Tony Perkins Praises Disney Boycott

Via press release from hate group leader Tony Perkins:

If you’re looking for conservative values at Disney, it really is a small world after all. The company, which bears almost no resemblance to the man who created it, has transformed from a beloved American icon to one of the most reliable voices for the radical Left. From “gay days” at the theme park to its public opposition to the Defense of Marriage Act, it’s no secret who those mouse ears have been listening to.

Now, two decades into its activism, the company is breaking new ground with an intentional nod to LGBT activists. In its new Beauty and the Beast remake, Disney decided to throw in some gratuitous political propaganda when the character LeFou dances away with another man. Director Bill Condon describes it this way, saying that the character “is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.” He “makes something really subtle and delicious out of it – [I]t is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.” But not everyone thinks it’s as “nice” as Condon.

Some businesses are taking matters into their own hands. In Alabama, a drive-in movie theater is refusing to show the movie after it debuts next week. “When companies continually force their views on us, we need to take a stand. We all make choices, and I am making mine,” the Christian owners of the Henagar Drive-In Theater wrote on their Facebook page. “I know there will be some [who] do not agree with this decision. That’s fine. We are first and foremost Christians. We will not compromise on what the Bible teaches. We will continue to show family-oriented films so you can feel free to come watch wholesome movies without worrying about sex, nudity, homosexuality, and foul language.”

Good for them! As new numbers show, that’s not only a positive decision, but a profitable one. Even the liberal media is pointing out how unpopular shows with LGBT themes have become. Programs like “Variety,” “Doubt,” “When We Rise,” and “Modern Family” have been “plagued” by low ratings after pushing their agenda on viewers. “The ABC miniseries chronicling the history of the LGBT movement fell almost one million viewers from its premier,” according to the Advocate. Other shows like “Eyewitness” have just been straight-up canceled.

When will these CEOs wake up and realize that the surest way to sabotage their brand is to wade into the Left’s culture wars? As FRC has said from the beginning, every company should have the freedom to drive their reputation in the ground with controversial decisions like this one. But moviegoers also have a choice not to underwrite a message they oppose. And in the end, that’s the ticket — to real change.

How’s the attendance at your church? I walk thru the local churches, from time to time as I still like some of the art. The strange thing is, if I walk thru during a time when one of their services is on there seems to be fewer people than there was 20 years ago.

Disney’s customers are pouring in, but Tony’s customers have voted with their feet. In the words of their prophet “there has been a great falling away from church”. End times, for your business model; the Earth will go on.

Thanks to his friends who sell Coal, Oil and Natural Gas, we might not be going on. The planet will have no troubles without us.

    • clay

And those suburban mega-churches — HUGE turnover rates.

      • Gustav2

SBC isn’t able to replace the elderly dying with younger members. Their numbers are dropping.

    • Tawreos

The better question is, how are FRC’s financials. I haven’t checked FRC in particular in a while, but all of the similar hate groups I have checked had their donations cut in half after the SCOTUS ruling.

      • vorpal

Another great LGBT rights website, Slowly Boiled Frog, has reported in-depth on NOM’s financial records and they are in the throes of death at this point.

Pretty much every penny they get now does nothing other than pay Brian Brown’s hate-salary.

  • Rex

    Keep giving Disney more publicity.
    It’s good for business.

  • AtticusP
    • kevin vincent

Probably wants to beat the ever loving shit out of him with his key blade

  • Ninja0980

Haven’t these assholes been boycotting Disney anyway?

    • Droz

Disney is now under double secret boycott.

  • lukefromcanada

Um modern family has done VERY well. If it hadn’t then it still wouldn’t be on

    • zhera

Tony has nothing but lies to offer his sheep. And he does it so well. They believe every word of his, swallow it down with an ‘amen’ and rush to the bank to give all their money to FRC.

Isn’t it amazing how FRC, OMM, NOM, etc. never whine about violence in movies and TC shows? Graphic violence, war, rape: Not a word. A man singing and dancing, having a ‘gay moment’: SCANDAL! END OF THE WORLD!

    • Reality.Bites

What he could say factually is that when a show is gay lead(s) without at least as strong a straight lead, it fails on broadcast TV – Partners, Ellen, The New Normal.

But when gays are part of the fabric – like Modern Family, Will & Grace, Glee – and even co-leads, the show has as good a chance as any.

