PHILADELPHIA: NOM’s Anti-Trans Hate Bus Met With Eggs And Smoke Bombs, Cops Intervene [VIDEO]

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

A peaceful rally in support of transgender people turned into a disruptive protest in Center City at about noon Saturday when an orange bus bearing anti-transgender messages on it — “Boys are boys… and always will be” and “Girls are girls… and always will be” — rolled around onto the north side of City Hall.

The transgender-rights supporters expected the bus to arrive sometime Saturday but didn’t know what time it was going to show up. Backed by conservative groups, the bus had been touring East Coast cities for the past couple of weeks.

In anticipation of the bus, the city’s Office of LGBT Affairs and other groups organized a “Pop-Up Love Party” on the north apron of City Hall from 11 a.m. to noon, during which supporters of the transgender community spoke, around 100 people gathered in support, and a light-blue-pink-and-white-striped transgender-pride flag was hoisted up on a flagpole at the end of the event. The flag will remain there for the weekend.

Moments after the speakers finished, the bus turned the corner and appeared. “There it is!” one person shouted. Swarms of people then ran toward the bus. A person banged on a drum. Eggs were thrown, hitting the bus. At least two smoke bombs were set off.

Local activists blame anarchists for crashing the protest and causing the police to intervene. As the melee heightened, Philly cops boarded the bus to give the driver directions to the closest freeway out of town. The driver complied. The video below was posted to NOM’s YouTube channel.

Well boo fucking hoo. I guess NOM didn’t pray to its God hard enough to protect it from protestors.

And all you concern trolls can go fuck off. NOM wants to torture children and drive them to suicide, not to mention roll back LBGT rights.

And all they have to deal with are eggs and smoke bombs.

NOM can go kill itself for all I care.

All I ask is they YouTube it.

    • gaymex1

My sentiments as well. They’re lucky it was eggs and smoke bombs. Chechnya is on my mind. NOM would celebrate our massacre.

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

I had a hen hatch out chicks. But 3 eggs were sterile.
        3 weeks …@ nearly 100 degrees….
        Handle with care!

        • gaymex1

lol. They can almost explode on their own when a clumsy hen returns to the nest and is careless with where she steps. Rank beyond belief.

      • Paula

I know. It was just some eggs and smoke. Its not like they were firebombed or someone went onto the bus and shot everyone. They are being persecuted for their x-tianity. WAAAAAAAHHHH!

        • gaymex1

When I was a young lad in the rural South, these were simple Halloween pranks–along with flaming bags of cow poop.

    • LovesIrony

      Winning is so fun maggie

    • Richard, another Canuck

Is an egg considered free speech?

      • Lumpy Gaga

        Only if it’s white.

And the yoke is on them.

          • 2guysnamedjoe

Fuck ’em if they can’t take a yolk.

      • gaymex1

lol. It’s a perfect message for the chickens hiding in the bigotry bus.

      • stevenj

Only if it were hatched by corporate hens.

      • Todd20036

Only if they’re used against chickens.

      • gaymex1

I realize tossing an egg is aborting a potential life, but I didn’t want to take care of the chick anyway.

      • perversatile

At 88¢ a dozen it might as well be.

    • vorpal

At this point, I suspect NOM is Brian Brown with a computer running Windows 98.

Their financial situation was analyzed on another LGBT rights website, SlowlyBoiledFrog, and shown to be very grim indeed.

      • bkmn

Their donor base continues to die off. Too bad it can’t happen sooner.

        • vorpal

Also, at some point, donors expect results.

The only result they’ve achieved is affording Brian Brown the money to have eight children.

          • Don’t limit him – he’s way behind the Duggards.

      • agcons

The news about their financial situation fills me with delight.

    • Goodboy

Seems your comment created lots of butthurt with the concern trolls. 6 down votes already.

      • Todd20036

I no longer care. I’m done with the turn the other cheek crap and the “we are better people than that”. Great. We get to hold our heads high as they march us into the reeducation camps.

Concern trolls are ALWAYS people in blue areas and wealthy bank accounts who never have to worry about being subjected to the discrimination lots of others do

        • bkmn

Don’t forget the bots that Putin pays to sow discord.

        • AC

Yes, Todd20036! Thank goodness that we can group people together by our perception of their intention, and from that know with certitude their circumstances.

        • They do have to worry when they get caught with a same sex young underaged boy at a hotel.

    • PickyPecker

I’m with you, Todd. Really…….two smoke bombs and some eggs? We used to do much more than that at Halloween. If that’s considered ‘violence’ by the bigots……that makes me laugh. Own it, snowflakes.

  • Ben in Oakland

““Boys are boys… and always will be” and “Girls are girls… and always will be”

And trans kids are trans kids and always will be. and gay kids are gay kids and always will be.

But bigots? They’re not born that way and don’t have to stay that way. There is a cure: compassion instead of condemnatio9n, respect instead of despite, education instead of ignorance.

  • david fairfield

I keep hearing how we shouldn’t do this kind of thing because the response from the xtian nutbags will be “see how they are?” But since they hate us anyway and we have zero chance of them saying something agreeable about us, what do we have to lose? Being the “better” person and letting them drive their hate bus around while saying nothing is not an option. They hate us, want us DEAD. So eggs and smoke bombs are the least we should be doing. How about indelible paint? Not just eggs, ROTTEN eggs. (so the stench on the outside is as vile as it is on the inside…..)

    • another_steve

What we have to lose is that in descending into their pit, we become as they are.

      We must not do that.

We are better than they are.

      • gaymex1

Steve, the pit we will be descending into is the one they have dug to bury us in. Nice doesn’t work.

        • another_steve

Nonviolent protest is the way to go. Yell, scream, curse. But no violence.

Violence is their way, not ours.

          • david fairfield

That won’t make the news, Steve. I would venture to say most people are not aware that there are buses traveling around demoralizing lgbt’s. With a story like this actually making the news, no matter how it is spun, will surely have people saying “wait….there’s an anti lgbt bus driving around?” Also nobody is harmed by smoke bombs or eggs.

          • JWC

I know I was citing an example of Passive resistance

          • Gandhi led a huge Salt March…it was so big that it could not be ignored by the British. The end of the march was symbolic as he took salt from the sea. We need a huge march and then symbols – The United Nations Freedoms and Rights Charter – The Constitution. A big march with candles….readings from both…..readings of Jesus. (Do not judge, love one another). I still remember the Aids Quilt….Make it so huge that Trump will go on a twitter rage. In the candle glow…read out the names of victims of gay suicide…victims of murdered gays, transgendered persons….have their photos. I remember an Oprah Show where men showed pictures of themselves when they were abused as kids by priests.

          • JWC

There should be marches and rallies each weekend if not then Montly in every city and town in the US and Globally if Trumps plans hurt them The Orange Shitgibbon won’t notice but the GOP who want back in in 2 years will

          • olandp

Then they will just complain that the yelling and screaming is trying to silence their message of “compassion”, just like they did on their first hate bus tour.

The cursing, well that would be just plain rude./s

          • another_steve

Fuck them and what they think and complain about. They’re irrelevant. Dinosaurs.

            Eye on the prize.

            Slow and steady movement forward.

          • david fairfield

Exactly. If we were to politely stand there and watch the bus go by they would complain that we are mocking them. Nothing resembling nice will work. Eggs and smoke bombs are not “violence”.

          • gaymex1

Steve. I stand on the edge of a pit. Someone is threatening to push. My last act will be to turn around and give them a good old-fashioned christian hug as I jump with them in my embrace. Chechnya Never. I am proud of the folks who fight back.

          • This is self-defence and I agree with you. I think we need to educate. For example, why do we not have ads that state, “In March 2016, the World Psychiatric Association, a scientific body of 182 nations wrote to the U.N and world leaders that homosexuality cannot be reversed and it NOT a choice.” Run this commercial. Not only must we march, we may have to dig into our pockets. Use these words on banners. Get CNN, Rachel and others to bring on scientists this matter. Keep putting out the word.

          • gaymex1

Good idea to spread the word, but whatever we say will always be said to be alternative facts.
I agree though. We must persist.

        • TuuxKabin

Some would rather sit back and sip their gallon of beefeaters martinis, kinda “I got mine . . . “

          • We all have to put the gin down….we owe it to one another. March and protest and then go back and have the well deserved gin. LOL

        • vorpal

While I agree that nice doesn’t work, I like to visit their joyless little forums online where all they can do is wallow in the misery of how hideous society is (even when they get their way) and predict doom and gloom.

Then when they tell me that I’m doing life wrong, I remind them that my existence is generally full of a lot of happiness, optimism, and mirth, so “wrong” is working out pretty well for me.

          • gaymex1

I like to visit those forums as well. They really do wallow in self-pity. I’m happy too…just tired of their shit. I’m of the age now that what’s important to me is to see that gay youngsters have a good chance at openly expressing their happiness without these bigots making those lives miserable. Scraps from the table just don’t make it.
They would kill us. I’ll fight back where I can, however I can.

          • The problem is the right’s concept of God. Deepok Chopra has a good book on it. If you see God as a vengeful judgement being – then life is miserable.

          • vorpal

Yes, I imagine that that’s definitely the case. These people don’t see the “good Jesus”… they see the angry Jesus that was flipping over tables and chasing money lenders out of the temple.

I always thought spirituality should be uplifting if you’re doing it right. Watching someone like Pastor Steve Anderson rant and rave and scream about gay people and how we should all be rounded up and killed to “cure the world of AIDS” for a solid hour cannot possibly be uplifting to anyone.

        • I still remember Schindler’s List. Right up until the end, many Jews believed the lies. The Nazis even had them tie their shoes together so that they would be nice and orderly after the “showers.” The uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto was too late. That violence I support – when an entire race is being wiped out.

          • gaymex1

We all need to remember this.

      • david fairfield

That’s what we have been doing. They are trampling us. We have to fight back, let folks know we won’t take their shit anymore. Otherwise we sit back and give permission to advertise hate. To drive a bus around that stigmatizes gay youth, frightens them from coming out or having hope. Why not then just drive around a bus that advertises lynching black people or putting Jews in camps? Where does it end if we don’t bring attention to what they are doing?

        • another_steve

I don’t think they’re trampling us. We’re winning. This Trump horror is a temporary setback.

