Joe Goddard – Home [VIDEO]

Out today is Electric Lines, the new album by 2 Bears and Hot Chip member Joe Goddard, which gives me an excuse to post last month’s single, which serves as an old school disco homage to legendary Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan.

Sampled in the single is the 1978 Paradise Garage staple, Brainstorm’s On Our Way Home, and as you’ll see Levan himself makes an appearance in the clip in cartoon form. Electric Lines is now streaming on Spotify and is available to download on iTunes and Amazon.

Successful disco today is a distillation of the best of 70s disco and of modern tastes.

The world is a better place if I never attempt to dance. I’ve tried it several times and didn’t think I was so bad, but other people around me were calling 911 and yelling things like “I think he just swallowed his tongue!” into their phones.

Drama queens. It wasn’t THAT bad! 馃槈

    • djcoastermark

Dance how you want and dance what is you. There is no wrong way to have fun if you just let yourself go and get lost in the moment. These are true words to live by. Who cares what others may say?

      • greenmanTN

True story. I was in the National Art Honor Society and we took a trip to Washington DC to see the Smithsonian Institute, the National Gallery, etc. one of the girls I really liked could not have been more obviously lesbian if she was munching a beaver and pumping iron.

But we’re dancing together at a party on a Potomac tour boat and I decide to “bust some moves.” Oh sweet Jesus. Hips flying everywhere! I imagine she still wakes up in a cold sweat after dreaming about that, because god knows I do!

My skin still crawls a bit if I even think of it.

(Actually it went from appallingly awful to hilarious many years ago. If you can’t laugh at yourself who else is going to?)

        • djcoastermark

As a dj from back ago. I can attest that the most fun nights and packed dance floors all started with a few timid dancers. It only takes one or two. May not have been the one you’re with, but oh the fantasies of everyone ( don’t deny it pretty ones lol) led to crazy nites. And it was all , One Night In Heaven. ok, sorry for the tangent, but ya, those were the days, weren’t they?

          • greenmanTN

Same trip. As I recall there is a park right across from the White House and that’s where the bus let us off. There were three gay men standing nearby (my gaydar worked just fine) but I’m in pink/salmon colored Oxford cloth Polo shirt with a short sleeved collar showing underneath and one of them says, rather loudly, “Well, check out Miss Thing over here! Do you think she knows what she is?”

It embarrassed the hell out of me. Please, if you see a young man who you think might be gay be kind, they actually have enough shit to deal with without you adding to it.

This is a song you might really hate but for whatever reason it connects with me. Like it or don’t.

I know it’s un-cool to like The Blue Man Group these days, but I saw them in the early 90s in a small venue and I loved it. Disclaimer: they are very percussion heavy and for whatever reason high pitches literally hurt my ears, so they were perfect for me.

I don’t even remember how old I was, but one of my mother’s magazines had a section on “disco dance steps” complete with little diagrams of feet telling you where to step. So she drew them on the kitchen floor using chalk.

As I recall she was dressed in a terrycloth night dress and I was wearing footie pajamas.

It was supposed to be disco dancing but I’m pretty sure if looked more like the Bertha Butt Boogie!

I was in my late 30s before I realized I realized the lyrics weren’t “Wallenballs are crumbling” (I didn’t know what Wallenballs were but I just went with it) but “While empires are crunbling.”

I actually pulled off some pretty good dancing in Amsterdam once. I was in my 20s shaking my money-maker like nobody’s business, but I didn’t take advantage of it. That’s really the only time I remember actually dancing and pulling it off without looking like a total spaz.

That’s my perfect vacation night, wondering into a club to see Zap Mama, who I had never heard of before, then later watching the street performers.

I actually pretended to be deaf once in France. I could kind of get the gist of what they were saying, but any time I tried to speak French they were really pretty rude. I was in my early 20s. So I went into a store, pointed at my ear and lips and shook my head, indicating that I couldn’t hear or speak. So I communicated with the salesman with gestures.

(I know, I know, shut up.)

Everything is going along swimmingly, then my partner comes up and starts talking to me and I’m looking at him like “I am supposed to be deaf and mute here!” but of course he’s not catching on. So he’s talking to me and wondering why I won’t speak and the salesman is looking at me, deeply suspicious.

