Sen. John McCain Downplays Talk That Trump Might Order A Preemptive Strike On North Korea [VIDEO]

The Hill reports:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said early Sunday that he doesn’t think President Trump is planning a preemptive strike against North Korea. “I don’t think so, Jake,” McCain told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I think that we have to consider that option as the very last option. And for a number of reasons and one of the reasons is because there’s artillery on the DMZ that can strike Seoul, a city of 26 million people, and the carnage would be horrendous,” McCain continued.

How can pretend to know what an ignorant

Absolutely. And then we have to talk about Kim Jong Un!

That’s just what we need. Another land war in Asia.

    • madscntst

      Inconceivable!

Also, it’s obvious Trump has never played RISK!

      • Ben in Oakland

I see we have read the same book!

  • JWC

negotiation is the correct way to go but you have 2 hot headed ninexperiebced idiots on the front line

    • Acronym Jim

      “ninexperienced”

A portmanteau of nincompoop and experience.

      I am so stealing that.

      • JWC

fucked up spell check. Its yours

        • Acronym Jim

That’s what an old art teacher of mine called a “happy accident.”

says the man who unleashed Sara Palin on the world

    • JWC

John is another who should consider retirement

  • greenmanTN

The man who brought Sarah Pailin to the world stage isn’t my ideal of credibility. Has McCain ever been right about anything?

    • Todd20036

Nope. He couldn’t even go into war without getting captured.

      • -M-

I won’t mock his being a POW, but I will point out that we probably lost fewer planes as a result of him no longer flying.

  • Acronym Jim

McCain seem to be under the delusion that Trump is capable of reason and logic.

  • JT

John “No Balls” McStain says “we” have to consider? There’s a Nazi lunatic in the Shite House who doesn’t know the meaning of “we”.

    • -M-

Or ‘consider’, which is possibly worse.

  • Uncle Mark

This from the man, who wanted (even sang about) us bombing Iran because they were developing fissionable and potentially weaponized material…but said little about North Korea, which boasted about developing and testing such weapons.

    • Todd20036

And he’s defending someone who chastised him for getting captured in Vietnam

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

Shut up, McCain. Admit you have a boner for the idea asshole. Just go back to your second wife’s mansions and try counting them to see how many you have.

  • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I’m coming for you John. You and Flake are as guilty as Derr Drumpf. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ffd965f05f89355fce374f861f1ff3776ef50cc22a6fb020bd040db7ee9f6f0a.jpg

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I think that’s what everyone else wants to know.

  • You have two leaders named Trump and Jong Un; that do not care about their people…they ONLY care about their perception of “being loved”.

Two damaged men who were not loved as children with FAR too much power in their grasps…now the world has to deal with it.

  • Gerry Fisher

Go ahead…keep “downplaying” and enabling and dancing around obvious truths about the SCPOTUS’ lack of qualifications as he and his minions rip at the fabric of this country and threaten global peace.

  • Natty Enquirer

When you’ve been at war for 67 years, the prospects are never very good.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

OT: I find the idea of Mark Zuckerberg as President rather appalling. (maybe less appalling then Trump but still not into CEOs as President thing at all)

    http://www.salon.com/2017/04/29/mark-zuckerberg-has-supper-with-ohio-family-that-voted-for-trump-adding-to-speculation-about-a-presidential-run/

“Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is on a quest to check off everything on a presidential candidate to-do list. Or maybe the billionaire tech entrepreneur is just fulfilling his new year’s resolution of meeting people in every state by the end of the year.

He toured a Ford factory outside of Detroit this week, and sat down with a group of Muslim students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He also met with people recovering from opioid addiction in Dayton, Ohio.

On Friday, he had dinner with a Democratic family in the Buckeye State, according to a post on Zuckerberg’s personal Facebook page.”

    • not loving that idea either.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

Maybe he saw Donald get away with keeping his empire and still be President and thought “Yeah, I LOVE that.”

