Sen. John McCain: Trump Must Retract His Wiretapping Claim Or Provide Evidence Of His Accusation [VIDEO]

The Hill reports:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday said President Trump either has to retract his claim that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, or provide evidence of the allegations. “President Trump has to provide the American people, not just the intelligence community, but the American people, with evidence that his predecessor, former president of the Unites States was guilty of breaking the law,” McCain told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The House Intelligence Committee has asked the White House to provide any evidence of the allegations by Monday. McCain said on Sunday that if Obama “violated the law” by ordering a wiretap, then “we’ve got a serious issue.”

“I have no reason to believe that the charge is true, but I also believe that the president of the Unites States could clear this up in a minute,” McCain said, adding that Trump could call the director of the CIA and the director of National Intelligence (DNI) for proof.

OT: Trump entertains known homosexual in the Lincoln bedroom. Levin of TMZ hangs out with Trump for an hour at the White House during which they sneak off to the Lincoln bedroom for . . . ?

    • Bob Conti

Sucking drinks from containers with straws?

      • Lars Littlefield

Levin sucks down his bottomless health smoothie while Trump sucks on a juice box.

    • Natty Enquirer

Well, if it was a sword fight, Levin would win in a nanosecond.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

I wouldn’t find either one of them entertaining in a bedroom, or any other room for that matter.

  • Natty Enquirer

Oh shut up, you Captured Person. Sad.

  • Bob Conti
  • Why should he???

Trump has been lying for 30+ years and now his lying his given him the Presidency of the United States; this is his brass ring of accomplishments…

Lastly, the people who voted for him NEED to believe Obama did this in order to keep the HATE in their veins for this man on par with Trump’s hatred for Obama.

  • Joe in PA

Oh, look at the big balls on McCain. Pfft.

    • Acronym Jim

Those aren’t balls, those are fuzzy dice. There is no “there” there and they can be shoved in the glove box when he doesn’t need to show how “mavericky” he is.

    • Bad Tom

I think President Obama looks pretty sexy doing that. I mean, Super Hero President!

      • David Walker

        In many ways he was.

    • Acronym Jim

They believe that Obama is extremely near-sighted? That’s ridiculous!

      • bzrd

it takes binoculars to see all the way back to the 1950s

  • bkmn

    Who woke him up?

  • paganguy

And I’m sure, now that McCain has shown him the error of his ways, he’ll send that right over along with his tax returns, his list of conflicts of interest, and transcripts of his contacts with his bestie Vlad for the last year. Congressional Republicans are like the parents who threaten consequences and never deliver. “Now Donnie, if you don’t behave we’ll do … something.”

    • Gerry Fisher

IMO, it’s not about changing SCPOTUS. It’s about positioning himself for power after SCPOTUS falls.

      • paganguy

I think that’s the case for several of them. The question is: just how complicit have they been in covering 45’s ass. The old “what did you know and when did you know it”. I think some are in so deep now, they’re terrified that any revelations will sink them along with him.

  • SoCalGal20

Talk talk talk. DO SOMETHING, Sen. McCain.

  • BobSF_94117

Just enough opposition to appear maverick-y, not enough to accomplish anything.

    • Todd20036

He’s not fooling anyone outside of his base

    • Gerry Fisher

      this

    • jimbo65

Yep. He might as well be handing an arsonist a book of matches. He stands there doing nothing while America burns.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

But John, that’s not realistic. Talking to heads of intelligence agencies could cut into Trumpy’s TV time.

  • Bad Tom

Trump (or whomever put the Brietbart story in his “reading pile”,) DOES NOT WANT to clear up the issue. It is a successful distraction from the Trump team’s Russian treason.

    • Chucktech

      That’s OK, we can multi-task.

  • crewman

O/T but Rachel Maddow is on fire lately. This is long but fascinating, about another potentially seriously illegal business dealing of Trump…

    • Circ09

Too bad she only speaks to the choir. The mainstream never hear any of the discourse by Rachel, Joy Reid, etc…And the cut-out memes they see on the internet are believed to be “fake news”.

    • Randy Left Brooklyn

This would be part of the reason why Trump would not release his tax returns.

    • The_Wretched

That took a bit to get somewhere but um, Trump’s deal in Azerbaijan has ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard!

    • greenmanTN

Would it kill her to cut to the chase, make the point at the beginning, THEN go back 60 years or more?

Wavy bridge, Bechtel, blah blah blah, CUT TO THE FUCKING CHASE! What is your goddamn point?! I’m sure I would know if my narcolepsy hadn’t kicked in while I was waiting for you to get to the point!

  • lymis

He’d better talk to them fast. At the rate he’s firing people, there won’t be anyone left to ask.

  • coram nobis

It’s more than just this one allegation. It’s part of a growing conspiracy theory that Obama has somehow seeded the Trump administration with his supporters.

