Trump Makes Rare Church Appearance [VIDEO]

The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reports:

President Donald Trump arrived with First Lady Melania Trump and other family members for the 11 a.m. Sunday morning Easter services at The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach. Trump, in a dark suit and red tie, waved to photographers across the street from the church. He was accompanied by his wife, daughter Tiffany, and son Barron.

Melania Trump’s parents were also there, according to a White House pool reporter traveling with the president. It’s the same church that the future President and First Lady were married at in 2005. The Trumps were expected to head back to Mar-a-Lago after the church service to have their annual brunch and Easter egg hunt with Trump’s older sons Eric and Don, Jr., and their families, according to a White House pool reporter.

Trump, a self-proclaimed “devout Christian,” last stepped foot in a church on inauguration day.Β

  • Joe in PA

He was married in a church? Wow.

    • John

Yeah. His feeling was, “What the Hell, right?”

Green is not a natural color for marshmallows.

        • DaddyRay

Even the marshmallows found behind the refrigerator don’t turn green

          • another_steve

We have field mice here (our house is in the woods) and I once made the mistake of leaving a dish of marshmallows on the kitchen counter, uncovered.

The next morning, there were little chewed pieces of marshmallow all over the kitchen floor.

Your maine coon doesn’t get ’em?

            She’s not into sweets.

She’ll check them out — paw at them — and then think, “fuck this shit” and go on to other things.

          • greenmanTN

I’ve read that cats do not have taste buds for sweet. They literally don’t taste it and so are not interested.

          • another_steve

Tuna Fish, babe. Tuna Fish. The universal cat obsession.

I swear this is true… when my girl hears the electric can opener in operation, she darts into the kitchen from wherever she’s been in the house — with the hope that it’s a can of tuna fish that I’m opening.

          • Ben in Oakland

My cats did t care for Una. Smoked salmon, Salmon, crab, lobster. That was the stuff for them.

          • another_steve

To which I would say (with much gay male attitude) to my little one… “EXCUSE me, bitch girlfriend! It’s either tuna or you can get the fuck out of here and get clawed to death in the street by some mangy dog.”

          • marshlc

Huh, that’s strange, because every cat I’ve had has had a sweet tooth. More than once came in to the kitchen to find all the icing licked off the cake or cookies.

          • greenmanTN
          • yes b’y
          • marshlc

I notice they say something in there about some cats being able to taste high concentrations of sugar, so maybe that was it. I do know that they didn’t care about lightly sweet things, but just the really sugary stuff – they’d lick off the icing, but leave the cake behind, for instance. Huh, interesting.

          • Dumbledore

I think Safari may have been referring to the mice.

Although I grew up in a Jewish household, my folks were NYC progressives who wanted to make sure my young sister and I were exposed to other cultures — including all the gentile mishegases. So on Christmas eve we set out cookies for Santa and on Christmas day we received gifts.

And on Easter we decorated Easter eggs.

    • Most Christians don’t even agree on who is and who isn’t Christians.

Since Pope Francis, the trumpanzees at BreitFart claimed Catholic ain’t no Christian

      • another_steve

Catholics — because there’s a pretty long line of intellectualism (e.g., the Jesuits) in Catholic tradition — are generally scorned by non-Catholic Christians. That, plus the perceived “servitude” to another human being (the Pope) offends them.

American Catholics are also one of the relatively (all things being relative) most progressive of the mainstream Christian denominations. Polls show, for example, that a majority of American Catholics are okay with marriage equality.

        • Dumbledore

I beg to differ about being the most progressive. I regard the Episcopal Church as mainstream. It is a very inclusive denomination, has LGBT priests and now has marriage for gays.

          • another_steve

Agree. I didn’t mean to imply that the Catholic Church is the “most progressive,” but merely one of the “relatively most progressive” Christian denominations.

If we were to “rank” Christian or quasi-Christian denominations as to social consciousness, surely the Unitarian Universalists would rank in the top tier.

Allies of all marginalized communities, they are.

No Church is more dedicated to the cause of social justice than theirs.

This may come as a surprise to some, but a great many Southerners don’t consider Catholics xtian. Part of it may have to do with their appropriation of the term Christian (as in First Christian Church of Boobsville) where Catholics use “Catholic”. But it also has to do with so-called biblical literalism, which Catholicism rejects.

