Franklin Graham Attacks Democrats For Proposed Ex-Gay Torture Ban: Homosexuality Is An Abomination

“Now Democrats are proposing a bill to ban conversion therapy in the United States, saying that LGBTQ people were born perfect. Actually, they are very misled. We were all born imperfect, with sinful natures β€” yet loved by God who offers us forgiveness and wholeness through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

“Homosexuality is defined by God as sin, an abomination to Him. There’s one ‘conversion therapy’ that works for all sin, and that is asking Jesus Christ to come into our hearts. He can transform and heal our lives, making us new. The Bible tells us, ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come’ (2 Cor. 5:17).” – Franklin Graham, posting to his Facebook page.

See my story about the proposed national ban on ex-gay torture here.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Franklin Graham calls for Christians to boycott Disney for “pushing the gay agenda into the minds of children.” Franklin Graham denounces the Oscar-winning gay-themed movie Moonlight for sucking young people into “Hollywood’s sinful dark plan.” Franklin Graham declares that “LGBT sins” carry a death sentence. Franklin Graham calls on football fans to deluge the NFL with complaints because a gay couple was fleetingly shown in a kiss-cam ad. Frank Graham asks Christians to pray to Jesus that Trump legalizes anti-LGBT discrimination nationwide. Franklin Graham claims his followers prayed Trump into office by begging forgiveness for America’s sinning. Franklin Graham declares that George Michael and Carrie Fisher are burning in hell if they didn’t accept Jesus before dying. Franklin Graham calls for a boycott of the NBA’s advertisers after the league pulled their all-star game from Charlotte.

Actually, my own father tried that stunt with me. “Todd, I just wish you’d marry someone and have kids… even if it means you have sex with men on the side.”

Trump is blaming his failures on the Constitution, calls Erdogan in

I really don’t see the connection between Abraham and something from the Leviticus code. They were separated by hundreds of years.

      • JT

        I hope there was a /s there.

        • Mike_in_the_Tundra

Not really. One of the classes I took in college was comparative religions. I found it fascinating. The descendants of Abraham formed three of the major religions, but Abraham was not really connected to the forming of any religion. Although, I have to admit one of the things about Abraham was his discussions with God.

          • JT

Genesis has numerous passages about Abraham. It’s part of their book. That’s the connection.

          • BlindBill

the key is “their book” … this man who maintains wealth by selling religion does not comprehend that in the USA his idea of religious dogma is NOT universal … and fake treatment that has proven to be harmful should not be a cash cow to the likes of “Mr Crazy eyes”

          • Adam King

Abraham didn’t have descendants–because he wasn’t real– only people who believed in a mythical patriarch figure.

          • Mike_in_the_Tundra

Now that is something with which I can agree, but it is a good story.

      • Adam King

Abraham never existed. He’s a mythical figure.

        • Yes and no. There is mitochondrial Eve. Real and mythical at once.

          • Adam King

Mythical Eve is mythical. Mitochondrial “Eve” is named after mythical Eve. Neither has anything to do with Abraham, who’s male and mythical.

          • Male, and mythical and, just like mitochondrial Eve(s 9 of them), he may be the Adam of us all.

      • I hope they gave him three jolts. There’s three of ’em in there, ya know.

They keep talking about what Gawd wants as if it’s supposed to apply and be enshrined in law for the entire country. Not all of us are members of your church or have ANY interest in being adherents to your religion. And since the country was founded upon the principles of religious freedoms, why the hell would we change our laws to the whims of any one religion? Why don’t they get this simple idea, and keep blathering on about what Gawd wants?

    • Reality.Bites

Graham doesn’t have a church. Being pastor of a church demands dealing with REAL people not scamming strangers for money.

Does that mean Moses’ commandments are out, too? Really, I find these attempts to save the appearances quite absurd.

      • Elsewhere1010

Yes. According to the gospels (all written after his death, in some cases a looooong time after) Jesus brought a whole new ballgame. As fulfillment of the law (the Old Testament) and as a sacrifice to God, he wiped out the old and replaced everything with his own teachings. Which, of course, is way too dangerous and subversive to actually be practiced.

      • Paula Key

The lawyer asked this question to Jesus in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Which one is the greatest commandment? Jesus told him that all the Commandments can be reduced to three: Love God, Love Neighbour, Love Self. If any of the Ten Commandments are broken, they fall into one of these three categories.

    • Bad Tom

You must also have separate sets of dishes.

      • Ever have a kosher cheeseburger? Just put a piece of parchment paper on top of the burger patty before putting the slice of cheese on it. As long as none of the cheese comes in contact with the beef, it’s still kosher. Then when you eat it, first remove the parchment paper and cheese and set it aside on a dairy dish. Then eat the burger, thoroughly rinse out your mouth, and wait four hours before eating the cheese. Delicious!! And completely biblical.

        • Bad Tom

The four hours is so your digestive system remains kosher?

          • Yes. It’s not that long, considering that as I kid I had to wait 12 hours after my last meal before eating Jesus.

