Trump To Name Newt Gingrich’s Former Mistress As Vatican Ambassador Ahead Of Meeting With Pope

CNN reports:

Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, is the preferred nominee to be the next ambassador to the Vatican. The White House hopes to announce her nomination before President Donald Trump meets with Pope Francis on May 24 in Rome.

The decision to nominate Gingrich has been made, but the announcement has taken longer than expected pending approval from the Office of Government Ethics, an administration official said. The White House hopes to formally nominate Gingrich as soon as this week.

Gingrich is a devout Catholic, telling the Christian Broadcasting Network in a 2011 interview that she has “always been a very spiritual person.”

From Wikipedia: “Callista testified in 1999 as part of Gingrich’s divorce proceedings that the couple began a six-year affair in 1993 while Newt was married to his second wife, Marianne.”

  • Michael R
  • SFnomad

How does Callista reconcile “devout Catholic” and being the “other woman” for six year? And does she keep slimy Newt on a short leash? Being that she was the second “other woman” that became his wife.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

It helps that she keeps healthy and probably tells him his winkie is huge. The second she coughs is the day his head starts swiveling for a replacement.

    • Stogiebear

Her papist pussy is so magical it was considered to be evangelism.

  • S1AMER

Lemme know if Trump ever appoints anybody to anything without doing his utmost to insult lots of people.

    • clay

Where’d the fun in that be? What’s the point of being president if he can’t say “Fuck You” to the American people?

  • another_steve

It’s all very confusing at this point.

Will the Pope grab her pussy?

    • fuzzybits

I doubt it’ll sing like a choir of angels.

      • Johnny Wyeknot

I thought that came from Barney Frank on the House floor?

        • 2patricius2

First, you’d have to unplug her from her charging station.

          • Cattleya1

Mayhap we should send a DVD of ‘The Stepford Wives’ along to Francis.

      • janey

he has three because he has low standards, very low standards and so do they.

      • perversatile
      • That_Looks_Delicious

Think about this: Gingrich, Giuliani, Trump and Kim Davis have had 13 marriages between the 4 of them.

    • Rob NYNY

In the eyes of the Catholic Church, he has never committed adultery (assuming no adultery since he married Callista). His first two marriages were annulled, which means they never existed. Therefore, he may have engaged in fornication or concubinage. But as an unmarried man, a man who was never married before he married Callista, he could not, by definition, commit adultery.

      • thatotherjean

That is, weirdly enough, true. But I can’t imagine that the Pope will be all that happy that Madam Ambassador was sleeping with Newt for six years before she married him, whether or not he regards the woman Newt was cheating on as his wife.

        • Gay Fordham Prep Grad

I am sure she is not Frank’s first choice, either. But when it comes to things like this, the Vatican is a very adult place. Nothing will be said and every courtesy will be extended.

          • Statistics Palin

The Vatican has rejected gay ambassadors and made a stink about it. The Vatican is a very shady place.

      • lymis

        Nah, but nice try.

They’d still consider it adultery. Anything after the annulment would be fornication. Even if they didn’t consider it adultery, it’s not like they’d approve of it.

They’ve actually done that several times in the past.

      • Jack

        Well, that’s a relief.

    • another_steve

Not sure what that would mean for my man and me.

I’m married to a very devout Catholic who works tirelessly for LGBT justice within his religion/church.

War with the Vatican could adversely affect my ability to have a nice cocktail hour with him.

      c.f.
Julius II (Giuliano della Rovere, b. 1443–d. 1513, pope 1503–1513) is best known as the “warrior pope”
who used warfare to accomplish his ends of gaining control of the Papal
States after the alienation of sections to Cesare Borgia, the
incursions and confiscation of the Venetians, and the rebellion of local

  • 2patricius2

Well, isn’t that special. I guess he wants to take the spotlight off his pussy-grabbing, philandering, adulterous ways before he enters the Vatican…..Of course, that doesn’t mean the Vatican will accept her.

  • yes b’y
  • olandp

But Newt wasn’t a Catholic when he married his first two wives and they started their affair. He became a Catholic after they married so the first two don’t count. Newt also proudly told his second wife that “Callista doesn’t care what I do.” So he has permission to fool around whenever he find a a woman willing to do him.

    • JWC

none of it matters he is a Republican Rules and religious law is for the “little people”

    • TampaDink

Newton is all about traditional marriages & their traditions. One of his traditions is changing religion whenever he enters into another sacred marriage. So far, he has been a devout Lutheran, a staunch Southern Batshit & is currently claiming catholicsm.

      • Ted.OR

Well, if he still has thoughts of being POTUS, he’ll probably have to go for some non-denominational super-evangelical cult, I mean, sect. Maybe one of those mega-churches in the South or Midwest.

        • TampaDink

He certainly has to rule out marrying into & converting to Islam, Hindi, Buddhism, etc.