        • jmax

My partner is Catholic. I like to tell him that as a Baptist I was taught that part of Catholic Mass involved sacrificing babies. Mostly joking, but not too far from how some Evangelicals think of the RCC.

          • FAEN

            Regular Baptist or Southern Baptist?

          • JCF

Or Southern Regular Baptist? [I recall a LONG joke along these lines. After about a DOZEN “Great, me toos!” there’s a “Go to hell, heretic!” at the end.]

          • jmax

Independent Baptist. The Southern Baptist Convention was too liberal for us πŸ™‚

          • FAEN

            HA!

          • another_steve

My partner-husband is also Catholic (a devout one), and I’m a cultural (non-religious) Jew. For many many years, the Catholics had a prayer in their liturgy that prayed for the redemption of the “perfidious Jews.”

That wasn’t nice, of course. Very tacky. Very disrespectful.

So some Pope came along (I can’t recall which one) and said, “Okay, let’s stop saying that. It’s not nice,” and they removed the prayer from their liturgy.

But to this day, when I have a major no-holds barred argument with my man, I’ll say something like, “So you think I’m just a perfidious Jew bastard, don’t ya…!”

          • JT

            It was The Young Pope.

          • Craig Howell

That was Pius XII, in 1955 or so. I remember when he removed that phrase from the Good Friday liturgy. As a good Catholic youngster, I had assumed “perfidious” meant “lost.”

          • another_steve

            Lol. Thanks, Craig. πŸ˜‰

Friends and family sometimes ask me what it’s like for a very cultural and emotional hysteric Jew like me to live with and love an extremely devout Catholic. A fair question, I think.

So I respond by attempting to describe (inadequately, surely) the utter ecstasy of loving a man who is so accepting of differences.

            Without condemnation. Without judgment.

Totally totally accepting and embracing of “difference.”

          • ChrisMorley

Wikipedia explains, correctly, that it wasn’t Pope Pius XII that changed the wording of the Good Friday prayer for the Jews, but Pope John XXIII, in 1959, and this change was published for the whole church in the 1962 revision of the Latin Missal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday_prayer_for_the_Jews#1960_prayer

I was at a Junior seminary in England at the time and remember that the old Missal with original Latin prayer “Oremus et pro perfidis IudΓ¦is” (= Let us pray for the faithless Jews) continued to be used in some churches even after 1962, including in our seminary’s chapel.
Churches needed to buy an expensive new large print ceremonial version of the 1962 Missal for the priest to use and many didn’t buy this for several years.

          • another_steve

Interesting background. Thanks, Chris. Also interesting to learn of your Junior seminary experience.

I had a special love as a young man still in university. He was a Passionist brother in training for the priesthood who subsequently left his religious community and became a leading gay activist in New York City during the 1970s. He and I are still close to this day.

Through him I’ve met other gay former Passionist brothers — loving and compassionate men, all.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I believe that there is still a prayer to make the Jews turn to Christ or something.
It just blends. Atheism is so much easier/better.

          • ChrisMorley

            Not correct.
The only change Pope Pius XII made in 1955 was to require catholics to kneel during the prayer for the Jews.

The original prayer was only later reworded, by Pope John XXIII. ‘On 21 March 1959, Pope John XXIII ordered that the word “faithless” (Latin: perfidis) be removed from the prayer for the conversion of the Jews,[12] actually interrupting the Service and asking the prayer to be repeated without that word.[13]:40 This word had caused much trouble in recent times because of misconceptions that the Latin perfidis was equivalent to “perfidious”, giving birth to the view that the prayer accused the Jews of treachery (perfidy), though the word is more correctly translated as “faithless”
            or “unbelieving”.[14]
This change was formally made across the whole church in the 1962 revision of the Latin Missal. [15]

          • Craig Howell

Thanks for sharing that. Another example of the unreliability of memory, I guess.

          • ChrisMorley

I only remember because I first went to a junior seminary in autumn 1963 and the old Latin version of the prayer “pro perfidis IudΓ¦is” continued to be said, because they hadn’t yet bought a new large print ceremonial version of the new Latin Missal for the priest to use at the service in our seminary chapel.