The Way of Things — what Philosophical Daoists call the Dao — is toward beneficence.

          • olandp

We have to make sure that “This Trump horror is a temporary setback.”

          • another_steve

Absolutely. We need to regroup and reorganize. The Democratic Party needs to reinvent itself.

Hillary Clinton ran a campaign of the past, and she and we lost.

          • Goodboy

She won the election though. No matter what kind of campaign she ran it makes no difference with a rigged election.

          • david fairfield

The setbacks are many and ongoing. Six lgbt protections have been removed in 70 days plus we have been erased from the census, like we don’t exist. We are being trampled. Pence and Bannon and even Ryan want nothing less than to take away EVERYTHING that has been won over the past few years. Sessions has already stated he intends to take away all spousal benefits for same sex married couples. We are not winning. The Trump horror is just helping to hide the things they are doing deliberately and summarily to demean us in every way possible.

          • stevenj

“The setbacks are many and ongoing.”

Throughout my entire lifetime. 6 decades +.

          • another_steve

Trump’s anti-LGBT actions-to-date have consisted of repealing President Obama’s pro-LGBT Executive Orders and instituting his own anti-LGBT orders. In the fullness of time, the latter will also be repealed.

The Supreme Court is a big worry, for sure.

All progressive eyes must be on the Supreme Court, the Big Kahuna that will outlast the presidency of the sexual predator.

          • We need big marches again and on Washington, DC The recent Women’s March sent a clear message, so did the Town Hall Meetings. However, people forget….We have to keep doing it.

      • ralphb

Have to disagree here. There are times when it makes sense to play nice, but Stonewall and ACT-UP have taught us that when you’re really pushed up against the wall, sometimes the best thing you can do is fight back. We are, unfortunately, living in times that require a forceful, loud, technicolor response. Beige simply won’t do. Wish it were otherwise bit it ain’t.

        • BobSF_94117

You think a pathetic bus driving around from city to city in any way compares to the systematic oppression of the 1950s and 60s?

          • Friday

When it’s a deliberate provocation and hate-message, it’s actually part and parcel of that sort of thing.

          • Looking at the images on the bus plus words – I do not wish to see ONE human (especially not kids) have that type of HELL.

          • Friday

I don’t know what you mean exactly, but no, they shouldn’t put kids through hell just for being trans. No amount of suppressing them makes them not-trans, though. In fact suppression is counterproductive even when a gender-nonconforming kid *isn’t* trans.

          • BobSF_94117

Just remember that when our opposition justifies violence against a peaceful group of gay people because “they’re part and parcel” of something they’re not.

          • Ray Taylor

            I grew up in the 50’s and I was scared shitless. I was a real… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c9757006febd5d8578d9b1a544014b085da0dd7e3192015e432f4dba40515cc6.jpg
I don’t wish that on any kid evermore. It was pure HELL.

          • stevenj

NOM and it’s pathetic bus are a symbol of that systematic oppression. But it sure didn’t stop after the 50’s and 60’s.

          • BobSF_94117

The comparison was to Stonewall. That’s why I mentioned the period that led up to it.

          • stevenj

Oh, you didn’t actually mention Stonewall so I didn’t pick up on your intent.
From my point of view the systemic oppression didn’t stop after Stonewall. But I see what you mean because it was so engrained socially before the 70’s.

          • BobSF_94117

Ralphb said “but Stonewall and ACT-UP have taught us that when you’re really pushed
up against the wall, sometimes the best thing you can do is fight back.” I just don’t see how a NOM bus pushes us up against anything but bad graphic design. Stonewall, while including some violence, stood out in the late 60s for how non-violent it was, compared to other riots and ACT UP wasn’t violent, at least as far as I recall. It was disruptive.

          • I would love to have that driver interviewed. Either he is a “willing to die” for Christ or someone being paid ‘danger money.’

        • another_steve

I’m all for fighting back. During our activist years, I and my husband did quite a bit of it actually. He’s still into it more than I — so when I’m here, typing away in my underwear, he’s out there organizing.

But never violence. Never the destruction of property or the harming of human beings.

Violence is the way of the enemy, and I’m opposed to it.

          • ralphb

Not talking about violence against human beings, but smokebombs and eggs and shouting and a bit of street theater are surely acceptable? The bus is emblematic of a hatred in this country that runs bone deep, and not just for our family. You can only push people so far before they push back. The quicker we show a response that isn’t out of Donna Reed-ville, the better.

          • another_steve

I’m a free speech near-absolutist (with the obvious “yelling ‘fire’ in a movie theater” exception). There’s no obscenity that I wouldn’t shout at these monsters.

Lie down in front of their buses. Cordon off their entrance to places.

But no destruction of person or property.

          • I think from these comments – most of us think that way.

          • Todd20036

Smoke bombs and eggs son. Don’t overthink it.

          • another_steve

If someone throws an egg at a gay community center, is that okay with you, Todd?

          • Lumpy Gaga

Don’t bring flaming patchouli to a bus fight.

          • David Milley

Trans people get murdered because of the kind of “free speech” exercised by NOM. It _is_ a form of yelling “fire” in a movie theater. Eggs and smoke pale by comparison.

          • another_steve

The problem with restricting or outlawing “murderous speech,” David, is that it’s an “eye of the beholder” thing.

If and when Franklin Graham, Tony Perkins and Bill Donohue take over, your and my speech on this blog will be considered “murderous.”

          • David Milley

Nope. False equivalency. Approving of egging a bus advocating erasure of a segment of society is not murderous. We must not write their narrative for them.

          • We have to think of the figures that represent human beings…and the words as well. Advertising sells, but we will not buy it. We owe it to these images that are human to protest and protest loud and clear.

      • perversatile

We are in absolutely no way diminished by defending ourselves against those who would commit violence against us. Any individual who wakes up in the morning and doesn’t go on a big hate-bator orange bus tour is already better than they are.

      • Look, I was cheering when Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high!” This is how I wish to live, but….look what happened to her husband just months after that statement. Trump accused him of wire-tapping. These people go low, so low that they enter the non-human pit of ignorance and hate. If this hatred is not challenged then the impact on LGBTI persons is life-threatening: suicide, physical violence or even murder. I advocate protests…egging is fine with me. Physical violence only in self-defence.

        • another_steve

Re the egging thing, I’ll ask you the same thing I just asked commenter Todd:

If the monsters threw eggs at a gay community center, would that be okay with you?

          A “valid” form of speech/protest?

      • vorpal

I recall the two flygirls who lived next to me out in Long Beach. Week after week the door-to-door Jeebus freaks would come by – and week anfter week they politely told the freaks they weren’t interested. Then, on one particular sunday, one of the flygirls was watering out in the front – and here comes the jeebus freaks. She let them do their spiel – then she turned the hose on them. And that was the last time Jeebus made a PR house call there.

I tend to agree with them. I’ve done the nice. I’ve done the politically correct – and still they come to shit on my dignity. Uh-uh. Ain’t gonna happen no more. And while I won’t be pulling a gun, or swinging a knife – I will soak and sully their hate right back down the sidewalk.

      • david fairfield

        Perfect!

Back when I lived in Ottawa, the pride parade was a small but fun event and open to anyone. The last float was always a bunch of anti-LGBT Christian nutjobs yelling condemnation and carrying signs with the usual biblical Levitical garbage on them.

Lots of us would bring water guns and blast them quite thoroughly.
By the end of the parade, they were sopping wet and a lot less loud, and their cheap cardboard signs were not looking too good.

      • Jeffg166

My husband had the same problem when he was young. Every Saturday morning the Jehovah Witness would show up at his apartment building and ring bells. He’d get up out of bed and go answer for reasons unknown to me. After several weeks of this when he answered the door and listen to them his robe fell open. He didn’t bother to close it. He slept nude. They never came back.

        • stuckinthewoods

Happened here too before we put up a gate. I’d been polite to some JWs and they returned. I was coming out of the shower, crossed the hall, and there they were at the screen door, so just went and answered it. Gone.

      • Ninja0980

That is the only way to deal with them sometimes.

They have decided their world view, and seek to oppose it on reality.
A sane person looks at reality and from that, forms a world view.

They also think they know better than us how we should live our lives, and think that their attempts to shame us and pass laws to make our lives more difficult so that they can achieve the uniform society they so desperately crave is somehow loving.

And yet, according to them, WE are the ones with the perverted and twisted idea of what love is.

      Far-right Christians do everything backwards.

      • Far-right Christians only read (but don’t fully understand) the Bible and literature that supports hatred. They will not read both sides of ANY issue. They will never read scientific research on any topic – hence gross ignorance and additional hatred.

        • vorpal

Well, that’s because science and reality are clearly liberal conspiracies. /s

    • Friday

The Christians will just make shit up anyway.

    • Remind these hateful and narrow minded Christians, that even Jesus lost his temper. I refer to him taking a whip to the money-changers and overturning their tables. The Jewish religion at that time required that an offering of an animal be made so that the priests could take away sins. For example, a poor couple who just had a baby was required to bring the “unclean” mother to the priests. These money changers (read Trump and his ilk today) overcharged for even the least bird. The family had to have the woman cleansed from childbirth..otherwise, they would be an unclean family and the husband would not be able to have sex with his wife. Seeing the injustice that was attached to religion – Jesus was angered.

      • Adam King

The temple grounds were the size of a football field and the booths full of money were very heavily guarded. It would have taken a small army to occupy that area, fight the guards and turn over the tables. Non-Christian historians would absolutely have taken notice since it would have been a unique, dramatic, economically and politically important event. If it were just one dude acting out, he would have been killed or at least arrested and tried for that. In short, it never happened. More made-up Christian lies.

LOL this made me laugh, and reminded me of a conversation I had over the last few days with a hypocritical douchebag over on Crisis Magazine (“for the faithful Catholic laity”).

He said that homosexuality was a particularly vicious form of homicide because not only was I murdering any hypothetical children I might have had if I wasn’t gay, I was also doing the same thing to any hypothetical children my husband might have had.

I pointed out to him then that Catholic priests with their celibacy pledges were downright serial killers, then, and he jumped through a bunch of hoops to bumble about and drum up the hypothesis that it is necessary for some people to make sacrifices to lead others to their god.