          • Ted.OR

As we well know, those aren’t religions. And even if they were, America is a Christian nation. I know because I heard it on “The 700 Club”. When the settlers from England landed in the 1600’s, they declared this land PERMANENTLY in the Name Of God Almighty. /s /s /s

However, Pat Robertson failed to mention that the settlers did not have the authority to do so. Or that this wasn’t even a country at the time. Or that there were already native people here who probably had a more valid claim to the land. Or that there had already been other explorers who may have had different claims.

          • TampaDink

Pat should know better, he was there!
As far as mentioning those other stories, forgive me, I always get make believe stories mixed up. ;-p

          • Ted.OR

True, Pat was there, but he was just as dumb then as he is now. It does seem like, however, that he has come to realize that 45 is not the great savior that Pat originally thought. He hasn’t specifically said that, but he doesn’t use the glowing terms about 45 that he used to.

          • TampaDink

People like Pat don’t judge other people (as long as they are republicans who pretend to make decisions that he likes) so he may never fully dump trump.

          • Ted.OR

True you are, my friend. Today he was fully back in the Trump camp. I spoke too soon. Oh, and btw, I learned from him today that we have great cyber-security people, and with one click of the mouse, we could shut down North Korea!

          • TampaDink

Isn’t it funny….he (and probably countless other half wits) believe that it is that simple, yet N. Korea is still a great concern because their hero president business man doesn’t have anyone on his team who can show him where to point the mouse?

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

I think it would be better to send them both as ambassadors to the moon on permanent assignment.

I don’t care if a racing horse’s head get into his bed (I’d rather not see a horse implicated in it) but there has to be some springtime-blooming species, say a deer tick, that can find its way into his bed and feed on his vital life juices ’til he shows (more) symptoms of lyme. Then of course one would want him to get treatment in time. But if he has it then he’d have a slight chance of understanding that we need funding to fight this yearly (and in some places, year-round) threat to the health and sanity of all good, red-blooded americanses.

A gift card to In-‘N’-Out is a pretty darn good gift, TampaDink! I wouldn’t mind getting that for Mothers’ Day (although I’m neither a mother, a woman, or a day)

          • TampaDink

I’m sure that if he ever gave Marla anything for Mother’s Day it was just more grief. He is on the record as having tried to persuade her to terminate the pregnancy…and he wouldn’t marry her while she was pregnant and until she’d quickly dropped “the baby weight”.

I do not think Barron Trump is a “retard,” which is an offensive term. There have been claimed he is autistic without a single bit of proof, so the “poor little Barron” theme offends me since there is no evidence to back it up.

Not pick up on social cues and may lack inborn social skills, such as being able to read others’ body language, start or maintain a conversation, and take turns talking.
          Dislike any changes in routines.
          Appear to lack empathy.
Be unable to recognize subtle differences in speech tone, pitch, and accent that alter the meaning of others’ speech. So your child may not understand a joke or may take a sarcastic comment literally. And his or her speech may be flat and hard to understand because it lacks tone, pitch, and accent.
Have a formal style of speaking that is advanced for his or her age. For example, the child may use the word “beckon” instead of “call” or the word “return” instead of “come back.”
Talk a lot, usually about a favorite subject. One-sided conversations are common. Internal thoughts are often verbalized.
Avoid eye contact or stare at others.
Have unusual facial expressions or postures.
Be preoccupied with only one or few interests, which he or she may be very knowledgeable about. Many children with Asperger’s syndrome are overly interested in parts of a whole or in unusual activities, such as designing houses, drawing highly detailed scenes, or studying astronomy. They may show an unusual interest in certain topics such as snakes, names of stars, or dinosaurs.

… and in other news, Anne of Cleves was named Britain’s ambassador to the Vatican. The Palace said “She was only divorced; it’s not as if Henry VIII himself had named himself to be ambassador.”

    • Hank

Actually, I believe, that Henry VIII had the marriage Annulled as it was never consummated! He apparently found her so unattractive, that even at his obese stage, could not go through with “it”!!

      • coram nobis

Had to do with Thomas Cromwell selling Henry on the marriage by commissioning Holbein to do her portrait. Made her look like Helen of Troy, so it was a big disappointment when she arrived. Henry didn’t have his wife beheaded, so it was an amicable divorce; he beheaded Cromwell instead. Should’ve beheaded Holbein.

        • Hank

I agree with you on everything about Cromwell and Holbein. However,….
Shortly afterwards, Anne was asked for her consent to an annulment, to which she agreed. Cromwell, the moving force behind the marriage, was attainted for treason. The marriage was annulled on 9 July 1540, on the grounds of non-consummation and her pre-contract to Francis of Lorraine. Henry VIII’s physician stated that after the wedding night, Henry said he was not impotent because he experienced “duas pollutiones nocturnas in somno” (two nocturnal pollutions while in sleep; i.e., two wet dreams).[22][23]

So, we must act quickly. I’m not familiar with the Catholic Church’s official names for stuff, such as the Pope’s official form of address in correspondence, etc. So, check with someone you know who understands these things and make the appropriate corrections to the following draft letter. Then send it to the Pope. If the Church wouldn’t grant Evita and audience with the Pope and also forbid her from being buried in holy ground, certainly they can’t pull a fast one and shower Calista with respect. We must do anything we can to embarrass Trump by preventing her nomination as ambassador be recognized.