          • My friend from Spain came over last year, and it happened to be for the Jewish High Holidays, and as a joke, I had the store manager in the meat department at Publix in Florida come out and say “Eddie, I have your young goat ready for the sacrifice at the Temple. Would you like to pick him up now?”. You should have seen the look on my friend’s face, he turned white. I told him that Jews sacrifice baby goats for the New Years. It was priceless.

My mother is Catholic and my father was a Southern Baptist. Growing up during the sixties and seventies showed a stark contrast between the the leadership of the two religions. The local Southern Baptist leadership supported segregation, the local Catholic Bishop excommunicated Catholic political leaders for supporting segregation. The local racist oligarchs in Southern Louiana, the Perez family, were violent enough to blow up my brother’s Catholic grade school before it opened as integrates. All the local Baptists supported the Perez’s until the bitter end doing a great deal of harm to my family in the process.

          • 2guysnamedjoe

A Bronx Irish Catholic friend (like myself) visited Atlanta in the late ’70s, where she met some guy in a bar who was convinced that the following prayer was central to the RC liturgy:
From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties, may the saints preserve us.

        • I have yet to hear a good rebuttal from them about the Vatican used to be the very face of Christianity.

catholics are not Christian…look at the church history, abusing priests, Jewish theft in the world wars, nuns abuse of those orphan girls, silence during AIDS…catholics are the devil’s spawn. Any gay person who supports a religion that vilifies them is a masochist. I had a boyfriend all up in the catholic church….i didn’t know it at first but when he tried to argue catholicicm with me, i sang that old Gale Garnett song, “we’ll sing in the sunshine” and I went on my way. Damned shame, French, thick dark hair, hot body…my dog even liked him…alas some things are just more important πŸ™‚

        • another_steve

Oh hon, stop generalizing and stereotyping. “Catholics are not Christian.” [slap in your face]

There are tons of LGBT Catholics. I’m married to one, and I bet he’s done more progressive activism in his lifetime than you can only dream about.

Now repent, babe, and go forth.

          And sin no more.

          • NancyP

Yep, plenty of progressive lay Catholics out there. Catholicism is pretty ethnic – you stay in the Church because you were raised in the Church, and all of your relatives are nominally members of the Church. The typical American Catholic is a cafeteria Catholic and doesn’t give two hoots about the bloviations of the bishop and higher up. The bishops lost the obedience of the masses when contraception was officially forbidden after promising signs that it would be allowed (in the 1960s). American Catholics are familiar with the careerism of the hierarchy and the attempts of ambitious priests to attract attention. Consequently they like their own parish priests (mostly) and the nuns. Certain parishes are fine with gay people. BTW, Catholics are counted as Catholics until they formally renounce the church – a PITA bureaucratic procedure that few bother to do. There are millions of Americans who are counted by the RCC as “members” who haven’t darkened the door of a church in decades, or who are members of other non-Catholic religious denominations, or who consider themselves atheists, ….
The typical American Protestant jumps denominations at the drop of a hat.

          • another_steve

            Thanks, Nancy.

My man is a Catholic gay activist, very involved in the very large American movement of Catholic LGBT activists. Blogmeister Joe here chooses to focus only on the horrors of the Catholic Church and not on the many many good Catholics — queer and straight — who work day and night toward the goal of social justice and Church reform.

            And that’s okay.

It’s Joe’s blog and his decision to make.

          • I flagged the comment anyway, because if I just substitute ‘Catholic’ with any other religious denomination — Jew, Muslim, Hindu — the bigotry becomes obvious.

I do think it’s foolish, personally, for an LGBT person to insist on being a loyal Catholic, given the official positions of the church, but to refer to all Catholics as ‘devil’s spawn’ is beyond the pale. IMHO

          • another_steve

            Hear ya, Becca.

I have a personal policy on this blog of only flagging/blocking commenters who engage in ad hominem. Who attack the person, not the idea.

I believe 100 percent in the right of all people to air their views, however heinous and personally offensive to me those views might seem.

          • Da trumpanzees think da Pope is a Satanist moose-lamb lover, of course they’re chopping off Catholics too.

This is the thing I despise most about Trump. He legitimized the loud-mouthed trumpanzees and now I’ve gotta be aware of their stupidity.

          • Gustav2

The number the RCC claims are members in LA could not fit in the LA churches on a given weekend even if they had services 24/7 Saturday and Sunday..

