Breitbart Warns Hollywood: Get In Line Behind Trump Or We’ll Launch Campaign To Steal All Your Movies

Breitbart yesterday warned Hollywood’s celebrities that unless they get in line behind Trump, a concerted campaign to steal their movies will be launched. They write:

These condescending lectures have also helped spark another, more nefarious behavior…theft. Evidence of this practice can be seen anecdotally in the comment threads of conservative entertainment media. But data also shows new genres of piracy taking hold. A 2016 report, written by this writer, revealed a renaissance in “stream ripping” – software that allows users to rip audio from streaming music videos. Thirty percent of Internet users report using stream ripping – an unauthorized downloading behavior riling an industry that has suffered a 60% revenue decline from its 2000 high.

A similar software is impacting Tinseltown – a peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol called BitTorrent, with the most popular app being Popcorn Time. This software allows users to access newly released films and TV shows with a library that far exceeds any subscription streaming service, and at a much cheaper price…namely, zero. The eloquent user interface rivals Netflix, and is sending shudders down the spine of film underwriters. In 2015, the app was reportedly being downloaded an astonishing 100,000 times per day. And remarkably, Popcorn Time has persistently evaded anti-piracy efforts.

So before breaking ground on these new political endeavors, Hollywood should rethink its political posturing. The industry is teetering towards a boycott by an enormous, fully engaged segment of the population that clearly has other options. As the music industry has shown, long-term behavior can forever change. And if this past election cycle has revealed anything, it’s that Tinseltown no longer holds a monopoly on shaping cultural mores. So why risk it with political lectures?

No shit…I had to go to the way-back machine to remember Napster. Remember when that was illegal? I think they’ve gone mainstream.

I had the distinct pleasure of REMOVING that from our computer in about 2001 after our teenage son installed it and turned out computer in to a ‘host’. We had a high speed DSL connection at the time and of course the faster the connection, the more hits you got. Ugh.

      • Droz

Tell him high school me was grateful for the bandwidth. 😛

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Kaye made this big spiel one day that she(?) Is a white hat. And she came very close to getting her macedonian hands on hillarys illegal emails. But thats almost got her hands on them. Seems these people almost get the evidence. Isnt that just as good as having the evidence? Lol

      • CanuckDon

Without Audiogalaxy back then, I would never have been able to get my hands on all of those hot bootleg and white label remixes….so it wasn’t just your teenage son having fun.

        • Cousin Bleh

Audiogalaxy was incredible. Such a simple web interface unlike Napster and even current torrent clients that require a bit of research and understanding.

Of course, those services killed local record shops, including the gay ones that specialized in white labels and DJ mixes.

Breitbart represents the largest collection of “snowflakes” on the internet. This is their safe-space. Far away from the realities and facts that are so hard to “deal” with. You either agree with everything they say, or they ban you.

Fuck ALL of these people. They’re a lost cause. The hatred is now so ingrained that they won’t EVER be able to use common sense or reason again.

It was “okay” for the Republican lawmakers to pass voter disenfranchisement laws stripping felons of the right to vote, because the lawmakers are Republicans. And it will be okay for these clowns to be stripped of their rights to vote after they are convicted of a felony, because they are Republicans.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

Wait, why is he reporting as if Bit torrent is something new? Fucking pirate’s bay is a bit torrent site. People will always pirate, and fuck who here hasn’t, but people will still pay to see the movie in theaters or for a physical copy. Hell, when I really like something I buy a physical copy. The only times I pirate is either I can’t get the movie on dvd or even vhs, certain shows that got cancelled will never get releases, or if the price is insanely expensive.

    • Rebecca Gardner

They are not a very smart bunch over there. I’m amazed they didn’t provide instructions for how to set up you VHS recorder to copy movies playing on HBO and then share them with your friends.

      What a bunch of “morans.”

      • Raising_Rlyeh

Kind of funny because my mom and one of her girl friends used to do that all the time in the 80’s. We had thousands of movies and tv shows on vhs. I loved watching tales from the crypt on vhs in the 90s once I was born.

  • I’ve been blocked by Breitbart for a while now. Anybody over there taunting them?