Of this, I am certain. Until about 8 years ago, I was also one of those still “practicing cradle catholics”. I’m sure that I only stuck with it as long as I did by finding a weekly mass for the LGBT community at a Franciscan Sisters retreat facility less than 2 miles from home.

Most of those teachers were teaching in Diocesan Elementary or High Schools and the local Bishops usually cause them to be fired. Universities run/owned by Religious Orders are often more liberal and have great independence from the local Bishops.

          • TampaDink

This is true. And from what I recall of a few of them, they were out & their partners were well known to the administration. Everything & everyone has their own story. Any international diplomatic protocol experts in our beloved commentariat?

Can an ambassador’s credentials be refused when they are presented to the head of state of the place they are supposed to preside?

      • andrew

Francis can refuse to meet with her and accept her credentials, as he did a couple of years ago to the man France sent to the Vatican to be their ambassador. He was married to a man. Since she is in a valid Catholic marriage, as bizarre as that may be, he will probably accept her credentials.

        • LesbianTippingHabits

The Vatican would just decline to concur in the appointment.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

      Not re tipping, but:

Everybody, one reason for the delay in the public announcement is the practice of agrement [French for agreement], by which the sending State [the United States of America] privately asks for concurrence by the receiving State [the Holy See] in the appointment.

Professional diplomats, unlike whoever may be running the White House now, know not to say anything to the media. This avoids embarrassment, especially if the receiving State is not inclined to say Yes.

The receiving State must affirmatively say Yes by “granting agrement.”

Thus, all the Vatican has to do is Nothing. As other commenters have noted, the Vatican did the same thing some years ago re a prospective French Ambassador to the Holy See, who was married to a man. The Vatican just waited out the Government of France until the latter withdrew the request.

Perhaps the same thing will happen here.

Francis is a transitional Pope. He probably “gets it” but is unable to “speak it” at this moment in history, for a myriad of complex and subtle reasons.

Newt’s 19-year marriage to Marianne, the mother of his children, was annulled by the Church in 2000. His second marriage was considered a fraud, and merely a regular sin, by the Holy See as he was still considered by them to be married to Marianne. So he only had to pay to have his first official marriage annulled, and confess his many sins, in order to wed Callista in a Catholic ceremony. Detail, details. Newt converted to Catholicism in 2009.

        • TampaDink

Typical republican….never met a loophole that they didn’t like.

        • 2guysnamedjoe

Well, that’s a relief. I’ve been very concerned about the state of Newt’s immortal soul. And Clixie’s, too.

        • Lori

Minor correction. Wife #1 was Jackie. Marianne was wife #2, who he cheated with while Jackie had cancer.

          • Jukesgrrl

I stand corrected. I’m glad someone can keep track of his antics.

          • Lori

Half the time I can’t remember my own phone number (in fairness, it’s not like I call myself), but for some reason the details of Newt’s lying & hypocrisy stick in my brain.

    • Qué pasó?

      What happened to Box Turtle?

      • I can only speak for myself, but a few factors came into play. First, we won same-sex marriage and the right to serve in the military. Yes, there’s more to do, but there’s always more to do. Then there’s the repetition: How many times can you refute the same damn lies? Our opponents have a limited arsenal, and it felt like I was just reaching back to repeat what I’d written before. That’s not motivating.

More important, though, are the strides the community has made in general acceptance. The vicious, lying anti-gay comments came from progressively less important people, people on the fringe, people that I often wondered if anyone was listening to.

Of course, there’s also burnout. I can’t count how many thousand hours I spent over those 5 or 6 years, writing, researching, making graphics, producing videos. At some point, when victories are coming faster than we can register them, it feels okay to take a break.

And finally, there’s perspective, and along with it humility. I’m pretty sure the fight for equality would have proceeded the same way if I’d never been an activist. Not that my time was wasted; my own contribution might not have been vital, but I was one of many people who showed up to fight, and while any one of us might have been dispensable, the overall activist community was not. Realizing this, though, makes it a bit easier to step back and take a breather while the young’uns steip up to that plate.

On the hand, Trump has changed all of this. It feels like time to leap back into action. I don’t know if Box Turtle is the right venue, but something is building.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble. And thanks for asking. That was an important and meaningful phase of my life.

    • Two To Tango

      Gingrich, too, is an adulterer.

      • UrsusArctos

But those didn’t count, they were protestant marriages, so they weren’t real.