          • Bad Tom

          • McSwagg

Fasting before receiving communion is in the RCC dogma, as is abstaining from sexual intercourse for married couples. Otherwise, you were considered impure and ineligible to take communion. It’s probably in Orthodox dogma also. It all ties back to the belief in transubstantiation, the belief that the bread and wine magically become the actual body and blood of Jesus and not just a symbol.

          • perversatile
          • McSwagg

          • Ah, those pre-Vatican 2 days in Latin. Yes, we attended mass often.

My husband is an ex-priest. He was in the seminary when the change-over from Latin to English took place. Previously at supper during grand silence they ate while a lector read from the Lives of the Saints in Latin. But once it was switched to English, both the faculty and seminarians got to listen to how ridiculous some of that pious nonsense was. And if trying not to snicker during grand silence wasn’t hard enough, one night the lector screwed up one of the words. He was reading about the life of a saint who supposedly reached into a burning brazier and plucked out a hot coal without getting burned. Only he misread it thus: “And she did reach forth and pluck a hot coal from her blazing brassiere.” As a result even the stuffy faculty was choking and spitting soup.

      • Reality.Bites

My aunt had little patience with people who were kinda, sorta, kosher instead of completely non-kosher as my family was. So to people who’d say “We keep kosher at home, but we eat out in non-kosher restaurants” she’d reply, “Your dishes will go to heaven.”

    • Paula Key

Renowned psychologists would disagree with you. Since after all the injustices in this country were committed in the name of christianity, genocide of the Natives, enslavement of Africans brought here to work on plantations for lazy white owners, a patriarchal society where women were treated like property and denied opportunities on the basis of their lack of a penis.

Abomination, justification in your little bible, all been done before, and this time it is no different, just another target used by the willfully ignorant to treat people like shit because they don’t look and act like they came off a assembly line, cookie cutter inside and out. Exactly the same in every form. Ridicule and demonize the different.

He is a dinosaur, a throwback to a time in America where it was perfectly normal to be racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. The world is passing them by with our world being more prevalent and inclusive towards people, and acknowledging that injustices persist in this country. A time when certain people knew their “place” in this country if they weren’t a white, straight, christian, male.

They are lost in a world they aren’t recognizing as theirs, as fellow dinosaurs die off, along with their stone age beliefs.

Actually, Franklin Graham is an abomination before the Lord, and it has to do with removing Christ from Christianity. Unless your church practices feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and sheltering the homeless, turning the other cheek (and we won’t even get into humility and compassion) all you got is a religion, which is a poor fucking substitute.

Not to mention, Franklin Graham is a hateful old fool, like much of the rest of his family.

Whether or not homosexuality ‘is an abomination’* is a completely separate issue from the fact that so called “reparative therapy” is nothing but dangerous harmful quackery and minors need to be protected from abuse by frauds taking advantage of their parents’ fears and ignorance.

*according to your interpretation of your religion’s dogma.

Notice that he never tries to make pork illegal or tattoos or any of the things his base indulges in.

  • You know, this Jesus coming into your heart stuff can’t be true. First of all, anybody coming into your heart would kill you. And secondly, Jesus would have to be over 2,000 years old by now, and he couldn’t possibly still have that much flexibility left. Although he did float up into the clouds, so maybe he got deep-frozen in space. But still. After thawing out from something like that, who in their right mind would be thinking about going into someone’s chest?

    • jefe5084

it is probably twisted stolen imagery from the Maya or Aztecs. Who knows. Christianity seems to be a lazy religion that just adopts stuff from everyone else. Not original at all. No deep thinkers here. I wish Joseph Campbell was still around to explain this stuff to me. But, alas he left in the 80’s.

      • Natty Enquirer

Way back before the Mesoamericans to Egypt and the cult of Osiris. The god who conquers death and offers immortality to his followers is an ancient narrative.

        • Paula Key

Thanks Ritorna and Natty and Jefe5084 – This is something that the vast majority of Christians ignore or are ignorant of the fact.

      • Yeah. Jesus is the Judeo-Roman version of Mithras, who was the Hindu-Persian version of Horus, who was the Egyptian god who, to his credit, was an original myth. But we stuck with Jesus because merry Christmas is easier to pronounce without lisping than merry Mithrasmas or merry Horusmas.

    • Paula Key

      The spirit of Jesus?

      • Why? Don’t tell me he died again!?

        • northern_neighbour

  • Gerry Fisher

Abomination? No. For more info, see Science.

  • JWC

I mainitain, and facts bear it out, the Bible , per se, was writthen over a 400+ year endeavour. It was wtitten by a myriad of scholars,, story tellers, and entertainers. Written word, if it exsisted at all, more than likely symbols and drawings or word of mouth. As communities were scattered and small it would take many days to travell from one to the other. Eventually new dialects and or languages were encountered requiring a translation of these symbols and words, often the original meaning lost in translation. Now they want you to believe this is the Word of GAWD What if,for example the word “CELEBRATE” was mistranslated as “CELEBATE”

    • Steve Teeter

Most infamous mistranslation: Isaiah 7:14 “Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

This is supposed to foretell the birth of Jesus, though read in context it doesn’t. But the word translated as “virgin” is wrong. It just means “young woman;” there is another word in Hebrew for “virgin.”