    • Rebecca Gardner

I wish. I’ve been blocked by them for years. They are highly allergic to facts and reality.

      • M Jackson

I just posted this, i fling feces there occasionally and have not been banned. Becca, I lifted your tweet.

“Clearly Breitbart should be ready for an F.B.I. investigation for
publicly encouraging massive copyright violations. The days of
lawlessness under the trump kleptocracy should be very short-lived.”

  • Conservatives can’t make their own damn movies without gays dressing them, making them up, feeding them, writing screenplays, designing their drapes, and writing their music, so they threaten to not pay for the movies they desprately want.

That only makes us care less about what movies they want to watch.

    • clay

Hollywood’s movies don’t turn on a dime; the movies coming out this year had principal photography completed before Trump was even a nominee.

Breitbart fans’ movies, however, are wrapped in under four hours.

  • Halou

    Déjà vu., anyone?
Breitbart says that film studios should be hacked, right after a North Korea related incident… Like we’ve not seen this before.

So North Korea fires a missile, and Trump holds an improvised national security session in full view of the public and uses easy-to-compromise camera phones to see top secret documents.
The public naturally says this is a problem and remembers how tetchy Trumpanzees got over the suggestion that Hillary was less than perfect when it came to national security matters. Ignoring the fact she was ironically vindicated by the fact the only Democrat party emails that weren’t hacked by the Russians were those held on private servers (Clinton’s were voluntarily given to investigators by Clinton herself).
Anyway… It turns out that “lecturing” Saint Donald, first King of America, on issues of national importance is too much for his Breitbart army and thus warrants retaliation. What to do? Well since this all started with North Korea why not turn to them for help?

  • Clive Johnson

What the breit-chumps can’t seem to comprehend is that if people are ripping off movies, it’s not because they’re in agreement with right-wing politics, it’s because they want something for free.

Or, perhaps the writer knows this quite well, but in the duopoly of dumbness that exemplifies breitbart–clueless writers writing for a clueless audience–such articles can be written without protest by anyone associated with that junky website.

  • JT

Breitbart going full Nazi. “If you don’t do what we want, we will break the law to go after you.”

  • danolgb

Wow! They’re just now realizing Bittorrent is a thing? These guys really are living in the past.
Next they’ll be telling us how the kids are holding up their tape recorders to their radios.

    • CB

When you were little and had no money, how else did you get “Incense and Peppermints?” #datingmyself

  • M Jackson

It figures that the trump-ian vision of pro-business America would
include massive piracy and copyright violation. That’s how things work
    in his swamp.

    • clay

(to add to his elimination of consumer protection information)

  • 1. This pertains to people asking about Brietbart or any web site blocking them. Web sites are usually blocking your IP address, not your account “name”. Just mask your IP address and you can look at what you want — or make up a new user name and go surf at a local Wifi location, or even though a generous neighbor’s non password protected router if one if available. However, if you are being blocked, why bother contribute to anyone’s revenue by boosting their web traffic numbers with constant traffic?
    2. Bittorrent sharing is dangerous and a red flag to law enforcement in the USA. Never, ever share Bittorrent files at Popcorn or any other content sharing web site with an open IP address if it can be traced back to you- which it can be over 90% of the time. Encrypt your address, or follow the advice above — however, online encryption slows transfer rates down in many cases — and don’t get your neighbor in trouble either by doing this through their router. Although the studios may not be cracking down on this now at Popcorn, they were in the past — you are setting yourself up for a nice big law suit that you might need to pay a few thousand dollars to get out of. Do not do it in the USA. Other jurisdictions are not as risky. Just do the right thing and pay the content creators if you want to see a movie —— its not much money to see a flick online anyway.

    • basedonfact

This is like saying Don’t rob the stores in your own neighborhood and don’t use your own car for the getaway vehicle. You parasites are why I have to pay MORE to LEGALLY access movies. There is nothing noble about stealing. You are no better than the average street thug. In fact you are worse because you are a coward hiding behind a keyboard

      • You sure about that? My comment actually says the opposite. Why don’t you reread it —

        • basedonfact

You are telling people how to get away with criminal activity.