    • Jukesgrrl

No, they’re not living in sin (officially). They had Newt’s previous marriages annulled by the Vatican years ago. (All you have to do is come up with an excuse and write a check … more than 60,000 granted each year.) Both Edward M. Kennedy and Joseph Kennedy II had their marriages annulled. Then, confess your adultery as a grievous sin, beg forgiveness from God, and presto-chango, your soul is as pure as a newborn’s. Newt even converted to Catholicism after their marriage in the Church.

Nope. The senate operates on “Unanimous Consent”. If even 1 senator objects they must vote on EVERYTHING. It can slow things to a molasses crawl forcing cloture votes (which have a timetable) on buying paperclips on up. Turtle knows Schumer has his own “nuclear option” with consent and knows being horsey might win him the battle, but will turn EVERYTHING to war. There won’t be enough legislative days to finish killing the middle class.

    • Jukesgrrl

The Zen of Tipping by Jan Beatty from her book Boneshaker

      My friend Lou
used to walk up to strangers
      and tip them—no, really—
      he’d cruise the South Side,
pick out the businessman on his way
      to lunch, the slacker hanging
by the Beehive, the young girl
walking her dog, and he’d go up,
pull out a dollar and say,
      Here’s a tip for you.
      I think you’re doing a really
good job today. Then Lou would
walk away as the tipee stood
      in mystified silence. Sometimes
he would cut it short with,
      Keep up the fine work.
      People thought Lou was weird,
but he wasn’t. He didn’t have much,
      worked as a waiter. I don’t know
why he did it. But I know it wasn’t
      about the magnanimous gesture,
an easy way to feel important,
      it wasn’t interrupting the impenetrable
      edge of the individual—you’d
have to ask Lou—maybe it was
      about being awake, hand-to-hand
      sweetness, a chain of kindnesses,
      or fun—the tenderness
      we forget in each other.

The electoral commission oversees the election and voting is compulsory. You will be fined if you don’t vote.

I love your country but the process is bewildering and voter suppression is a disgrace. Even prisoners can vote (under 3 year sentence) and when released those serving longer can vote.

Callista Gingrich is as big a phony as Newt. She had a six year adulterous affair with the already twice married Newt, while he was still married to his 2nd wife. Callista has said: “I have always been a very spiritual person” and “I start each day with a prayer and pray throughout the day.” Clearly sometimes she found time, between prayers, to have sex with Newt. Callista is the woman Newt was having the affair with while he was leading the charge to impeach Bill Clinton for his affair with Monica. Newt and Callista do belong together. It would be hard to find two so perfectly matched phonies. Next move belongs to Pope Francis. Will he accept her credentials? He didn’t accept the French Ambassadors credentials because he was married to a man, even though he had been highly recommended by the Cardinal in Paris.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

All the Vatican needs to do is Not to say Yes. Silence = Not Yet [if ever].

      • andrew

That’s what they did to Laurent Stefanini, the gay married man France named to be their ambassador to the “Holy See.” He waited months and he was never granted a meeting in which his credentials would be accepted. Eventually France withdrew the nomination and named him ambassador to UNESCO instead. The fact that nation states even have ambassadors to the Vatican is a bizarre hold over from the 19th century when the Papal States was a European Nation and not a few buildings and a big square in the city of Rome.

        • LesbianTippingHabits

And we’ll see what happens with Callista Gingrich.

He wasn’t married in the RCC, so it doesn’t count. He coulda been married 15 times, with the same outcome. He got married once (with this delightful young lady Calista) in the RCC, that’s the only one that “counts.”

      • JT

That’s not the case. Otherwise, an annulment wouldn’t have been required.

        • TampaDink

I think that getting that annulment on a protestant marriage was just his way of dotting his “i”s & crossing his “t”s. Or crossing her eyes & dotting his teas.

        • Rocco

I wasn’t aware he had any annulments, nor did she, which is why they were able to marry in The Church. If you have evidence of their annulment(s), I’d love to hear it. I’ve been through this a couple times with relatives…

          • JT

Your claim that the Catholic church does not recognize non-Catholic marriages is wrong. I’d be happy to see some evidence for that claim.

One aspect of Gingrich’s journey that Rossi will not discuss is
            whether one or both of Gingrich’s previous marriages were annulled;
though Gingrich’s second wife, Marianne Gingrich, told Esquire last
year, “I got a notice that they wanted to nullify my marriage,” it’s not
clear that a second marriage would have been recognized by the church
in the first place under canon law.

