Ted Cruz Backs Breakup Of Ninth Circuit Court To “Free States Of Corrosive Left Wing Influence” [AUDIO]

The Hill reports:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says that breaking up the 9th U.S Circuit Court of Appeals is “certainly a possibility.” “The 9th Circuit is the largest federal court of appeals,” he said Thursday on “The Jack Riccardi Show.”

“I think that’s a topic I can easily see the [Senate] Judiciary Committee taking up, and we’ll have to see whether we have to votes to do that or not.”

“California has a ton of very liberal, left-wing judges that they put on the 9th Circuit. I think a lot of the other Western states would love to be freed from that corrosive left-wing influence.”

UNRELATED: Cruz’s “El Chapo Act” would allow the seizure of the infamous drug kingpin’s assets to help fund Trump’s border wall.

  • Paula

By corrosive, left wing influence he is referring to reason, protection for minorities, and justice. Damn, just damn!

    • Mikey

of course! since right-wing influences are never “corrosive”.

  • Tiger Quinn

Oh, well if Ted Cruz wants a thing let’s all just hand it over.

  • crewman

Because stealing a Supreme Court Justice and a Presidency wasn’t enough.

  • TampaDink

I really hope he gets an infected paper cut as a result of wiping his ass with the U.S. Constitution.

An infected anus, oh wait, that’s what he actually is.

      • TampaDink

Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Live by the infected anal paper cut, die by the infected anal paper cut.

  • Lars Littlefield

I support the life-time incarceration of Ted Cruz for insurrection against the US government and being a general asshole.

Maybe he can bunk with Drumph at gitmo before we seal the doors and leave it behind. He did get a good taste of his cock before the campaign was over.

  • coram nobis

Anything for ol’ Ted to get his name back out there, piggybacking on il Arancino’s noisemaking. Ted might have had enough legal training to realize that there still will be district courts in all the states in the 9th Circuit, and there still will be a circuit sitting in California.

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.

  • Oscarlating Wildely
    • Todd20036

      THAT. IS. SO. WRONG….

  • ETownCanuck

“Cruz’s “El Chapo Act” would allow the seizure of the infamous drug kingpin’s assets to help fund Trump’s border wall.”
The idiot does realize that El Chapo was famous for his tunnel and that tunnels go UNDER walls no?

  • coram nobis

Let us not forget Ted’s performance at the RNC last year, where he serenaded Donald Trump.

  • Sam_Handwich

i don’t imagine the rightwing host asked Cruz how much it will cost to establish and operate a brand new circuit court. and i don’t supposed he could answer that question anyway.

  • BlindBill

8 of the 18 Senior Circuit Judges in the 9th were appointed by Republican presidents ….

      • ted-

Thank you for this one. I feel exactly just that!

    • Joe in PA

Thanks, I was just going to look that up. But rather telling is Cruz’s comment: California has a ton of very liberal, left-wing judges that they put on the 9th Circuit… Is he saying that California appointed the judges?

      • Palmer

      • FAEN

Jeebus I thought he went to Harvard.

        • thatotherjean

Oh, he knows. But the Republican base doesn’t.

      • Hank

Details, Details, Details…. He is just playing to “HIS” fan base, to try to seem better, than he really is. Besides, of what value are TRUE facts, when you have an alternate reality!!! /s

  • Steverino

Projection, of course, because he no doubt supports a Supreme Court with a corrosive right-wing influence.

  • Todd20036

Sorry Teddy. you don’t get to do that. THe president doesn’t get to do that.

Only Congress can allow that. And I just don’t see that happening, especially since you cannot even seem to get Trump’s pet projects passed.

  • greenmanTN

Ted Cruz vs a Mexican drug lord? It’s kind of hard to pick a side here.

    • Paula

I think Teddy needs to go down to Mexico and confront these drug dealers face to face. I would pay to see that. I am sure they are reasonable people.

      • greenmanTN

Cruz has always wanted a high profile. What could be higher than your head on top of a pike?,

        • Paula

The cartels prefer putting them hanging from bridges and overhead road signs. Pikes would be great, too.

          • greenmanTN

Road signs? Alright, If I were choosing, his head would be on a “Slow Children At Play” sign, though I’m not picky.

          • Paula

How can you tell which ones are the slow children? Anyone that votes for Cruz is probably a little slow.

