Melania Declines To Wear Headscarf Despite Trump’s Attack On Michelle Obama For Doing The Same

ABC News reports:

First lady Melania Trump stepped off Air Force One at King Khalid International Airport Saturday morning without a head scarf — following the example of her predecessor, Michelle Obama — and potentially creating a stir in this conservative Islamic country.

Women here, including visitors and foreign dignitaries, are expected to be fully covered in public, including their head and hair, per religious and legal code. Senior adviser Ivanka Trump, traveling as part of the presidential entourage, was also seen not wearing an abaya.

When Mrs. Obama visited with her husband in January 2015, her flouting of the custom was seen by some as a sign of disrespect to her hosts. The White House at the time said she intended to make a statement in a country where women have few rights. One of those critical of her move: Donald Trump.

Below is how homocon bloggerΒ Gateway Pundit is reporting the story.

The silver shield to the left of his star is a miniature NYPD shield. Has a black band on it. Probably has something stupid like 9/11 as the number. So, yeah, it does not belong on his uniform. He’s just a fucking psycho, so, well, there’s that.

    • northern_neighbour

Oh yeah, he’s a big bad dude in some kind of racial self denial, found his own path to fame and bad ass notoriety in a WHITE WALKER WISCONSIN milWAUKEE WORLD.

At some level I suppose he is vaguely aware that he is a black man doing the control work of the WHITE master who has got all the power, but is giving him a share as their KAPO, thus all the self important medallions and decorations supposedly from the plantation owner.

On the one hand I guess one should feel some pity for the compromises he made psychologically he to get where he is, he is a poster boy for a certain twisted result from black oppression in America ….

… but for his own abuse of power and for having unnecessary death of persons in his custody … basically through cruelty … he should be relieved of his command. But that isn’t gonna happen anytime soon in a Walker Wisconsin Trumpian Alternate Universe.

      • Todd20036

I pity no one who kills a man for pleasure.

        • northern_neighbour

I agree with you, Todd, that no matter how psychologically fucked up somebody is there is no excuse for killing a fellow human being. I’m not for the death penalty but the man should be made to account for his crime.

So maybe pity is too strong a word, but sometimes we need to get some “insight” into the psychopathology of those who, in effect kill one or more of their fellows.

We don’t owe the women enslaving Saudis our respect. Bravo to Melania. Saudi women can look to her refusal to cover her head and gain strength by it. The women in Dubai don’t have to cover their heads. Nor Jordan. I have known two Iranian women, one in college and one in law school, and they scorned the practice saying it enslaved women. Respect. That’s a two way street. The Saudis are our business partners. They buy our weapons. And they’re strategic military partners. But they’ve screwed us with Opec. And they probably are complicit in the destruction of the World Trade Center towers. And I personally have no respect for them or the way they treat their women.

    • Tiger Quinn

Good. Lord. How long HAVE you been a Republican and why are you here.

(Also it’s a personal choice of religious origin – it’s not as repressive as Westerners have been led to believe)

      • northern_neighbour

It can, in America, be a woman’s choice to show deference to her imagined creator, the supposed God of all life etc. and that would be a civil right that should be honoured. However in Saudi Arabia, there is no choice, so no matter how they spin it, it is a symbol of the repression/oppression of women, even if 90% of them have internalized it from birth … it does represent the fact visually and symbolicaly that they lack the freedom, respect and equality in society that is enjoyed by their fathers, brothers, and sons, no matter how privileged or well treated within their family … (or not).

For American women working in Saudi, it may be more a matter of their personal safety than the need to show “cultural sensitivity”. But the wives of heads of state and high government officials who are women need not choose to do that.

        • -M-

Even in many Muslim countries it’s a choice, even if it’s a cultural norm. Saudi Arabia is not one of those, so I do like it when strong women (or even Melania) choose to send a message there instead. If the Saud want more respect they should be better leaders. Donnie Dumkoff of course stupidly criticized the Obamas for doing what his wife and daughter are doing now.

This has nothing to do with respect, but hypocrisy. Try reading the article.

my grandma would spend her evenings watching tv and making those. we never used them on the backs of chairs, but on end tables, etc. everything sat on either it’s own little doily or there was a big one that covered the whole table or top of the tv. they were everywhere!

      • MaryJOGrady

There were actually silly little machine-made doilies called “chapel veils.” They came in their own plastic cases, to be kept in one’s handbag along with a couple of bobby pins in case of a sudden urge to “pay a visit to the Blessed Sacrament.” There was a drawer full of them in the house where I grew up.

    • Rebecca Gardner

      This is my email

      To whom it may concern:
Access to health care in this country has become a nation crisis and an embarrassment internationally. The lives of human beings should never have been made a for profit industry. Access to health care must be made a right and not a privilege available only to those who can afford it.

The Affordable Care Act is a good start but “TrumpCare” is tantamount to capital punishment and must never be made into law. If you truly care about health care reform and not making the CEOs of insurance companies exponentially wealthier, then you will push for a single payer version of health care. Basically, Medicare for all.

      Sincerely, your employer,
      Rebecca

      • Adam King

I’d be able to smile like crazy, because I am the sort of lady who would have made that marriage sing. I can suck off a gross guy while spending his money. She looks like she wants to die.

        • Silver Badger

I’m afraid that in her position, I’m with her. After a very short while, being treated like trash gets old VERY quickly.

  • sword

Michelle was also criticized by the Glorious Leader because of her in-action concerning Benghazi…oh…wait…maybe it was another woman…now what was her name again???

  • Natty Enquirer

Fine with me. It’s like not bowing to a foreign ruler when you’re not a subject. As for the hypocrisy, well, that’s par for the course.

  • Paula

Only republican women need to wear the headscarf because they know their place. They are just property anyway. /s

    • Silver Badger

Perhaps this is one reason she seldom smiles.

