New Orleans Tourism Bureau Posts Beautiful Affirmation Of LGBT Tourism: We Welcome Everyone [VIDEO]

From the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation:

New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) and members of the New Orleans community gathered together during Mardi Gras 2017 to create a tourism video letting potential visitors know that New Orleans welcomes everyone.

Conceived by NOTMC’s advertising agency of record, 360i, and directed by Trent Jaklitsch of Gravy Films, the spot illustrates New Orleans’ world-renowned hospitality and welcoming spirit through the lens of a street parade – one that begins to move in reverse, with participants removing costumes and makeup, receding into doorways and out of sight. The brass band leading the parade disbands except for one lone bass drummer who steadily keeps a beat.

Spectators look on from the sidewalk, concerned, unsure of what’s happening. Suddenly the bass drummer picks up the tempo, adding a cymbal to the beat, and the parade comes back stronger and more jubilant than ever. Some marchers carry a banner that reads “we’re never going back”, symbolizing that New Orleans will always move forward, and always be open and welcoming to everyone.

The second clip below is their “making of” video.

    Please.

Would there even be a Mardi Gras were it not for the queers?

    • Steve Teeter

      Not as we know it.

It’s worth remembering that in the horrid old days, even in New Orleans, a guy could get harassed on the streets and even arrested if he dressed in a way the cops thought wasn’t masculine enough. If you were just ordered to go home and change you got off lightly. But not on Mardi Gras!

So I can get rid of this milk carton now?

Meanwhile, drunk southern tourist assaults gay resident Key West couple, saying, “You live in Trump country, now.” and that he’ll “cut them up” if they call police.

They called police, and bystanders stood up for them.

Trump has opened up the gates of hell.

That’s what all the attacks are about — including the ones at the Jewish community centers.

      • Chucktech

America Christian Terrorism. That’s exactly what the fuck that is. Call it out as just that.

          Radical Christian-ist terrorism.

I know we’re more worried now about our safety in public here in SWFL.

Gay people spend money – fundies are notoriously cheap.

    • johncAtl

I did my share by supporting the boys at the Corner Pocket this weekend.

    • David Walker

I read somewhere else this morning about a mayor’s remark when the Baptist Convention came to Houston: “They came with the 10 commandments and a $10 bill and didn’t break either one.”

      • David Walker

Drat. (I’m giving up cussin’ for Lent) (Yeah, right) I wish I could remember where I read that. One of the hotels lost money on the the Baptist conventioneers because they wouldn’t drink in the bar, of course, but used up all the freebies in the suites.

        • Stephen Elliot Phillips

probably stole all the shampoo bottles and soap out of the cleaning carts too

          • David Walker

Well, sure. I’m payin’ for it. OK, the ones in the room, but still. Hey, you see those packs of coffee?

        • Chucktech

there so dum thay prolly thot that litl frige in the room wuz awl free…

I hated waiting on fundos when I was a waiter. They were the cheapest, and most unfriendly.

      • Nowhereman

And if you’re gay, they might just give you a prayer card instead of a tip, or one of those phony $100 bills with the anti gay buybull quotes on the flip side. Too bad they don’t wear a sign so we could see them coming. I guess if the state has a religious freedom law, we could refuse to serve them due to our deeply held religious beliefs.

Notice that one of the lesbians removes her wedding ring as she steps backwards…

      • clay

Yep, and then looks her right in the eye.

      • edrex

they have to move forward before they could go back.

      • vorpal

Can’t we just confiscate their membership cards and, like Christians, say, “NOT REAL LGBT PEOPLE!!!!”

OT, yesterday I scheduled a phone call with Arizona State Senator Kavanagh, a vocal supporter of bill 1142 an attack on the guaranteed 1st Amendment right to protest. Today his secretary called right on time, I was expecting a sorry he can’t do it but was pleasantly surprised when she told me he was ready but wanted to let me know the the Speaker of the House will not move forward on this attack. We had a decent conversation, but he did not convince me this was not an attack on our rights.

The Arizona senate took lots of heat from callers like me that demanded answers and would not take this shit lying down. I called several of them and Kavanagh is the only one that talked directly with me instead of messages saying they would return my call. I talked with several of their assistants and they all said they were receiving a lot of calls against this attack on the 1st Amendment.

Stop the police state like your life depends on it cause ….

    • David Walker

Thank you for taking action and congratulations on actually getting to talk to one. At least there’s one will honor a phone appointment.

  • David Walker

Totally OT, mostly, but I’m curious to know what you thought of part 1 of When We Rise? I’m hooked, and I’m hoping like hell that the young ‘uns are watching.

    • edrex

it was better written than i expected from the previews. I’ll definitely watch the remaining episodes.

    • Lazycrockett

I really enjoyed it, but its gonna make me dread the 80’s episodes.

