REPORT: FBI Director James Comey’s Testimony About Huma Abedin Forwarding Emails Was “Inaccurate”

ProPublica reports:

FBI director James Comey generated national headlines last week with his dramatic testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, explaining his “incredibly painful” decision to go public about the Hillary Clinton emails found on Anthony Weiner’s laptop.

Perhaps Comey’s most surprising revelation was that Huma Abedin — Weiner’s wife and a top Clinton deputy — had made “a regular practice” of forwarding “hundreds and thousands” of Clinton messages to her husband, “some of which contain classified information.” Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss. (Weiner’s laptop was seized after he came under criminal investigation for sex crimes, following a media report about his online relationship with a teenager.)

The problem: Much of what Comey said about this was inaccurate. Now the FBI is trying to figure out what to do about it. FBI officials have privately acknowledged that Comey misstated what Abedin did and what the FBI investigators found. On Monday, the FBI was said to be preparing to correct the record by sending a letter to Congress later this week. But that plan now appears on hold, with the bureau undecided about what to do.

According the above-linked report, the FBI now knows that Abedin only forwarded a “handful” of emails to Weiner’s laptop. Hit the link for much more. Last week Comey testified that it makes him “mildly nauseous” to think that his letter to Congress may have influenced the election.

  • lymis

And if this lying shit gets thrown out of his job, Trump gets to appoint someone even worse.

Long past time for a special investigator and a bipartisan commission.

    • pleasebereasonable1

I can’t think of anyone worse than someone who would purposely disseminate inaccurate information to sway an election.

      • UrsusArctos

        Jeff Sessions?

        • clay

Who, yesterday, was called out for lying to the Senate Intelligence Committee, but it’s okay; he sent a letter.

          • UrsusArctos

He’s a Southern Gentleman. He fired Comey to defend Miz Clinton’s honor.

Good to be a lawyer these days. Can Clinton sue Comey/FBI?

    • Trump for Prison 2017

      Comey’s such a drama queen.

Speaking of, why isn’t St. Sanders talking about ANY of this? Too “democrat-ish” for him?

      • Todd20036

Sanders was a cult of personality. I shut down every time someone tries to claim he would have won

        • Trump for Prison 2017

The comparison bw St. Sanders and the Orange Devil is more apt than I thought.

They’re both “ME ME ME ME ME ” while accusing others of selfishness

          • Ernest Endevor

Both refused to release their tax returns.

        • Do Something Nice

Damn that Jimmy Carter for voting for Sanders.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

do you have a computer app that alerts you every time someone bashes your patron saint?

          • Do Something Nice

He’s not my patron saint. If I had my way, I wouldn’t have had to choose between Clinton and Sanders, two very flawed candidates, but also two candidates that had a lot to offer.

            Nope, I follow Jimmy Carter.

          • Todd20036

Is there a point to that comment?

        • Blake Jordan

Sanders was only “so popular”, because he was ignored by Russia, the GOP,…
Had he one the primary, he would of been destroyed…

      • Ninja0980

Maybe because he doesn’t want to badmouth the FBI looking into his wife (and also his) banking activities.

  • GayOldLady

Comey’s presentation last week made me more than “mildly nauseous”. His melodramatic presentation was disgusting. The Director of the FBI should know the subject matter he’s about to testify on BEFORE he testifies. He’s just another lying, sleazy bastard.

    • David Walker

Yes. The combination of former acting AG Sally Yates and General Clapper was not just a dream team for truth, but they were also the banana republicans’ best “oops” yet as far as calling witnesses. They assumed Comey would be a piece of cake…I wouldn’t rule out that a bunch o’ the ol’ boys got together over drinks and made sure there’d be no bombshells in his hearing.

I kept thinking, what with the mortality rate of anti-Putin or possibly untrustworthy Russians, that Ms. Yates and Gen. Clapper wouldn’t live to testify. I’m getting way too conspiracy-minded, and I don’t even watch Alex Jones to stoke my fears.

  • Michael

to hell in a hand basket

  • bambinoitaliano

If it moves and quack like one, he is another fucking treasonous asshole who sold his soul and the country to the Russians!

    • geoffalnutt

Look at the bags under his eyes. That’s not the “normal stress of the job.” Kompromat, perhaps?

  • John

And right behind the nauseated Comey is the nauseating Mark Halperin (he of the furrowed brow).

