Testify!

  • Silver Badger

While I would watch a good beheading, I can’t think of any other reason to waste my time on the pissant.

    • Karl Dubhe

I was willing, but they’re late again. And outside beckons…

      Toodles.

  • ByronK

    So many barcaloungers!

  • JT

Drumpf: I luv the Muslims’ money!

  • JohnJay

Ooooh. Just saw Jared on the live feed. Too bad for him. Such a nice boy. And such perfect posture. Really. Did you ever notice when sitting at meetings, everyone else is leaning this way and that, or slouching… but Jared is sitting so straight. Just like a little third grader when the teacher yells sit up straight.

  • yes b’y

    Jesus H Christ, start already

  • JohnJay

“His excellency, … Donald Trump” !!! Really??!

  • Stogiebear

“odious attempt” — allusion to Drumpf’s travel ban.

  • JohnJay

Trump is trying to look deep in thought, but he just looks stoned.

    • Reality.Bites

OMIGOD I have something in common with Trump

  • From PBS article accompanying their feed of this: “El-Sissi invited Trump to visit him in Egypt, adding, “You are a unique personality that is capable of doing the impossible.” As the participants laughed, Trump responded: “I agree.”

The president then complimented el-Sissi’s choice of footwear, telling his Egyptian counterpart “Love your shoes. Boy, those shoes” after their brief remarks to the press”

    Jesus Roller-Blading Christ. 🙄😒

    • David Walker

On the Boardwalk in Atlantic City Back Then, groups of men lined the parade route on the first day of the Miss America pageant, calling out “Show your shoes!” to the confused contestants. This as opposed to the call for showing a more personal part of the anatomy during Mardi Gras parades.

  • He’s nodding off again.

  • JohnJay

Anyone know what the ampersand sign “&” is for on the banner?
Opps! Here we go. The Don.

  • BobSF_94117

    I just can’t

    • David Walker

      I just won’t.

  • JohnJay

I was right, he is drugged. (That’s so he reads the teleprompter, and doesn’t have the mind to go off script).

  • ByronK

    brace yourselves…

  • houstonray

He’s talking like he’s never been there, doesn’t he have hotels and/or golf courses all over the place there?

    • BobSF_94117

Private jet, limo with tinted windows, private suite like all his other private suites at his hotels, KFC for dinner, limo with tinted windows, private jet.

      • houstonray

        LOL!!!!

  • yes b’y

king solomon we love your mines

  • Stogiebear

    VERY, VERY — Don’t drink.

  • He’s using his “precidental” voice.

  • medaka

    Xanax. Lots of Xanax.

    • yes b’y

      hoping it’s a lethal dose

      • medaka

        I’ll pitch in a few 🙂

  • JohnJay

Here it comes: Me! Me! MEMEMEME!!!!!

  • houstonray

    Wha wha what????

  • medaka

    Unpresidented. Drink.

  • houstonray

I can’t wait for him to talk about the election and how bigly he won it.

  • Bluto

jesus christ how many drugs did they pump into cheetolini?

    • medaka

      not enough

    • i have often wondered at the sorts of drug cocktails they feed someone like this. money is no object, and his doctors are free to give him anything, legal, proven or otherwise. and then there is the question of his personal prefs. this is a guy who probably did a whole lot of coke back in the day. when people retire from that, what do they like? but yeah, he’s a drugged out wind up doll, and that’s been clear since this whole mess started.

  • “Sovereign Nation”, like he could even tell anyone what exactly that is.

  • Stogiebear

    Vankish the forshes?

  • medaka

He’s doing the OK sign — how soon before we get thumbs up?

    • yes b’y

      I can’t wait, very taboo

      • medaka

Maybe at the very end? I’ve had enough wine to last through this.

  • medaka

    Mooozlim

  • medaka

    Russia. Jina.

  • -M-

President Obama spent eight years saying that, without endorsing racists and fascists like Bannon or Miller (or Sessions or…), and the Republicans called him a traitor for it.

  • medaka

“massive amounts of….” OIL AND MONEY!

  • JohnJay

OK. Jared must have had some input. I’m sure Donald has no idea what the Hajj is.

  • I dream of being able to pay my rent, eat AND have medical care all at once.

