TRAILER: Sense8 Season Two

Inverse recaps:

The latest trailer for Netflix’s Sense8 has finally done the inevitable and introduced an entirely new cluster of eight sensates, and they won’t be friendly, at least at first. We already knew that the Cluster would be taking the fight to Whispers in Season 2, but now we’re getting more insight into their actual plans. The new season grapples with identity and relationships — as Sense8 always does — but rather than having Will and Riley running from Whispers to protect the rest of their cluster, all eight of them will bring the fight to him, or as Whispers calls it, a “war.”

I binge-watched the first season in one day.

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

“I binge-watched the first season in one day.”

Me too. I have now seen the entire first season three times. I think it is art.

    • Jeff

Me too. How can you possibly *stop* watching?!

    • Cousin Bleh

I’ve watched the pansexual orgy scene about a dozen times.

    • FAEN

      Only three lol?

  • well, i didn’t watch it cause i am using prime but not netflix right now. that trailer looked interesting, but didn’t exactly give me any idea what the show is about.

    • JWC

eight people from around the world all share 08 Aug but not similar birthyear are some how connected on a sensory level When one is in trouble the others sense it an pitch in

    • djcoastermark

Season 1 you must watch. It is very good and easy to get hooked into binge watching it. The “Christmas Special” was a fix, but equally fun way to tide one over until the new season.

    • The_Wretched

It’s worth watching. It gets self indulgent from time to time but it’s from the wachowskis and Babylon5 guy. It’s very pretty and the premise is interesting as it plays out. 8 people semi share a consciousness. In the pod the story follows are a transwoman and a gay man. The group is also men and women so they are all forced to be sort-of-bi. It makes the sex scenes more interesting. They replaced the African male actor after he refused to do scene where the pod gets confused about who is whom for a big sex scene.

The other fun detail is that the characters start at 8 different global locations. That means they flew the actors all over the place, shot every scene for the first season at those locations and then flew to the next place, shot the whole season etc for all locations. It’s very complicated how they represent the shared consciousness feature via having the actors be mentally at each others locations.

  • MBear

*FINALLY* something to watch on Netfux

    • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Sense8 is the only reason I keep my Netflix subscription.

      • MBear

There’s a few reasons we keep ours (OITNB, Marvel stuff, MST3K, etc), but really the fare here in Canada is extremely sparse.

We were quite close to cancelling our subscription in favour of restarting in a few months and then go back and watch what we missed.

        • Westcoast88

At least you have Downton Abbey

    • FAEN

I have the opposite problem-too much to watch.

      • Cousin Bleh

Same. I just binged Dear White People. I’m thinking about starting 13 Reasons Why because so many people are talking about it.

Season 2 of The Last Kingdom starts the same day as Sense8, so those will keep me occupied for a while. Kimmy Schmidt returns in just a few weeks.

        • FAEN

I just finished 13 reasons and I enjoyed it. I’m watching season 1 of Sense 8 for the 6th time now lol? Also part way through ‘loev’ one of the few gay movies to come out of India. Sad though that one of the leads who was barely 30 died about a year after the film was finished.

          • Ben in Oakland

Is it good? I put it in my queue last night.

          • FAEN

            It is!

          • Ben in Oakland

I love Indian men. I still married a white boy, though. I will especially enjoy this one.

          • RidingTheLine

Sense 8 is in my queue on Netflix but I am still on season 1. Too many queued shows, too little time. I am a big fan of all things extrasensory, science fiction or fantasy fiction. Growing up with plenty of harsh realities in my real life, I was not impressed with realism in fiction. Growing up Mormon and Liberal in the 1960s and early 1970s gave me a lot of personal insight into bigotry. Growing up with a brilliant but emotionally fragile mom gave me plenty of insight into people at their best and worst. Nothing in Steinbeck, Golding or Hemingway could match my own real life.

BTW, I live in a town with a strong Asian Indian subculture: two Sikh temples, a Hindu temple and a mosque, and half a dozen Indian restaurants.

          • FAEN

Sorry I thought you meant Sense8 not Loev. I’m part way through that and so far it’s good. My only critique is IMHO there needs to be more affection between the guys.

          • FAEN

LOL-Indian men have certainly come a long way since the 70’s.

          • FAEN
          • Ben in Oakland

Not only do I enjoy him, but I’m pretty sure he’s god!!!!M

          • FAEN

And I think he’s a doctor to boot!