But from this one word we get the whole cult of the Virgin Mary, obsession with sexual purity, priestly celibacy, and in general two thousand fucking years of sexual neurosis infecting all of western civilization.

All because hundreds of years ago some fuckup making a translation didn’t know Hebrew as well as he should have.

      • JWC

Thats why the Holly Bibble is open to free in expression

        • Paula Key

If Franklin read the Bible, he would know that Jesus at the age of 12 years (Bar Mitzvah) was arguing with the priests in the Temple. This was his right. Unfortunately, everyone is sinful in the eyes of Franklin – should they interpret the Bible in other ways.

Odd how he ignores science and demands that non-science based opinion is a relevant scientific consideration.

Like I said, he just bitches and moans about the horrid liberals and the evil scientists hell bent on their own special interests. It was pathetic.

  • Gianni

I would like these holier-than-thou hate mongers to be asked what would they do if they were able to completely wipe out all the gay people and stop any more from entering their world, how would they make such good livings off the fools who hang on their every suggestion? Gay people are the best money-makers they have. Who would take our place for their constant condemnation and blame for the ills of the world and still keep them living so high off the hog? Who would threaten the holy and self-righteous lives of their loyal supporters who keep sending them money so God will protect their world from our brand of evil? Good thing the Christian mouthpieces, like Franklin, know that it will never happen and we will always be there to fuel their livelihood.

    • northern_neighbour

Lily Allen expressed it beautifully in her disarmingly appropriate anthem to the haters. …

And yeah, ain’t it so true that these pastors DO mostly concentrate on fleecing their sheep … but achieve it by stomping all over minority communities and the LGBT tribe is their huge weapon to convince the hapless sheep that they are morally superior to others. Always got a find a sacrifice to throw under the bus, no?

“Won’t someone Puhleeze find me someone to …. hate! ” with apologies to Queen’s beautiful song which features the opposite emotion.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

I’ll be frank with you; I don’t understand the hatred over gay or trans people. Their book of mythology mentions divorce much more often, yet no one is screaming to take away the rights of divorced people.

I’m a straight woman and I never thought twice when friends came out to me. I loved them before and that didn’t prevent me from continuing to love them. Maybe it’s because religion has never played a large role in my life except to make it clear to me that I didn’t want to be religious.

It has to be about the money. It’s the only thing that makes sense.

the ONLY part of the Bi-bull that calls homosexuality an “abomination” (and that’s an extremely iffy translation of the original) is ALSO the one that says that you are an abomination if you cut your hair, touch a pig skin, wear glasses to read scripture, eat shellfish, mix two types of cloth, etc…

And guess how many times any text attributed to Jesus himself deals with homosexuality? None.

So don’t conflate the old testament/Torah with Jesus’ teachings.

Not that I believe this to be true but so what if homosexuality is a sin? This is not a theocracy and the government’s job is not to cure people of their sin

With every sin there’s an obvious “wrong” to it to which we do not have to point to the Bible to explain why it’s a sin.

Homosexuality does not fall into that category.

Obedience to the Way is indeed of great use if it is freely given, but of no use if it is compelled. – Herrymon Maurer

STOP YOUR GODDAM LYING!! No democrat (or anyone else) ever said that conversion therapy should be banned because gay babies are “perfect.”

They’ve said it should be banned because it doesn’t work and can actually harm the individual upon whom it is inflicted. No amount of jesus or praying or wishing REALLYREALLY hard will change anyone’s sexual orientation. No matter how much you hate it, no matter how distasteful you find it, you cannot change it. You can only succeed in making the victim of your twisted deviant theology hate himself.

Christians have so little faith in their religion that they resort to lying without hesitation. Sorry your belief system is so flawed, unconvincing, easily refuted and dwindling in acceptance, but your lies aren’t helping your case. It just proves that it spawns hypocrites as well.

Another biblically ignorant evangelical minister and his “abomination” labels. There are many “abominable” things in Leviticus (11:12; 11:13; 11:20; 11:41;11:42) and Deuteronomy 17:1 that are obviously to do with RITUAL PURITY and keeping themselves separate from the practices of the nations the surround them (Deuteronomy 18:9). This was to do with the Israelites being a “holy” nation, consecrated to God. (Exodus 19:6). And if he wants to bring up 1 Corinthians 6:9, the original Greek text does NOT state “homosexuals” as these idiots want us to believe. Firstly, because the modern concept of homosexuality (as an orientation involving both emotions and physical expressions) was unknown to the people of that time and secondly, because all they knew was the heterosexual – active/passive role they believed same sex behavior also entailed but “perverted”. Hence, Greek terms like “malakos” (literally “soft”) and “arsenokoitai” (literally “male penetrator”) were used. For more, I recommend “What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality” by Daniel Helminiak.
