Disney Closes Hall Of Presidents To Add Robot Trump

On Monday morning, CNN’s Jake Tapper tweeted a photo from Walt Disney World in Orlando. The Hall of Presidents show starts with a film presentation before revealing animatronic versions of every president. Speeches are delivered by the representations of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the then-current President of the United States, Barack Obama. The Obama robot was added in 2009, and Obama himself recorded dialogue for the show in 2012.

Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced Trump’s inclusion on an earnings call just days after his election. Some Disney fans were less than thrilled, with one starting a petition on Change.org to demand the animatronic Trump never speak as part of the attraction:

“The Magic Kingdom at Disney World is a place specifically designed for the enjoyment of children and families. Therefore, it is not an appropriate place for a Donald Trump speech. We ask that Walt Disney World take a stand against divisive and hurtful rhetoric and have the backs of millions of Americans and people worldwide whose day would be ruined by the depiction of a speech by Donald Trump.”