Sure, if Disney redid B&TB replacing Belle with a hot bookish nerd (Grant Gustin with glasses?) the movie would not succeed. But this blink-and-you-miss-it moment? They’re only giving it more publicity than it would get on its own.

    • Blake Jordan

He is comparing 7th season ratings to a new hit series, they all drop as the years go by…
Plus ratings in general have been falling across all channels.

    • vorpal

While I do generally enjoy the show, I must say that I really, really dislike the gay couple on Modern Family.

There is zero sexual or romantic chemistry between them, unlike the heterosexual couples, which I suspect was done on purpose to some extent to make them “safe” and nonthreatening to small-minded American audiences.

Also, the fact that their daughter completely disrespects them and goes around acting like the DOMTOP of the house is an insult to families headed by same-sex couples.

There are so many better shows with gay characters out there. I’ve been incredibly impressed at the Real O’Neals, and I was so sad when the New Normal was canceled.

      • Raising_Rlyeh

I don’t watch the show, but isn’t it true that their first kiss was in the background and as you said not very romantic?

      • Charlie3

I still love Modern Family, but I really, really love The Real O’Neals. The gay son’s romantic fantasies crack me up. They are just like any other 16 year old boy’s fantasies.

        • vorpal

LOL yes, how I remember being a horny, virginous 16 year old gay boy… thank goodness I never have to go through THAT again!

          • I remember being a horny and virginal…wait, no I don’t…as soon as I started feeling horny around 11 or 12 I quickly rid myself of that horrid virginity!

          • vorpal

Does finding “creative” uses for the vacuum cleaner and nearly every piece of fruit and vegetable that ever entered the house count?

Because if so, I was also rid of that horrid virginity at age 12 or so. Otherwise, it endured until I was almost 19 when I met my first other gay person who I ended up dating and having sex with by the two week point.

  • argeejay

Methinks closet case Tony PerKKKins is way too focused on sex. Help the poor, PerKKKins. Clothe the naked, PerKKKins. Feed the hungry, PerKKKins. You are a parasite feeding off of fear.

    • jimbo65

He’s so overdue for a rent boy scandal.

  • clay

“a drive-in” Yeah, Tony, I’m sure Disney is quaking in its corporate boots about losing one rural screen.

    • Joe in PA

That was my first thought…ooooh…that’s gotta sting.

  • Mark

Tony PerKKKins is what happens when boys are afraid that anyone would find out they spent their youth running through the house in their momma’s high heels.
    Run, Tonetta. Run!

  • Friday

Gotta love he takes one Alabama drive-in and has to inflate *that* to ‘Some businesses.’ No, Perkins, a bit of subtext does not make a cartoon character a ‘radical left LGBT activist.’ 🙂

    • vorpal

The fact that Alabama still has drive ins combined with the idea that anyone who would actually go to one could afford it is already doubly hilarious.

But of course it’s radical leftist LGBT activists. Probably the same ones putting curses on Trump that can only be fended off by Christians not eating.

      • Friday

Well, drive-ins are supposedly trying to make a comeback, ….I do kind of doubt they can afford to be showing new Disney movies just yet anyway, so it’s probably not really so much of a ‘boycott’ to begin with, though.

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

“Beauty and the Beast” will have one of the largest opening weekends ever. Eat it Tony honey.

  • clay

    But beastiality, “furniture-on-furniture”, and non-consensual relationships . . .
    Tony’s good with all that.

  • Rex

I didn’t think about becoming gay until I watched Modern Family.
    Tony may be onto something.

    • zhera

I watched Modern Family and became gay for gay men. Too bad I’m a woman.

/Just kidding. It happened long before Modern Family.

      • Raising_Rlyeh

        Yaoi fangirl?

        • zhera

          • Raising_Rlyeh

Ah ok, just curious as Yaoi is specifically aimed at women by women.

    • Reality.Bites

Are you team Mitchell or team Cameron?

      • Rex

I’m team Dylan – Reid Ewing, who played Hayley’s boyfriend, who came out as gay.

        • Reality.Bites

However he never did anything on the show to corrupt you.

(Granted, neither did Mitch or Cameron)

          • Rex

            He didn’t have to.
He was dumb and pretty, an irresistible combination.

  • jimbo65

Good luck with the stupid boycott Disney’s a global juggernaut . No fricken way you’re going to make a difference much less a dent. Oh and hahaha! Rubes, rubes, so many rubes.