  • Bluto

“one of the world’s great faiths.” they’re not buying your bullshit, twitler

    • medaka

They look really bored. I bet they can’t wait to get in line for the jello shots afgter it’s all over.

  • medaka

Petra. Great place for a casino.

    • Stogiebear

They can use all that sandstone to make new glass.

  • ByronK

so painful to listen to him…

  • IAMBOWLINGGREEN

Don’t forget to curtsy, Trump, when you’ve finished dismissing human rights…

  • medaka

“condom nation, of the skill in.”

  • yes b’y

For 2 hours the talking heads will chatting about how presidential he is

    • houstonray

I know, that is SO coming. It’s another reset button! Wheee!!!!!

  • medaka

    “Jewish”

    Yeah, Jarvanka wrote this one.

  • JohnJay

OK… now he’s trying to shame them!

  • Bluto

“ancient ground”, what is our dirt newer than theirs? We have the best dirt.

  • “Drive them out of this Earth!” Yeah, everyone in that room is already perfectly fine with killing anyone who disagrees with them, Donnie.

  • medaka

    “Drive Them Out x etc”

    That was 714 powerful.

Oh, and he keeps saying “God” — why can’t he say “Allah”?

  • medaka

    “Joy Neffert”

  • Stogiebear

Ok, the hands are getting into the act. “Thumbs up” any time now.

    • medaka

I’m trying not to watch. Listening is hard enough.

  • JohnJay

I notice his speech is not being interrupted by applause.

  • houstonray

The architecture and decor of that room (and I assume the building) is incredible. Yeah, I’ve got it on but my mind is drifting. It is beautiful indeed.

    • BobSF_94117

No one does opulent like the Arabs. The Chinese sort of try, but it’s always off a bit. The Russians try, too, but the chip on their shoulders makes everything come out like Versailles-wannabe.

      • medaka

Yeah. Arabic and Persian (and thus Mughal) architecture are FTW.

        • Nychta

I feel that way about the pre 20th century architecture, especially mosques. But some of the more recent architecture …. no.

    • All I think about when I see it is how long will it before those chairs show up in the WH and how long before he tries to covert parts of the WH to look like this.

  • ByronK

and islam stuff, all that stuff

  • IAMBOWLINGGREEN

Saudi King thinking… ‘I’m glad he dismissed our human rights record, but when will this useful idiot shut the fuck up ?’

    • BobSF_94117

It’s nice to know, I suppose, that we’re not alone in wondering if this is all some elaborate, holographic joke…

  • houstonray

    “Barber-ism”? Haircuts? or “Barbra-ism”? Streisand?

  • medaka

    Esssnithity.

    WOW.

    “A fabulous place”…. He’s going a offy scripty…

    • -M-

      Uh-oh. 😳

  • JohnJay

OK, let’s diss the country that’s not part of this group, Iran. Them’s are shia’s anyway. (not that Donald know what’s the diff)

    • BobSF_94117

This speech, and American throwing itself into the coming Arab war firmly on the side of the Sunni, is one of the few things future history books will say about the Trump presidency. Other than page after page of WTF?

  • houstonray

I so want him to say “King Soloman, I thank you and I really really can’t wait to see your mines…..”

  • houstonray

    Fertile…..so fertile……

  • Weird. I’ve been watching it on the PBS site and it just went to a test pattern, with a rather loud tone, and reads “New York. #The Switch” ?

  • Scott Fitler

The only thing that would make this speech historic is if he faints at the end or throws up on the king.

  • medaka
  • houstonray

Oh, I can’t watch the reaction, I just heard the words (on MSNBC no less) “it was an amazing performance by President Trump”.

    I JUST FUCKING CAN’T……..

  • IAMBOWLINGGREEN
    • houstonray

      If only!

  • JohnJay

So they brought back Thomas Roberts on MSNBC. I thought he’d been off the air since December… just waiting for his contract to end in July.

  • BobSF_94117

    More tea.

  • 5moreminutes*imtired

I’d rather listen to Charlie Brown’s teach talk for an hour.

  • JCF

“President Donald Trump… defining the battle… as a “battle
    between good and evil.”

As every human being is a combination of both, it would usually be difficult to say which side any given human being is on.

In Drumpf’s case, it’s NOT difficult.