He also predictably said that gay sex is just selfish hedonistic gratification, and when I told him that sex was about much more than procreation and out of the number of sexual activities one performs in one’s life, generally the number intended to be procreative is a tiny fraction of that.

I compared sex to food, stating that while the primary purpose of food is nutrition, we don’t always eat optimally and we get a great deal of pleasure from food and sharing meals helps us to bond with others.

He said that he actively disdained this and that food SHOULD just be about nutrition and it is shameful to indulge hedonism and make it about other things, and that every sexual encounter SHOULD be with the intention of procreation.

His Disqus username is his real name, so I did a quick facebook search and his profile came up at the top.

He is probably in his 50s, only has one son despite being married for many years, and I’m guessing (seriously) weighs about 400 lbs.

In other words, the perfect example of a hypoChristian.

          • Todd20036

The food analogy probably cut him more than you realized, given the fact that he probably ate enough for about 5 people during his lifetime.

His life is one of denial and restriction– except for vast quantities of food which, being consumed by him, are prevented from getting to the poor people that Jesus wants us to feed.
He wants you to suffer the same, hoping to please his god with your sacrifice, as he has done.
I try not to get into lengthy conversations with such as those.

He probably looks at that he is doing God’s work by eating that food, thus being the instrument of God for having the hungry suffer, or some horseshit like that. They have mastered this crap in over 2000 years. They can spin anything. Look at the child rapist cult church and their people bling the victims. We have heard that line from Bishops, etc. many times.

Mother Teresa was the same way. She and her group let people suffer from curable diseases to bring them to her god while she and her group would fly back to Europe for their treatments. She and her tribe were told about not reusing needles (how stupid could they be?) Or not sanitizing equipment correctly, and yet they ignored all that. She should have been in jail for this alone.

          • Ben in Oakland

My experience in line at 67 is that religion is just like everything else. For some people, it makes their lives better, and them better people. For others, it just makes them worse. The biggest problem with religion, to my mind, is that it puts the imprimatur of GAWD on all kinds of nonsense, and all kinds of harm.

I think in general that religion is not what ennobles mankind, but what prevents us from advancing as a species.

          • Acronym Jim

He doesn’t eat for the pleasure of it; he eats to dull his pain.

And by his logic, he and his wife only had sex a few times and then stopped when she got pregnant.

          • Guest

Dan savage tells a funny story of finding out as an adult that when his mom was pregnant with him, she and his dad were still having full on intercourse up through his last two weeks in her. He was joking that this made him gay, since he aquired a taste for cum, floating in it.

Actually there is some data about the more sons a woman has, the higher likely hood the younger sons will be gay. Who knows as I am the oldest and definitely gay, gay, gay. Else we have a problem, given the rather high, high, high number of gorgeous ass cherries I have busted over the years.

“Ummm… feeling good is bad, mmmmkay?”

          • As always, slut shaming from someone just jealous that he ain’t gettin’ any.

          • I’m amazed at how many Christians are unaware of the gayby boom. Since the 90s (well actually before that but the 90s is when it really took off) gay people have been having babies. Gay men sometimes hire surrogates but all the Lesbians need is a little sperm and we dudes have plenty of that to spare. It doesn’t even require a trip to Home Depot or anything. Seriously, are people not aware of this? Some of those kids are in college by now!!!

            Also…

“He also predictably said that gay sex is just selfish hedonistic gratification…”

Well, only if you do it right!

Just because they’re not going to listen to you and will hear only what they want to, doesn’t mean that others reading the discussion won’t hear you as well.

Disrupting an echo chamber in a way that is hopefully calm and rational will not only expose the insanity of some in the echo chamber, but possibly encourage others to think a bit more critically.

And even if not, the insanity is at least good for a few laughs.

          • j.martindale

What is so great about more children? How is that an obvious good. Mind you, I have two by my first marriage, and six grandkids, and I don’t have a particular disdain for child bearing. But there are gabillions of people polluting the world and killing off all other forms of life, and contributing to the potential destruction of our species.

Further, you murder no one by refraining from child bearing. What a bizarre assertion. What’s more, LGBT people are fully capable of having children, just not necessarily in the same fashion, acrobatically speaking.

And what is so bad about self-gratification? Is being miserable a wonderful thing? (That last question is rhetorical. I am an ex-Catholic, so have a pretty good idea what they think the right answer would be for that.)

They need to know now that if they think they can do that and we’ll roll over for them, that they are badly mistaken on that front.

  • SoCalGal20

In the running for today’s most idiotic tweet. The comments are awesome and hilarious, though.

    https://twitter.com/bryanjfischer/status/848544088085417984

    • Dramphooey

      That shit again?

    • As I’ve replied: Christians stole the crucifix from the Romans.

If Jesus had lived in a more modern era, would they be worshiping little hangman’s nooses or electric chairs?

Imagine the reaction if he ever came back: “Hang on. Your holiest symbol is the thing they used to torture me to death?”

      • Cuberly

The laundry list of things Christianity has appropriated is too long to tally.

        • zhera

          Also, it’s very short:

          – Everything

        • Yup. Also includes every one of their arbitrary holidays that “coincidentally” were scheduled to overwrite existing holidays from other cultures.

Main reason Constantine ordered the Sabbath moved to Sunday? To appease the Roman sun-worshipers.

      • Ray Taylor

They would be worshiping the very drugs that kill.

        • grada3784

The Bible Belt already markets 2 killer drugs: Alcohol and Tobacco.

      • Paula

I’d pay to see them wearing little guillotines or someone being drawn and quartered.

      • zhera

Legs and arms in a pile after being drawn and quartered. It’s just as grotesque as the cross if you just think about it, which of course the christers never do.

      • Randy503

        A guillotine, perhaps.

      • Amanda B. Rekendwith
    • Circ09

Can’t wait until some twitter literate gives him another ancient history & common symbols lesson.

GO FUCK YOURSELF with a stick of dynamite, bryan!

    • Lumpy Gaga

Hey, if God plays his cards right….

    • Adam King

It was invented by God’s designer, the Angel of Gayness.

      • vorpal

        The Gayngel?
I think that’s (TM) the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Those noodly appendages and big meaty balls… =shivers and fans self=

        • Adam King

I think it’s probably inferior to the FSM. Maybe it’s the antipasto?

          • vorpal

Well, all I know is that the brochure promised 72 jumbo man-icottis in the boiling pots of hell when I die, and that’s all it took to convert me.

    • Bomer

And he stole it from the leprechauns.

Damn, I thought his cancer would have progressed more by now.

    • Cuberly

Bryan can never ever eat a crescent roll every again. Even on Thanksgiving. Those are reserved for Muslims only. Period!

(Seriously, this is what a supposed adult is most concerned about.)

    • Ben in Oakland

And bribri, your rainbow is a symbol of genocide. So, you knowwhat? I think we’ll put it to better sue than you have.
But if you really want it, please, come and pry it out of my cold dead hands.

      • Chucktech

If his false, dead, impotent god wants it back so badly, have Him come and get it.

    • vorpal

Ooooh… as an atheist, every breath I take is a delightful appropriation of the air that Bryan’s god supposedly created.

And despite his omnipotence, he’s too busy giving leukemia and HIV to starving children to make time to tell us this himself, so he relies on trash like Bryan Fischer to relay the message.

      TOTALLY PLAUSIBLE.

    • WitlessProtection

I love how there are so many replies to his tweet, yet I did not read ONE that was supportive of him. Must be because all his followers are at Church today.

    • Canadian Observer

And the correct response is: You can have the rainbow back when you pry it out of my firmly clenched butt cheeks.

      • Todd20036

I’ll make the attempt. Any problem with my using my penis instead of my hands to get it out?

        • Lumpy Gaga

I suppose that if you use your dick we can no longer call it “dexterity”. What IS the appropriate word for your talent?

          • BlueberriesForMe

            dicksterity.

          • Todd20036

            Twisted.

        • Canadian Observer

Damn, you have a prehensile penis? This could get very interesting very fast.

      • Let me guess: Bojack Horseman’s fabulously gay cousin?

    • OdieDenCO

if he created it he can un-create it. get back to me when that happens.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

I always find such sentiments beyond laughable. A supposed all powerful, omnipotent, omniscient being can’t take back that which was supposed stolen from him? What a loser. Sad.

      • SoCalGal20

It makes no sense. If they’re omnipresent, etc. ALL the things are theirs, including gays and rainbows so gays can’t “take” it. Maybe Bryan had too many mimosas at brunch.

    • BlueberriesForMe

I have a better idea. Let’s give Bryan back. We’ll pay “God” $1. A real bargain for sure.

      • Robincho

        That’d be a buck well spent. And if there’s one thing I like, it’s a spent buck… 😉

  • Cerberus

The whole reason they are doing this is they see the trans community as weak and easily brushed aside. Already we die in appalling numbers. Already we have people genuinely hemming and hawing about whether or not we have the right to shit in peace. Already it is like pulling teeth to get hired and retain a job. Already too many of us are forced into situations where we have no other options than sex work. Already too many of us are thrown out of our homes and live on the streets.

There’s a reason trans people threw the first bricks at Stonewall and Compton’s. There’s a reason that tranarchists here threw smoke bombs and eggs.

Because this is a smug tour by assholes who think we will peacefully allow hate to steamroll over us, getting the thrill of lording it over a group without power.

And we really have been left little other power than what we can throw with our own hands.

I’ve been watching a lot of “When We Rise” lately and it’s clear that our rights have never come from silently watching the villains beat and murder us, but in resistance. Non-violent against people, but angry and raw and willing to smash shit up if necessary to survive.

And given our suicide rates and the intention of this bus, I do not equivocate on the word “survive” there. This is our lives. And if we don’t fight back, we’ll continue to be washed away while everyone turns their backs and ignores it, just like they did when Milo went on his crusade against us.

So good on those folks for fighting back.

    • Lazycrockett

One of my favorite scenes in WWR was in the first episode when the bashers drove into SF to beat some fags and the fags beat the shit out of them and trashed their car. Good Times.

      • houstonray

I know the series had some critics, but I found it to be a powerful reminder of not only how we got to this point but how to make sure we never get there again…

        • Lazycrockett

My only issue was when the “celebrities” took over the adult parts. I think the kids did an amazing job with their characters.