      • MaryJOGrady

It’s that or all the Botox.

    • edrex

i want to see her in one of those ” handmaiden’s tale” getups. (you know, mike pence’s version of sexy lingere.)

  • i don’t really want to, but this makes me like her, just a bit. fuck those men who think a woman needs to cover herself. and i love the Logan’s Run costume she chose. i wonder if she was thinking of that movie when she told her dresser what she wanted to wear.

  • lattebud

I just spoke to a friend in Saudi Arabia and they are just fine with Melina not wearing a headscarf because she is a guest. However, he hopes she doesn’t wear anything too revealing or too tight. But, Melania seems to have a bit more knowledge of the world than Donald.

  • Happy_Housewife

She may not be wearing a headscarf, but what’s with the evening gown? Or is that a pantsuit?

    • Pantsuit.

      • GeoffreyPS

        Stone the harlot!

      • Happy_Housewife

Black. In the desert. In the daytime…

  • Friday

More right-wing lies and hypocrisy… about such a simple thing.

    • Silver Badger

Were you honestly expecting anything else? That’s all they got!

      • Friday

The Drumphs may be dangerously-unpredictable, but *never* surprising.

  • stanhope

Melania is earning every dime…..at least she was able to negotiate no sex in the champagne room LOL

    • Silver Badger

I believe she has taken a vow of celibacy. At least I hope she has.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

Only her hunky body-sculpting trainer knows for sure. /s

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci
  • Sir Nigel

I suggest you increase your dosage, Joe.
Mrs Trump’s actions do not constitute his “hypocrisy”.

    • Silver Badger

Her husband’s action do. He is the lord and master and she didn’t follow orders. It is basically his fault for being such a poor husband and president.

    • edrex

interesting logical point. so let’s just replace “mrs. obama” with “mrs. trump” in that 2015 tweet and call it good.

  • Halou

Oh, she still exists. That’s a shame.

  • Tom G

There’s a Trump tweet for every occasion, and it’s a joy seeing his hypocrisy almost daily.

  • netxtown

oh fer kriste’s sake…just say it donnie……that BLACK woman.

    fuck I hate that sonofabitch…..

    • Silver Badger

The beautiful, refined, tasteful, classy, credit to our nation, black woman?

Don’t hate the pissant, pity his wife. And… go ahead and hate him.

  • Crow on a Top Hat

Oh, I can’t wait until this trip blows up in his face. I bet someone throws a shoe at him.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

      Melania

    • Silver Badger

I kept an old pair of shoes in my car for years, just incase I ran into bushII. Now I keep a bottle of piss.

  • Lindoro Almaviva
    • Lantor

Sometimes, I think it’s a shame the Obamas take the high road…I would love to see both of them unload on him.

  • Matt

I think the Slovenian whore should be able to do whatever she wants – it’s why she married trump, right? Or was that ‘money’? Whatever. She’s nothing to anyone, except deplorables.

  • Jeffrey

As I continue to assert, for every Trump tweet there is an equal and opposite Trump action

    • edrex

      brilliant.

  • JWC

Has he done anything embarrasing yet!!!

    • Miji

Air Force One arrived in Saudi Arabia. He exited as the president. I’m embarrassed.

      • JWC

hang in there the day is young Its just thiswhole group is a fuck Up I have more culture in my left earlobe than that group has combined I see they scrubbed Bannon up andgave him good makeup th hide his blotched face

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

I wondered if they stuffed him full of tranquilizers and something to cause laryngitis so he doesn’t cause WW3.

  • SDG

“enuf”. I guess when you have tiny hands, it’s hard to type!

  • boobert

Republican motto, “do as I say, not as I do”.

  • oregonduckbrad

God, this guy’s a total asshole.

  • David

In Saudi Arabia, women are slaves with zero rights, who are kept locked away in separate rooms. Melanoma will feel right at home there.

  • LesbianTippingHabits

Not re tipping, but the headscarf is not the only clothing the future Mrs. Trump has declined to wear. Thank you.

  • Kenster999

I followed that link to the article on Gateway Pundit, and I gotta say… wow! The comment area is such a cess pool of stupidity and assholery. The article is mostly just quoting an article on Russia Today (!). The picture at the top of the article (as Joe shows above) shows Michelle Obama wearing a scarf; at least 90% of the commenters simply assume that the picture was from when Michelle visited Saudi Arabia and roundly criticized her for submitting to Islam and not standing up for American values. A few people pointed out the Michelle did *not* wear a scarf, but those comments got no “Likes” and didn’t change the tide of comments. Oh, there are also quite a lot of comments that simply insult Michelle’s appearance, likening her to Chewbacca or the salt monster from Star Trek (TOS). Stay classy, guys! :-/

  • andrew

No American woman, no 21st century woman should ever wear a head scarf in the presence of those primitives.

  • David Kerlick

Spelling it “enuf” appeals to his base, who were always put upon for doing poorly in school.

  • Jukesgrrl

Does Lord Dampnut know that the Saudi royalty looks down on him because he allows his wife to show off her hair? In the Middle East, it’s the equivalent of “show us your boobies.” And it’s a mark on him, not so much her, that he fails to “control” her. If someone brings their dog to my house and it wrecks my living room, do I blame the dog? No, I blame the owner for not controlling his pet. That’s the way the Saudis look at Melania.

  • sword

No different than Saudi Princes driving their Lambos in the US at 150 mph! They have diplomatic immunity so they could care less. Same goes for the First Ladies.

  • willward

Why are you criticizing Melania? She is right and Michele Obama was right. The one to criticize is Trump who made an issue of this and all the right-wing bloggers and Fox News who tried to make it negative for M. Obama.

  • leastyebejudged

    Money changes everything !
