Trump Melts Down Over Sanctuary Cities Ruling

The Independent reports:

Donald Trump has lashed out on Twitter after a judge blocked his executive order withholding funds from sanctuary cities if they failed to comply with his immigration demands. A federal judge in San Francisco made the ruling on Tuesday after San Francisco and Santa Clara County asked the courts to intervene, arguing that more than $1 billion was at stake for each of them. In his ruling US District Judge William Orrick III said it was clear the Trump administration planned to use the order to block funding for more than just law enforcement, as federal lawyers had argued.

Trump’s claim about the Ninth Circuit Court’s “terrible record” of being overturned is complete crap. But he didn’t even name the right court:

President Donald Trump renewed his attacks against the nation’s judiciary on Wednesday, incorrectly blaming the 9th circuit court of appeals for a federal judge’s ruling that blocked his administration’s move to deny federal funding to so-called “sanctuary cities.”

“First the Ninth Circuit rules against the ban & now it hits again on sanctuary cities-both ridiculous rulings. See you in the Supreme Court!” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Judge William Orrick, who handed down Wednesday’s injunction, is a U.S. district court judge based in San Francisco and does not sit on the 9th circuit, although that is the next court that would hear the case should the Trump administration appeal the decision.