So yeah, I was deaf/mute in France for about 15 minutes.

          • That reminds me of the time my BFF and I were having hair of the dog beers at Oktoberfest in Munich. It was early evening and I was NOT going to remove my sunglasses until my eyes/head/liver stopped screaming at me. The folks across the table from us assumed that we couldn’t speak or understand German so began making comments about said sunglasses wearing – which pissed me off to no end – so I groped around on the table feeling for my pack of cigarettes and when they realized I was blind boy did they feel stupid! Then when I ordered yet another round of delicious beer in my very passable Bavarian dialect they also realized that I had understood every snide comment they had made which I guess was their cue to make a hasty exit.

Back in the 1970s to 2000s, when I danced and before bad knees, I danced and took up a good chunk of the dance floor. When no one else was out there. Many gay men would dance on space the size of a postage stamp. Not me. I had fun. I was also a good dancer. Yet sometimes on purpose. I acted spastic for a bit, so they could laugh at me. I didn’t care. The odd thing was, later they copied me. Ha. I had the last laugh at them.

the House is almost irrelevant in this discussion. even if they had passed that piece of crap bill, the GOP opposition in the senate was fierce … and i think it’s impossible to imagine a compromise that would satisfy both senate republicans and the fractured House caucus

the only viable path forward on national HC policy is to tweak the ACA so it works better.

Benadryl can help a lot, but there are much better options. Cyclobenzaprine has been a huge boon to me, but you have to be careful mixing it with other meds due to tricyclic effects. Best muscular relaxant (far superior to benzos) I can get prescription. If it’s muscular, you might want to look into Fiji or Hawaiian Kava.

I will be passed the fuck out soon.
20 shots of vodka, 60 mg Ambien, 500 mg tramadol, and 10 mg Xanax. I will perhaps back in service on Sunday if I survive. And yet I still feel strangely awake.

          • Treant

Atypical chronic migraine. Basically, I’ve had a headache for 35 years with maybe 10 days off in that time period. On the 0-10 scale, I can get it to drop to a 1.5 but again…not that great for me. Untreated, a 2-4 is the normal range. Regardless, I get occasional spikes to a 7 or 8, but those are pretty rare.

It’s almost always centered on the right side of my head from just below the eye to the top of my head…but it does move around and does show up on the left.

So far, we’re trying some relatively non-invasive stuff.

Imitrex for the spikes; I had one and took one…it didn’t do crap except make me incredibly spacey and dizzy, so that’s not going to be repeated.

            Magnesium, 400 mg
Folic acid, 2 mg, or 2,000 mcg. Not a misprint.
            B6 100 mg
            B12 500 mcg

My major problem is an atrial arrhythmia that occasionally decides to turn into a fibrillation. So anything I take has to a) not do that, and b) not interact with the meds that keep me from doing that.

Sessions still has zero U.S. Attorneys, most of the senior positions are still vacant in the State Department, there is STILL today, Apr. 21, an acting Secretary of Agriculture left over from Obama. Altogether Trump has about 500 positions he’s left unfilled. It’s crazy how Trump just vacates positions with no replacment.

And the ones he has filled are proving disastrously incompetent, but hey, they’re loyal to his orangeness.

          http://www.publicradiofan.com

Set your time zone in the upper left corner.
Then search “Advanced Options” under “Schedule Grid”.
Next to “What Programs?”, select “Ambient/Contemplative”.

You will get a real time schedule grid of all public radio stations playing the selected type of music. You can click on the station call letters to listen to that station online regardless of where it is. Hearts of Space is played by many stations mostly on the weekends. Another good program is Stars End that broadcasts out of Philadelphia (I think) late Saturday night — early Sunday morning. Enjoy!

Maddow’s pretty good tonight, in case it’s about to air where you live. It’s a fun episode.

