Showtime Debuts Trailer For Assange Doc [VIDEO]

From Showtime:

Showtime Documentary Films will release RISK, the latest documentary from Academy Award winner Laura Poitras (CITIZENFOUR). Filmed over six years including through the 2016 presidential election and up to the present moment, RISK takes viewers closer than they have ever been before to Julian Assange and those who surround him.

With unprecedented access, Poitras give us the WikiLeaks story from the inside, allowing viewers to understand our current era of massive leaks, headline-grabbing news, and the revolutionary impact of the internet on global politics.

RISK is a portrait of power, principles, betrayal, and sacrifice when the stakes could not be any higher. It is a first-person geopolitical thriller told from the perspective of a filmmaker immersed in the worlds of state surveillance and the cypherpunk movement.

RISK confirms Poitras’ directorial ability to record history as it unfolds on camera, and craft narratives at the highest level. Showtime Networks has partnered with NEON to release RISK theatrically nationwide, with a television premiere on SHOWTIME this summer.

      • Michael R

I would rather watch this watching all of that ….

        • another_steve

I would rather just watch the hole in the ceiling, actually.

          • Dejerrity Mycron

I’d rather be the only gay man on a Greek freighter.

Seriously, I would. In a heartbeat.

          • another_steve

What? One gay guy for all those horny straight Greeks?

            Make room.

            Room for one more, honey…

When they film his perp walk into FBI custody, let me know. That I’ll watch.

    • another_steve

      Thank you.

I hate seeing these criminals being cloaked with celebrity status.

“Laura Poitras skirts safely around Julian Assange in gripping documentary. Contains some electrifying moments despite its lack of objectivity”
    The Guardian

    • pch1013

In other words, it says nothing about his pivotal role in handing the White House to a fellow member of the He-Man Woman Haters’ Club.

  • Michael

Should be good. He totally f*cked Clinton, didn’t he?

Guess Clinton couldn’t piss off as many people as she thought.

  • safari

I’m not in the mood for propaganda at the moment. I’m having enough time with regular news.

  • Ernest Endevor

Given the levels of narcissism on the part of Poitras in the Snowden film I think I’ll watch re-runs of Two and a Half Men instead.

  • Boreal

I’ll be too busy clipping my toenails to watch.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Don’t get any in your eye!!

Also, [exaggerated eye roll] BIG thanks for changing your name AND now your avatar.

      • Boreal

I changed the name a while back. This avatar is just for the Yeaster holiday.

        • Lumpy Gaga

I know. I’ve been relying on le renard bleu.

          • Boreal

            He’ll be resurrected.

    • safari

I’d love to hear the direction for that shot.

    • another_steve

Love how the ladies get the pink ones and the guys get the blue ones. No gender role enforcement there, nope.

(The scene sort of reminds me of some weird religious cult, actually.)

      • Dejerrity Mycron

Satanic worship has changed since my day.

    • lattebud

Whatever they have in those cups, I want some!!

    • The_Wretched

When I go camping, I dont often don’t value my need to be able to walk on uneven terrain in the dark. But when I really want a challenge, I wear a snuggie to do it.

      • Bob Conti

It’s that run out to the latrine that makes it all the more interesting.

    • Bob Conti

I’ve always wondered, what in hell are they drinking and where can I get some?

  • kcken

Any word on who will play the young girl he raped ?

Just kidding, I don’t care, I don’t plan on watching this crap.

  • Keppler2

Sounds like a puff piece designed to remind Trump of services rendered and to convince him to canonize poor little Julian prior to sainthood. I like Poitras a lot, and would hate to see her embarrass herself, so I think I’ll pass.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Did I really just see the word ‘principles’ in a paragraph about Julian “Rape is fun” Assange?

This isn’t going to be a critical look at Wikileaks, it’s going to be a fawning blow job.

  • Ish

That thing when a “liberal” community falls in love with the state security apparatus and forgets who its friends and enemies are. What the fuck happened to the readers of this blog? 8 years of a Democrat giving the gay community a reach around while actually bolstering the agencies of state secrecy and repression and preparing a disturbing toolbox of repressive measures for his successor to use and suddenly you people are on the side of the cockroaches scurrying around when a little light is shined on them.

You should be thanking Poitras, Snowden and Wikileaks for doing the important work.

  • JCF

“RISK is a portrait of power, principles, betrayal, and sacrifice”

Putin’s power and principles, Assange’s betrayal, democracy’s sacrifice.