          • Ben in Oakland

I’d play doctor with him. I think I’d like to be a proctologist, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

          • FAEN

            I have an idea lol.

          • Cousin Bleh

I’ll look for Loev. Thanks for the recommendation. We watch a lot of gay movies on Netflix, and most of them are so bad. Recently watched two good ones though: Lazy Eye, which I liked because it was about an adult relationship, and Closet Monster, which is an original take on the teen coming-out story.

          • NIFP

My longtime companion and I are really enjoying “London Spy,” a 5-part BBC series featuring both gays AND espionage. We’ve been doling them out ever since I found it; each episode is about an hour long. Really cool opening credits when you get to them, as well. And you get to look at Edward Holcomb (if that’s where your tastes lie)! And Charlotte Rampling is in it. NO idea if this was a one-off or if there will be another season. Only problem I’ve had with it so far is the speed of manifestation of a couple of diseases that are too central to the story to ruin by saying more.

          • Cousin Bleh

Never heard of that, but it sounds promising! Will look it up.

          • SpiderPIG

I enjoyed it as well! I thought the S&M angle was intriguing…
Really liked “Big Little Lies” also, as I’ve always enjoyed David E. Kelley’s shows.

          • FAEN

No worries. Let me know if you need a few more recommendations-I’m a complete movie whore lol.

I watched Lazy Eye but haven’t seen Closet Monster as yet. Have you seen ‘A single man’ and ‘Stranger by the lake’?

Even if you aren’t into documentaries I highly recommend ‘We were here’. Ok I’ll stop now or I’ll be on here for a good while lol.

          • Cousin Bleh

I’ve of course seen A Single Man, as I adore Christopher Isherwood. I’ll check out that other one.

          • FAEN

I had a feeling you had but I had to make sure. Absolutely one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen.

There was a fabulous documentary on Isherwood also on Netflix. Not sure if it’s still there.

          • MattPS

Stranger by the Lake is fantastic and represents a genre which I feel is under-represented: a gay-themed suspense film. Just make sure your mom isn’t watching it with you. Explicit sex is involved. I mean, really explicit.

OMG, there’s Master of None, Lady Dynamite, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Archer, the new Mystery Science Theater 3000 Episodes…..

      • MBear

No, No, Hell No, Seen ’em all, MST3K (both old & new) at least a dozen times each. 🙂

        • Cuberly

I really liked the new MSt3Ks.

          • Jeffrey

Me too. Love Jonah, I follow him and the gang on twitter. So far The Loves of Hercules is my favorite of this new season.

          • Cuberly

HA! That’s my favorite as well. Followed by Avalanche, Rock Hudson chewing up the scenery.

          • Jeffrey

Haven’t seen Avalanche yet. I’m not watching in order. The key is that the movies have to be bad…but not so bad that they can’t be watched. There’s a weird balance. Roger Corman’s The Undead is probably my all time favorite.

          • Cuberly

Ooooo,, then you gotta see Star Crash. It’s so ambitiously bad.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

In that photo, there’s gold, green, purple confetti: Mardi Gras colors. Do we get to see beads?

    • Duh-David

I think you know what you have to do, to get beads.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

….wait… what….people do that to get beads? Oh!
Can I get them retroactively? I’d have a collection.

        • djcoastermark

No retroactive. Try starting now. You’ll be surprised at how Fast your collection can grow.

    • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

That scene is from the gigantic gay pride celebration in Sao Paulo.

  • another_steve

Looks like a lot of gun play. I don’t spend my leisure time watching that stuff.

The glorification of gun play numbs the soul.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I agree with you. It’s just so… yawn. After a while scenes and plots just… blend.

    • davewolfusa

Where in the heck do you get that idea? Gun play does not have a role of any significance in this amazingly written show.

  • Palmer

The Christmas episode was SO dark, with so much foreshadowing of doom, pain and misery that I’m questioning whether to watch more of the show. Between that and Riley’s baby dying on the ice field I don’t think I need more unrelenting menace from Whipers in my life.

But the occasional glimpse of Brian J. Smith’s ass does make up for a lot of gloom!

  • liondon#iamnotatraitor

    No Idris Elba? Boo!

  • Good. I’ve a feeling I’m going to need an escape soon… News out there seems all horrible.

    • JWC

my thots exactly Ever check out “Orphan Black”?

      • Yes, I’ve seen it. Good show.

        • JWC

Final season 10 June I believe

      • FAEN

SUCH a fantastic show and Tatiana deserves another Emmy.