“His [current] marriage is valid,’’ Rossi said, “so everything else is okay.”

            https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/newt-gingrich-what-kind-of-catholic-is-he/2011/12/20/gIQA3wRgDP_story.html?utm_term=.6aa81cef0d40

          • Rocco

This will be my last response you. Your premise is that a local diocesan marriage tribunal, which handles all annulments (and those in the US are the most backlogged in the world, as the the US grants more annulments than any other country) in its jurisdiction, moved all the hearings scheduled” back,” just so it could process the annulments of two Protestant/civil marriages?!? That defies reason. Why would a local Catholic marriage tribunal concern itself with annuling Protestant marriages over which it has no jurisdiction? Further, why would it allow said Protestants to leapfrog over Catholic people who have been waiting years for a decision on their annulments? You also provided no proof that either of his previous marriages were annuled. Are you even a Catholic? Have you had experience with a diocesan marriage tribunal? Maybe talk to Father Tony (Joe’s buddy) for an explanation you can accept. Good luck…

          • JT

The Catholic church is secretive about annulments. As indicated by the citation I gave, one of the previous wives was consulted, so the process was initiated. If what you said about non-recognition of non-Catholic marriages was true, such a process would not have been started. Your assumption is that the process is not influenced by the status of the parties in question, a dubious one at best. It’s amusing that you think a “local Catholic marriage tribunal” would not be influenced by the church hierarchy. As for having no jurisdiction over Protestant marriages, the decisions rendered are about what the Catholic church considers to have been a valid marriage and nothing else. See the first citation above from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Nothing says “respect” like sending the wife of a serial adulterer as ambassador to a country whose leadership and founding documents roundly and repeatedly denounce divorce and extramarital affairs (not that it’s mattered over that country’s history, but still…).

    • LesbianTippingHabits

Well, perhaps one reason for the delay is that the Vatican has yet to approve the appointment. The approval of the receiving State is requested privately, in advance of any public announcement, to avoid potential embarrassment.

Of course, if the Trump Administration had any foreign policy professionals, this would not have leaked out until the Vatican had concurred with the proposed appointment.

If the Vatican ever does concur, which is not 100% guaranteed.

After one year, your cat or kitten will have the equivalent age of a fifteen year old person. At two years, the pet will have an equivalent age of twenty four. • Sam_Handwich

there’s a loooooooong history there. Lawrence can’t stand Trump.

i really like him. he’s the fruit and cheese platter after Rachel.

  • First of all, it’s complete bullshit that the US recognizes a church HQ as a country. It’s not a country and never was. What nonsense.

Second, I guess Trump wouldn’t see anything wrong with appointing Gingrich’s whore to this job since he’s been married 3 times himself, but this is just bizarre.

    • andrew

Actually the Papal States was a European Nation, of significant size, on the Italian peninsula, but around 1870 was taken over by the Italian nationalist movement and made part of the new nation of Italy. After that the U.S. didn’t send any more official ambassadors to the Vatican, until Ronald Reagan changed it and the U.S. began again sending ambassadors to the Vatican. IMO, it’s a practice that should cease, but no president is going to change that policy, for fear of losing support of some in the Catholic community.

      • Natty Enquirer

It’s refreshing to read an opinion backed by an appreciation of history. Thank you.

      • coram nobis

This is a good summary, and it’s worth adding that the popes were barricaded inside the Vatican, in their capacity as the Holy See and not a secular power, until established as an independent, and separate (from Italy) city-state by the Lateran Treaty of 1929, between Pope Pius XI and Benito Mussolini, a treaty still in effect. So it’s a separate national entity, albeit one of Mussolini’s creations.

      • Yes, I’m aware of Italian history. We got by without an ambassador to the Vatican for 100 years and we can do so again. Or maybe we should have an ambassador to the LDS headquarters in LSC or the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville? Do those sound absurd? So does the Vatican. The fact that Italy allowed the Vatican to keep pretending to be a country is a bizarre bit of politics, but not one that our country needs to waste money indulging.

Amazingly enough I was at my friend’s parents house for mothers day and his dad who was a huge Trump fan is completely disgusted with Trump and regrets his vote. He said Trump would not get his vote again and that Trump should just shut up because he is just digging himself into a hole. Unfortunately his father is 95 years old and in failing health so he possibly will not get the chance to vote again.

I offer to trade places with him. ……as long as I can live in Vancouver BC that is.

      • Canadian Observer

Essentially, in order to be named to the British House of Lords, this was before he spent time in an American jail. Good riddance to him. (And Harper should burn in hell for ever allowing this felon back into Canada).

        • Karl Dubhe

He is married to a Canadian, still. Can’t remember her name offhand.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Nope. Barbara Amiel is a British born aristocrat who, by marrying Black, gained duel citizenship in 1992. May they forever be damned for their presumptuous arrogance.

If you think that’s something, consider the bitch was married 4 times before she met Black. Talk about digging for gold.

          • Karl Dubhe

I honestly thought she was Canadian. Fuck ’em, get them deported.

I recognize the name, now. She’s that idiot who wrote crap in Macleans, right?

          • Canadian Observer

Barbara Amiel, she was born in the U.K. and maintains British citizenship. On Wiki her occupation is described as “writer, columnist, socialite” – apparently “harridan” is not an occupation.