        • j.martindale

There is no rule book defining “Christian.” Belief is as malleable a substance as exists, and you can cherry pick the many translations of the Old and New Testaments as you want to create your very special Xtian sects. Arguing who is or is not a Christian is as fallow a subject of debate as the question of angels on pin heads.

        • JT

By that standard, most so-called christian denominations are not christian.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

For it not being Christian there’s an awful lot of Jesus going on in Catholicism. Might want to rethink that definition. And also that most Christian religions fit the billing that you noted, Catholics included.

          • JT

I’m not saying Catholics aren’t Christians. The person I’m responding to is. It’s laughable to say they aren’t (except perhaps in the sense of being “Christ-like”, which is more appropriate to say of evangelical Protestants). Protestants got their Christianity from the Roman church and then broke away from it.

      • olandp

I was raised, loosely, Southern Baptist with a bit of Pentecostal thrown in. I always thought the Catholics worshiped idols; the statues of “The Virgin Mary” and all of those Saints. The Evangelicals don’t believe you need anyone to intervene for you with God, you have a direct line.

Part of why I’m an Atheist, much to the displeasure of my brother’s wife.

        • another_steve

The belief that there’s no need for an “intervenor” or intermediary when it comes to one’s relationship with the divine (however one defines “divine”) is considered a very spiritually adept belief among mystics of all faiths, you know.

If you genuinely believe that, you’ve attained a very high level of spiritual adeptness, they would say.

      • What about Mormons? Do they qualify as Christians? Its a serious question from someone raised as a perfidious non-believer with a “veil over his heart” to this very day!

        • I doubt there’s consensus.
BreitFart trumpanzees of course don’t think Catholic & Mormons as Christians. The Christians I know in real life DO.

        • JCF

MOST religiously-informed Christians do not believe that Mormons are Christian (because they are not Trinitarian, in any Creedal way).

        • joeyj1220

As a prof of religious studies, Mormonism (or the Latter Day Saints as they prefer) most certainly ARE classified as Christian (at least from an academic standpoint). Their beliefs on Jesus fall outside the mainstream of most orthodox, “creedal” Christianities, but they do belong to the Christian ‘tree’.

    • vorpal

Thanks hon! I’ll be celebrating it next weekend in Houston with el Boytoy and Gotterdammerung (the end of the world)! I plan on continuing to work full time until I am 70 because I love what I do, but need to figure out the benefits and Medicare thing in the meantime. Anyone here have any advice? ❀️

          • Lumpy Gaga

Soc Security retirement benefits are not necessarily tax-free at the Federal level. If you’ve got other income, be prepared to find out next tax season how much of that is taxable. (Actually, there’s a worksheet in the downloadable 1040 Instruction booklet that will tell you exactly how much ends up taxable.)

And the earlier you opt to start taking your SS benefits, the lower the monthly bottom line on the check. By signing up right at 65, you’ll be taking a monthly-income hit in your check for life — $$ which you’re gonna need later rather than sooner, and you’ll potentially end up paying more tax on it (depending on your other income) by starting at 65.

          • Johnny Wyeknot

Thanks. I don’t need the supplemental income particularly, though sometimes I feel fortunate to still be alive. I guess good sense demands holding out til I finally retire. I can change my mind if my circumstances change, I guess. So much to consider.

          • Lumpy Gaga

And Medicare eligibility starts at 65 (for non-disabled folk), and does NOT require you start your Social Security payments. You can get Medicare-without-SS at 65.

Once on Medicare, you’ll pretty surely want “Part B”, (probably currently ~$90/month), partially because there’s a built-in penalty for putting it off, and (speaking roughly) Part B covers MDs, while Part A (plain-vanilla Medicare) covers hospitalization up to a point.

Once on Medicare, you can opt for a Medicare Advantage or Medicare gap plan from a private insurer. Maybe this feels like you’re being nickel and dimed to death, but it will probably beat staring down the premiums associated with not having Medicare and staring down the pricelists of our inevitable Trumpcare exchanges (assuming you do not have reasonable insurance with your employer, or some other advantageous deal post-65.)