    • kevin vincent

Remember their Star Wars boycott? Lol

      • jimbo65

Oh God, that movie would have made a billion dollars more if it weren’t for that boycott .lol. I enjoyed it even more thinking there was an anti Trump resistance flavor to it.(so they say)

  • Raising_Rlyeh

    From January 11th:
“ABC led the night on the strength of its comedies. “Modern Family’s” 2.3 rating in adults 18-49 was the highest in primetime”

Seriously though, do they really think they can hurt the corporate octopus that is Disney? Also, LeFou dances with Gaston in the animate version.

    • clay

About 60,000 have signed their petition.
About 120,000,000 have down-loaded the preview.

    • kevin vincent

And was completely and utterly gay for him also I mean come ON!!! Though you could argue everyone was gay for Gaston lol (insert Gaston meme here)

  • The Milkman

Yeah, because the mouth-breathing bigots who follow Tony Perkins have been so successful in their previous boycotts of Disney.

  • Rex

It’s like he thinks that removing LGBT from popular culture will cause us to cease to exist.
    What a dumbass.

    • clay

It kinda works exactly the other way around, but his audience has trouble distinguishing between cause and effect. I blame the church.

    • Uncle Mark

What’s even more pathetic, is that some of them don’t know how “gay” some of their own “Christian” productions are. I was dragged by family to a big lavish Evangelical church production of the Christmas Story. There were moments in this production that my older sister and I were desperately struggling to keep from laughing out loud at the utter gaiety throughout, while everyone else in the place was in rapt awe. The caravans of the Magi were actually more lavish, colorful, sparkly, and gay than anything I had ever seen at Pride parades. The Magis’ costumes would have been too much for even Liberace. Even the angel Gabriel (or in this case Gay-briel), who was flying above the audience, looked like he could fly without the aid of wires. He was swishing through the air, delicately gesturing to people down below and dropping gratuitous amounts glitter he kept in his shorts. (Rip Taylor would have been jealous.). We walked out of there (after laughing at their anti-evolution mural) wondering how many gay folks helped produce this…let alone how many kids got a glimpse of their fabulous calling to the rainbow that evening.

      • Menergy

I enjoyed reading this sooooo much! thank you! Loved the mental pictures you evoked! LOLOL

        • Uncle Mark

Thanks…those were just a couple of the highlights. There was also a good-looking, but chubby Jesus, who we looked at and said, “No way did he fast 40 days & nights in the desert. He obviously had a lot of pizza deliveries.” “More like 40 days & nights WITH dessert.” They also had to roll him off the cross

          • Menergy

            Monty Python-worthy!!! 🙂

    • vorpal

I hear this kind of stupidity all the time:

“We can’t allow so-called ‘gay’ marriage because if everyone was gay, the human race would die off in one generation.”

There are so many things wrong with that statement that it could serve as a complete introductory textbook to a philosophical course on logical fallacies.

  • clay

“The company, which bears almost no resemblance to the man who created it, has transformed from a beloved American icon to one of the most reliable voices for the radical Left.”

It’s a company, a group of organisms, rather than an individual man; it shouldn’t resemble Walt Disney, ‘cuz that would just be weird and gross.

While Disney was alive, his company was known for producing beloved American icons of vacant girls, characterless princes, but super-fabulous Villian Queens.

While Disney was alive, his company was known from cranking out racist dreck, but abandoning that, to Tony Perkkkins, means they’ve become a voice for the radical left.

    • Gustav2

What? Walt wasn’t the nice man he projected on Sunday nights?

      • TexasBoy

Walt was a dreamer and a marketing genius, absolutely in step with 1960s America. And I grew up with Disney and still love it today. But even Walt would likely have had to change with the times or would have had to sell. Remember, in the early 1980s, there was a very real possibility that the parks would be sold…licensed to another company. Michael Eisner was brought in to save Disney, something the Disney family couldn’t do running the company “Walt’s way.”

        • Gustav2

Walt was Steve Jobs…and everything that entails.

          • Bad Tom

            Including the Reality Distortion Field.

But, as far as I can tell, Steve Jobs was neither racist nor homophobic. After all, he did select Tim Cook to succeed him at Apple.

He was a difficult personality, though.

    • Raising_Rlyeh

IMO the best villains Disney made were in the 90s. Though I love maleficent and the fact she was doing it for not getting invited.

