Matt Baume’s Weekly LGBT News Debrief [VIDEO]

Clip recap:

Alabama’s anti-gay Chief Justice Roy Moore is lashing out against his colleagues on the Alabama Supreme Court, who this week told him, essentially, “get out and stay out.” A lawmaker says he wants to expand opportunities for adoption, but his solution is to prevent gay couples from adopting. We’ll cover the latest from Chechnya, including new measures from US officials that don’t go nearby far enough. All that and more on Weekly Debrief, a roundup of top LGBT stories and how they affect you.

If it makes Roy Moore unhappy, its O.K. With me!

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Moore is less. (pardon the architecture pun)

O/T: Congress doing their job or just more pointless theater?

The House Oversight Committee followed up on President Trump’s supposed plan to get around his Emolument Clause violations, requesting nformation about the Trump organization’s plans to donate profits of foreign government payments to the U.S. Treasury.

    • billbear1961

      probably the latter

    • The_Wretched

Trump’s lied about every ‘charitable giving’ until someone evidence and forced it to happen.

The fundies will blame the gays.

That looks like fun (not). Nothing like being stuck on a BART train under the Bay. Sweaty.

I wonder what bad news was about to come out for Trump.

        • Chucktech

And what the fuck is Trump gonna do about this terrorist cyber attack on HIS WATCH??

          • TampaDink

Blame the former administration & the congressional minority party, of course. Then…off to his “summer white house”, his NJ golf resort.

        • The_Wretched

And was it related to Chaffetz?

two hours later, no power shortage in NYC on the UWS. Power’s been on all day. It was reported on the radio MTA was having power shortage, something fairly common.

    • billbear1961

Yes, a friend near Seattle wrote a few hours ago to say power was out in NY, L.A. and, worst of all, SF.

I remember it was predicted that, within 100 days of the election, there would be major cyber attacks on the U.S.

      • coram nobis

SF outage was something to do with a substation fire at Larkin & Eddy.

I did notice, even checking news from Europe, that hackers had triggered every siren in the Dallas area at once. That can be scary in April.

It was a real concern as severe weather was forecast for the next day. They had to really scramble to get the system back to normal.

The fight to get bigots off th Alabama Supreme Court isn’t over with yet.
Moore’s fellow theocrat Tom Parker is facing a SPLC lawsuit and judicial inquiry of his own for basically spewing the same garbage Moore did about ignoring SCOTUS.
If nothing else, his refusal to recuse himself during the marriage equality hearings is more egregious then most of Moore’s antics since he co-founded the Alabama Policy Institute, the same hate group that brought lawsuits to stop marriages in Alabama pre-SCOTUS ruling.

I suspect that, in spite of having lots of time on his hands, that Roy Moore has probably spent very little time or effort trying to help his son deal with his issues.

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Maybe Hucksterbee and Palin can give him some parenting advice.

        “Go kill a dog”?

      • customartist

Why not? They give it to everyone else!

    • Stogiebear

Perhaps we should send the poor waif some Thoughts and Prayers™. That’d probably be more good done for the little shit than expecting his parents to rear him properly.

couldnt finish it….given the US right now it all felt like a blueprint to me.

    • Nychta

Thanks for the link. When I think about the march toward fascism in the U.S. and abroad, what springs to mind is the phrase “slow motion holocaust.” This isn’t a matter of forcing millions of people into camps, it’s a matter of attacking and eliminating them in situ. As such, it can be accomplished mostly under the radar with very little infrastructure investment. I’m glad people are speaking up and reporting it, and I’m glad that Matt referenced a couple ways to take action.

  • billbear1961

Wait: Moore is OFF the court but STILL holds the title of chief justice?

    What?!

    • Sam_Handwich

i believe the Judicial Inquiry Commission needed a unanimous vote to boot him off completely, but i think there was one no vote. so instead, they “suspended” him for the rest of his term (without pay)

      • billbear1961

        Oh, for Christ’s sake!

        Thank you, Sam.

    OFF-TOPIC, with Joe’s kind permission …

    Dear Friends,

    Luke
is home. They should NOT have discharged him so soon, but that’s Drive-By-American-Medicine these days. They were going to send him on the BUS (!), but I told him to
overdraw the account and take a taxi. It’s a good thing he did. There’s
no deficit per se, but he’s exhausted, probably from the super-high blood pressure.

    So
… we’re still basically where we were … he’s home, but he can’t do
anything, and I won’t ask him to, so we still need to pay for some help
    to come in temporarily.

If you can help, my GoFundMe account is

    https://www.gofundme.com/dg6rp8

If you click on that, it should take you directly to my account.

    THANKS!

    Happy Dominica in Albis!

How exactly might the Pennsylvania court ruling help common law married couples with Taxation specifically, as the IRS only allows amended returns up to three years in arrears? Surely I am missing something? Help please? Thanks.

BTW, we did file and receive three years of amended refunds, and it was quite a hunk.
