REPORT: Michael Flynn’s National Security Council Replacement To Be Ret. Vice Admiral Robert Harward

Reuters reports:

The Trump administration has offered the job of White House national security adviser, vacated by former U.S. intelligence official Michael Flynn, to Vice Admiral Robert Harward, said two U.S. officials familiar with the matter on Wednesday.

It was not immediately clear if Harward, a former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command who has Navy SEAL combat experience, had accepted the offer, according to sources. A White House spokesperson had no immediate comment.

Flynn resigned on Monday after revelations that he had discussed U.S. sanctions on Russia with the Russian ambassador to the United States before President Donald Trump took office. Losing his national security adviser so soon after taking office is an embarrassment for the new Republican president, who has made national security a top priority.

  • Rex

    Welcome to the swamp, Admiral.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

I’m pre-emptively ashamed to admit that I find him attractive. Not that I know anything about him, but since he’s a Trump pick….. where there’s Drumpf, there’s stank.

  • Friday

Well, let’s find out who this guy is. Yaknow, they could have decided to go for a safe choice but… that’s not been their pattern.

  • andrew

Hopefully Harward is not another Russian apologist.

  • Lazycrockett

Pubris must have Drumpf’s ear at the moment cause you know Bannon and co wanted Petraeus.

    • Sam_Handwich

lol, isn’t he still on probation for leaking classified material?

      • Lazycrockett

        Pardoned!

      • Yep, until April.

    • Gustav2

Rehashing the Petraeus scandal might not be a good idea after Flynn.

    • robirob

It’s still early in the modern day reign of terror for Flynn’s successor having to resign and be replaced by Petraeus. I’d say, two months tops?

    • Treant

On second thought, wait for it. Sunset on Friday may mark the beginning of Petraeus’ ascension in the White House. Two of three voices of reason become unavailable.

  • bkmn

Do you really want to put your name that close to the swamp? Wise people wouldn’t, power hungry people would.

    • Joe in PA

That’s what I was thinking about Gorsuch…he will forever be tainted by his appointer.

      • edrex

and he was appointed by taint.

  • ErikDC

I know nothing about him, but a Vice Admiral should know something about a sinking ship.

  • boobert

There must be something wrong with him too! No one with any sense would take a job trump offers.

    • another_steve

Heard a TV analyst suggest he’s a sure-fire go. Strong bipartisan support. Very respected in the intelligence community.

  • Republicans just couldn’t be sure if Flynn was beating his wife or his illegal maid.

  • Lazycrockett

    Im worried.

Harward played sports against Iranian basketball and football teams, was popular with his classmates and became familiar with the people and culture of Iran.[3] Harward graduated from Tehran American School in 1974. He speaks Farsi.[4]

  • vernacular100

He just stubbled into Trumps Gin joint…he could have done better!

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

He appears to be quite qualified. I don’t understand.

    • I think it means Priebus and Pence are calling a lot of the shots now, all of a sudden.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

The buzz is that Bannon, Stone and the “nationalists” in Trump circles are out to get Priebus. Stone seemed to imply yesterday that they think Priebus is the source of the leaks.

        • Not to be contrary, but I think a more accurate term is “open fascists.”

          • That_Looks_Delicious

Yup. I was just repeating the (unjustifiably) polite language that was used in news outlets.

        • -M-

          So many factions:

          Russia apologists
          Neo-Nazi nationalists
          Theofascists
          Trump nepotists
          Petty Republican tyrants
          Goldman Sachs

          • olandp

            Talk about diversity!

        • The_Wretched

Stone is incapable of telling the truth.

        • KnownDonorDad

I’d carry a Geiger counter if I were Priebus.

    • Cousin Bleh

He wrote this column for HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-s-harward/half-of-our-potential_b_4086312.html

“What makes us a great country — and a military superpower — is the integration of women into the force. And it starts with education.”

How did they sneak this guy past Trump?

      • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Very nice! Thanks for the link.

      • Well, given Pence is pretty much a misogynist, I’d say he’s primarily a favorite of Reince. But there’s not much question a CoS could do this on is own, so my current working theory — until I’m convinced otherwise, because I have been wrong many times before — is Priebus and Pence are working their cabal to try to limit the damage…and to set the stage for what I believe will inevitably be Pence shoving Donald under the bus at some opportune moment.

        • KnownDonorDad

The main problem I have with that cabal is that half of it is a Dominionist. But I’ll take that cabal (I can scarcely believe I’m saying this), given that the other cabal is Bannon and Miller, who are vicious and incompetent.

    • KnownDonorDad

He lived in Iran and speaks Farsi, too. Looks like Trump decided to go with the Mattis mold rather than the Flynn mold in making this choice. Good.

  • shantih aum
    • Cousin Bleh

Oh hi there. I wouldn’t mind being his rear admiral.

    • David Wickham

      damn

    • Gay Fordham Prep Grad

      Looking good for 60!!!

    • Derrick Johns

Nice picture of him. Nice bicepts. Flat belly with perfect abdominals Nice thighs & legs. But we can’t see his booty. Does he have a booty? A booty is essential.
Harward doesn’t look like a typical Nazi to me. But, again, we haven’t seen the booty.

    • Gerry Fisher

He must give all of his press conferences shirtless.

    • Gianpiero

Might be worth having him at the White House just for the chance of him calling out Bannon as a bloated slob.

    • Jeffrey

      Well hello, daddy.

    • Charlie In SF

      nice piece

    • narutomania

Yowzah!! I was just looking up shirtless and uhhh pantsless pics of him. Thanks for sharing !!!!