    • BearEyes

As Nancy said – “Just say NO”

    • Treant

Ugh, no thank you. Fortunately, he’d still have to pass the Primaries, which I think he’d have some trouble doing.

Then, if he did, I personally am not sure I could force myself to vote for him. Which, as a yellow dog Democrat, is pretty bad.

  • Sam_Handwich

    o/t

    good news…

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is retiring from congress at the end of her term.

Hillary won her district by 20 points.

  • TexasBoy

Oh please, John, you know Trump is mentally unstable. He may wake up one morning and decide to launch because he had a bed dream, or because someone called him a name.

  • Hue-Man

“What’s the point of having all those weapons if you never use them?”

    • David L. Caster

The response should have been that you have weapons so that other powers will not attack you out of fear that you will fight back and destroy them.

  • bambinoitaliano

So the concrete evidence of the shit gibbon committing treason against USA will be revealing soon?

    • Treant

Not if McCain has anything to say about that. Party before country, after all…which you can tell by how he votes.

  • safari

John: This is a guy who had two SCOTUS nominees summoned to the white house because he didn’t know which one to pick until both were on the road.

  • A_Rae

low energy loser that got shot down and taken prisoner by the enemy….

    • Lazycrockett

      at least he went.

      • A_Rae

        #sarcasm

      • Todd20036

That was Trump’s criticism of him, and McCain still sucks up to him

  • JDS
    • Lazycrockett

I’ve always said that in theory Palin was an amazing pick. She would have brought the conservatives into the fold while McCain could have still done his “Maverick” thing that was winning over the middle and Independents. Plus she was a woman. Shame they didn’t vet her enough to realize she was a complete moron.

      • Todd20036

So? She’s a Mensa candidate compared to Trump, and he sort of got elected.

        • Gianni

          Good point.

      • A_Rae

they employed the same vetting as drumpf did on Flynn….

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Seems to be a low priority with the Republicans, vetting.

      • Chucktech

Palin was a last gasp Hail Mary pass. McCain was tanking and he HAD to do SOMEthing.

        • Jerry

I still think that was the most cynical political move I’ve ever seen: McCain and his campaign sought to drive a wedge between the Obama/Clinton primary voters, and having a woman on his ticket–ANY woman–would do the trick. Five minutes of vetting should’ve sent them searching for a different woman.

  • Gustav2

One of the most hawkish members of Congress is trying to tamp down talk of War.

    • David L. Caster

The US can’t afford any more wars. At least for now. The things are way too expensive and people are starting to figure out wars just aren’t at all helpful. They are also politically unpopular.

  • pj

this old man is the only voice they can find?

  • Halou

John McCain talked the tough talk against Trump before, then the president fired a few tomahawk missiles at nowhere and this guy fell into line like a good little boy.

    • David L. Caster

Dropping hot things on brown people and their stuff seems to give Republicans a boner.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

God I hope the military has already swapped the nuclear button for another BRING COKE button.

    • McSwagg

… and we’re not talking “soda” here.

  • MBear

Hey old man – theres some kids on your lawn. Get out of government and go yell at them

  • This old quisling again.

  • AdamTh

McCain is looking at this as if there was an intelligent, rational leader in the White House – three things Donnie is not. McCain is a fool.

    • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

I’ve heard that he has dementia. Many are saying this. The best people!

      • Jukesgrrl

He? Trump or McCain? I’d say both.

  • infmom

Next up, P45 orders a pre-emptive strike on John McCain.

  • Tiger Quinn

McCain, you haven’t been right about Trump once, nor have you stood up to him. You’ve got nothing to offer us anymore.

    • Gianni

So true. It’s party loyalty. Trump is theirs; what choice does McCain really have?

      • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

In W’s days, he managed to be a thorn in his side. He is now a partisan hack, who speaks reason once in a while, but votes 100% for party over country.

  • JWC

    go back to sleep John

  • Raising_Rlyeh

26 million people is nothing to trump’s ego. He’d sacrifice them all for popularity.