    • I saw it earlier. The dangling thread in the tapestry of Trump corruption could have huge potential, in terms of bringing him and his entire criminal business empire down. I mean, if all you have to do to deliver an anonymous bribe to Donald — whether citizen or foreign national — is form an LLC and have it overpay for a luxury property or apartment owned by him. Well, it don’t get more blatant than that…save possibly his inauguration slush fund, which Rachel covered yesterday. 10s of millions donated, and now unaccounted for.

      • SoCalGal20

Nothing is gonna change. The GOP will support this vile corrupt piece of shit who is funneling millions of dollars into his pockets as long as he signs what the GOP wants. The Dems would have to retake the house and the senate before his prosecution can begin.

        • Ordinarily — and in my more pessimistic moods — I would agree with you.

Problem is, he’s not really signing much of anything and Pence (or Ryan) would be just as reliable. Moreover, every day Donald’s still in office is another day the GOP can’t get anything of substance done.

It may not feel like it, but events are accelerating. This includes:
          – The erosion of Donald’s support, as even his own followers are beginning to realize he used them and is now discarding them and their needs (healthcare, jobs, deportations of their ‘good’ immigrant friends, getting US into wars, making US a laughingstock).

          – Increasing disapproval ratings, which are demonstrably already making non-competitive safe-Red GOP seats suddenly vulnerable. In the GA-6 ‘jungle primary’, the GOP candidates who did worst were the Trump loyalists.

          – The decline of Donald’s cognition and mental capacity. On top of the obviously extreme NPD, his difficulties reading, thinking on his feet, speaking and remembering are all noticeably degraded.

          – His continued usefulness to Russia, which is increasingly problematic because anything that even looks like the lifting of sanctions (i.e., the Exxon waiver) draws immediate intense scrutiny.

          – Reports from the FBI that they have found signs that the Russians did try to infiltrate the Trump campaign via Trump’s own Russia-connected advisers.

          – Impatience and ill-will increasing among the moneyed classes. They can make money when there’s a certain level of general chaos, but it difficult if not impossible once uncertainty reaches a certain extreme level. For example, all over the globe financial transfers — big ones, like in the billions — were held up this past month because the banks were worried Donald would do something stupid with President Xi, affecting the then upcoming currency re-evaluation reset. Luckily for the markets, Donald folded, but the plutocrats don’t forget.

The Republicans in Congress will move when one thing becomes true: When Donald becomes a liability to their continued careers, and when the cost of keeping him exceeds that of dumping his pimpled ass. I do believe that day will come and I further believe it will be before the 2018 mid-terms.

          • SoCalGal20

            I hope you’re right!

I’m also hoping that they dislike at least some of the Cabinet picks & Javanka.

          • I have no doubt of it. The moneyed interests are also annoyed there are so many appointed offices empty and staff cuts, because they need access to those bureaucrats & agency heads.

Donald thinks the gov’t runs primarily by threats, aggression, and dominance. He has no fucking clue (1) that’s also a shitty business strategy and (2) gov’t usually works through the establishment of routines and by the trading of favors. Donald’s philosophy of “everything is a transaction,” coupled with a rejection of keeping his word on anything, embracing cheating and betrayal whenever it suits him, is incompatible with governance on any level, whether routine or trading favors.

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

I remember Bloomberg saying that scathing speech about how one’s word should be your bond and how nobody he knew could depend on Donald’s during the convention. So I’d say that the billionaires outside NYC are finally seeing him the same way everybody in NYC sees him.

I’m rooting for the EPA head, Betsy, and Jeff Sessions in particular to be kicked off.

The only problem is Pence being a theocrat. I can only hope the same moneyed interests loathe the idea of The Handmaid’s Tale.

I have a bad feeling this is where it’s all headed…there will be evidence of collusion attempts but no evidence of a crime. Sort of the “hey, look, we tried and this is the best we’ve got”.

And I’m going to lose my shit if that happens.

      • billbear1961

Yes, it’s the MAIN reason it’s taking so long and why things are constantly DELAYED. For one thing, Nunes bought them TIME!

It’s giving them a chance to DESTROY EVIDENCE.

        • houstonray

Preach billbear!! I love your comments because they keep me fired up! And yes, I truly believe they are suppressing and hiding everything they can.