          • Circ09

Interesting. I loved Emily Skeggs in Fun Home. But thought she was a total weak link in the TV mini-series.

      • JuanGalicia

WWR? Google is not being helpful when I type that along with movie or san Francisco :/

        • TuuxKabin

          “When We Rise”

          • gaymex1

            I need to see that.

          • TuuxKabin

Yeah, us too. Just talking about getting a flat screen and cable or what ever it takes to watch that and other feature presentations, then decided to have another PIE instead.

          • Lumpy Gaga

And what is this “PIE” of which you speak?

          • TuuxKabin

Apple. Pecan. Strawberry/rhubarb, cherry. They are individual size, about the size of drink coaster. We get ’em fresh every Thirstday and Sunday. PIE is our go to ‘can I get you anything?’

          • Bomer

I would have made those for my training class potluck if I had a better oven. Instead I made a double batch of chewy brownies (with coffee and tequila).

          • TuuxKabin

Always knew you’re a sensible young one. Chocolate, tequila and coffee, so good together. Had a bloody maria on our walk home from the farmers’ market with our load of PIE.

What are you training for? Did you score a car? Things working for you?

          • Bomer

I was able to get a car. A ’96 Mazda Protege, manual transmission, for $700 (title, insurance and all made the grand total $835). I got a job working at a call centre answering for one of those medical alert companies and have been in training classes since March 13th. Friday was our graduation potluck. I start taking live calls tomorrow.

          • TuuxKabin

Good. Glad to read that. The desert environment is usually a bit kinder on cars and gives them a longer road life, no? And congrats in getting the job.

I wasn’t on the help line at Covenant House in the mid/late 80’s but some of my co-workers who were used to repeat the learning expression, with a huge false smile on their face, “answer every call with a smile in your voice,” then do the finger down throat gag. What a nepotistic despot Fr. Bruce Ritter was.

Your other reply with the Xmas card bird/dove. I like it. Reminds me of some of the graphics on quite a few national air carriers’ tails. Good composition, IMHO, I like the image of it making an approach to landing.

I’ve been disassembling card board boxes, small packages, like cereal boxes, cracker boxes, toothpaste boxes, and the interior – cardboard – makes a decent blank canvas. I’ve been using colored pencils, felt tip pens – the ones I meant to send you, sorry – and water colors. Making small banners and flags. A couple of LGBTQ flags and abstract designs. Some remind el HubCap of stain glass windows. Today I’ll apply a coat of mod podge as a mat finish and sealant. Maybe shellac and use as place mats and drink coasters. That and stenciling a lot of protest posters for the various local rallies and demos we’ve had around the city.

It’s good news you bear, that’s good! And thanks for the info re: seeing down votes. I’m always curious.

Hope you do well, and keep on with the art work.

          • Bomer

Yes, they’ve told us to keep a pleasant tone and to “smile” when we are on a call. It’s not that hard for me since most of the jobs I’ve held involved some type of phone work. The hard part is remembering to do certain steps that we were unable to do in training since we never took calls then. Most of the calls aren’t so bad since we’re dealing with older people and they only call us to test, if they need help, or accidentally.

Hopefully when I get my own place I can really start drawing again. It’s difficult here because of lack of space and poor lighting.

          • TuuxKabin

Raining here today, what else is new?, so I’ll spread out apply the mod podge, let that dry on those four or five pieces then start designing some more patterns to be colored in. I’ve just about got matching cereal boxes , cracker boxes and Rx boxes to make a set of place mats and drink coasters. I’ll use them as house gifts to our hosts in Oregon and California this summer, if they want them. If not give ’em to a local thrift shop. This project is keeping me away from JMG, which is a good thing for now. I’ve needed a diversion for some time. And I only go to BBC/The Guardian/TheAtlantic & News of Mexico for the photo sections and ‘other worldly’ news.

Hope a place of your own happens soon!

          • Bomer

It’s been windier than all hell here lately. My poor little car keeps getting pushed all over the road. I’ve been tempted to bust out my large umbrella and see if I can do a Marry Poppins routine.

Once this week is over my work schedule will be 10pm to 6 am which will allow me to actually talk to the apartment people. I think I might have some luck getting back into the one my Gram and I were staying at before all this started. I’m going to stop by and talk with the manager next week. I’m grateful to the people I’m staying with for putting me up, but I’ll be happy to get out of this trailer. It’s only 30′ long and the ceiling clears my head by 2″ max. They want me to buy it (asking 6k) but it’s too small for me (and 3 cats!) and something is always going wrong with it. Just tonight all the built in lights decided to dim to about the strength of a night light and I haven’t had hot water for weeks.

          • TuuxKabin

Trailers, not a cent returned on investment. You’re wise to step away, graciously and with gratitude for their hospitality.

I hope the manager agrees to let you return. Is it special housing for elders and/or limited income? Hell. All our incomes are limited/fixed. Good luck with it.

            Grip that steering wheel tight.

We’re cat sitting from tomorrow morning until Monday afternoon, the down stairs neighbor’s cat, Moz, will be with us. We’re looking forward to having another life form with us. She’s like the ceiling cat, she scampers up the stairs to the roof, gets to the top, then sticks her head thru the railing posts and watches from above. She’s also a top notch mouser and we haven’t had a single one since she’s be enthroned down stairs. An excellent deterrent to the beasts.

          • Bomer

The apartment complex does have some low income units which I should qualify for since I’m only making the state min wage ($10 an hour). I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I don’t know if my three are good mousers (one was scared of squirrels) but they are good with spiders and the like, which I appreciate.

          • TuuxKabin

Hope you qualify. We used to have to watch out for scorpions, tiny, about the size of a splinter, in Mérida. Had to put shoes up off the floor and be careful when first getting out of bed. A lot of bad reactions from them. The geckos on the walls took care of spiders and mosquitoes pretty much. And the lizards in the garden appeared to keep the spiders and such at bay.

          • Bomer

I’ve had at least one run in with a tarantula and a scorpion…neither survived.

          • TuuxKabin

            It’s a Good Thing.

          • Bomer

          • gaymex1

lol. Have a great day. I’m getting ready to dive into hubby’s flan…so to speak.

          • TuuxKabin

Ay, mano. I always end up face first in flan. Lard, yes. Provecho!

          • gaymex1

I’m not sure this is legitimate flan since it also contains cream cheese, but it is delicious.
Once I was overwhelmed in Guatemala City–noise, crowds, traffic–and stopped at a flan shop and ate a whole flan to calm down. It helped. I was then able to fart when the crowds became too much, thus clearing a wee bit of personal space.

          • TuuxKabin

That’s a riot! Did you also cause one? All those eggs, whew.

          • gaymex1

I just stared at an old woman near me. Folks thought it was her. She just smiled and looked guilty.
God…I am so easily entertained…even fart jokes.

          • TuuxKabin

I know. It’s come to this/that for us. As the old joke goes, “why do farts smell? So deaf people can enjoy them too.”

            Time for that frittata.

            I hear it’s 104 down there. Whew.

          • gaymex1

Yes. It’s hot as hell. A brisk breeze only spreads the misery. The pool is 84, so I’m calling it an evening and taking the plunge. 84 will seem cold for a couple of seconds, but then…..ahhhhhh.
lol. At last an upside to being deaf.

          • TuuxKabin

The ice man, when the weather was like that, as we know for long stretches of time, came by three times a week with a fifty pound block of ice, wheel it thru the house, to the patio and tip it into the pool. Wish he’d have stuck around to enjoy the hour or so it took for it to melt. We grab the briefest opportunity to be cool, even something like Apocalypse, Mel Gibson’s horror. Only went for the in seat service and the AC. Walked out before it was half over.

            Hope you stay cool.

          • gaymex1

Ice man is a good idea. If it gets truly unbearable we’ll try that. I hopped out of the pool a few minutes ago…evaporative cooling is amazing. I was actually cold in the brisk breeze, so I took a hot shower. Feels great now.
It’s a beautiful night…looking up through the cocos and royals at the bright moon with the stars just starting to poke through the thin clouds. I appreciate life and I want the same for everyone else. For a few minutes I am far from the hate-filled news that drives us all crazy.
            Have a peaceful night.

          • TuuxKabin

Good morning at dark o’clock in the morning from the blue bubble big apple. Rotten to the core. I remember the thrill of that first bit of chill and shiver in the breeze on those hot nights, getting out of the pool. We’re on a forecast of 50’s and 60’s this week. Woo woo! Stay cool.

I made the mistake, daily, of turning on the radio to the BBC news during the morning ablutions. Gawd and sweet lard. Too grim. Going to my stamina trainer in an hour or so. He always makes me forget the world, not only is he exotic and sensual in appearance and manner – from Uzbekistan, he’s also my barber – but he has a curious sense of humor and gets me to explain things and expressions. When he uses the word, program, I reply, “ah yes, the pogrom,” and we get down for half hour or so. I leave, spent.

          • TuuxKabin

            Transference. Naughty you. =;o)

      • gaymex1

lol. I was once stationed in SF. One night a group of four marines decided to taunt us by pushing and shouting “go back to your sub faggots”. Poor guys had to return to Camp Pendleton after having had the shit beat out of them by two faggots wielding a nearby newspaper rack.
        Happy days.

        • Ben in Oakland

I remember the guy that put a scissors to my neck, as he was assuming I was just a fag. I gracefully removed the scissors from my neck and his hand, forced him down to the floor, ground his face in the concrete, and helpfully explained that I usually did 30 reps of 250 lbs three times a week as part of my normal workout, and peacefully elaborated further that if I ever saw him in my neighborhood again, I would break him in half.
          Really good times.

          • gaymex1

lol. I would like to have seen his face. I’ve had to deal with a few fag bashers in my day. They were always shocked. Perhaps it was a game to them…I always felt it was a fight for my life, so I was serious.
Funny how they think we’re weak little sissies. I was in UDT at the time and I was in prime shape. I’d been through at least as much physical training as the marines, likely more. At any rate, I doubt any of them ever picked on fags again.

        And, that’s just for starters!

        • 3-Star

Uh-huh. Come back when you are ready to discuss the matter at hand. Thanks for those words of kindness.

          • Schlukitz

I don’t argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.

          • 3-Star

Apparently you do and I’m guilty of it too. Can’t we all just get along?

