ALABAMA: State Supreme Court Upholds Booting Of Roy Moore For Defying SCOTUS On Obergefell Ruling

AL.com reports:

The Alabama Supreme Court today upheld the decision that removed Roy Moore from his position as chief justice. Moore in a press conference after the decision called the prosecution “politically” motivated and declared that he remains Chief Justice despite the suspension regarding an administrative order against the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

“I have done my duty under the laws of this state to stand for the undeniable truth that God ordained marriage as the union of one and one woman,” Moore said during the press conference with reporters in the Old Supreme Court Chambers at the Alabama State Capitol. Moore can’t appeal the ruling to the federal courts because there are no federal issues. “This is it,” he said.

Moore also said he would reveal early next week for any plans he may have to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by former Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, who was appointed to replace Jeff Sessions who is now U.S. Attorney General.

The Liberty Counsel is screaming:

“This opinion and the entire case against Chief Justice Moore is a tragedy. For the first time in the history of Alabama, a justice has been disciplined for issuing an Administrative Order. Under this system, no judge is safe to issue orders or render dissents. The system has to change, and politics should be removed from judicial decision making and disciplinary actions,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, which represents Chief Justice Moore.

“The JIC and the COJ can apparently now violate their own rules and second-guess a judge’s judicial order to remove him from the bench for life. Some people may applaud today’s decision because they oppose Chief Justice Moore. Many will be saddened by this opinion. No one is a winner today. Neither the people of Alabama, and especially its judges, should take comfort. The system needs to be fixed,” said Staver.

He won’t be able to run for supreme court justice…he will have aged out of that…but you can bet he’ll run in the upcoming US senator race. You’re never too old to be a senator.

  • Lars Littlefield

Staver is like that one kid in 5th grade who insisted he was right all of the time, even though he was always wrong. He grew up insisting only he was right until one day he was found to be a danger to the general public. He died in the state mental hospital many years later, still insisting he was right. Is there a mental hospital we can put Staver?

He’s far too useful losing court cases for the Thugs.

Staver makes millions (literally big $$) on money begs that he sends out with each loss. It always was grand standing and not real. He should be disbarred for not actually engaging in law, all of his suits are frivolous crap.

We haven’t seen the last of this nut. As crazy as it sounds he just may try running for congress. Remember the disgraced Alabama governor, Robert, “hey girl, can I combover” Bentley? The governor who replaced Bentley has called for a special election for the seat that was Jeff Session’s, was given to AG Luther Strange by Bentley. It was all pretty shady. But I wouldn’t put it past Moore to try to throw his hat in the ring.

    • He plans to run for governor, last I heard.

“The system needs to be fixed.” Some might say it has been by this action. Others may think back to when it was fixed against anyone a judge didn’t like. And then one could put the emphasis on “needs” and understand racism and hate in that good old classic sense.

So i read the names listed on the opinion, and then checked the membership of the AL supreme court, and none of the names match! The al.com article references a “special supreme court”. • Nowhereman

            They make great watch-dogs, too.

      • NancyP

The goose may have been imprinted on this human. If you ever get a chance, see the movie “Winged Migration” – photographed from a human-powered glider that flew with the geese in question. Someone from the movie team hand raised “their” goslings from hatching, and they practiced first calling the geese to follow them “whereever” and then practiced flying the glider and calling. Spectacular shots, birds as far away from glider as one bird is to another in a flight “V”.

Most non-imprinted geese can be a PITA if they don’t get what they want. At college, the dormitory / dining hall overlooked a pond/lake and woods – popular with the Canada geese. They would peck on the window glass for someone to come out and feed them day-old bread or something. If you just walked out with nothing, they nipped your legs. Gimme!!!