        • JWC

          5th and Final 10 June

  • SoCalGal20

Yay!!!! I’ve been waiting for it to come back.

  • Ray Taylor

Joe, I like to watch it slow and easy.

  • Cuberly

    OT: Awesome science break.

Whenever I see any of the pics from Cassini portions of the 2001 soundtrack just pop in my head. It’s sorta eerie.

  • Bernie Keefe

  • Gigi

Love this show! Can’t wait to see what they come up with this season.

  • Ben in Oakland

I loved the show. But we watched it a few years ago, and haven’t seen hide nor hair of it since. I probably won’t bother with season two.

    • FAEN

  • Mike in Texas

At last! It’s one of my all time favorites.

  • Lumpy Gaga

As long as we’re amusing ourselves to death….

    * It took several episodes, but the reboot of MST3K finally hits stride with ep. #4: “Avalanche”, starring Rock Hudson and Mia Farrow. Had to stop after 10 minutes 38 seconds. I was LOL too much!!!

    * I am highly skeptical of yet another half-hour of Trump-based comedy, but Comedy Central’s “The President Show” had an awesome debut. The actor/improv guy doing DT actually looks MORE like Donald out in direct sunlight than in specially lit conditions. Smart, funny, witty, and mercifully only on once a week.

    * Prince’s vaults REALLY open!!!

Super-Deluxe re-release of “Purple Rain” (June 23) not only sees some of the most awesome and legendary works loosed from the infamous vault and dropped on the public June 23, it’s 3 CDs of music (original album, remastered under Paisley Park supervision; a CD of 12″ mixes and b-sides and single edits, including the long “Erotic City”; a CD of vault rarities previously only available as crappy sounding bootlegs) plus the 1985 Syracuse concert on DVD — out of print for years — all for $32.98. OMG!

  • worstcultever

I can’t do dark/dystopian/violent anymore – gonna take me a while to even do the new Handmaid.

Serious Q: Why are all these people in these shows trying to stay alive? When the whole world’s gone beyond completely tits-up, what’s the point? Is it some kind of victory to get killed in some fucked-up way six months from now, rather than tomorrow?

Felt the same way about Game of Thrones. Just ended up completely sick of humans.

I know there’s no arguing taste in escapist entertainment – everybody to their own. I’m escaping more into comedy, stuff like Lady Dynamite and standup specials. Also re-bingeing Schitt’s Creek & loving it even more a second time. Now THAT’S sharp writing and pitch-perfect lol acting .. I swear the David character is simply the greatest neurotic ambisexual thing ever done. (Netflix only has two seasons so I had to go to Amazon Prime for S3, which was also worth it.)

Trying to get traction with the new MST3K, but it’s taking time

    Anyway, just some personal $.02

    • Cousin Bleh

I can understand your aversion to dystopian material (we’re basically living a real world version now), but it seems odd regarding Sense8. The show is about how 8 extremely diverse people around the world are able to connect with one another. The Mexican actor Lito comes out to his ulta-conservative society with the support of a transgender woman living in San Francisco. A traditional Indian woman falls in love with a German gangster she’s never actually met. An impoverished African man impacted by AIDS is able to afford medication for his mother thanks to the help of an imprisoned Korean woman.

It is ultimately a metaphor for how technology has connected all of humanity and a strong indictment of Trump, Brexit and other things that try to push us apart. I actually find it to be a really uplifting show.

    • James

There are a few violent scenes in Sense8, but it isn’t remotely dark or dystopian. It’s set in modern times (but with a little bit of paranormal and conspiracy stuff going on), and it’s honestly really heartwarming a lot of the time, especially the Christmas special. This trailer might be giving the wrong impression – the first one for the new series was a lot more uplifting.

Ack! Once AGAIN, I must remind you that LESBIANS ARE PRESENT HERE. }-X Please, at least give us a warning (and I think Joe may have some policies on this as well).

        • DaddyRay

Please don’t show all of the baby birthing footage from Sense8 – I really didn’t expect so see so many shots of babies crowning

          • JCF

Damn, they don’t even show that on “Call The Midwife”—don’t nobody got to see that!

  • Too. Many. Shirts.

  • I LOVE this show! Thank you Wachowskis!!

    Brian J. Smith, Buh Bam!

I just finished watching Eps. 2 (Note: the xmas episode was Eps 1), wow this totally lived up to my expectations, great plot & dialog!