          • Todd20036

Go fuck a Nazi troll. The rest of us shoot them
            Blocked

      • EdmondWherever

They already thought these supporters are evil. A peaceful protest would not have changed their minds. Their definition of “evil” leaves no room for peace, compromise or consent.

        • 3-Star

You are correct. May I add that violence supports their idea of evil? Now if they had stepped off the bus discharging their weapons then that would have been a different story!

          • EdmondWherever

I don’t know the exact ratio of violent-to-non-violent protesters there, but it wouldn’t matter to NOM if there were only 3 people throwing eggs and smoke bombs, with 300 people being peaceful. NOM would still ascribe the violence to all of us, and use that to slander us all as “evil”. Just wait, you will see press releases from them wondering why liberals condone this, as if we do. They won’t spend 5 minutes trying to sort out the actual perpetrators from the innocent protesters. To them, we all did it.

They may not be discharging weapons, but they are perpetuating a violent and hateful mindset against the transgender community. Whether that is just as destructive as guns is hard to quantify, but it’s certain that their message is destructive. It ruins lives and families, and they want that to continue.

Most liberals will support a non-violent approach to groups like NOM, but there are going to be some who are fed up, and who perceive that only desperate measures will be effective. I don’t know that I agree, but understand why they would think that. I also wouldn’t rate eggs or smoke bombs very high on a 1-to-10 scale of violence. It shouldn’t be done, of course, but when LGBT people are the victims of violence, it certainly isn’t from eggs or smoke.

          • StraightGrandmother

            Very good comment.

            Eggs & a smoke bomb?

            Eh, meh.
Not that I would do it nor condone it, but I am not transgender and not oppressed, so in the grand scheme of oppressor vs ppl who are oppressed, eggs & a smoke bomb, meh.

          • stevenj

I thought the same. I’ve been to demonstrations that really got out of hand (especially during the Vietnam war) that turned really violent. NOM is a hate group and the sight of them can provoke a visceral reaction from some.

          • 3-Star

Thank you for the intelligent reply.

    • Cuberly

      I so love Klewe.

      • SoCalGal20

As do I (though some of our reasons are probably different lol).

        • Cuberly

lol..well, he is a hottie, but his activism is what endears me to him the most. He just cuts through the bullshit and lays it out.

I’d even venture to say that his unorthodox writing style has humorously educated many many people. In a very good way.

          • He’s a great ally and I think made it cool for other straight guys to be allies too.

          • Cuberly

Indeed, you can see some of his gamer pals in his twitter feed engage him and he goes out of his way to reply. He’s a good guy.

          • SoCalGal20

Agreed. He’s an excellent ally, he’s a good writer, he’s a fun read on twitter, I love his snark, he’s friends with Wil Wheaton, etc. He’s good people. I used to love when he would kick Milo’s ass on twitter during Gamergate and after (Kluwe is a big gamer and he WAS NOT having any of that misogynistic shit).

          • Cuberly

No joke, someone needs to write a screen or stage play about the gamergate internet catastrophe. I’d LOVE a film illustrating the daily lives of truly vile human trolls mixed with gaming mixed with a ton of insecurities, mixed with the depths the trolls sunk to lash out at their intended targets.

    • zhera

He’s got real talent! I’d read all his fiction. 😀

      • SoCalGal20

He’s actually written at least a couple of books. One sci-fi that I know of and “Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies: On Myths, Morons, Free Speech, Football, and Assorted Absurdities”. And he writes occasionally for blogs and magazines.

    • Barry William Teske

You mean the rainbow bookmark of chapter 6 in the ‘Gay Agenda: The Aisle of Man Chaps of Love Limited Edition’?

“Over the past few months, on the heels of a fresh wave of organizing by liberals, at least 19 states have introduced measures that would criminalize peaceful protest.”

    • SoCalGal20

Can’t have those Commie liberals and brown people complaining about having their rights taken away, being killed by police, and encroaching fascism, now can we? /s

    • Librarykid

So much for the Constitution and knowledge of its protections by yahoo state legislators.

      • Todd20036

And given how much the tea baggers claim to love the constitution, they sure as hell want to tear it apart.

    • Bj Lincoln

I just passed that along. Screw that! People will protest no matter what but creating laws that stifle that are unconstitutional and could be dangerous.

    • NancyP

This is ALARMING! If you are in one of those states, write your state rep, senator, governor and tell them that this is unconstitutional and unAmerican, and that you plan to oppose (via campaign funds and/or volunteering) any unpatriotic politician who has the gall to vote for this.

Disgusting violent trans activists. Never want to hear another word about how they need to feel “safe” when they came out in broad daylight to terrorize that stupid bus in 3 different cities. The FBI needs to focus on transgender activist domestic terrorism, which this is.

      are going to believe you.

    • M Jackson
  • Richard B

First Brian Brown of The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) said his group wasn’t anti-LGBT, just for male-female marriage and he raised money for that. Then we win in the Supreme Court and he became anti-LGBT because we won (sour grapes) and he raised money off that new issue.
Then he expanded NOM’s horizons and became anti-trans in the bathroom when North Carolina passed HB2 and he raised money for that. Now he seems to morphed into full-fledged ant-trans no matter where they are and he is raising money off of that.
I guess grifter Brian Brown has to hate on something in order to raise money to feed his large family.
You would think a normal self-assured man would get a real job instead of being a professional bigot?

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

A six-digit salaried professional bigot, I last heard. Is that still the case? I don’t know how to get that info from NOM’s non-profit tax disclosures. I’m sure some around here are clever enough to verify.

      • Richard B

Two years ago, Brian Brown was paying himself $500K/year per NOM’s financial disclosures.
Who knew being a hater would pay so well?
Since the Supreme Court ruling in 2015, I imagine his donations fell off significantly, but he in addition took on the role as president of the United Federation of Families (an international hate group) and they had a lot of money in the bank.
Brian Brown is hate grifter that provides well for his large obese family.
They look like they eat mac & cheese and fried anything with gallons of ice cream regularly….

    • Bj Lincoln

I totally agree. The bus is orange. Not pink.

      • Richard B

Thank you BJ – I made the edit.

    • clay

You happen to be skipping the first step in NoM’s transition– their original incorporation papers said that they were a political education group organized to weaken Obama in his first presidential nomination primaries. They claimed “marriage” was simply the issue that would unify their donors.

      • Richard B

Thank you Clay – duly noted

  • Gigi

How much did Brown pay the thugs to throw eggs and smoke bombs and pretend to be with the peaceful protestors?

    • TuuxKabin

Can he afford that? And I think he’d wouldn’t want a food item wasted, if he could get it into his mouth first.

      • Boreal

Two week old eggs otherwise Brian would have eaten them all

      • 2guysnamedjoe

They pulled the bus over at the first rest stop so that BriBri could lick the eggs off of it.

      • Gigi

The Catholic Church has lots of money. (He doesn’t look like he ever goes without, food wise.)

  • Canadian Observer

Hmmm, if guns=a polite society and thrown eggs=a rude society, guess I will pick a rude society every single fucking time.

Throwing eggs at these people is admiral.

    • T-Batwoman

yet another reason people are abandoning the left, destruction of private property is not acceptable. just my opinion.

      • Schlukitz

Beating-up and murdering LGBT folks, passing laws taking away their rights, seeking to criminalize, imprison and execute LGBT people is not acceptable either.

Yet, folks like Brian Brown of NON and countless other anti-gay orgs. and churches get away with it every day of the week without exception .

They call if “Freedom of speech.”

        I call it bullshit.

      • Boreal

So they abandon the left, who gets accused of every crime from the Lindbergh baby kidnapping to 9/11, to go where?

        • T-Batwoman

Why do you think there are so many nonvoters?

          • Boreal

They stay home at their own peril and many I know are the biggest whiners about tRump. When the van comes to take them to the camps, then they can become active.

      • joe ho

you forget that civil rights laws of 60s weren’t passed because of MLK. it was out of fear of malcolm x and the black power movement and the riots and destruction of property they threatened. that scared whitey into doing the right thing.

      • Lars Littlefield

People are leaving the left? Not in the part of the USA where I live.

      • DJ John Bear

Hmph…too bad the homophobic cretins who egged my mother’s house when I was a sophomore didn’t get your well-intentioned message. Fuck em though…turnabout is fair play.

        • T-Batwoman

LGBT won the hearts and minds of our families and friends by being good people. We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard, if we fuck around in the gutter we will become expendable perverted vermin once again.

          • DJ John Bear

Honestly, I’m sick of “having to hold ourselves up to a higher standard” and continuously being beaten down NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. We can find a cure to cancer and it won’t make any difference. The Right continues to fight us at every turn, in denying us rights or stripping them away in the name of “religious freedom”. I haven’t a care how we are perceived, because it makes no difference, and if we have to fight fire with fire, so be it.

Perhaps JMG is growing in reputation?

          • billbear1961

We’ve certainly been under intermittent attack!

We couldn’t get through to the site yesterday (I think it was Saturday, anyway) for an extended period of time–it’s the first time it was THAT bad.

          • PickyPecker

Joe had said on Friday, I think, that the site had come under frequent attack all week and that he was having the tech guys install some sort of upgrade. I encouraged him (again) several times to set up some sort of donation button or something so that those of us who were moved to do so could help out with maintaining the blog.

          • billbear1961

            Yes, I saw that, Picky.

Just added to Netflix: an Aussie retro tv series, The Doctor Blake Mysteries. Quite good.

    • PickyPecker

It is, yes! We’ve enjoyed many of them recently on our local PBS.

      • JT

There’s a gay element in episode 3 of season 1. The actor who plays Danny, the police constable, was in another excellent Aussie series, A Place to Call Home, also a period piece with a large gay element.

        • PickyPecker

also….check out this one if you have not done so already. Another Aussie production series QUITE well done.

I think they call it Tasmanian Gothic, if I remember right.

We were a bit puzzled by the final episode–you’re kind of left to come to your own conclusion, as it isn’t exactly spelled out. (I wanted to go back and check something I didn’t quite catch, but it was erased before I got a chance! That might have cleared it up.)

Don’t know if there will be a second season.

          • another_steve

Billbear, did you follow “Wallander” on PBS — that marvelous series starring the gifted and talented Kenneth Branagh?