          • greenmanTN

One can only assume. No kidding, we had one of those signs on my street, but it took my friend’s older sister to say “Hmm, ‘ Slow Chldren At Play.’ I guess that means you.”

Same sister. Their family took me to the movies once, and I “dressed up” a bit. Out of nowhere, Pam (the sister) asked “So how how far did you have to chase him?”

“How far did you have to chase him”

            Chase who?

“The PIMP you stold that shirt from!”

  • D. Gray

Because Washington State, Oregon, California, and Hawaii need to be freed from…. Oh, wait

  • ArchiLaw

Well he can talk about it, or he can introduce a bill.

  • Todd20036

Hey Ted, the Russians don’t have anything on you… do they?

    • William

The video is far too disgusting for Putin to watch.

  • Uncle Mark

Sounds like Raphael is doing some Cheeto-sucking in the desperate hope for a little power. It’s so pathetic really; Drumpf will never trust him with anything of importance. What did Cruz’s help/support of Drumpf get him, except more humiliation. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/655512b62af9b29d49f106e64ea2374cbdcad4c4bffc8ade8f33d4fa8c3ed750.png https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/059207480ac9aed217500b80cb3f5349fabfc67fad3272a7f6ad77bc5cd00e97.jpg

      El Cheapo.

    • Clive Johnson

  • Sam_Handwich

seems the most logical way to split up the 9th is to leave CA, NV, AZ and HI, and then make ID,MT, WA, OR and AK the new 12th

but i don’t really see how ideology would be changed that much, or at all.

this is just more pointless GOP whining

    • the important point is that it takes Work! real werk on the part of people who write laws, to enact a major change in the current court system. i’m a liberal and i know this, bc i have advocated for a change in some of the ‘bad’ courts in operation, where all the sitting judges aren’t just republicans, but nutbag xtians.

we should all be very Afraid when any federal level court is reorganized for political purposes by the current administration. that way lies… many bad things. the Founders were flawed people in a lot of ways, but they “got” this one. independent courts are really, really important in a democracy. /my dad was an appointed state level judge, as was my cousin (scotsom), so i am biased in this regard and i admit that.

    • safari

They have to be against something. It’s their only mode of operation.

    • D. Gray

No, ideologically, HI, WA, OR, and CA would stay together; AZ, NV, ID, MT, and AK would be more in tune, an NV is on the fence…

  • Rebecca Gardner

    Absolute insanity!

  • coram nobis

And that was Frontline’s profile of Ted Cruz. Next on most PBS stations: “Night of the Chihuahua”.

  • bkmn
  • Breaking up the 9th would do nothing…and it sickens me every single goddamned time a Republican impugns our Constitutional system of government and the checks-and-balances that were built into it to prevent lawless authoritarians from doing whatever the hell they want.

    • Ninja0980

Sad to say but with all the judicial vacancies they have to play with, they are going to put this into action.

    • Paul David

But…today’s conservatives are lawless authoritarians who want to do whatever it they want….

      That DEFINES modern conservatism.

    • Lantor

Do not get me wrong. Donald Trump is an absolute embarrassment to our country. But, Ted Cruz was the republican I was most afraid of. Thank god he has the likability of a slug (sorry slugs).

  • DaddyRay

How dare these justices follow the law

  • HZ81

I thought he was a lawyer? He must know there’s no legal possibility of that happening.

    • TJ

It’s possible to make changes to district courts of the sort he’s talking about. What they’d really have to do to get to their desired result, though, is impeach all the liberal judges. Just messing around with the form of the districts doesn’t remove the judges, it just reassigns them. The same judges making the same rulings, but from a different district, isn’t what they are aiming for.

  • Robincho

Haven’t heard from Snuz/Luz Cruz in a while. Does this mean we’ll get to hear the opinion of Gnarly Fiorina, his brilliant political co-strategist, sometime soon?…

  • Dan Patterson

Absolutely the ONLY good thing about the election of Donald Trump is that he is NOT Ted Cruz. Cruz is an abominable excuse for a human being. F*ck him.

    • Robincho

I’d fuck him, but my one unalterable rule is that I never copulate outside of my species…

      • Xuuths

        That’s very Leviticus of you…

        • Robincho

Do onto another as you would deuteronomy…

          • Treant

I prolly fucked Onomy, so I’m good. What’s he look like, again?