    • johncAtl

I think back in the Rob Ford days most of the Canadians here on JMG

I can’t remember which reporter discussed it, but when Clinton fired the FBI director for misconduct it too a half a year and a whole lot of maneuvering and investigations to get to the point where he could dismiss him. The way Donald did it made no friends and probably gave Comey more support than he would have had Donald taken his time.

        • Sam_Handwich

yes, and Clinton did so after an internal DoJ investigation which i think started before his inauguration. what happened last week in unprecedented.

    • Karl Dubhe

Lord (ex-convict) Black? He’s a British citizen, who’s afraid to go back to his adopted nation. He renounced Canadian Citizenship so he could buy a seat in the UK’s House of Lords. But for some reason, he’s still living here in Canada.

      He’s a lard ass.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

It’s why we call him his LARDship.

      • Cuberly

        He sure acts like it.

      • Hue-Man

He should never have been allowed back into Canada after his jail time in the U.S. It’s not too late to deport him to his adopted homeland – UK deserves to be inflicted with him.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Black is one of the most reviled men in Canada, that said, if you want to make a comparative with Trump, look no further than Kevin O’Leary. Good thing he realized we’re not polarized like the states and chose to drop out of the Conservative leadership race. Sadly, Canada has it’s Plutocrats, though they do seem to know their place, in the club, on the fairways and out of our Parliament.

On another note, believe it or not, Black’s viper of a wife, Barbara Amiel, is equally repugnant. A snobbish, monied trust fund bitch who sees anyone under the million dollar tax bracket as wastes of space or her lessers. Truly the stuff of sewage.

      https://s27.postimg.org/7ojpj119f/prostitution_whore.gif

    • Natty Enquirer

Meretrix is still in occasional use in English. Otherwise, scortum (skin; hide) or lupa (she-wolf).

      • CharlestonDave

Perhaps we should reserve lupa for Kellyanne Conway? But thank you for your thoughtful research.

    • Phillip in L.A.

“one of the most common (and pejorative) words denoting a prostitute was scortum, a neuter noun that could be used of both males and females.” Craig A. Williams, Roman Homosexuality (Oxford: 2d ed. 2010), at 40. Other common words include meretrix (for a female prostitute), and pueri lenonii (‘pimps’ boys’) for males. Ibid.

      • CharlestonDave

I rather like scortum for Callista.

It has a nice whiff of scrotum and also of escort.

        • Phillip in L.A.

Yeah, I was thinking about it, too. “Scortum” has two harsh-sounding (to English-speakers) consonant clusters–reminiscent of hacking loogies and/or spitting–so it’s perfect for her!

        • Phillip in L.A.

Agree–wrote a reply to you that Disqus apparently lost. There are two harsh-sounding consonant clusters–reminiscent of the sounds made when spitting or hacking loogies–in “scortum”. It’s PERFECT for her!

  • SoCalGal20

Random but I think there are some Harry Styles fans here. He just dropped his first solo album which is getting excellent reviews and it has a definite retro thing going on so it might appeal to people here who otherwise would not be interested. He also did a pop up show last night at The Garage in London. Be warned it’s fan video so with Harry that means lots of fangirls singing along at points. But, you can still hear him and the sound seems decent (I’ve watched part of it).

    https://youtu.be/FKZBnlUYJmE

    • Lazycrockett

I am sorta of a 1D fan, cause like em or not they can sing and make some damn good pop songs. I download this and was actually surprised at how its so old school. I figured the kid would go all pop album for his first outing but am pleasantly surprised. It’s not earth shattering or a masterpiece but its a mature piece of work that should establish him as credible.

      • SoCalGal20

It’s definitely a solid piece of work and an unexpected direction from Harry. I’m really curious to see how he does in Dunkirk, too. I think he’s got a good career ahead of him.

Here’s a cover of “Ultralight Beam” he did at the show last night.

        https://youtu.be/XuXGnIZnQCo

As for 1D, their carpool karaoke was fun.

        https://youtu.be/329xjDM7YaE

        • Lazycrockett

When I started to check out 1D I was surprised and impressed with how much they wrote their own stuff specially in the later albums. It’s really the only reason I gave them a chance, cause honey I don’t care if you have a bee hive needing 15 people in a room to write song doesn’t mean you deserve that crown you are wearing.

Yes that’s shade at Beyonce I’m throwning.

          • SoCalGal20

Yes, that’s one of the good things about them. Not that singers have to write all their songs but it does add something.

    • johncAtl

Not my kind of music, but I appreciate Styles’ LGBT support after one of his One Direction mates made a few anti-LGBT gaffes.

      • SoCalGal20

His solo music isn’t like 1D music.

        • Lazycrockett

Not at all its very 70’s mellow rock.

        • johncAtl

I agree. I like Harry. I just don’t like Liam Payne. Despite his attempts to backtrack his comments I think he isn’t a friend of the LGBT community.

          • SoCalGal20

Understandable. Hopefully Liam will get with the times one of these days. Harry seems like a good guy.