      • kevin vincent

        Fairies are MEAN bitches

  • Rob Spangler

If Tonette could have his way this good loving Christian would round us up, put us in camps, then execute us. But then Tonette would have to find someone else to hate to fundraise from. He will pay for his hate, didn’t he get the message when his house was destroyed by floods. How is that mold treating you Tonette?

  • Rex

Rather than boycott, I’ll do something much more effective – I’ll send my thoughts and prayers.

    • clay

. . . but his organization is not primarily religious.

      • Tawreos

Thank you, I needed a good laugh today.

      • It’s ok! Thoughts and prayers work the same on everything and everyone!

        • McSwagg

I don’t know. I heard the fundies struggle to produce “thoughts” that are coherent.

      • McSwagg

“Primarily” implies there is a “secondarily” and possibly a “tertiary” and so on. His organization is EXCLUSIVELY religious. PERIOD!

        • clay

          It’s primarily political.

          • McSwagg

            I’ll up vote that.

  • Reality.Bites

This is a really bad move on their part. The advance box office is huge and the reviews are good. The best they can hope for is no one paying any attention to their boycott calls, because the movie is poised to set all kinds of box office records.

And lots of the little girls who loved the original have little girls of their own now.

    • kevin vincent

Seriously Disney came off with an EXCELLENT 2016 and made bazillions of $$$ and their first 2017 movie is s live action version of one of their most loved movies with Emma FRIEKEN Wattson playing Belle (which I have perfectly cast btw) did they seriously think they would make even a tiny dent? Same with their protesting Star Vs for having a BACKGROUND gay couple kissing, it’s one of their most popular shows period (plus I don’t remember them going after Legend of Korra and Steven Universe)

  • Gigi

When will they realize that their boycotts don’t work? Companies they boycott end up making more money because of it. Being boycotted by hateful talibangelists is good for business.

    • Todd20036

In a sense, their boycotts do work. They prompt the sheeple to give half of their SS checks to Ms. Perkins.
That is really all Toni cares about.

    • Tiger Quinn

Never. It’s an easy way to show your true faith without having to do anything other than shame people.

  • bambinoitaliano

Evangelists like this asshole are like scalpers at the sport, concert and Broadway shows events. They piggy back on these events to grift the public to draw more money for the willing customers. Big corporation like Disney, Starbucks and NFL have no fear of them because they will sell out their merchandise regardless. Unless there are concerting effort to stamp out these scalpers, they have become part of the echo system like the fleas on your pets.

  • TexasBoy

That’s right, folks. Don’t spend money at Disney…send it to the evangelists and buy your way into heaven.

  • castaway

    Hateful hate-group spokes-bigot says WHAT?

  • Tiger Quinn

Disney boycott. You guys are hilarious – it’s troubling should they ever turn on us, but the Disney Machine is wayyyyy too big for you to ever effectively boycott them. And if you mean just THIS movie, okay. You’re never going to see it? Ever? Not at a friend’s house? Not on demand? Or are you really going to torrent it like you threatened, which would make MORE copies of it and send it out into the interwebs (and which I believe is way too complicated for you god fearing brain trusts anyway)? Are you going to turn away in shame when it’s broadcast on tv?

    • Uncle Mark

Odds are that boycotting the movie will only make the movie that much more desirable for their kids to see…so go ahead, FRC fucktards, boycott it…it will only make your kids yearn to see the glorious gay messages ensconced within… ….mwhaaa…haaaa….haaaa

  • Disney boycott? Bitch please. Your contingent couldn’t boycott a dollar general.

  • Reality.Bites
    • Chuck in NYC

And they’re having a lot more fun than that hair-dyed Louisiana puritan.

  • billbear1961

    What “conservative values,” you FASCIST??

Flagrant disrespect for a free press and for the Judicial branch of our government??

Support for GRAFT on an unparalleled scale by those at the summit of government, for baldfaced, pathological LYING by the same on a DAILY basis??

Eagerness to see money-changers in CHARGE of the temples??

Eagerness to bully and torture CHILDREN??

Indifference to FRAUD, to CALUMNY, to TREASON??

Indifference to the abuse of women and children–abuse of EVERY kind–if the abusers are conservative white “Christian” men or boys??

Electing representatives of the PEOPLE who want to let the people SUFFER and DIE without adequate health care??

The grovelling idolization of a hatemonger in the Oval Office who has openly BOASTED of his skills as a SEXUAL PREDATOR??