          • Robincho

As I recall, he rather resembles a crustacean, and is fond of dressing in red…

          • Treant

So kind of like Santa. Yep, fucked him.

          • Robincho

Then all this I’m hearing about you being a good boy must be true…

          • Treant

            BAHAHAHA. Love that!

“Corrosive Left Wing Influence”. All we have left is the court system to save us from these vile FUCKWADS. Ted Cruz, PLEASE DROP DEAD.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

I support breaking up the GOP to free America from the corrosive batshitcrazy stupid influence.

Unfortunately, there are a great number of Americans who are batshitcrazy stupid, remember, they handed him the presidency from gerrymandered districts. They will never let go of their batshitcrazy stupidity.

  • Derrick Johns

Will somebody please pull that butt plug out of Cruz’s azz. As much as I hate Trump–Cruz is a close second. Hell, I don’t hate Little Marco as much as I hate Trump and Cruz. Never mind…I’m getting delirious now

    • William

I hate Mitch more than I hate Cruz. Only highly sensitive scientific instruments can note the difference.

      • Derrick Johns

You mean McConnell, right? Yeah, agree.

  • Joe in PA

I’m surprised he didn’t use the dog whistle “San Francisco Values”. Always a crowd pleaser. Sigh.

Left-wing influence is a blight? What about right-wing INFESTATIONS, the kind that treat constitutional protections as appropriate for only SOME people, JACKASS?!

It’s RIGHT-WING influence we have to worry about in this benighted country, always HAVE had to, and CERTAINLY do NOW!!

Careful–you weren’t BORN in this country, and you’ve NEVER presented any ironclad PROOF your mother was an American citizen.

ICE could decide to deport YOU.

You cause FAR more harm to this country–to its GENUINE democracy–than the VAST majority of undocumented immigrants.

What WE as a PEOPLE must decide is HOW we will UNDO the goddamned KANGAROO COURTS you FASCISTS have in mind for your new BANANA REPUBLIC.

For no fascist STOOGES, in effect GUTTING the Constitution, permitting you to commit ANY crime you like, while they strip MILLIONS of their civil RIGHTS, can or SHOULD be long TOLERATED in a truly FREE society!!

NOTHING, in ANY circumstances, can EVER justify or legitimize FASCISM in what is SUPPOSED to be a DEMOCRACY!!

I’d never heard of anyone gerrymandering the court system.

How low will these rethuglicans stoop to remain in power?

    • Miji

Just when you think you’re in the basement, they’re digging another hole.

      • billbear1961

They’ve NEVER stopped getting WORSE, because they discovered, at least until recently, that they will meet with LITTLE determined RESISTANCE!!

    • billbear1961

As low as we LET them!!

WE enable them, with our side’s APATHY, with the congressional Democrats’ SPINELESSNESS, with their AND the corporate media’s REFUSAL (pretending, as they do, that standing up for the TRUTH now qualifies as a BIASED act, when it is the EXACT opposite!!) to EXPOSE–24/7–a grossly, DANGEROUSLY unqualified, pathological LIAR, CROOK and THIEF for what he so obviously IS!!

They’ll CLING to power to BLEED this country DRY until they’re pried LOOSE and FLUNG back into the GUTTER they crawled OUT OF!!

  • Cuberly

Well, the GOP doesn’t have any workable policy. They don’t have a desire to work for the betterment of the country, they won’t work with dems. All they have is a laundry list of unworkable promises that appeal to a white extremist minorities’ worst instincts. Cruz knows that, he depends on that, and he trots out his autocratic bs, playing the far right for the rubes they are.

    Another day ending in Y.

We need the 9th circuit court as it is to fight the malignant cancer that is the Republican Party.

  • j.martindale

How about fixing the corrosive influence of the right wing by making the House truly representative by eliminating gerrymandering. Fuck, no! They just want all the power. No justice!

  • Halou

Racist theocracy keeps on getting shot down by the courts. What to do?

They could start respecting the law for a change… Or, not? No. Disband the judiciary!

  • Dave, from Canada

Wouldn’t that result in two liberal circuits?

    I don’t think they’re thinking about things.

    • Halou

      Two half-liberal half-circuits.
The Republicans will say that since each of the new circuits are only half filled there is a dire need to appoint justices to fill them, and guess what caliber of judge they will put forward.