  • david fairfield

Why is he the only repub speaking out against Trump on this issue? Why aren’t the Dems out there raising holy hell? Are they all ok with the “no big deal” attitude? This and every other treasonous scandal needs to be fully investigated NOW!!!

    • SoCalGal20

Dems are limited in what they can do, not being a majority in either house. And many ARE speaking out. I follow several Dem congresspeople on twitter, not to mention the ones who go on Joy Reid, Lawrence, and Rachel’s shows. Adam Schiff has been very outspoken. Maxine Waters has been outspoken. Al Fraken. Rep. Ted Lieu has been relentless. Part of the issue is that some of the shows would rather have Bernie or John McCain on than open it up to other congresspeople.

      • david fairfield

My point. You list a handful of people, and the verbiage is firm at best, except Maxine who is going off, thankfully. There should be a mass movement over this. We know the Dems have limited power and don’t have majority. Twitter is not doing something tangible, and twitter reaches a limited number of people. Twitter followers get the information, what about the rest of the country? Every single dem should be out there in every state raising holy hell ON THIS TOPIC every single hour of every single day until the FBI, CIA Congress, state leaders push for investigations and bring charges against Trump. Were the democrats in office making claims like this about a former republican leader they would already be in jail no matter who had the majority. It’s not enough, it’s not on mainstream news, it is basically being swept under the rug like EVERYTHING else this administration has done which is shady and illegal and unethical and a DANGER to our democracy. They’re DELIBERATELY pushing every agenda as far as they can just to see how far they can…then when it is not met with immediate and firm action they push it further, creating lies and misleading people all along the way. They’re LAUGHING at the American people. They’re calling us SUCKERS and they don’t give a shit about one single human being who is affected by their bullying tactics. The response from Dems…..IS. NOT. ENOUGH.

  • Buford

While I may agree with him THIS time, I’m growing weary of seeing McCain on the TV every damn day telling us what other people need to do.

  • Gerry Fisher

McCain and Lindseybelle are doing very good jobs of positioning themselves as the Reasonable Republicans so that they will yield power when SCPOTUS is impeached. (“I opposed his misdeeds right from the very beginning.”) It doesn’t matter that they helped build this Frankenstein monster and that the whole party is complicit–give them some SNL cologne. THEY “first figured out” that Cheetolini must go; that’s the false narrative they are constructing right now. (It’s similar to the scam McCain pulled in the 80s and 90s, developing his “maverick” persona so that he could run for president.)

  • Treant

“I’ll still vote for every Republican piece of shit that’s appointed and every crappy bill, but I’m so Mavericky for saying stuff like this!”

Shut up, boat anchor, or put your money where your mouth is.

  • -M-

The liars in the White House are a serious issue John. As are their enablers in Congress.

  • AJ Drew

I am not a fan of McCain, but any established GOP politician calling out DT is a good thing.

  • The_Wretched

Well, McCain, you’re right on this one but it’s all the rest that matters. Didn’t you vote yes for 17/18 confirmations?

  • TexasBoy

Next up: Trump says he has a super secret password to keep an alien robot from destroying earth. The passsword came to him in a dream after he fell asleep in front of the TV. Klaatu Barada Nikto.

  • ColdCountry

But Trump doesn’t believe the CIA, FBI, or DNI. He only believes FOX and Breitbart. Besides, he’s a typical rightwinger. He’ll throw out an accusation and say it’s up to the accused to prove it’s false. I ran into that on some rightwing site – before I got banned. Some idiot was accusing me of being something and said it was up to me to prove him wrong. I said it didn’t work that way in this country, and he insisted it did. So I told him I heard he cheated on his taxes, beat his wife and diddled his kids, and said it was true unless he could prove it wasn’t. He didn’t respond.

  • worstcultever

Wake me up when any of these schmucks like McGramps start using real words like “pure crazy” and “menace.”

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Trump must do this…or what? What are you going to do to hold his feet to the fire, Sen. McCain? The problem is there are never any consequences for his bad behavior, so he’s not ever going to comply with a “must” directive.

    • Opinion Sousaphones

      Exactly! McCain is just bloviating.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

    Ya think?

  • cleos_mom

In view of the probable non-action, this was a statement about as meaningful as a fart in a crowded elevator.

  • Gianni

He’s just staking out his position. We already know and want the same things he said. As far as I’m concerned, a retraction wouldn’t mean squat. Trump did his usual and lied to divert the spotlight from himself, his cabinet, his agency choices, and the whole Russian link stories. A retraction would very much highlight that he is the consummate liar we know he is. That’s why his press secretary and other spokespersons keep ducking behind the line, “The President believes it to be true.” Unspoken are the words, “I, myself, don’t believe it and there’s no evidence or proof of what he said.”

  • Henry Auvil

The only two words I hope to see inscribed onto his tombstone are, “Sarah Palin”

  • JCF

Ah, the first flush of Spring—when John McCain’s balls come out of hibernation (temporarally).

OH STFU Senator do nothing windbag. All blah, blah, blah, trying to make believe you are relevant.