O/T but news out of my state and a reminder that the bigots still continue to wage war on youth, even in blue states.

    • johncAtl

Trump has emboldened bigots…so this crap is going to increase.

    • fuzzybits

      She warned them,eh?

Crystal Bowling Barnacles is just upset that she is an old washed up queen who never won a crown despite many years of trying. But seriously, after reading about her, she does seem to have quite a mean streak in her past. Hope her AL becomes permanent.

  • Stubenville

Callista will be happy to learn that there is a branch of Tiffany a mere six minute drive from the American Embassy (it’s a 13 minute walk, but I doubt she would ever walk to a shop like any peasant. )

    • Adam King

If she God forbid got scuff marks on the soles of her shoes she’d have to have the maid burn them.

Here’s what an undercover ICE raid looks like.

    https://twitter.com/nowthisnews/status/863832046732427264

    • johncAtl

So ICE is stopping those filthy brown Latinos who came here to work (and do jobs Americans don’t want to do). I guess that’s what the Latinos get for crashing planes into buildings on 9/11.

      #fixingthewrongdamnproblem

    • Blake J Butler

When they start paying high prices for produce, and jobs are dying because they can’t get anyone willing to work in the fields, when major losses in the market happen, then they will care.

Just end this and by letting them become legal citizens right here and now, its not like most of them do not contribute, because they obviously do to have a massive impact on our economy. And even in those undocumented workers, several millions of them pay taxes, they pay into the system, taking them away will take money away from services that are provided with tax dollars.

But no, because they will never vote for representatives that hate them and want them banished from this country, and endure deplorable conditions proposed by this administration. Because unlike working white class voters, they are not dumb enough to believe they’re being rained on with water when it’s piss.

      Delaying the inevitable, pathetic.

    • Lazycrockett

The thing bout ICE that scares me is once told, how quickly and violently they have put the heel of their boots on the throats of others.

      • johncAtl

I’ve noticed that too. It’s very scary.

  • Blake J Butler

Happy Mother’s day from the first ladies of trump.

It’s good. And a confused trump caller is caught in the midst of the bitchfest between ex-wives of donald trump, his wife and his first lady.

Dems are getting some high quality candidates for 2018 and it’s apparently starting to concern some Rs.

        • Ninja0980

I don’t get why Democrats aren’t talking about this more and pointing out that the “free ids” aren’t and that the locations to get them at aren’t at easy to get for someone who is poor, has no mode of transport etc.

    • johncAtl

I can’t imagine that the Dems can’t gain lots of seats in 2018 unless the Repubs in Congress realize that Trump is going to destroy the GOP if they don’t stop him.

But I never discount the ability of the Dems to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    • Blake J Butler

If they were so scared and dropped dead from a heart attack, no one would cry, it would be like cleaning house, except everyone benefits from it.

Spent 8 years protesting the black man and his family, obstructing and doing nothing, now they have to actually work and what little they offer is shit.

They don’t want to piss off the white trash base that loved everything he said at his word, but they do not want to lose republican voters that voted third party or voted for hillary instead of trump. Or voted for trump like they were told only to find it was a fatal mistake. And do not want to help him in midterms(big shocker)

Congress is the first step, i do not think we can take back the senate in 2018, maybe 2020 at the least, but i can see the house in play with the grassroots support and momentum going into 2018.

  • SoCalGal20

Nancy Pelosi is doing a town hall on CNN tomorrow night.

    • johncAtl

I love Nancy, and appreciate what she has done for so many years. But I would rather see young Democrats taking our message to the Country. We need more leaders like Julian Castro to attract, and excite, young voters.

      • SoCalGal20

I don’t know if this is a town hall in her district that CNN is just televising or one of those audience things they do.

OT: In case it hasn’t been mentioned, Powers Boothe has died at 68. RIP!

Thank you so much for posting this.
I watched it again, for the first time since it was originally televised.
What a cast! In addition to Powers Boothe, there were Colleen Dewhurst, Madge Sinclair, Ned Beatty, Brenda Vaccaro, LeVar Burton, and James Earl Jones as Father Divine, the original American religious scamster, to name only a few of the many standout performers.

Good to see we’re beating all those damn socialist nations that provide health care to all their citizens.

    • Natty Enquirer

      Yay Pro-Life!

    • Blake J Butler

With low birth rates, and people getting older, and if you throw shitty healthcare into the mix where people die from not being able to afford health care, along with the massive deportation of undocumented immigrants, and this country is in decline population wise.

But hey i understand, we can’t take care of people like decent humans, so we have to do the christian thing by taking care of the insurance companies and their wants.

      Said no sane person ever.

      • Hue-Man

What I find so discouraging is the defeatist attitude in the U.S. – after initially denying there’s a problem! An example: Saskatchewan has had the highest HIV infection rates in recent years in Canada because they have not adopted the aggressive treatment, testing, and surveillance programs applied in provinces like British Columbia. To avoid being at the bottom of the class, Saskatchewan can reproduce those procedures to reduce its HIV infection rates.