Yes, that is what “conservative values” has come to mean in this benighted country, in this imperiled republic, you two-faced, jackbooted DEGENERATE!!

    • McSwagg

If you can come up with just two more, you could have these engraved on stone tablets as the Ten Condemnations. Perkolator’s hate would be preserved as a warning to all future generations.

  • Uncle Mark
  • vorpal

“If you’re looking for conservative values at Disney, it really is a small world after all.”

A small world for tiny minds, Tony.
Your intellect isn’t tall enough to be granted admittance to most of the rides at Disneyworld.

  • I’m tellin’ ya, it’ll happen: Right-wing Christians will get fed up and go totally Amish by retreating to gay-free, evolution-free, modern-idea-free enclaves that look like 19th century newspaper illustrations come to life. But with automatic weapons and trucks (domestic brands, of course).

    • clay

      vote-free! please!

  • Blake Jordan

Was Eyewitness ever meant for a second season?
How would they continue: make the boys witness another crime, or…?

    • My thoughts exactly. It was based on the Norwegian series Øyevitne which only ran for one season anyway.

    • Reality.Bites

My understanding is the intent was for it to be an anthology series and the boys and other characters wouldn’t have been back had it been renewed.

      • Blake Jordan

It is better off cancelled then, because the writing was not good and the acting was mostly so so…
The only thing it has going for it, based on the majority of social media (discussion) was Philip & Lukas…
Without them, there is no point.

  • Gerry Fisher

If your values can’t coexist next to ours, then you’re simply being a fascist, Tonette.

  • Blake Jordan

I am disappointed that When We Rise did not do better, it was far from perfect, but still an excellent starting point on the history of LGBTQ+ rights…

  • DaveMiller135

So, Tony, the gay liberation of the 60s and 70s began some 40 to 50 years ago now, and “gay marriage” has been legal somewhere in the States for 14 years. Is it really “too soon” for Disney and the rest of entertainment to acknowledge that gay people exist?

Also, “Modern Family”‘s ratings are way better than yours.

  • JoyZeeBoy

    > The company, which bears almost no resemblance to the man who created it,

By which, of course, you mean the union-busting, racist, anti-semite. You’re right, Ton-Ton. It doesn’t. THANK GOD!

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Pretty soon it will go from boycotts to banning and censorship. What the hell happened?(That’s a rhetorical question.)

  • James

    Ok then, boycott away.

  • JWC

Tony Fuck off!! Of course the Disney company doesn;t remeiin the same as Walt Disney, they have ptogressed with time. You should try it!! Oh and Thanx for the boycott call , everytime you people do that its an endorsement and increases sales

    • Reality.Bites

For one thing, they’re no longer usually on the brink of financial ruin if one release doesn’t do well. (The era of Walt didn’t produce all that many feature-length movies)

      • JWC

and when they tested the waters on non Disney values they did it under “Seachlight pictures”

  • Secure

Duggar and the Beast. Tony, you look like a dark lord of the Sith. The Force is with Disney.

  • Translation from Miss Toni’s rant, “How very dare Disney force us to realize the world isn’t the same as it was 60 years ago! Blacks wandering around everywhere, eating, drinking, in charge of stuff….and WOMEN! Dont get me started on them! They should know their place, at home! Pregnant! Why oh why don’t we just kill those icky nasty gays and be done with their ….delicious man on man sex…oh the sex with a man….hot, steamy, having my face pressed into a hairy chest…….”

  • Sandra Oh

Honestly who gives a crap what this domestic terrorist thinks. Go play on the highway with David Dukes and leave us alone.

  • Robert Adams

Let’s get our panties all up in a bunch over a few minutes of implied homosexuality while ignoring the whole story of implied bestiality.

  • fuzzybits

How’s that mission work helping the homeless under bypasses working Tonette?

  • Charlie3

Tony Perkins does not live in this century.

  • Piona O.

‘Course Walt was an old white man who disparaged others who weren’t, and had his body frozen in a crazy attempt to resurrect himself five thousand years from now. You love that man, Tony? You’re a nut.

  • -M-

It’s the Reich wing grifters and nut jobs like Toni who started a culture war against people and opinions they consider politically incorrect.

  • The Disney Corporation ‘bears almost no resemblance to the man who created it’? Does this prick not see the irony? The same is true of his own damnable religion.