    • SDG

      OMFG!

  • Meanwhile, as this shit-hurricane continues and Donald the Snowflake is planning yet another fucking weekend vacay — including a campaign rally to fluff his damaged ego (taxpayer funded, no doubt) — this is happening:

    https://twitter.com/LucasFoxNews/status/831847716506497027

I have to ask: Are we mere weeks away from Russian troops in the streets? I know, feels like hyperbole, but the Russians are deliberately being provocative now and NOTHING is happening and it sure as fuck seems like the Donald Dipshit administration truly doesn’t care. (Neither do the Republicans, apparently.)

    • BobSF_94117

Pretty sure any Russian troops you find in the streets are here to apply for asylum.

    • RepublicansRNotConservative

Russians, Republicans, who can tell the difference?

      • Jeffrey

        Currently zero difference

        • Greg Oleson

Remember when us lefties were the “commies”?

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Yep. And a couple days ago, Kim Jong-Un’s brother was assassinated (poisoned!) by two North Korean women operatives in an airport in Malaysia, which was just officially confirmed yesterday. I can’t remember who recently said it on Twitter, but we are in a Tom Clancy novel.

    • BearEyes

practically in my backyard and big local news here. Coast Guard Academy is also just down the street as well.

      • ColdCountry

I grew up not far from there. (Next river to the west.) I suppose it’s a good thing that the Underwater Sound Lab has moved?

    • Uncle Mark

The Russians can afford to be brazen about this, knowing that Trump has his face so far up Putin’s ass, that he couldn’t see anything past Putin’s polyps…let alone Russian ships off the coast. Add to that the chaos in his regime and introduced into the military branch and NSC, Trump has already compromised the safety of this country.

Now would be the perfect time for Russia to launch an attack…except the only kind of attack they could successfully launch here would be of a nuclear variety. (A bit too provocative for even Putin.) More likely, they are gathering intelligence and testing our reactions, should they decide to move onto the Baltic States or further into the Ukraine.

This may even be a sad attempt to create some false narrative to take the heat off Trump. “If Russia liked Trump, then why are they moving ships off the coastline now.”

      • ColdCountry

They like Trump, they’re coming to visit him.

    • Dagoril

Maybe the Russians can help with the Oroville Dam. God knows Drumpf doesn’t give a crap about it.

      • Danieruw

You mean he hasn’t tweeted about it yet? How odd…

    • Lily A Jafarian

And…the GOP filed their bill to de-fund the nuclear weapons test ban program that monitors the world’s despots’ dreams of making their own weapons of mass destruction……Because Protect America talking point is so out of fashion. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/02/13/republicans-move-to-strip-away-nuclear-test-ban-funding.html

  • That_Looks_Delicious

OT – Nice going, Floriduh. They finally finished counting the number of ballots in Florida where they voted for somebody who wasn’t a legitimate candidate and it was 161,000. Trump only beat Hillary in Florida by 113,000.

    http://www.startribune.com/protest-161-000-florida-voters-failed-to-vote-for-president/412466473/

    • HZ81

      Shame Nun says “Shame.”

Sorry, Floridian JMGers. I really want to put up the gate and put the For Sale sign up on your state.

    • OdieDenCO

love to know where those 161,000 “under votes” came from, paper or machine?

      • That_Looks_Delicious

The 161,000 were people who either voted for nobody on the presidential portion of the ballot or else wrote in “Ronald McDonald” or “Harry Potter” or something like that. At least in the latter case, I think it has to be a paper ballot. I’m not sure how you could write in a non-candidate’s name on a machine ballot.

    • KnownDonorDad

A lot were for Harambe. Seriously.

  • DrRobY

Not knowing anything about the man, I’m gonna be completely shallow here—damn he’s very nice to look at.

  • Lazycrockett
  • Stogiebear

Hopefully this one has at least been retired long enough not to require special dispensation from the Senate to be considered for the job.

  • Treant

So what are Harward’s Russian connections, since I doubt Vlad will allow anybody without them?

Honestly, the tree is rotten. All the fruit is tainted. Do. Not. Touch.

    • edrex

exactly what I was thinking. he might not have yet talked to the russians, but he must be willing to be cucked by them like the rest of trump’s team.

      • Treant

Yep. Just because he’s fuckable doesn’t mean I’ll be diving in without a background check.

        • Adam King

Trojan’s new line of patriotic condom: the “Background Check.” “Don’t dive in without one!”

        • edrex

that’s more than the trump administration has done.

  • LesbianTippingHabits

Well, at least Bob Harward is known to tip generously for good service.

Remember, tips are good karma. And karma never lies. Thank you.

  • popebuck1

“Losing his national security adviser so soon after taking office is an embarrassment for the new Republican president, who has made national security a top priority.”

    Yeah, but which nation?

  • Acronym Jim

“It was not immediately clear if Harward, a former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command who has Navy SEAL combat experience, had accepted the offer, according to sources.”

Given this regime’s previous track record, the announcement was probably news to him too.

  • Paul David

I’m surprised the position wasn’t offered to the Russian ambassador!

  • westford

“Losing his national security adviser so soon after taking office is an

“I think this [the ouster of Flynn] is Pearl Harbor for the true Trump supporters, the Trump loyalists,” said Roger Stone, a former Trump campaign adviser and longtime Republican operative who still has a relationship with Trump. “I believe Reince Priebus moved on General Flynn and I think he intends to move on Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller next.

Oh please, please, please….. Drain the Steves! Strange bedfellows and all, but I’ll say it: go Priebus!