          • WretchedMouse

Seems his conclusion gives away his intent:

“Just do the right thing and pay the content creators if you want to see a movie —— its not much money to see a flick online anyway.”

It can be done with the above information but you will still get caught so pay for the fing thing is what I gathered from it.

          • But the gist of his post was it’s illegal so don’t do it it’s not worth the trouble or risk

  • Bad Tom

FALL IN LINE, or we will ineptly try to vandalize your income stream!! — Brietbart “News”
    ——-
Meanwhile, we’ve done a fair job of savaging ours.

What a principled, thoughtful approach to winning over your opponents!

  • basedonfact

So taking stuff without paying for it is OK?

  • Bj Lincoln

Screw them. Why are we giving them any play? It is still a hate site run by morons who have nothing better to do but make shit up and see if it sticks.

  • greenmanTN

Like Hollywood doesn’t have well paid lawyers? Don’t make threats you can’t follow through on. I’m not a huge fan of our alleged justice system, but there is entertainment value to watching Pepe The Frog being scraped off the bottom of someone’s shoe.

    • grada3784

      I’d pay to see that.

  • Charlie In SF

So the Trump administration is now suborning copyright theft?

  • Ninja0980

So now the Trump folks are pushing theft?

  • teeveedub

Can someone explain to me what an “eloquent user interface” is supposed to be?

  • sfjohn

hopefully the shit known as breitbart will soon be swirling down the drain along with frumpty-trumpty

  • HZ81

Bwaaahaaa! Yeah, NOW piracy is going to be a real problem for the industry. Shut the fuck up you racist ass-clowns.

  • Tom Mears

Assuming one of their readers took this as a green light to act on this, wouldn’t this constitute a conspiracy to commit a crime under the DCMA? It’d be a federal case too, because they are soliciting participants from multiple states.

  • Blake J Butler

They call people “snowlakes”, but they get their feelings hurt so much that they boycott corporations that are against them.

And BTW snowflakes, form snow, snow together can cause avalanches.

  • The Bittorent LawSuits of the past were especially nefarious because some worked like this. http://www.newyorker.com/business/currency/the-biggest-filer-of-copyright-lawsuits-this-erotica-web-site
    1. Aggressive Law Firm contacts content provider and says “how would you like half of all money we collect from ripped off content that you never knew you could get from internet file sharing? Content provider, in the past online porn movie producers for example, jump on idea. (see Malibu Media http://www.newyorker.com/business/currency/the-biggest-filer-of-copyright-lawsuits-this-erotica-web-site )
    2. Bittorrent files are subpoenaed, and although it is complicated, cable provider AND email provider (like Yahoo or Gmail) sometimes need to be subpoenaed in tandem to figure out exactly who is the owner of an IP. BTW you should not be storing emails for more than a year on external file servers (Gmail for example).
    3. Individual people get a subpoena from a sleazy law firm that says this — You are being sued. We have records that you accessed this movie (or whatever). You can fight this or pay us $3,0000 (or whatever) to settle out of court.
    In essence it is blackmail.

  • NancyP

Piracy is old news. I see no evidence that the Trump crowd will give up movies if the studios do their job and prosecute copyright violators. Furthermore, the Trump types are still likely to be cable/satellite TV users, and the studios get a sizable amount of income from cable. I would have to say that most people who watch TV more than a few hours a week are still likely to be using cable. It’s the Libruls who are more likely to have never gotten or have left cable. (I resemble that statement – never bothered with TV much – too busy using the public library.)

  • Javier Smith

Weird Al would like to have a word with them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGM8PT1eAvY

  • gOf

Why is it a problem for Breitbart readers to use an easily prosecuted BitTorrent service like Popcorn Time? I encourage it whole heartedly!

Dealing with RIAA lawsuits will give them stuff to do.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

    Boycott what you steal?

  • grada3784

Confirmed by Breitbart: Conservatives are Thieves.

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

Well i guess if hollywood started making more movies geared toward intelligent people, then the alt-right would have nothing to steal.
We all know the nazis only watch violent b-rate crap, with tits and ass thrown in…

  • Pip

What happened to thou shalt not steal?