    • Gustav2

You know all those papists stick together. /s

  • Michael R

Is this a big deal ?
    Yes , it is .

  • j.martindale

He is more than mildly nauseous. He is overwhelming nauseous. And it makes me nauseated.

    • CPT_Doom

Rec’d for the appropriate use of the terms “nauseous” and “nauseated.”

    • Zollergasse

Glad someone pointed that out finally.

  • Michael R

Poor , Comey , he gave us 4 years of daily presidential nausea and an
unknown number of years of Supreme court nausea . Poor Comey .
Way to take one for the team !

  • Leo

Inaccurate? Excuse me? Saying “thousands” more e-mails is more than ‘inaccurate’. I’d like to think that “inaccuracy” was deliberate.

This prick hopes the “Inside the FBI” tv series will “restore faith” in the agency and he pulls this shit? The damage is permanent.

    • David Walker

If not permanent, the damage will last as long as he’s director, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

  • dcurlee

Comey is just another lying republican

    • thatotherjean

Appointing him in a spirit of love and brotherhood and bipartisanship was definitely one of Obama’s mistakes.

      • Ninja0980

Along with not fighting for the courts.

      • The_Wretched

Yes Obama but also the beltway Democrats.

  • DaddyRay

It is very disturbing watching the US turn into a authoritarian state and the intelligence community become politicized

    • Leo

The intelligence community has always been politicized. The pretense though is gone now in the Trump era that they weren’t and it’s in overdrive – don’t forget the Hill article calling the FBI ‘Trumplandia’.

Watch the Giuliani/New York office angle of the Russian saga because if there’s any justice, indictments will be hitting some of them.

      • Frank McCormick

Reminder: J. Edgar Hoover was the founder of the FBI. The FBI has been politicized from its very beginning.

  • pleasebereasonable1

Bull Shit. That prick knew exactly what he was doing and it made him hard not nauseous.

  • Rex

I’m more than mildly nauseous that this man is the Director of the FBI.

  • Todd20036

    The FBI has been compromised

    • David Walker

And here I thought compromise and any form of it were dead. Silly me.

  • canoebum

He’s mildly nauseous, I’m practically sick to death. Comey is either a vindictive prick or a total nincompoop. I can’t decide which.

    • liondon#iamnotatraitor

      Can’t he be both?

      • Lori

Can be and is. He’s a partisan hack who thinks of himself as the last honest man in DC and it makes him incredibly stupid.

        • Ninja0980

Yup, he is so obsessed with restoring honor to the FBI that he is in fact ruining any last bit of it.

      • canoebum

        Good point.

    • teeveedub

Isn’t it a strange coincidence that, whenever Comey makes an error in judgment, it always seems to favor the GOP and damages the Dems?

  • bobbybear.i.am

Yeah yeah. And I’m not fat I’m just “big boned”. And my cock’s not small it’s just “average”. You LIED!!!

    • David Walker

At least he didn’t lie about “I won’t cum in your mouth,” since he has no feelings and can’t cum.

  • greenmanTN

How can anyone claim this wasn’t a deliberate act, with an intended result? At least in part due to Comey’s actions this country is now on the bobsled to Crazytown.

    • Miji

I think it’s more a two man luge – totally unprotected and forced to cling awkwardly to another half we’d rather not touch while wearing tacky spandex in front of a worldwide audience.

  • Karl Dubhe

His testimony was inaccurate? Is that polite speak for ‘lied under oath’?

I know what would happen if you or I did that…

    • Ross

Martha Stewart went to jail for lying.

      • Tomcat

Martha Stewart is not republican either.

    • clay

“His testimony was inaccurate, so he’ll send a letter.” also describes Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, but he’s the new AG. With a pronoun shift, it describes Betsy DeVos.

  • Ross
    • David Walker

I like it. Succinct and to the point.

  • swimboy

So, the head of the FBI, about to drop a bombshell on one of the candidates on the eve of the election, doesn’t bother to check his facts before he opens his mouth? Not buying it. In my mind, this is absolute proof that his intentions were only to sabotage Hillary.

    • David Walker

Why, it’s almost as if he didn’t know that 45 wasn’t under federal investigation. Yeah. Right. That doesn’t say much for his ability to be a good administrator. For me, Sally Yates is now the measure of a non-partisan administrator, someone who worked for her country, not for one particular party. That’s so old-fashioned, I know, but I still admire her for it. And for destroying Ted Crud with actual facts..

