REPORT: Russian Officials Heard Bragging About Using Michael Flynn To Influence Trump Team [VIDEO]

CNN reports:

Russian officials bragged in conversations during the presidential campaign that they had cultivated a strong relationship with former Trump adviser retired Gen. Michael Flynn and believed they could use him to influence Donald Trump and his team, sources told CNN.

The conversations deeply concerned US intelligence officials, some of whom acted on their own to limit how much sensitive information they shared with Flynn, who was tapped to become Trump’s national security adviser, current and former governments officials said.

“This was a five-alarm fire from early on,” one former Obama administration official said, “the way the Russians were talking about him.” Another former administration official said Flynn was viewed as a potential national security problem.

  • Gigi

And yet there are still progressives saying this whole Russian thing is totally overblown. That nothing will come of it. I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. The question is: will the entire truth be uncovered?

    • Droz

He’ll resign, Pence will pardon him and we’ll be living in a theocracy until 2021.

      • safari

I still think Pence will have to go, too. He had to be complicit with the Flynn mess.

        • paganguy

I still think the whole thing (including the cover-up) could take out Pence and Ryan (and McConnell, but he’s not in the line of succession). And if it does, after Ryan comes Hatch. Better? Worse? Who knows… Sadly, unless there is a way to invalidate the whole election and turn back time, we’re pretty much screwed.

      • JohnJay

No, No, NO! Can’t get rid of Trump until after January 2019 (when the results of the 2018 election take effect). We need the House and Senate to change control to democratic. THEN.. go after both Trump and Pence. That would mean the Speaker of the House would become… President Nancy Pelosi.

      • Gigi

You’ll trade one nightmare for a different kind of nightmare. Sad.

        • Droz

I don’t want this, I’m just telling you where this whole situation leads.

          • Gigi

            Yes, I got that.

        • -M-

Maybe. But a nightmare with reduced risk of a nuclear war or a complete breakdown of international stability is still an improvement and the least we owe the world after last fall.

    • CottonBlimp

I cannot comprehend the progressives saying that shit. How do you just ignore this avalanche of Russian connections?

Too many progressives care more about pretending to be smarter than everyone else in the room than they care about facts.

I was on a 1950s horror movie binge the other night. Love those old movies. They are so cheesy. Same formula for all of them. The handsome, strong, intelligent man of science. His ditzy, oh I’m just a girl, wife or girlfriend. The not very attractive sidekick. Fighting some strange, usually atomic, monster.

      • greenmanTN

Very Cold War jingoistic, but very visually striking in many scenes…

        • samcollins

OMG!! I saw that movie in the theater when I was a kid and it scared the living bejeezus out of me!

The school boy wearing a baseball cap. The train full of people being attacked by the monster.

Bluto, Please, please tell me what that is from. I thought I’d seen every awful film on earth.

      • Bluto

I have no idea. Just sumthin I saw on the interwebs.

Thanks anyway. I’ll probably spend much of the weekend doing important research.

      • Ultra Q Television Series according to google image.

Ultra Q (ウルトラQ? Urutora Kyū) is a tokusatsu science fiction/kaiju series made in the tradition of Toho’s many tokusatsu sci-fi/horror films.

Produced in black and white by Tokyo Broadcasting System/Tsuburaya Productions, this is actually the first of the long-running Ultra Series, and was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) from January 2 to July 3, 1966 (the final episode was preempted until December 14, 1967), with a total of 28 episodes. This series was followed two weeks later by the more popular Ultraman (Urutoraman, 1966), the second Ultra Series.

Ultra Q can be described as a half-hour Toho kaiju series. Executive Producer Eiji Tsuburaya intended this series to be more like the American television series The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, featuring all kinds of strange and unusual stories. After a survey, the TBS network convinced Tsuburaya Productions to add more giant monsters, as children were intensely interested in them, since Godzilla (Gojira) and Gamera were all the rage at the time (the first “Kaiju Boom” took off after Ultra Q became an enormous hit).[1] Much like The X-Files, the series features continuing characters who investigate strange supernatural phenomena, including giant monsters, aliens, ghosts, and various other threats.

The original planned title of this project was Unbalance, and was subsequently rechristened Ultra Q (the English word, “Ultra” had become popular because of the Gold Medal winning Japanese gymnast during the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, who used a technique called “Ultra C”, which caused the word to becoming a catch phrase.) The series began production in 1964, with the premiere set for January 1966. At the time, this was the most expensive television series ever produced in Japan. The “Q” stands for “Question” and also tied with another hit TBS series, Obake no Q-tarō, an animated series based on the manga by Fujiko Fujio.[2]

You know waaaaaay too much about Japanese TV.

Doug105 – You are the best. I responded earlier, but discus sent my comment to the cornfield.

The point is, I figured I’d be spending the better part of the day trying to find episodes online. Imagine my surprise and joy that there are many episodes on YouTube. They are not dubbed or subtitled, but the sheer wackiness will make them a treat to watch as is. We’ll make up our own dialog like Mystery Science Theater – but without the cute robots.

Thank you for the research and reply. We’re going to have a fun night thanks to you.

          Sincerely, Your Humble Servant, Shellback

How did the US National Security going from zero to none? The cold war never ended. The Russians and the Chinese and other US adversaries never stray their focus from taking down the country. They are relentless to seize every opportunity to dominate the world. These countries got plenty of help from the corrupted corporations and politicians in the US. They were and are holding a fire sale on behalf of the Americans for their own personal gains. Who cares if the country goes under? They can always purchase a citizenship from another country like Peter Thiel. These are no Americans! They have zero loyalty accept to their own bank accounts. And their stupid supporters like the rest of the citizens are just part of the collateral damage when the empire falls.

    • BobSF_94117

Of course the Cold War ended. This isn’t about Russia vs. the U.S. This is about oligarchy and on-it’s-way-to-oligarchy. The Putin class is in league with the Murdoch/Koch/Ailes/Mercer class.

Being Flynn “…was a five-alarm fire from early on” – and it appears both sides were aware – then I fully question the conduct and ethics of both Dems and Repugs for allowing this charade to progress. Has whistleblowing become a dirty word, or are there more hands in the Russian kettle?

    • BobSF_94117

While you’re fully questioning both sides, remember that the handful of senators and representatives are bound by the rules to silence unless they can get a vote to issue a statement. Remember who is in charge of the committees.

  • safari

Also remember that yesterday we learned that Donald bragged to the Russians — including one known spy that had contact with Sessions and Flynn that wasn’t disclosed — in the oval office that he fired Comey to relieve his anxiety about the Russian investigation.

Question for those more knowledgable than I: Can any of this be considered treason?

    • Rebecca Gardner

      18 U.S. Code § 2381 – Treason

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