Because no one is responsible for health outcomes in the United States, nothing is done except blame other states, insurance companies, and/or doctors/nurses/hospitals. Meanwhile, women needlessly die in childbirth at rates 3 or 4 or 6 times higher than other developed countries.

    • DaddyRay

How horrifically sad that this is so high and yet the GOP want to classify pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and cut maternity care

We’re basically a Third World country where half wants to REMAIN a Third World country.

And you might argue with me on this but I actually think that a lot of people are totes fine with this and think “Eve’s burden” and “the widower can get a new younger heifer with which to pop more kids out.”

Because when they’re told there’s a way to save “da wimmin & childwen” they claim to love so much, they throw a fucking tantrum if it involves single payer or actually giving women bodily autonomy or anything other than thoughts & prayers.

          • Cuberly

Doh! We all have things like that.

I used to have the only video of the burning of Pete Wilson’s offices in SF during a protest, after he vetoed domestic partnerships in CA.

Not that I condoned the arson, but at the time, and if I say so myself, the video was pretty incredible. I wanted to donate it to the SF LGBT archives at the SF Library but the tape was lost in the divorce (long story) then the ex lost it, not that he cared….again long story.

          • johncAtl

Sounds like it’s a shame that it wasn’t the ex that was lost, and that the tape is still around.

          • Cuberly

We’re still friends, but we diverge on so much. It can make for some tense conversations now and again.

          • johncAtl

As long as he didn’t vote for Trump anything else can be forgiven.

          • Cuberly

Well, he didn’t vote trump but if Trump and Ryan’s tax laws are enacted, I’m pretty sure he’d be guiltily pleasured.

OT: speaking of homophobic douchebags—Hungary’s President Viktor Orban

“Teachers and students at an American university in Budapest founded by
investor George Soros are bracing for the worst after the adoption of a
new Hungarian law that could close the institution.

As the international debate rages on, Orban allies are working to
turn Hungarian public opinion against the university. One ally is Echo
TV which recently aired this story.

NELSON: The narrator says CEU deceives its students and issues
degrees not recognized by Hungary, neither of which are true. The Echo
story features footage of American student Dana McKelvey of Richmond,
    Va., and her friends.

DANA MCKELVEY: It was really interesting because they only zoomed
in on women that looked queer or had short hair or on people that were nonwhite.
And from what I understand from a Hungarian friend of mine’s translation, they were just saying, you know, look at these people who are polluting the Hungarian mentality. They do not belong here, and they are bringing these ideas into our space.

    Full story here: http://www.npr.org/2017/05/14/528374301/hungarian-law-could-close-central-european-university-founded-by-george-soros

How can she EVER call herself a “Devout Christian.”

This is an INSULT to the Vatican and devout Christians.

  • Robert Adams

    Bimbos to right of him,
    Bimbos to left of him,
    Bimbos in front of him
    And bimbos far behind;

    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to preen and primp:
For the Trump, ’cause he’s their guy.

    • -M-

How about, “…’cause he’s their pimp.”

  • Okay, this is a good choice for Trump. Let’s look at it from the ROman Catholic Church Magisterium’s POV for a moment:

    a. Newt’s prior marriages were not sacramental marriages, and except for their “civil” significance are not recognized as valid by the RCC; and

    b. Callista’s use of her “allure” to rope in Newt, and make him a convert to the “One True Church” is a feather in her cap, as well – making a convert for Mother Church is a good thing. And her affair? The moment she got Newt in the sack, with the intention of getting married to him, they performed the Catholic sacrament, even though they went through the formal ritual much later.

Remember, this is a Church that has painted itself into a corner on the subject of divorce, so it has gone to insane lengths to amend its Canon Law so that its marriage tribunals have the capacity to retroactively declare nearly any sacramental Catholic marriage to be a nullity (though the Rota in Rome does take a more conservative view, the American bishops have made annulment really easy).

I am sure this Pope, who does great P.R. and talks out of both sides of his mouth (though honestly, I do think he’d like to be nicer, but gets pulled back by the Vatican Apparatus).

Then again, to quote Francis while shrugging, “Who am I to judge?”

  • boobert

A devout catholic who was cheating with a married man ! lol

  • Gianni

Trump has a definite affinity for dictators and married cheaters and their mistresses. Wonder why? Remember, Bill O’Reilly didn’t do anything wrong.

  • Rex

    But,,,the *emails*!

Of course, the current pope is one of the most understanding and forgiving people on the planet, so she’s not at risk of being cast out into the wilderness or stoned to death.

  • BudClark

So the Pope won’t receive a gay man as ambassador from France, but he’ll receive a whore from the U.S. (the Holy Roman Rota notwithstanding. JESUS was VERY clear on the matter).