        • billbear1961

After ALL we’ve seen–ALL the suspicious behaviour, activities and connections–all the SECRECY–their credibility is SHOT–it’s GONE!!

At the very, very least, we absolutely REQUIRE, before any trust at ALL is even REMOTELY possible, the RELEASE OF HIS TAX RETURNS!!

How can these investigations EVER be taken SERIOUSLY or considered COMPLETE if we do not see his TAX RETURNS?!

        • billbear1961

Becca, they’re going to cover this up–they’re going to DESTROY evidence!!

          • They can’t. I’ve been on the inside of the international money scene the last several months as our start-up is trying to secure investment funding for a whole bunch of projects.

One type of evidence never goes away because it can’t: Money transfer records. Purchase records. Account records.

For example, if Tom Price is ever charged and convicted, it won’t be because his blatant insider trading was inherently unethical. He’ll be charged because he personally profited from inside information that he had a hand in making come true.

Absolutely, there is no question Trump and many around him committed treason in the form of accepting cash and political help (in getting elected) in exchange for a large number of pro-Russia (and pro-Russian oligarch) foreign policy concessions. With sufficient political will, it could be treason charges, easily. However, this is just my opinion here, but I strongly suspect that things like creating the inauguration slush-fund, accepting bribes in the form of real estate purchases, emoluments violations, and illegal payoffs would be the basis of criminal charges.

When I 1st read ‘All the President’s Men’, the detail I found most remarkable was how Deep Throat kept telling Woodward & Bernstein to ignore the burglary crime and a lot of the rest of the fiddly “yes, it’s illegal and an outrage” stuff, and instead “Follow the money.”

Anyway, we’ll see. This is just my gut, but it feels like events are accelerating. Not nearly as fast as I’d like, but it doesn’t feel stagnant, as far as making progress in dealing with this corrupt, horrifically evil and treasonous mal-administration.

          • billbear1961

I hope you’re right, Becca! I saw you talking earlier about the way Trump is accepting bribes.

If you check out my long post to houstonray above and the tweet I posted to him, as well, you’ll see my fear of a VAST conspiracy to suppress the evidence!

You believe that if there are at least a few honest journalists and/or politicians who get hold of the evidence, all will be well? The SCANDAL will be ENORMOUS, without parallel in our history!!

Frankly, I am sick with fear over this coup AND FURIOUS!!

          • canoebum

Chaffetz isn’t quitting “to spend more time with my family”. That’s for damn sure. As billbear points out, there are multiple crimes involved with multiple actors. At some point, because of Trump’s greed and hubris, it will all unravel. You can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

      • billbear1961

From today’s Carter Page story: “Because of the way Russian spy services operate, Page could have unknowingly talked with Russian agents.”

See? They’re preparing the ground to make EXCUSES for them, to exonerate them!

        I posted THIS earlier today:

Yes, exoneration from any REAL guilt.

I’ve been afraid that, in the end, we’re just going to get one huge WHITEWASH.

It wasn’t just Putin who swung the election–it was very much Comey’s interference, too. So, I don’t trust the FBI.

And the soft-pedalling of ALL the Trump scandals by the “news” media, coupled with their relentless slandering of Clinton, the relentless innuendo; the way they normalized Trump, when they knew damned well he’s dangerously UNFIT for the presidency.

I wonder how VAST is the influence of the Russian oligarchs’ enormous fortunes, Putin’s club of gangsters. Has that influence corrupted many Democrats, too? Is that why they hang back BEHIND grassroots efforts, reluctant, most of them, to say or do much? Has it also corrupted the press? Fox, of course, shills for the fascist coup EVERY DAY, 24/7. Some profit from rubles, others from their masters here in the U.S. There are MANY willing and eager to SERVE the new Regime.

I wonder, too, if many in-the-know will say little because they fear the political EARTHQUAKE of, the catastrophic FALLOUT from, such an unparalleled SCANDAL; because they don’t know where the massive upheaval might lead if all is made public.

After all this SMOKE from the Russia connections, all the obvious FEAR we see coming from the principals, and as we witness what this Regime is up to–how dangerous, incompetent and tyrannical they are, what pathological LIARS they are–there can be NO QUESTION of pretending there’s no FIRE, of EVER recognizing them as “legitimate.” That ship has SAILED, a LONG time ago.