  • SilasMarner

Comey should be fired and barred from EVER holding a government job again.

    • William

And let Trump appoint his replacement?

  • geoffalnutt

“…was inaccurate” = a lie. There, fixed it.

  • Ninja0980

    In other words, he LIED.

  • madknits

He lied then. He’s lying now. He’s not nauseous. He’s just full of shit.

    • William

      Comey isn’t nauseous, he’s nauseating.

  • Superman

Isn’t lying to Congress under oath a crime? How is it that Comey gets a pass to say blatant lies? We will never really know if his comments threw the election. But they sure didn’t help. And now this.

    • David Walker

How? For starters 45 was elected and both houses are republican. How can helping destroy the nation through party loyalty be a crime?

  • Blake Jordan

    Comey should be executed!!!

  • Xuuths

    Lock. Him. Up. For. Perjury.

  • David

    Inaccurate, but effective. Ass.

  • Every judgement call Comey has had to make has coincidentally worked against Hillary Clinton or for Donald Trump. What an amazing coincidence.

  • Max_1

    L Y N C H P I N
    edit:
    C U I – B O N O ?

  • Brian Keith

I’m ‘mildly nauseous’ that he is still in this job. He knows exactly what he did and why he did it: Purposely throwing an election

  • Ernest Endevor

The story never made any sense however one looked at it.

  • Acronym Jim

Let’s not forget that Comey thought that revealing an investigation into whether a candidate may have inadvertently or sloppily shared classified information with another government official via email was more pressing than revealing an investigation into a candidate who may have been colluding with the Russians in order to win the election.

    Because “priorities*”… or something.

*(priorities being party over country in this case)

  • BobSF_94117

Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss.

Huh? Abedin forwarded emails to Weiner’s laptop so Weiner could print them out for Hillary?

    • jmax

Then she would snail-mail the printed emails to Hillary so Hillary could read the email she sent.
      Old people and computers 🙂

    • lymis

It’s a conflation of a number of different stories. Apparently Hillary preferred hardcopy when possible, so she had staffers print a lot of her emails for her. But part of that was the archaic idiocy of the computer system, where only certain devices were cleared for getting emails in the first place, and Hillary’s phone wasn’t allowed in the secure parts of the building.

And Abedin shared the laptop with her husband, and while it’s clear she sent emails to herself on it for dealing with from home, there’s yet to be any indication that any of those contained any classified information.

And, frankly, I’ve never heard anyone say that Weiner lost his security clearance when he stepped down from Congress. There would certainly be a need to know question depending on the specifics, but it’s not like he was never cleared for sensitive information in the first place.

      • BobSF_94117

Thanks for the clarification. Between poor writing and outlandish claims, it all gets so confusing sometimes.

  • William

Strip Comey of all his duties and make him hall monitor.

  • The_Wretched

Gee, the guy who was working for the republicans lied to congress about it in a later hearing. he’s not half as clever as he thinks he is.

  • PeteLI

Obsessing on the emails and demonizing Comey only helps Trump and the Russians.

    • lymis

Hogwash. It’s not a contest where we only hold the worst of the worst to account. We can demonize Trump AND express disgust about Comey.

  • -M-

Comey lied to Congress about them in person, he can make correct the record in person too.

  • Tor

He ought to be puking his guts out.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

    Obama’s worst mistake.

  • grada3784

James Comey – Pontius Pilate, Lady Macbeth and L. Patrick Gray, all rolled up in one.

  • sword

Comey rushed to reveal inaccurate findings about Clinton/Abdein email handling. Now he is hemming and hawing about having to express a correction and apology.
Does anyone believe that Comey wasn’t trying to tilt the election anymore? If so I have a bridge in New York for sale.

  • TexasBoy

What?! The FBI was lying and swung the election?! Who’da thunk it?

  • I think he’s just dumb as a box of rocks.

  • Oshtur

Hillary lost because of tech ignorance. The mail server yes but this was Huma forwarding mail to her own Apple mail account for printing and stupidly having that same IMAP account reflected to the family iPad that Tony used at home while unemployed.

forwarding the emails to nonsecure accounts just because it was easier to print them was stupid in and of it’s self but having that same account available on all of her Apple products was idiotic.