That final episode — where Wallander, suffering from early Alzheimer’s, has an imaginary conversation with his deceased father who died from Alzheimer’s — absolutely floored me.

I have Alzheimer’s in my genetic line, and that scene — so beautifully written and performed– absolutely devastated me.

          • billbear1961

We really enjoyed the melancholy Swede.

            Yes, his end is devastating.

The case he solved in that last story was about treason, wasn’t it?

The bear is drawn to the northern seas and all things Nordic.

          • another_steve

            Treason and intrigue, yes.

That entire series was a work of art. Beautifully written. Beautifully acted. Beautifully filmed.

And yes, the filming locations were stunning.

          • djcoastermark

Oooh that sounds good. What network or service can it be found on ?

          • billbear1961

It’s a very slow story, and gloomy as hell (Lord, the people are miserable); but Tasmania is beautiful.

And I’m drawn to brooding, haunting tales.

          • djcoastermark

Perfect! Sort of like the french show Les Revenants?

          • billbear1961

We haven’t seen that! (I was just checking it out in Wiki.)

There’s actually an extraterrestrial element, rather than actual “ghosts.”

I can’t say more without spoiling it!

But there are some hooded creatures people catch sight of in very limited, special circumstances.

It still isn’t clear to me what they were, but they scared the HELL out of me, really creepy.

THAT–the atmosphere it created–made me think of Blair Witch.

There are also things that bring to mind Invasion of the Body Snatchers and even The Thing (1982).

I don’t want to give too much away!

You’ll see what I mean, about the references, as you watch.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Ah yes, the Black Bloc and their wannabee acolytes, always finding ways to turn a legitimate protest into a violence laden melee with police. Anarchist cowards, they ruin it for everyone else.

    • Looked pretty orderly to me. Bicycle cops did great crowd control. Nobody hurt. Bigots chased onto freeway. Go Philly activists.

      • billbear1961

        Hello, Cherry!

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

I’m not saying the protesters weren’t orderly, but you can clearly see the Black Bloc/Anarchists causing problems. They do this quite often, even up here in Canada. Though, the last time they tried to infiltrate a protest, they got beat down by the protesters and not the cops. The Black Bloc/Anarchists are not their to protest, they are there to fuck around.

        • andrew

There is a small group of Anarchist, who have sometimes infiltrated legitimate and peaceful protests in the Philadelphia area, in order to cause anarchy. These anarchists are not people committed to the causes whose demonstrations they infiltrate. They are, as their name proclaims, people committed to bringing down lawful society. They are every bit as pernicious as the bigots who sponsor that hate bus.

          • Acronym Jim

They are especially virulent in Portland and Seattle.

Putin does do that kind of operation all the time. I was just reading yesterday about a fake protest he staged in Lviv, Ukraine to try to stir up animosity between Ukrainians and Poles. I wonder if he’s starting that shit here now, with Donnie’s acquiescence. But the NOM bus seems like it would be of too little interest to bother.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

OT – This just keeps getting biglier and more biglier. Mind-boggling. Does anybody vaguely remember a breakfast meeting that Trump cancelled the morning he was tweeting about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Here’s what that was about:

    http://elpais.com/elpais/2017/03/31/inenglish/1490984556_409827.html

What I find especially intriguing about this latest piece of the puzzle is that, (1) as far as I know, it’s the first report that places Steve Bannon in direct contact with the Russian mob, and (2) the involvement of the NRA.

Can the NRA be prosecuted if it is proven that they are receiving money from a criminal organization? I’m not sure how that works.

    • Treant

I dunno, could that fall under RICO? It would be rich if so.

Now we just need to find somebody to prosecute. Maybe call Sessions, I’m totes sure he’ll get right on that!

It’s a still from the cheesy, satirical, campy, bizarre movie, Starship Troopers. Not for everyones taste. It’s a gorefest, but it’s also a great popcorn flick.

The trailer gives you an idea of the visuals but it also shows how the studio did NOT know how to market the movie. They omit a lot of the tone.

I have hated NOM since they were created in 2007. But the one thing that can make NOM look good is a gang of trans activists. • Ninja0980

Just had an argument with someone about what is going in Russia right now and how liberals always defend Muslims etc.
I’ve had no qualms calling out Muslims and the evilness they’ve done to us overseas and sometimes here.
Here’s the thing though, they still make up less the 2% of our population and in this country, they aren’t the ones in levers of power.
Christians are and as we’ve seen the past 50 years and more, they’ve used that power in hurt us every way they can short of murdering us outright.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I often see Muslims used to deflect from the shitty behavior of Christians in this nation. You can’t say you’re the best of the best or that you follow someone you claim is the Prince of Peace if you have to use the whole “at least we don’t throw you off a building” as a way of proving superiority. They set an artificially insanely low bar that they just barely stumble over then wonder why the rest of us are not at all impressed.

It doesn’t mean that any of us should stop criticizing how the Saudis have allowed fundamentalist clergy to oppress and stunt the rest of the population in the country or how in many countries, being an apostate or atheist gets you killed or targeted for violence.

But the Christians in this country need HUGE pushback on the notion that Jeebus is a free pass to treat anybody outside their particular tribe as non-citizens/non-humans and trying to enshrine their bigotry in law.

      • Ninja0980

Indeed it shouldn’t and I for one at am sick at how we have to kiss the Saudis butts for oil instead of telling them to go to hell where the belong.
But as you said, not murdering us is a low bar to hurdle over and doesn’t give them a pass for everything else.

  • Michael R

Maybe everyone remembers this story , I missed it , seems relevant …

    From March 21st …

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) pointed to an outside dark money group that spent $7 million lobbying for the blockade of Merrick Garland’s nomination by President Obama and that was now spending $10 million to support Gorsuch.

“That’s a $17 million delta and for the life of me I’m trying to figure out what they see in you that makes that $17 million delta worth their spending,” Whitehouse said. “Do you have any answer to that?”

“You’d have to ask them,” Gorsuch deflected.

“I can’t. Because I don’t know who they are. It’s just a front group,” Whitehouse responded.

    • SoCalGal20

DAMN. You go, Sheldon Whitehouse! Too bad the story apparently get traction:

  • fuow

So the asswipe christerians bought and paid for people to infiltrate a peaceful protest and give them a photo-op.

          • Acronym Jim

In this case, I’m agreeing with you. Being from Portland, Oregon, I know what a problem anarchists hijacking of peaceful protest can be. Of course, it should be noted that the only recent person to have been documented paying his chearleaders was DJT.

          • Lumpy Gaga

            Really?

Moments after the speakers finished, the bus turned the corner and appeared.

            And that’s teh funny, cuz:

The transgender-rights supporters expected the bus to arrive sometime
Saturday but didn’t know what time it was going to show up. Backed by
conservative groups, the bus had been touring East Coast cities for the
            past couple of weeks.

            Who’s trolling whom?

This coincidence doesn’t pass the smell test.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

Great to see the NOM Hate Bus given the welcome it deserved in Philly.

    http://www.salon.com/2017/04/02/trumps-paradise-disappears-as-seas-around-mar-a-lago-rise-budget-cuts-could-damage-local-climate-work_partner/

“Climate change isn’t a nebulous threat for Palm Beach County, Florida, where sea creatures swim through driveways during seasonal king tides that flood low-lying streets. For years, the county has worked to address the problem by mapping flood risk, upgrading coastal storm protections and creating a regional climate action plan with three other counties. Later this year, local officials hope to host a sea level workshop by Thomas Ruppert, an attorney with the National Sea Grant College Program.

But if the most prominent resident of Palm Beach County has his way, Sea Grant would cease to exist. President Trump’s proposed 2018 budget seeks to eliminate the $73 million program, along with more than $177 million worth of other initiatives within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, many aimed at protecting communities from climate impacts.

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where he has spent about half of his weekends since taking office, is among the most vulnerable properties in the county. Most of the resort could be underwater by 2100, and the lowest areas already flood during certain tides.”

Which means he had nothing to do with it.

    • Bob Lees

I’m pretty sure he didn’t write it. That’s prime faux news watchin’ time. Gotta find out what else Obama did and that’s the only way he seems to know.

    • TampaDink

I wonder if this is a condition that hits home.

    • Lumpy Gaga

      They’re overloading April a bit, aren’t they?

    • TuuxKabin

I’m all for leaving Barron alone. But this is the only time he’s ever – not that he wrote that – time any thing remotely empathetic has come out of his stubby, wee wittle fingers. I think it’s relative to their son.

      • TampaDink

        BINGO!

      • BobSF_94117

They’ve clearly tasked someone in the WH to issue normal WH press releases. It’s probably a holdover from a previous administration that they’ve got locked in the basement.

    • RJ Bone

      No way he wrote that.

      • Lazycrockett

Like he’s ever heard of the word awareness.

        • Bomer

Let alone spell it or pronounce it.

        • Cuberly

Then there’s the empathy thing. He doesn’t do that.

    • Lazycrockett

Only one light on in the second floor and if you look closely you can see the Faux news cast.

    • Lazycrockett

and you know all the pundits are going to be gushing over how “presidential” he suddenly is………………….vomit.

    • SpiderPIG
      • TampaDink

Although I am not a Twitter user, that is a hysterical channel. (Is channel the right word?)

        • SpiderPIG

I try to stay away from those, I don’t want to see more of him, even if it is a joke.
(This whole deal will never be funny)

          • TampaDink

I’m one of those people who has to laugh (and drink excessively) or I’d spend my every waking hour in a state of abject fear & cry myself to sleep each night.

    • Cuberly

Not him. He doesn’t do commas, well, accurately. My guess is this is ScammyAnne.

  • MikeBx2
    • TampaDink

Sounds like a possible escape from the fucked up family that he married into.

      • MikeBx2

I think he likely fits right in with them. He’s probably up to something unethical.

        • TampaDink

I suspect that you are right about that. But maybe, from time to time, he needs to leave the country so that his wife can spend more “quality time” with her daddy.

          • Lazycrockett

Out of country, out of mind.

          • TampaDink

There is much irony in that comment, since daddy is out of his fucking mind no matter what country he is in.

        • 2guysnamedjoe

He’s probably up to something unethical.
          That goes without saying.

Tillerson’s job is in-house relations … with the Russian Federation.