But if the conspiracy is as WIDESPREAD as it seems it might be–involving MANY politicians (certainly most of the GOP, as least the leadership), many in the intelligence community and many in the CORPORATE press who are complicit or who can be bought off–they will almost certainly engage in a great theater of RAGE–outrage–over how wrong we are to “falsely” accuse them when we “have no evidence,” after the investigators have “cleared them.” “It’s a witch hunt, and we must prevent the overthrow of elected government by CRAZED RADICALS and those they have MISLED!!!!”

If or when we refuse to bow down to them, THAT’S what we’re going to hear from them as they try to convince the majority to defend THEM and reject US.

I’m afraid our defense of the republic will collapse when all the country’s corrupted institutions and organs are turned against us.

    http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/04/20/524896256/louisianas-governor-declares-state-of-emergency-over-disappearing-coastline

“Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency over the state’s rapidly eroding coastline.

It’s an effort to bring nationwide attention to the issue and speed up the federal permitting process for coastal restoration projects.

“Decades of saltwater intrusion, subsidence and rising sea levels have made the
Louisiana coast the nation’s most rapidly deteriorating shoreline,” WWNO’s Travis Lux tells our Newscast unit. “It loses the equivalent of one football field of land every hour.”

More than half of the state’s population lives on the coast, the declaration states. It adds that the pace of erosion is getting faster: “more than 1,800 square miles of land between 1932 and 2010, including 300 square miles of marshland between 2004 and 2008 alone.”

The governor estimates that if no further action is taken, “2,250 square miles of
coastal Louisiana is expected to be lost” in the next 50 years. He emphasized the importance of the land to industries such as energy, maritime transportation and trade.”

Traitor Drumpf would try to find a way to continue to defraud the government by funneling money into his coffers.

And to cover up his treasonous act with the Russians.

I just woke up and had a listen. WOW! So brought me up to the days when I stumbled home at sun up after dancing all night, mystery glitter (or worse) falling out of my pocket.

Now, I wake up in bed at dawn’s early light. Choices.

    • TuuxKabin

Good morning. Wish it was a choice to wake up early or not. I’m already thru the previous night’s emails and drumming my fingers waiting for Joe’s next post, while it’s still dark o’clock in the morning. Tho, day light is earlier now. Going to a march today?

      • bdsmjack

Good morning, to you, too! I thought I’d get an early start cleaning this dump up as the huz returns home from a trip, today. But here I am, drinking coffee and surfing the Internet’s. Any plans for you?

        • TuuxKabin

A small group of us will meet near Lincoln Center for the march. It’ll only be about 90 minutes the organizers claim. On the way back up town we’ll go by the Plant Shed for young marigolds, ivy and a few herbs, stop off at the Mexican deli for fresh tamales, p/u some beers, come home and plant the window box on the ground floor and the wee 11×14 deck up here on five. Then lunch. First flowers on the strawberries are coming in and the thyme as usual, wintered over. It was el HubCap’s grandmother’s terracotta, Italian glazed, planter. We think she must have appreciated herbs. Damn NE chill ya’ to the bone morning. The march’ll heat things up. Give the huz(zah) a big one from us. Same to you.

          • bdsmjack

Aw, that sounds like the perfect day! We can’t plant anything up in Minnesota til after Mother’s Day, except violas and pansies which are very cold hardy. My freshly planted pots got buried under a foot of new snow and I just brushed em off, and they bounced right back. (Just like 20 year old me, coming home from an all night party). Have a great day!

We made it to the rally. By the time we left, it was ten blocks from 62nd/Central Park West to 72nd/Central Park West/The Dakota. It’s like Halloween, looking at peoples’ signs, lots of smiling faces, so many wonderful mixes of people. Just as it should be, IMHO. Our Johnny jump ups jumped up last week. Wee things, dark, dark purple with sweet white faces. Picked up some flowering ground cover and three colors of marigold just to get started. Will build ’round that. We made it to the deli in time to get half dozen red n’ green mole tamales. All we need is the hammock built for two for a bit of a siesta. Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the growth as it returns.