Finally, “Part D”: George W’s signature legislative achievement. Prescription coverage for Medicare enrollees. If you put off signing up for Medicare Part D past your initial eligibility (age 65), and cannot show that you had “creditable coverage” for drugs between 65 and applying for Part D, there will be a permanent late-enrollment assessment added to your monthly “Part D” premiums, whoever your carrier is, based on the number of months in that gap, multiplied by a fluctuates-from-year-to-year dollar amount. Also, too: donut holes. Which shrunk thanks to the ACA, but look set to grow again.

          • TuuxKabin

follow your bliss. If you enjoy what you do, can wait until 70 to retire do it. Or phase out if you can. Shorten your work week to the minimum as long as you can stay on benefits.

I enjoyed my job, hated my boss. The last half year I worked the minimum 21 hours a week to stay on benefits. Only because they hadn’t, typically, done anything towards replacing me.

I was 65 and our financial adviser gave me the green light to do it. that was 11 years ago. Things have been fine, but with this administration fear for the worse. El HubCap, this last year when he turned 66 filed his SS claim, to draw from my account. Doesn’t do a thing to my payout while his grows until he’s 70, when he can file a claim on his own. Medicare and his health insurance are my primary coverage and co-payments for M.D. visits and Rx are usually $20. Our overhead costs are not a lot. We’re fortunate we can do pretty much whatever we want to do. The upcoming cross country train trip and back is about 3 months expenses here at home, we decided it’s worth it. Trip insurance, not that much, has us covered. Full reimbursement. My real advice, after all that, is check with your financial adviser, guessing you have one. But if you’re happy with what you do. Do it as long as you can. I’m not at a loss for things to do, but living here, it’s kind of hard to not do something, a lot of the time. DC must be like that as well, sure.

Thanks for the link. That is so important to put local pressure on your your Congresspeople during Recess, when they are in their Constituencies.

      ATTEND A RESISTANCE RECESS EVENT
The first Resistance Recess in February was a huge success, and constituent activity has been widely credited with building the power to stop Trump and Ryan from taking away our health care. As Trump remains under investigation and as Congress continues to push Trump’s unconstitutional and dangerous agenda, we must make sure that no one allows the passing of time to normalize this president and his harmful policies.

That’s why we’re preparing for another Resistance Recess, April 8β€”23, when members of Congress are back home for two weeks for their “spring break.” We’ll attend their town hall meetings, organize our own β€œconstituent town halls” and invite our members of Congress if they fail to plan their own, and show up everywhere else they do, so that they understand our message of resistance.

Will you join fellow constituents and attend a Resistance Recess action April 8-23?

Flynn would subsequently be reported to have been in meetings with Turkish representatives during said 2016 campaign to have GΓΌllen illegally kidnapped and shipped to Turkey for torture, show-trial and execution.

On those many Sundays when Trump doesn’t attend Church, he is probably at Mar-a-Lago reading the bible. He has said that the Bible is his favorite book. When quizzed as to which book in the Bible is his favorite, he said all of it. We know that as the “devout Christian” that he claims to be, he doesn’t lie.

    • It is costing us Palm Beach County taxpayers literally millions right now to protect him — and we are not getting any extra money from Washington D.C. to do this. The City of Palm Beach is very rich, but Palm Beach County on average is just middle — with some very poor areas that could use the funds (like Belle Glades Florida). We are considering taking some extreme measures right now — like not providing the police to protect Mar-a-Lago. The County is majority Democratic (we voted against Trump) which may be one of the reasons we are getting screwed over.

      • JDS

I hope they do pull the rug on local police protection for this ShitGibbon. Palm Beach County is getting really tired of his shit.

    Oh, dear:

A Donald Trump supporter who allegedly assaulted a young woman during a campaign rally last year is claiming the president is to blame in his response to a lawsuit against him.

Alvin Bamberger, 75, who is accused of shoving protester Kashiya Nwanguma at a Louisville, Kentucky, rally on March 1, 2016, alleges in a cross claim filed Friday that he would not have touched the woman had then-candidate Trump not urged his supporters to remove protesters from the venue.

“Bamberger had no prior intention to act as he did,” reads the response to the suit filed in U.S. District Court for Western Kentucky. “Bamberger would not have acted as he did without Trump and/or the Trump Campaign’s specific urging and inspiration.”

Ummm, maybe he should fire his lawyer.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

Maybe he should just compensate the victim of his violent attack.

    • Donald’s attorneys are trying to claim he has full immunity from all civil lawsuits while President.