        • SoCalGal20

Trump should have just named Tillerson ambassador to Russia. That’s basically his job, right? (Btw, who is the ambassador to Russia?)

          • TampaDink

            Don the con.

          • That_Looks_Delicious

            Tiffany? Barron? Melania?

Just kidding! Why would Putin need an ambassador from a country that he’s running?

          • SoCalGal20

            Keeping up appearances?

      • Treant

Also, the Iraqis might look Tillerson in the eye and the fucker would nuke the entire Middle East.

      • TampaDink

Too many hours. Too much travel. And some foreign dignitaries actually want to make eye contact with whoever they are speaking with.

        • That_Looks_Delicious

I don’t know why Trump didn’t just nominate Jared for SoS. He’s not any less qualified than Tillerson, the nepotism seems to be no problen at all for the GOP senators, and he seems to be the one actually doing the SoS work.

          • TampaDink

My guess: He owed Rex more favors than he does Jared. Perhaps time sharing his wife is part of the agreement.
Fuck, how I want to witness all of the corrupt people involved in this “administration” go to prison.

    • TuuxKabin

Get the hell out of there ass hat. You’re all we need to be taken hostage, harmed, or killed ‘in action’ or by friendly fire. If the hell beast doesn’t get us all killed it’ll be one of his family members.

      • zhera

Would Donnie be able to pretend to be sad if Jared is kidnapped/killed/disappeared?

        • TuuxKabin

He can’t pretend anything. Everything is on his sleeve. He’d have I’dBonkHer back to his greedy disgusting self. Maybe had Jarred sent over there for eliminating.

        • 2guysnamedjoe

His sadness will be fake, but the war he starts will be all too real.

        • Snarkaholic

He’d rush right over to Ivanka’s house…to ‘console’ her.

    • MikeBx2

      Suspicious to me…

“Late Friday, the White House released details of the plan devised by his advisers to avoid conflicts of interest between Mr. Kushner’s government role and the wide-ranging business empire he ran with his father. That business depends on foreign investment from undisclosed sources, as well as billions of dollars in loans from the world’s biggest financial services firms.

Although Mr. Kushner has stepped down from his management positions at the more than 200 entities that operated aspects of the family real estate business, he will remain a beneficiary of a vast majority of the business he ran for the past decade, through a series of trusts that already owned the various real estate companies.”

      NYT, March 31, 2017 https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/31/us/politics/ivanka-trump-and-jared-kushner-still-benefiting-from-business-empire-filings-show.html

      • That_Looks_Delicious

Just a reminder. Jared Kushner’s father is so crooked that Chris Christie sent him to prison for 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign contributions.

        • MikeBx2

It’s all so incredible. If this were a fictional book, it wouldn’t be believable.

          • That_Looks_Delicious

I know, right? Every day with Trump I read the news and think, “Oh, come on, ‘Lost in Space’ was more believable than this.” And yet, here we are.

Thanks. I’m sure Tester could kick his ass.

          • Ninja0980

Tester has a gay son (and a cute one at that.) so he’s had to battle with bigots before.
            This will be nothing new.

    • Don’t forget to call or write your Senators, folks.

It doesn’t matter if they’ve already decided one way or the other or are Republicans. Tell them. Nearly every single Senator at least has a feedback form on their website.

Both my Senators have said they’ll uphold the filibuster / oppose cloture. It doesn’t hurt tell ’em I approve, so I’ve done that.

      • TampaDink

I plan to ask little Marco whether he would demand a SCOTUS appointee be voted on if a Democratic president & their election were under investigation for collusion with Russia?

        • Ninja0980

Also ask him why he is willing to let three district court nominees he blocked under Obama get votes under Trump.

          • TampaDink

That might be too many question for his staff to field…and definitely more than he can handle.

          • Ninja0980

I wish Florida Democrats had someone better to run against him.
The minute the stories came about Murphy lying about parts of his resume, I knew he was toast.

          • TampaDink

So do I. To be honest, and acknowledging that he isn’t squeaky clean, beloved (nor half as attractive as Murphy) I think he might have been more of a contender against little Marco….who did not like his previous job as a U.S. Senator but was ever so sincere in wanting to be reelected once his presidential hopes were dashed.

          • Ninja0980

He was simply too inexperienced to handle the attacks that came his way, nor to land any blows against Rubio.
Sad to say but when you have a weak bench, that is what happens.
Democrats neglected the state level, and have been made to pay for it.

          • TampaDink

This is true. Sad & true. I hope that FL Democrats will wake the fuck up before the midterms. It seems as if our electorate has given in to the idea that this is a red state & there is nothing that can be done about it. This mentality really took root when shrub light rose to power.

          • Ninja0980

Gerrymandering did a number on us but the reality is that besides Howard Dean, Democrats have never invested in building up state parties the way Republicans have.
Throw in a base that doesn’t show up in midterms and you have the scenario in Florida and elsewhere with Republicans in control and beatable candidates winning again and again.

          • TampaDink

This is so sad & so true. I am hopeful that Pres. Obama will become, as it has been suggested, very active in the fight to overturn the horrid effects of gerrymandering.

          • Ninja0980

Would be better if we had a SCOTUS that would rule against it.
Scary how we have to count on Kennedy once again.

          • TampaDink

Scary as fuck! I am hoping beyond all hope that enough Russian tampering with the presidential election will surface in the next few days that the senate will put the proceedings for Gorsuch on ice.

        • johncAtl

Like Little Marco would ever respond.

And OT, but you’ll appreciate this. I got an email on Friday for Tower Liquors on Piedmont – about 200 yards from where I-85 collapsed – that they are open and gave me options on how to get there. I was so afraid I might go for months without wine.

          • TampaDink

Months without wine? Perish the thought! I was wondering if that cluster fuck is affecting you.

          • johncAtl

It has unfortunately pushed traffic that would have been on Piedmont onto Peachtree. So I guess for the next few months I’ll just cuss a lot. Which is what I do anyway.

          • TampaDink

I suppose that staying home & drinking all day (and night) isn’t an option yet. It really isn’t a bad way to deal (by not dealing) with reality.

OT: Trump Getting Ready To Start WWIII

“If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you,” he said in an interview with UK paper Financial Times.

Pressed on whether he thought he could succeed alone, he replied: “Totally.”

Mr Trump was speaking ahead of a scheduled visit from Chinese President Xi Jinping this week.

“China has great influence over North Korea. And China will either decide to help us with North Korea, or they won’t. And if they do that will be very good for China, and if they don’t it won’t be good for anyone,” Mr Trump told the FT.

Asked if he meant “one-on-one” unilateral action, Mr Trump said: “I don’t have to say any more. Totally.”

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-39475178

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Yeah, I heard he has a “secret plan” that will “totally” solve North Korea.

I can’t believe this idiot is now the president.

    • Treant

Potentially scary, but the military has to realize he’s unstable and unreliable. 90% chance this is just narcissistic self-blowing to make people think (or so he hopes) that he actually has any power remaining.

I firmly believe they’ve told him the nuclear codes are “1-2-3-4-5, y’know, just like the planet’s air shield.”

      • gosh i love you. yu made me laff, you bastard.

        • Walter Maerlyn

Not that it’ll matter much if China gets frightened and decides it wishes to avoid fallout by striking first. Then we retaliate.

          Who’ll be left? Russia.

      This is not hyperbole.

I’m with you Becca, I know it’s not hyperbole.

Not much more I can, or want, to say on the subject.

      • BobSF_94117

It really is amazing that his “great negotiating skills” seem to consist of outrageous public blustering, followed by a cold shoulder, then a bit of a warm up as all parties agree to something far less than what could have been achieved with more reasonable behavior.

Graham did walk the walk on Obama’s first two nominees.
Too bad he showed the coward he is with the last one.
And as with the nuclear option for lower court nominees, he knows what Republicans did to cause that, just like this one but he will push the lie that this is all the Democrats fault no matter what.
Too bad many of the pundits will fall for it.
And I’ll also say this, anyone who thinks Republicans wouldn’t nuke it to replace Kennedy or one of the other justices is a fool.
One only has to see what they did with the lower courts to know what a farce that was.

      • NowAnAgnostic

What pisses me off is his excuse for not voting on President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland, and his trashing of the Democrats. Primary elections. What a feeble excuse.

        • Ninja0980

Especially since him being a closet case hasn’t hurt him, why would anything else?

I fcukin’ LOVE it. It ain’t “rode outta town on a rail” or “tarred and feathered,” but it’ll definitely DO for now.

Of course, transitioning is SINFUL to STOOPID KKKonservative KKKristianist KKKultists (and some others, like the Mor[m]ons and Pope Frankie’s minions, though some of the most devout CHRISTIANS I have know have been transgender Roman Catholics), because THEIR god NEVER makes mistakes.

His secretary must have detracted him while we suffered the Black Death, the Crusades, the Holocaust, the AIDS epidemic, pediatric cancer, countless wars, famines, fires, floods, earthquakes, etc. etc. etc. (who do you think gave US the weather machine? )

He was napping when the Kennedys, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, Reagan (survived). Mrs. Martin Luther King Sr., and countless others were murdered for standing up for truth and justice.

He is on lunch break when a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, intersexual, asexual, or queer person is murdered in a hate crime.

And if starving children and refugees (numbering in the millions) are part of “his mysterious ways,” then he can shove said “mysterious ways” RIGHT up his “immortal” asshole.

Marcionism may not be a heresy after all (chuckle):

Marcionism was an Early Christian dualist belief system that originated in the teachings of Marcion of Sinope at Rome around the year 144.[1]

Marcion believed Jesus was the savior sent by God, and Paul the Apostle was his chief apostle, but he rejected the Hebrew Bible and the God of Israel. Marcionists believed that the wrathful Hebrew God was a separate and lower entity than the all-forgiving God of the New Testament. This belief was in some ways similar to Gnostic Christian theology; notably, both are dualistic,
that is, they posit opposing gods, forces, or principles: one higher,
spiritual, and “good”, and the other lower, material, and “evil”
(compare Manichaeism). This dualism stands in contrast to other Christian and Jewish views that “evil” has no independent existence, but is a privation or lack of “good”,[2] a view shared by the Jewish theologian Moses Maimonides.[3]

Marcionism, similar to Gnosticism, depicted the God of the Old Testament as a tyrant or demiurge (see also God as the Devil). Marcion was labeled a gnostic by Philip Schaff,[4] while other scholars[who?] have rejected that categorization. Marcion’s canon consisted of eleven books: A gospel consisting of ten sections drawn from the Gospel of Luke; and ten Pauline epistles.