          • hudson11

good morning. so many of your posts make me want to come back to NYC so badly. Hope the march went well.

          • TuuxKabin

Ahhh, thanks. So many of the recent demonstrations have reinforced my sense of belonging here. The spirit of everyone, all us peeps on the same island. Coming together. The demo, from 62/CPW up to 72nd & the Dakota was an eye full of smiling, happy faces, creative signs and a few clever repeats, like: “THERE IS NO PLANET B “. ‘GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUNDING FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE”. “WE MUST RISE UP BEFORE THE TIDES DOES” and a few others in the camera I’ve yet to down load. There were a few dogs in the crush, all seemed okay with it. Living in NYC ya’ gotta get used to the crush. The only good thing the hell beast has done is brought so much of us together, and split up those who needed to go separate ways, such as my remaining family. Sister and her sons. Pffffft, made me realize they never had my back to begin with. Was all lip service. I’m free from obligation. That’s all wet. If you ever pull yourself away from

          • TuuxKabin

Ooops. Hit post before finishing. I was saying if you find yourself headed back t his way, we have room for three days/nights or so. Two studio apartments, top floor, five floor walk up, rear one has a wee deck we’ve just started replanting and seeding today. Earth Day. I think my avatar likes your avatar a lil’ bit.

          • hudson11

hey- that would be incredible. how do folks on here get in touch with one another directly?

          • TuuxKabin

Exchange email addresses, silly. I correspond with a couple of other fellow commentator tots. Apart from on topic and off topic matters at hand we ‘carry on’ , on the side. Even met a couple of people.

I’ll return to (this, the) notification page in the morning, and re-reply to you with my address. Then you let me know when you’ve copied it and I’ll delete that part. Don’t just want any ol’ commentator tot getting a hold of it. The longer our comments sit here in the ‘notifications’ page less likely to be read. Other threads and topics are in the forefront.

            Hasta la en la ma帽ana.

          • hudson11

            wonderful

Got it. Thanks. You may want to ‘edit’ and remove. Just a suggestion. Note on its way to you soon.

          • TuuxKabin

got it. may want to remove now. don’t want it in the address book of some trolling toll. Message sent to you 1010EDST.

you know, tuux (if i may be informal), i actually noticed your early AM posting time earlier this week and thought to myself “i should recommend a small dose of melatonin, the sublngual kind. i wonder if that would help.” i have intermittent early waking issues, too. can really throw off the day.

        • TuuxKabin

Thank you edrex! I love the informal, familiar as well. I appear to have gotten so used to my day being thrown off by so little sleep I sometimes nod off sitting here in front of the computer. I’m on my second bottle in a month. Like you mention, the sublingual kind, el HubCap and I take a nightly dosage and from time to time I’ll get an extra hour or two added sleep. This morning I slept until about 5:15, an extra hour or 90 minutes to when I don’t use it. I’d like an IV of it for the night. I dread the approaching longer days, the morning light starts breaking before 5AM. Black out curtains would help, but curtains create a claustrophobic feeling, so I siesta in the afternoon, with a hit of dark, dark chocolate once awake again. Thoughtful of you. Thanks again.

Love this! What a great way to start this crystal clear Saturday! And the animation!

…Just hold me closer darling, kiss me without care…

    • TuuxKabin

Yeah, was hoping the animation would influence last night’s dreams. No dice. Great day for a ProScience March.

      • easygoingmister

It is a great day to march around! We’re planning on the Candler park one here in Atlanta, but my guy’s corporate overlord deadline might be trying to interfere. Fingers crossed!

        • TuuxKabin

Hope you get to accomplish both. Fingers crossed here for you.

Wonder how much she got beaten for not keeping up that time?

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

She has to stay far enough behind not to get entangled in the puppet’s strings – should Putin give them a stiff yank!

This photo speaks volumes doesn’t it? Wow.

      • SoCalGal20

        It really does.

Gorgeous song. Some nice shots of my hometown at one of the best times of day to see it in the video, although it also feels nice leaving somewhere here in Berlin at that time of day too.