Clinton v. Jones (SCOTUS, 1997) says differently.

      1. Incident took place before Donald took the oath of office? Check.
      2. Incident in no way related to the performance of duties in the role of President? Check — running for the office isn’t the same as having it or doing Presidential stuff.

Worth noting that Bamberger isn’t denying his own culpability. He’s just saying he was urged to violence by the man at the microphone. When you urge someone else to commit a crime, especially in your own name, that’s what’s known as incitement.

If I urge you to pick up a rock, lob it through a store window, and take stuff, and you do it, that would make me a participant in the crime. With Donald, he was all but ordering his supporters to rough up protesters, and there’s certainly enough video evidence of him bitching and moaning how in the good old days, people would be carried out on stretchers — establishing desire and intent, even when lacking total specificity.

In any case, there are a number of civil suits still filed against Donald from both before and after he assumed office. None of ’em are gonna be dismissed on presidential immunity grounds.

Makes it hard to respect the office.

    • Blake J Butler

She associated with people that want to discriminate against us joyfully and secretly want us gone from the earth.

She alienated herself, putting ideology before the LGBT community. She supports cuts to social programs that gay and trans people benefit from, all Caitlyn sees is “waste” while others see help.

Not everyone who is LGBT has millions of dollars at their disposal to fully transition, have a designer wardrobe, and top of the line hair and makeup.

She is simply out of touch, she cares only about Caitlyn.

If Ellen did anything, she helped show the world exactly what she is, a disgrace to the LGBT community.

    • TimCA

Oh please. The harshest thing I’ve ever heard Ellen DeGeneres say about Jenner was during an interview with Howard Stern a year or so ago. Ellen wasn’t being remotely out of line in the least. • O/T: This is a bot and how they work on Twitter. Seem almost lifelike, no? Highly followed twitter and FB feeds will attract a bunch of these bots.
    https://twitter.com/ACLU/status/853672747851030529

    • SoCalGal20

Yeah, I saw some people I follow tweeting about some other suspected bot. It was saying protests like the Tax March are ineffective, etc. Basically meant to divide and discourage people.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

ACLU needs to do more reveals like this.

        • SoCalGal20

The ACLU and others. People need to know what bot messages look like.

      • Yeah… I’m pretty ruthless in keeping my follower list small and I block anyone who even seems vaguely trollish or bot-ish. I see the ‘follow’ notification and I *will* go look at posting history.

Last one I booted was someone who registered just last month and had a bazillion followings and only slightly less follows. The one before that, a little longer history but their timeline was nothing but hundreds, perhaps thousands of retweets every day, and not a single tweet themselves, not even to add a comment to the RT.

That said, anybody here in JMG who wants me to follow them, best to just let me know here.

    • SoCalGal20

Here’s another bot (and probably most of the others with similar messages).

      https://twitter.com/roan_onhorton/status/853761910197669888

      • Cuberly

I’m quite sure a good 40%+ of the commenters on Breitbart are bots.

Whenever I go to a site and all comment posts follow a single thread vs branching off, as with most comment strings, I say BOT. Then there’s the fact that most of Breitbart commenters are newer accounts, or accounts that suddenly become active after months of no activity. If a breitbart comment account has fewer than 2k posts, I say bot.

It’s much easier to program an initial response then let the bot go. Compared to branching threads with multiple branches. That would entail a bot programer actively engineering that.

BTW-they’ve been caught in the past using bots to inflate their website hits.

        • SoCalGal20

          No surprise there!

        • There are ‘bots — truly automated or semi-automated programs which simply repeat certain things. For example, many of the acc’ts on Twitter which just keep retweeting stuff (to boost its visibility and therefore attract more human eyeballs) are automated.

More sophisticated ones take a given news URL — let’s say some pro-Trump BS being posted somewhere — and just post it a whole bunch of times, but with different click-baity intro sentences.

This here is a pretty decent twitter bot detector:
          https://truthy.indiana.edu/botornot/

It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s pretty good. That Jester fellow has his own ‘Internet AWACS’ program which is also good at figuring out not only whether something is a bot, what the poster’s political leanings and attitudes are.

Another practice some use in a more ‘manual’ setting are sockpuppet accounts. That ACLU thread I posted above *could* be just one guy with one legit acc’t and two sock-puppets…however, if he’s doing what he’s doing, that’s in violation of the ‘Verified’ account rules on Twitter.

