Hillary Clinton Slams Trump On LGBT Rights, Calls For Administration To Demand Action In Chechnya [VIDEO]

NBC News reports:

Hillary Clinton slammed President Donald Trump’s administration for what she said were moves against LGBT rights during a fundraiser for an LGBT community center in New York City on Thursday.

“Each time this administration elevates an outspoken opponent of LGBT equality — sometimes in particularly cruel ways like replacing the first openly gay Secretary of the Army with someone who called being transgender a ‘disease’ — I picture all of the joyful, beaming couples that I’ve met across our country … who are so excited to get married, start a family, and begin their lives together,” Clinton said, referring to Trump’s pick of Mark Green for the post.

“It’s not just here in our country that we’re seeing clouds gathering on the horizon,” Clinton said. “The US government — yes, this government — must demand an end to the persecution of gay men in Russia,” she said. Clinton said that while some changes of the new administration may seem small, they matter to those affected. “Others carry historic significance, like the future of the Supreme Court,” Clinton said.

So far UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is the only top Trump administration official to speak out on Chechnya. Clinton closed her speech with her famous line, “Gay rights are human right and human rights are gay rights!”

So many things would be so much better now if she were Madam President. More sane judges, the ACA would be protected as would the environment, etc. Sigh.

    • Todd20036

Not to mention women’s, LBGTs’, and minority religions’ rights.

    • Yes, and it’s likely that if she had cleared the hurdle in WI and PA, she’d have had enough coattails to bring in those Democratic Senate candidates as well. With Tim Kaine’s tie-breaker and no non-SCOTUS filibuster, the 100+ lower court vacancies that McTurtle forced to stay vacant would have been quickly filled. I could strangle the supposedly progressive “but her emails” crowd that kept saying the courts weren’t a big deal.

  • Dramphooey

“Others carry historic significance, like the future of the Supreme Court,” Clinton said.

Oh, that apparently isn’t significant at all in the opinion of every protest voter.

    • Ninja0980

The courts have never mattered to them.

    • Gerry Fisher

It was so huge. So huge.

  • dcurlee

Every day I’m disgusted…..she should be our president

    • Silver Badger

As much as I agree with some of your posts, your avatar makes my skin crawl. While I admit I may need new glasses, It looks like a naked man with a small child on his lap.

I was kinda thinking that but trying to be nice

        • Silver Badger

I was hoping as much. Thank you for the clarification. I will make an appointment with my opthamologist first thing this morning.

Unfortunately, I believe her time has come and gone. Yes, things would be a hell of alot better had the election not been swindled…but it was, and I think it is going to take a very strong rising star in the Dem party to put trump out with the swampy trash. Hillary had too much baggage – either real or manufactured – too many fronts to defend (aka death by a millions paper cuts) – and running again won’t make all of it go away. Of course, I don’t know of any better candidates – so its a catch 22.

    • Guest

I am not a Clinton hater. I voted for her.

That said, I hate it that with the Clintons everything seems calculated. She was famous for her caution just as bill was for triangulation and she was famous for waiting to take stands. For example, this would ring more honorable if her or Bill would have said anything when Arkansas had doe their hate law about a year ago. Silence from them and the HRC national too.

      • Mark

Same here…and it kinda bugs me to say her time is eclipsed. But focus has to shift to putting trump out in a strategic and decisive blow to the R’s. We will be suffering the same ‘death by a million paper cuts’ if we fail.

      • Jeffrey

Do you really sit here with Donald Trump as president and complain about someone who thinks before acting? Because that’s what calculating means and I wouldn’t mind having some of that right now. Thinking first used to be considered a good thing. I can’t even believe you’d waste time complaining about Hillary Clinton in the mess we are currently in.

        • Gerry Fisher

We can really like and admire people and still admit that they have a fault or three. She did contribute to her own loss. And keep reading down the list of definitions for “calculating.”

          • JCF

“She did contribute to her own loss”

That’s like saying “the bottom 99% aren’t paying their fair share of taxes”. Technically true, but SO not the point!

        • Guest

Thinking is one thing. Try it sometime.

I can walk and chew gum at the same time.

My point was if she was constant, it would mean more now.

She is either with us or not. If yes, then if she had taken a stand with her own old state, she would have had more respect from those in other states. She and bill were quiet, hoping to win their old state. You know, calculating which turns off people.

        • Guest

And people respond to firmness and principles. Taking and defending stands is a mark of a leader and a mark people vote for. Obama was clear on many stands, even if we were an evolution for him…Thank you Biden.

Trump won by taking stands, like them or not. He won by lying, but lying about stands people wanted to hear. He won union households by stealing left wing framing.

If we are not factual, we are doomed to lose.

She bugs me in this regard, too. She positions herself as a huge ally, but it feels “late,” cautious, and containing too much “doesn’t this make me look good saying this? doesn’t it make you want too support me?”

And *none* of what I’m saying means that she shouldn’t be president and that she wouldn’t have done well by us. I supported her during the campaign and voted for her.

    • rextrek1

Id Love to see Gavin Newsome RUN for President – he’s Progressive, persistent, Loud, and wont take crap…..and he’s Good Looking to boot…

    • Dutchlander

      Cory Booker. Amazing guy.

      • Vista-Cruiser

Not so keen on him. He supports privatizing public schools.

        • Capritaur

No more purity test. I probably won’t caucus for him but I will vote for him if he’s the nominee.

