Obama Endorses France’s Emmanuel Macron [VIDEO]

The Washington Post reports:

Barack Obama is weighing into France’s presidential election, in support of Emmanuel Macron. In a message posted on Macron’s Twitter account, the former U.S. president said he was endorsing the centrist candidate “because of how important this election is.” Macron is facing far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in Sunday’s runoff vote. Polls suggest Macron is well ahead.

Obama said: “I’m not planning to get involved in many elections now that I don’t have to run for office again, but the French election is very important to the future of France and the values that we care so much about.” Obama ended his message with the words “En Marche” (Macron’s political movement) and “Vive La France.”

A message to the WhiteBarf / Putin / Trump trolls : President Obama is admired in Europe. Maybe worry about the health care that Predator Trump is trying to take away from you… President Obama gave healthcare to everyone who hated him. Predator Trump wants to take it away from everyone who loves him. #MacronPresident

    • Obama also gave you the Mass Surveillance, SAI and TPP.

        • Perfect? These are all things he did deliberately. But how can you tell that to the zombified?!

          • Tiger Quinn

Why would you bother? I don’t debate Trumpsters. What would be the point? You should do the same to us “zombies.” Just let us rot in our stupidity. It’s a lost cause. Poor us.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Dont u have some macedonian dick to suck?

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

That troll spends all day cramming red pills/suppositories up its butt. They don’t seem to cure its stupidity however. Sad!!

          • Rex

I prefer the blue pills, they lead to a happy ending.

          • Bj Lincoln

I take enough pills. I would rather smoke.

          • Rex

Do what ya gotta do and have fun doing it.

I blocked that moronic troll a while ago. I’m do right healthy debate but trolls do not count.

        • Boreal

I blocked that troll long ago. Don’t feed it.

        • Acronym Jim

The only one of those things Obama “gave us” was TPP. And U.S. partnership in that was initiated by Bush II (the same person who gave us mass surveillance).

SAI has only ever been a proposal. They were going to go with another proposal in the form of a giant sun-shade, but the Simpsons did it first.

          • False! The systems for Mass Collection of Data didn’t exist under Bush. Mass Surveillance was implemented under Obama. BTW Obama persecuted more whistleblowers than all other Presidents combined. Obama was a closeted fascist.

      • Tiger Quinn

We know. As we keep telling you every single time you do this. We know. We knew then, too. We weren’t all right with it, and we said so. Thanks for stopping by.

        • Acronym Jim

Actually, we know better. Everything he said in his original post was a lie. See my response to BJ Lincoln elsewhere in this thread.

      • RyanInIllinois
      • ZERO! NEXT!!!!!

  • Bj Lincoln

Good for him! France doesn’t need the pain Le Pen will cause.

  • james1200

Considering the mood Europe is in, this might backfire. Remember, as Hillary was going down in the general election, Obama was enjoying his highest approval ratings since his first inauguration, nearly 60% approval and he still couldn’t carry Hillary over the finish line. The US and Europe are in a tantrum-throwing mood right now and I really think that witch Le Pen is going to win narrowly.

    • Tiger Quinn

Europe is not in that mood. Don’t confuse what’s going on in the US with the EU, which is viewing the States with a general air of disgust right now. Le Pen shot herself in the face during her last debate and she’s not as well liked as the American media keeps telling people.

      • james1200

So Brexit was what, a fluke? C’mon…the same anti-immigration, anti-establishment, anti-Eu wave is happening over there.

    • His HolyShit, the Donald

Obama just made pee-sident Tramp in heat wanting to endorse Le Pen but he can’t do so officially ……

      • james1200

He’ll say something nice about her soon. He can’t help himself, plus, he’s good with the dogwhistles for his nazi followers.

        • His HolyShit, the Donald

But Tramp can’t make a video like Obama and you know how he LOOOOVES comparing size with that black man, almost as much as he loves seeing his own face on the monitor

      • BobSF_94117

He can’t? Of course he can. Whether Bannon or Jared wins the fight over whether he will is something we’ll have to wait and see.

        • BlindBill

agreed – he can and he will – the rules have not mattered so far … and to his mind, the Russians endorsed him

    • ChrisMorley

In the last three French Presidential elections the Le Pen candidates standing for National Front were decisively rejected at the second ballot, each time.
The polls indicate we can expect the same again this time.

  • FAEN

    Christ I miss President Obama.

  • This applies to France, United States and so many other countries around the world…so true

    • FAEN

      YES!

    • BobSF_94117

Actually, the societies aren’t broken. The world just happened to go through a huge recession and a certain political branch which shall go unmentioned won the argument over stimulus/austerity and fucked you over.

  • KnownDonorDad

Watch Trump make a semi-coherent endorsement of Le Pen. That would probably help Marchon even more.

    • Cackalaquiano

You and I and everyone here knows he will.

      • KnownDonorDad

I hope the second part is also true.

    • BlindBill

Well – not sure about the coherent part

  • Natty Enquirer

    Ōbama for Macron!

  • GlennF

If I were Emmanuel Macron, I’m not sure I’d want a public endorsement from Obama. Remember, Obama also publicly endorsed the anti-brexit forces in Britain. And look where that got them and us in the U.S. with Trump.

As we’ve seen here in the U.S. for the past eight years, Obama is good for Obama only, not so much for the Democratic party or even for the American people in the long run.

Obama was a very good leader of the executive branch of the U.S. government but a horrible leader of the Democratic party. The Democrats suffered immense losses on the national, state and local levels under Obama’s brand of “when they go low, we go high” afraid to fight and get his hands dirty kind of “leadership”.

Thankfully, unlike Obama, Macron seems to be a no nonsense FIGHTER and can hopefully pick up the leadership mantle of the free world where Obama left off.

    • andrew

Obviously Macron wants Obama’s endorsement. He posted it on his Twitter account.

  • SammySeattle
  • DevineBovine

This is not at all surprising. Macron, like HRC, is the more-of-the-same-Wall-Street-go-where-the-money-is candidate.

Now the starry eyed conformists will accuse me of being a Le Pen supporter, Putin lover, troll, or all three.

    • Garrett Sparks

My boss actually lives in France and she made the same argument. She said, while he is not nearly as bad as LePen, he is certainly no friend of the gays. While he won’t actively promote anti-gay stances, he also won’t promote pro-gay ones either. Guess that’s better than nothing?

      • ChrisMorley

It’s more clear cut that Macron is relatively pro-LGBT, while Le Pen would remove the right to civil marriage equality.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Yes, because with someone who is at least receptive, you can have movement in the right direction. That one salient point was lost on the American people…hopefully, the French won’t be so easily fooled or stupid.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

I wouldn’t say you are a supporter of Putin, Le Pen or a troll, but I would say you’re incredibly naive and shortsighted. I’m constantly amazed at how people who claim to be so political aware forget the one key ingredient in making politics work, that being pragmatism. Instead, now we have rigid ideological puritanism that helps no one but those with the deepest pockets who, knowing how those like yourself can be so easily manipulated & whipped into anger, can push the right buttons and say “see, the anarchists are the real danger, vote far right.” It’s fascism 101 and the regressive left plays their part every time. It’s incredibly disheartening to see it play out again in France as it did in the U.S.

      • DevineBovine

You can keep your pragmatism. I’ll keep my moral compass.

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

Moral absolutes in politics never ends well, just ask the Jews in Germany.

          • DevineBovine

Funny… I believe it’s the casual dismissal of moral absolutes gives rise to bad behavior, including extermination.

  • andrew

Thank you Mr. Obama for using your influence and weighing in to support liberal values around the world.