And then of course there are just simply swarms of trolls looking to cause trouble and dissent and strife. One mistake many people make now that we know there are ‘bots out there is to assume that everyone with a dissenting opinion must be a bot. They sometimes aren’t. Or a troll…again, sometimes it’s just they don’t agree.

Yes, both Twitter and Facebook are invested with ‘bots. But also trolls. And also sock puppets. And sometimes it’s just people with different opinions.

Now we’re seeing more of why China knows they’re metaphorically pantsing Donald every single day — including during President Xi’s visit. He got Donald to back down on the “China is a currency manipulator” thing — a cornerstone of his lame-ass campaign of xenophobia — in exchange for absolutely nothing. Xi managed to convince Donald they’d help deal with the North Korea problem.

And it turns out a good reason there is a NK problem is because China’s tech companies are helping them with missile technology.

For those familiar with Talibaptist assholes, Arkansas state Senator Jason Rapert has a official opponent for his 2018 state senate seat. Basically she’s the antithesis of Rapert Ironically she’s a psychological examiner.

Maureen Skinner is a psychological examiner campaigning for Jason Rapert’s Senate seat in the 35th district.

She also said she wants to expand opportunities for public schools. Skinner said she also would like to provide “equal protection” for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, intersex and asexual — and make sure Arkansans have the necessary healthcare through the state’s Medicaid expansion.

Did he bother to put any money in the collection plate…or at least manage to pass it along without swiping any?

    • JCF

Sorry, too many anonymous “sources said” for me to get excited about this.

      • -M-

That’s wise. Patribotics is Louise Mensch (sp?). She seems enthusiastically anti-Trump, but I don’t know how reliable her many many assertions are.

Now lets shove the poor, the minorities, and everyone who doesn’t like us into the ovens.

Ryan: “And remember, when Jesus was placed in the tomb, and before he went to heaven he said, “fuck ya’ll, if you snooze you loose. Compassion is for pussies. ”

      PRAISE!

    • He also claimed it was a universal Christian belief, that Jesus resurrected from the dead. About 1/4 of all Christians don’t believe this literally happened.

While there are some popular sects which require belief in the resurrection — like the Catholics, for instance, (1) it’s still not universal even there, and (2) there are sects which don’t have that as a dogma.

Silly Becca, those aren’t real Christians…

He does know Jesus cared about helping the poor right?

If someone has to lie, cheat, steal and suppress to win, their message is shit.

  • Blake J Butler

I don’t imagine it was very far off from being true, i imagine someone has to tell him what is what every single day. I used to think it was KAC to do so based on how haggard she looked, but then i assumed it was just another handlers job as KAC always looks like shit regardless of her position in the administration so that theory would be moot.

These days alone, I generated close to $36,000 until now with no more than my home computer as well as some spare time, despite that i have a fulltime 9 to 5 job. Even everyone not used to this, can make $89/per h easily and the earnings can go even higher over time… This is how i started

  • whew. gooood morning, JoeMyGod! well, that was a lot of fun. haven’t done anything like that since Chicago. i’m being sarcastic about the fun part, as much of my evening last night was in the line of sight of some angry people. and i do mean “line of sight,” as in weapons. i learned a lot about a person i respect and care about, is the upside. and some other people that i did not know well but now sort of do. a life of adventure, sailor, that’s the one for me!

i’m too old for this shit, i swear.

I’m a little surprised the church building wasn’t destroyed by massive lightning strikes or fire and brimstone.

  • Charlie In SF

Well, that’s the problem when you give your religion a tagline, “The Episcopal Church Welcomes You!”, sometimes unsavory people take us up on our offer. Hopefully, he listened to the readings and prayers and the sermon didn’t drone on to much.

    • JCF

I’d say “hopefully, the sermon CALLED DRUMP OUT on his sinful @ss”, but being it’s THIS tone-y parish (where the rich, ala John Lennon’s joke, “just rattle their jewelry”), I don’t have too much hope for that…

  • Bob

I don’t get it. We blast politicians for going to church or espousing Christian values … then we go after Trump for not regularly going to church?

What the hell is our message and what the hell are we saying?

    • JCF

      Drumpf is a hypocrite.

  • CatCope

I haven’t heard. Is this church still standing??