    • Her time as presidential candidate has probably come and gone. But she can still influence politics.

    • Gerry Fisher

      >Hillary had too much baggage – either real or manufactured –

This is my take away. We didn’t calculate the intensity of that baggage.

    • David Milley

My mom always said we elected the wrong Clinton back in the ’90s. Mom was right.

    • Goodboy

Wouldn’t matter if they ran Jesus Christ himself as the election was stolen and will be again if things don’t change.

    • Snarky

I think you’re right. Rising star of some kind.

For 2020 the Dems need to nominate someone who hasn’t been in the crosshairs of the right wing media/blogging/fake news machine for the past 30 years. It was easy to demonize Clinton because the “Crooked Hillary” attacks all fed into a narrative that’s built built up about her over the past decades. People were ready to believe it.

As for the Comet Ping Pong/pedophile ring bullshit, that was just so fkn crazy, it shows you that some people will believe anything no mater how ridiculous it is, because they want to. And because they’re not critical thinkers (that’s about the nicest characterization I can think of).

  • joe ho

Thank you, Green Partiers and Bernie or Busters, for the roll back of LGBT rights!

    Well played! Well played!

    • Todd20036

They’ll never accept the blame. It’s why I tend to block them

    • Vista-Cruiser

Their goals have always been to:
      1. Drive the Democratic Party into extinction.
      2. Make life absolutely miserable in this country.
      3. Lead a successful revolution against the misery.

They’ve accomplished goals 1 and 2, but I don’t see any way they can pull off number 3.

    • Ironic of you to say that when:

      1. About 90% of all Sanders supporters voted for Clinton.

      2. You scapegoat third-party voters and the left constantly. Clinton lost because her campaign screwed up, and the DNC lost over 1,000 seats under the Obama Administration because their leadership stunk. When you don’t campaign in Wisconsin at all following the primary and barely campaign in Michigan after losing a close Dem Primary, your campaign really screwed up.

      3. Third-party voters were a complete non-factor in the election.

      4. In the past, you advocated violence against specific voter groups and told at least two people in previous threads to kill themselves.

    • Dean

You played yourself. I am so sick of the neoliberal echo- chamber bullshit that achieves nothing. Deconstruction is desperately needed and way overdue. I say this as a lifelong Labour Party/Democrat supporter.

      • joe ho

Another far left fucktard in denial parroting GOP and Russian talking points.

It took Russia, Wikileaks, a rogue FBI, GOP voter suppression, an archaic electoral college system plus a sustained vicious attack from the far left to bring HRC down. Still won pop vote by 3 million.

Bernie couldn’t even win progressive California.

No. America is not going to turn into a socialist workers’ paradise.

The only deconstruction needed now is for far left shitstains like you to throw yourselves off very tall buildings. You imbeciles have done enough damage to our country. 2000 and now 2016.

  • Dejerrity Mycron

Is it me or is she looking more and more like Angela Merkel these days?

    • TuuxKabin

Well, just ’cause the three youse do . . . /s

  • Acronym Jim

I know this kind of observation probably irks Popular-Vote President Clinton to no end, but I am really liking her hair in this video. Even more proof that it’s beneficial to be supportive of the gay community.

  • Gil

How much she get paid for this appearance, I wonder?

    • M Jackson

I don’t. Probably none of my business.

    • sword

Clinton is not an accountant nor a rocket scientist. She is a politician…guess what?…politicians make their living by talking.

    • Snarky

I don’t give a rat’s ass if or how much she was paid. Being a fundraiser, it’s likely she “donated” her usual speaking fee and will take it as a charitable donation tax writeoff, though. That’s how speakers at fundraisers often do it.

  • BobSF_94117

I wish everyone would stop saying this is happening in Chechnya. This is happening in Russia. If this were in Catalonia, we’d say “Spain”. If this were in Sardinia, we’d say “Italy”.

  • billbear1961
  • david fairfield

Trump is absolutely disinterested in civil rights of any kind. He waves his hands to his ilk and has them do as they please, and our progress is going in the opposite direction. There’s no question that he hijacked the White House, and I hope he rots in prison when he is exposed. Fucker.

  • Vista-Cruiser

Go away Hillary. If you really cared about LGBT people, you wouldn’t have triangulated against us earlier in your public life, and you wouldn’t have allowed Trump to win last year.

    • Snarky

Yes, clearly she “allowed” Trump to win and clearly it was because of how much she hates us. /s

    • Bob

Thanks — a voice of sanity.

Historically, she and her husband were always ready to throw us under the bus when it was politically expedient.

PS — want to know why Trump is president? Because of a massive fail on the part of our party to come up with strong leaders.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

It’s when I see such oration and clear, concise points being made that I truly come to admire how so many were able to ensure the U.S. dodged a Hillary presidency. Truly, America made the right decision by electing 45, it so obvious even Helen Keller can see it.

I trust you’ll all tell me when I’ve too far with the sarcasm?

  • Bob

I sure wish she would just fade away already.

Want to now why Trump is president? Because Shillary and scumbags in the Democratic Leadership wanted to anoint her president. This turd-blossom of an administration is the fault of our own tone-deafness, stupidity and over-reach.

There’s a special place in hell for her, Donna, Debbie and all the other corrupt shills….

  • JCF
  • Dean

Tell us something we don’t know. You are still an opportunistic warmonger with an assload of shady baggage. No thank you.