      • David Walker

Yes. I’ll have a ready supply of tissues within reach.

    • PickyPecker

Meh. I went to bed before it was over. As far as the rest of it, if I catch some, I will. Otherwise, I have some catching up to do with ‘Shameless.’

      • David Walker

Ooooh. You’re gonna tell me you don’t have On Demand?

    • Chucktech

I thought it was excellent! And since I will cry at a good card trick, when they used “I’d Love to Change the World” I just about lost it.

      • charliebkk

Ain’t it the truth. I saw TYA in about 1973, one of the best shows I ever saw, and I saw a bunch back i those days.

    • Hue-Man

Liked it, although I’m not sure how many of the references would be picked up by Straight World (I’m not sure I got them all). Fun part was seeing the out lesbian and gay actors, several playing “straight” parts.

    • vorpal

I’m going to watch it tonight. Very excited.
Since here in Chile, I hail from the future (two hours ahead of eastern time), it was on too late for me to download it and watch it.

Donald Trump Blames SEAL’s Death On Military: ‘They Lost Ryan’

    • Chucktech

Yeah, jesus. “Why blame me, I’m just the fucking commander in chief!”

      Motherfucking ass hole.

    • Friday

Disgusting behavior. He and his staff are the ones that ordered a plan that had been shelved because of the very lack of intel that got all those people killed.

    • another_steve

Keeping my fingers crossed: The sexual predator does his usual campaign rally shtick tonight during his address to Congress and all the Democrats stand up en masse and walk out of the chamber.

      Keeping my fingers crossed.

      • PickyPecker

That’s what I want to happen. All the Dems silently get up and walk out while dRUMPf is mid-speech.

        • another_steve

          The signs are there.

I heard that the family of someone murdered by an undocumented immigrant has been assigned choice seats in the chamber. That suggests that Trump is prepared to launch into his usual immigrant bashing.

I can’t imagine the Democrats politely sitting through that.

          I just can’t.

          • The_Wretched

They will sit there. That’s what they do. Their approval ratings in dropping btw. They should be making hay while Trump the Unfit is unpopular but….they aren’t.

          • Chucktech

            They will.

      • Ross

        My fantasy:

During Trumy’s address, ALL of Congress stands up en masse and walks out of the chamber.

        Yep, a fantasy.

        • Todd20036

Really? My fantasy includes Chris Maloni and Chris Kluwe
          But yours is nice, too.

          • another_steve

            Well, yeah.

            That too.

          • DonnaLee

So does mine, if we’re going to fantasize, might as well go big or go home.

    • Rex

Just watch – Trump will never admit to doing anything wrong, will never accept blame, or that a mistake was his doing. He will not let the buck stop with him.

    • Ninja0980

      What a POS.

    • Nychta

      Thanks, Obama. From the article:

“This was a mission that was started before I got here. This was something they wanted to do,” he said. “They came to me, they explained what they wanted to do ― the generals ― who are very respected, my generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan.”

      • -M-

Pay close attention to the illogical contortions:

Taking credit for having “great” generals, that he inherited, while also blaming them for failure that’s due to his thoughtless recklessness.

    • clay

Yeah, the SEAL’s father basically told Trump “fuck you.”

      • M Jackson

The fathers of slain heroes tend to do that.

  • safari

(Gratuitous O/T: How is it possible that teleconferencing software has gotten worse in recent years?)

  • Rex

Not much that doesn’t bring a tear to my eyes these days.
Tears of sorrow, but there is joy behind that sorrow.
We’re never going back. Believe it.

  • We had fun, it was pretty subdued compared to what I remember when I used to drink. But here ya’ll go. Happy Mardi Gras! (tried to upload a pic of us, but it didn’t work.)

  • marshlc

This is really quite lovely, but, sorry, no. None of my tourism money will be going to the US for the foreseeable future. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/28/in-that-moment-i-loathed-america-i-loathed-the-entire-country?CMP=fb_gu

You, Liberty, Liberty, whom we love
You, Liberty, Liberty, whom we want
Be our hope and our strength
    Be our joy, our happiness
Each day we will be able to sing higher
    Sing each day further
Sing joyfully this hymn of faith
Liberty, Liberty, I believe in you
    Liberty, Liberty, be our law
O You who can give hope
O You who can make joy ring
O Liberty, Liberty, whom we love
    Be always closer to us
Be always closer to our hearts

    Far from us slavery
    Far from us prisons
Never again privileges (for the few)
Far from us famines and massacres
Far from us the time of tyrannies
We will sing your name forever, “Liberty”
    We believe in You.

I and two other members of the Big Easy Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are in this (you can see our current Abbess, second person to the left in the still shot). I think I appear for two seconds around second 54 (out of 60). I have quartered my face into white and red and blue, with a white hat. We worked on this from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm about three weeks ago.