Since Mitch McConnell has recently gone nuclear over the SCOTUS the Republicans do not need bipartisan cooperation. The 9th Circuit Courts A and B will both be crippled to the point of no longer working with their liberal halves countered by fascistic fillers.

      • Dave, from Canada

There are lots of places to fill, how much time is it going to take to fill each one? Then re-calculate the time estimate given the management skills displayed by the Trump team.

I’ll bet there are a good number of procedural motions the D’s could make to slow the process down even more. If they have spines.

  • Carl

I wish these guys would drop the pretense and openly come out against democracy already. Put it on the table.

  • William

How exactly does the legislative (or executive) branch get to screw with the judicial branch of government?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg should have a truckload of manure dumped in Ted’s office.

    • Talisman

Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution, which gives Congress power to create “inferior Courts”.

And Article II, Section 2, which gives the President power to nominate judges and other officers of the government, with the advice and consent of the senate.

      • William

Thanks, it’s been more than a few years since Civics class with Mrs. Johnson.

  • JWC

if for no otherreason the 9th circuit stay to keep these asshole in check Hitler controlled the press shut down the libera lparts sounds familiar

  • Kelly Lape

Of course Herr Cruz is for anarchy.

  • LovesIrony

oh go shut down the government

  • netxtown

Teddy – If you were really worth a shit at anything, I’m sure donnie would have appointed you to something. But, he couldn’t narrow it down cuz you hate everything. As it is, you’re too big an asshole even for trumpy.

    • It’s not just that Cruz hates America — everyone in the Senate hates him.

  • Wow, talk about greedy. The GOP isn’t satisfied with gerrymandering voting districts but is going to do the same with the judicial branch.

    • kareemachan

Gerrymander every damned thing they can think of.

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Do they think ramming their ideology down our throats will work any better than when they say we do it to them?
Just cause you “rule” verdicts in your favor will not equate to us west coasters suddenly turning nazi

  • Chrissy

Um Ted, if you want, the 9th district can just succeed from the USA and you can deal with losing the 6th largest economy.

  • Lee Grupsmith-Pedersen

Don’t these fools understand that a government needs both wings? Otherwise it just flies in circles, never getting anywhere.

    • Talisman

Well, both wings (exec & legislative) -AND- the tail feathers (SCOTUS) for steering.

  • Talisman

    Would it really work?

Anyway it’s sliced, there would still be a circuit containing California and all it’s “liberal” judges, and business would go on as usual.

Unless, that is, they decide to gerrymander CA into several different Circuits. Is there any precedence for that?.

  • coram nobis

It won’t matter what the 9th Circuit says if Donald’s legal beagles keep making stupid arguments at all levels. They managed to irk the Chief Justice on the latest one, about whether citizenship is revocable. It’s the kind of pleading that wouldn’t fly in 1L.

Chief Justice John Roberts asked Parker if, “some time ago, outside the statute of limitations, I drove 60 miles an hour in a 55-mile-an-hour zone,” had not been caught and lied many years later after being asked about it, “you can knock on my door and say, ‘Guess what, you’re not an American citizen after all?’”

When Parker responded that this was the case, Roberts couldn’t contain his disbelief. “Oh come on!” he replied.

  • Ninja0980

    This is nothing new.
The 9th Circuit has long been the target of conservative ire even though it hasn’t been as liberal as it once was for years now.
But it’s still not a right wing hell hole, therefore it’s bad.

  • kareemachan

Hey, TEDDY, you’re losing!! Get over it!!! Talk to Faux Noise!!!

    Gawd, he’s an ugly sumbitch.

  • Jack

It wouldn’t be the first time a new circuit was created. The 9th is larger and hears more cases than any other circuit, currently.

“California has a ton of very liberal, left-wing judges that they put on the 9th Circuit.”

I should contact him for the relevant data. I don’t feel like researching the background of all 29 judges. But there’s no rule that a judge has to have lived in the jurisdiction she’ll be serving.

  • Chip Lenno

Um. Excuse me Mr. Cruz, but California didn’t put anyone on the 9th Circuit. It’s a Federal Court and I would assume you would know better being an attorney and all. But hey, spilt the 9th. That just means there will be one more “liberal” circuit. Did any of these people pass 4th grade Civics?

  • Dot Beech

It would be better to split up Texas and assign all its parts to the various states sharing borders with it. By eliminating Texas, we would eliminate the Senators from Texas, freeing the states from the corrosive influence of one Ted Cruz.