Marcion’s canon rejected the entire Old Testament, along with all other epistles and gospels of the 27 book New Testament canon because they transmitted “Jewish” ideas.[5]
Paul’s epistles enjoy a prominent position in the Marcionite canon,
since Paul is credited with correctly transmitting the gracious
universality of Jesus’ message in opposition to the harsh dictates of
    the “just god”.

Marcionism was denounced by its opponents as heresy, and written against, notably by Tertullian, in a five-book treatise Adversus Marcionem, written about 208. Marcion’s writings are lost, though they were widely
read and numerous manuscripts must have existed. Even so, many scholars
    (including Henry Wace)
claim it is possible to reconstruct and deduce a large part of ancient
Marcionism through what later critics, especially Tertullian, said
    concerning Marcion.

Jean Rohe — National Anthem: Arise! Arise!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay1iC1zt24A

Thanks to Micah Bucey and Judson Memorial Church for the generous use of their space. Special thanks to Ilusha Tsinadze, Andy Benincasa, Jon Singer, Nitzan Mager, Yance Ford, Liz Ensz, the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, and the Rohe Family.

Lyric (with gratitude to Dr. Martin Luther King and Abel Meeropol, via Billie Holiday)

    Atlantic and Pacific flow
The Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico
The land between sustains us all
To cherish it, our tireless call

    Arise! Arise!
I see the future in your eyes.
To a more perfect union we aspire
And lift our voices from the fire.

We reached these shores from many lands
We came with hungry hearts and hands
Some came by force and some by will
At the auction block, in the darkened mill

    CHORUS

We died in your fields and your factories
Strange fruit hangin’ from the poplar trees
With an old coat hanger in a room somewhere
A trail of tears, an electric chair

    CHORUS

    Our great responsibility
To be guardians of our liberty
‘Till tyrants bow to the people’s dream
And justice flows like a mighty stream

I read the article. Thank you.

      Some.

I feel none. Zero. Less than zero.

Anybody who voted for Donnie deserves any shit that happens to them. They didn’t care about his being a world-class ass. They didn’t care about his BRAGGING about sexually abusing women. They didn’t care about his acting like a 3-year-old, and calling everybody names. They didn’t care that he is a verifiable liar liar liar. They didn’t care that he knew nothing about policy. They didn’t care that even CONSERVATIVE tax analysts stated that he would destroy the economy.

The photo of one of them, sitting in the corner dining room at the table with red, white and blue bunting made me nearly spit at the screen. Their statements are just more dirt on their grave and, unfortunately, a hell of a lot of others.

      Wow.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

If only their other clients would do that. Also, if/when I hire a law firm, I want them to give me actual solid legal advice not shit that’ll stink later on.

So good for the investment firm.

    • TuuxKabin

I worked in their NYC office, HR, or IHR, Inhumane Resources. Jeeze, larger sharks are nowhere else to be found. Not even the aquarium. I first learned “the beatings will continue until morale improves” from being there. Early to mid 90’s. Skedaddled back to not-for-profit long term health care after that. And that’s only ML.

      Yes. More of this please.

Just trot out your wife in an ill-fitting leopard print polyester dress to stand beside you as you “humbly ” admit you have to get some burner phones and gift cards the next time around the play pen.

          • That_Looks_Delicious

Can’t they trot out the underaged boyfriend/intern/escort/meth dealer every once in a while? Or do the wives not go for that?

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

Evangelical Christians need to be knocked off their morality pedestal and be assumed to be thoroughly hypocritical and nasty and vile by the general public because they vote that way consistently. If they had actual morals and believed in the Sermon of the Mount instead of cherrypicking Leviticus while wearing tattoos, getting buzzcuts, eating pork, working on Sabbath and getting divorces willy-nilly, it would have shown by now.

        • Todd20036

I don’t always see. But when I do, I see what you did there.

I was going to link this story earlier today but got distracted…..
Talbot is an excellent researcher and author – several of his books are about America’s hidden (and not so hidden) history.

      • Walter Maerlyn

I thought it was extremely well written and very thought provoking about the level of the mess we are now in. Things are so far down the rabbit hole that the damned mainstream press is basically going insane and helping rehabilitate the man who probably more than anyone else on earth threw this “election” to 45. Just because 45 hates most of the press, it doesn’t magically make them any good at what they do.

        • stevenj

In one of Talbot’s columns a couple of weeks ago he interviewed a deep state spook (Talbot has written extensively on the CIA and has contacts) who was quoted as saying that trump would die in jail. His 2015 published book The Devil’s Chessboard is a revelation.

    • Ross

      Excellent. Thank you.

It just re-confirms my opinion that Comey is scum. And he should be in jail.

  • Lazycrockett

Wanna listen to a bunch of stupid millennials, MSNBC has you covered.

    • Ninja0980

They still can’t top lying shit Guy Benson, who is on a tweet storm to make Republicans blameless in the judicial wars when in fact they are the ones responsible for it.
I loathe him and other LGBT Republicans, I really do.

      • Lazycrockett

guess which one talks bout black on black crime…………………

        • Ninja0980

          The balding white guy?

          • Lazycrockett

so close, let just say one of them is not like the others.

          • Ninja0980

            The black guy?
Did he use all the self-loathing talking points?

          • Lazycrockett

Seriously it was like Ari watched some bad CNN Anderson Cooper and thought it would play well. tsk tsk tsk.

          • Ninja0980

I changed the channel the minute they came on.
If nothing else, the belief some of them have that LGBT rights and other things won’t be turned back so they can vote Republican is STUPID.
Alito and Thomas will have no qualms overturning it, Gorsuch and (god forbid) new Conservative judge won’t either.
Get a religious freedom law to weaken it, then another one to finish it off.

    • ByronK

Wow, JFC. Canned talking-points from ugly, strident, self-absorbed, brain-washed virgins. Kirsten Tate is like Tomi with a dye job.

  • SoCalGal20

The 3 Dems that so far say they will vote for Gorsuch:

    1. Manchin
    2. Heitkamp
    3. Joe Donnelly of Indiana

If any of these people are your Senator I’m sure they’d LOVE to hear from you! 🙂

    • Ninja0980

I get why they’re doing it (especially Manchin) but the idea most Republicans won’t vote against them anyway is still a laugh and a half.

      • Lazycrockett

Fuck it make McConnell go nuclear, cause its best for the DEMS to understand what is obvious, he’s a lying asshole who will do whatever the fuck he wants to take away their rights and then help in killing the poor.

        • Ninja0980

Indeed, and if He and folks like Guy Benson and others want to push the BS lie that Democrats are the only guilty party here, call them out for a change and talk about Republicans efforts to turn the judicial branch into a right wing hell hole from SCOTUS all the way down to district courts in Vermont and how Obama had the lowest number of judges ever confirmed in his last two years of any President since Eisenhower.

          • Lazycrockett

getting 60 votes is standard. If you don’t get it, you don’t go forward. This is just GOP bullying to get their way. Fuck Em All.

          • Ninja0980

Yup, and fuck all the pundits who have let Republicans lie again and again about their obstruction of the courts and talks of Robert Bork, who had no business being nominated for dog catcher, much less SCOTUS.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

There is no upside to rolling over for the GOP. The Dems have nothing to gain and much to lose.

  • JCF

    (OT) Point of personal privilege:

As most of you here know, I’m an Episcopalian. While caring for my 96 year old dad, I go w him to his parish—the same one I grew up in (St Michael’s, Carmichael CA). For the Episcopal Church, it’s a very middle-of-the-road suburban parish (there are a few out LGBTs like myself, but not many).

This morning, apparently for the first time that current parishioners can remember, we had a guy show up at the curb, w/ an (amplified) bullhorn, carrying a sign much like this one:

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3d4c7540eabc6c8441124ce36bbbc68425aecb94ee7b26bbaf0ad54185133786.jpg

He was harrassing everyone entering, telling us we were All Going to Hell (yes, he specifically said “This Church Allows Ho-Mo-Sex-Shuls!”).

We must be doing something right(eous)—just like Jesus.

    • Cuberly

      Imagine that man’s life.

      Better yet, don’t.

My primary rule when it comes to religion is the same as the hippocratic oath.

      Do no harm.

      • Treant

His primary rule is the hippocritic oath, I’m thinking. Never watch him in private, he’ll break every rule he’s supposedly got. 🙂

    • Lazycrockett

That’s quite a list there, though it takes several times to figure out drunk addicts or homosexual mormons aren’t on the same literal page.

    • Treant

I manage to hit (or at least touch on) six on that list.

I gotta work on that. Since any one is, apparently, enough to be damning, you might as well enjoy the entire set.

      • JCF

It wasn’t exactly the same as this sign (I didn’t want to get close enough to this motherfucker “Child of God” to read it), but it did have multiple things listed [I think in (/) cross-out form?]

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

He’s just angry that everybody isn’t as miserable as he is.

      • JCF

We in the choir (the first to hear him, having arrived early for practice) got to commisserate that we were “all going to hell” TOGETHER, so we were still sure to have a good time!

Although media reported on Sunday that Kushner and
Dunford were in Iraq over the weekend, they only arrived on Monday
afternoon. Reuters was among a small group of reporters traveling with

Religion is just foul. Vile and foul.

    • Piona O.

I must respectfully disagree, Robert. Some religion can be supporting and uplifting. But not this nasty, far right wing hateful fundamentalist Xtianity. Those people only believe in their own superiority, their right to judge others and force their own beliefs upon the world at large, and the damnation of those who don’t believe as they do.

      • Robert Anthony

And I respect your right to respectfully disagree, but I stand by my opinion. Delusional belief in deities enables extremists to do what they do. If religion were abandoned and gods banished to annals of ignorant history, human beings would have infinitely less to fight about. Belief in higher powers is a soother to stick in your mouth when you’re feeling uneasy about mortality, and ALL religions teach worthiness and unworthiness in subtle ways that all lead to disparity and segregation. It’s poison.