This is more proof that the Neo Nazis are years behind the rest of the world if they are JUST NOW discovering the world of bittorrent. That shit’s been around for over 12 years now in its current form.

And good luck keeping all of the viruses off of your computers downloading from torrent sites…

  • Oh, Parker

My husband and I are literally sitting here sipping Starbucks and howling at this.

  • Friday

Right-wingers threaten to be more of thieves and thugs if American citizens don’t toe their party line? Hrm. Where have we heard *that* before.

  • Larry in Oklahoma

He’s not entirely correct when he says “Internet users ..using stream ripping – an unauthorized downloading behavior riling an industry that has suffered a 60% revenue decline from its 2000 high.” This is wrong on two counts. First off, it’s NOT illegal (unauthorized, as he calls it) to download anything for one’s personal use. It IS illegal to share it or make copies of it. Secondly, his perceived “loss” is merely a change in the way people get their entertainment. There are many more ways to watch a movie than in 2000. I can’t say I agree with the 60% decline figure either.

    • basedonfact

It is illegal to download copyrighted information without the consent of the owner. Personal use does not get you out of MPAA fines in the thousands. Pirated movies are not legal for ANY use

  • Blake Jordan

Surely it is a crime to convince others to commit a crime?

  • bambinoitaliano

Steal movies? What rocks have they been living under? Never heard of various popular torrent sites? Great strategy to alert the MPAA of it’s intention. The pitbull of Hollywood has endless supplies of financial backing to litigate till the end of time. The MPAA and it’s affiliate reaches deep into many foreign countries working with the local governments. By all means, don’t waste another second.

  • bobbyjoe

I like how Breitbart has to explain to their readers what BitTorrent is. Perhaps their next edgy article will also help their readers figure out how to finally stop “12:00” from blinking on the front of their VCRs.

    • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

      VCRs.

      *snerk*

  • Dave Babler

    1. Advocating criminal activity?
    2. Admitting to using and accessing pirated movies?
You know how litigious Hollywood is…this is basically painting a giant target on your back.

  • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Dude, nobody wants Kirk Cameron, Chuck Norris, or Scott Baio movies.

    Nobody does. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/416b5e8ffd379375718702aa7ae6ee5827700e7b5c3f707857ae92f79ba83cb2.jpg

  • MonochromeMouse

Piracy has done all the “damage” it can possibly do to hollywood, and they’re still going strong. Movies now leak to places like pirate bay and putlocker within days of them premiering in theaters, sometimes even before they hit theaters. There is literally nothing breitbart and the neo-nazis can do to hurt them with piracy.

  • glass

“Popcorn Time”? Who the hell uses this shit? Just type a title into Google and you can find that movie on many websites for free. Movies playing in theaters right now will show up. You just need a good adblocker and you can watch just about anything… in the world!
The bannon breitbart botz are trying to scare the movie industry? They already know there is way worse happening than “Popcorn Time”. People are recording movies in the theater and posting them online.

  • Frank Conway

Nothing says “Law and Order” candidate like a threat to break the law and steal!

  • DaveMiller135

“The industry is teetering towards a boycott by an enormous, fully
engaged segment of the population that clearly has other options.”

As I understand it, your “other options” involve stealing, rather than paying for, the entertainment provided by “Hollywood.” That option has always been open to thieves. Now, you’d be onto something, if you said we’re going to only watch indie films, and pay the producers of those films, instead of the producers of mainstream films we don’t watch. But you’re just planning to watch the Hollywood productions without paying. Putting you and yours on a par with every schoolyard bully who ever stole someone’s lunch money.

The last straw for me was when Tony Stark hired Pepper Potts as his personal assistant when he already had a much more qualified male-voiced robot valet to do the job.

  • Crow on a Top Hat

*eyeroll* The reason people pirate things is because the content isn’t always easily available. That’s why game of thrones and such are highly pirated internationally.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

That and the pricing. Some products are just ridiculously marked up that it becomes out of reach for many consumers. When getting HBO on top of your regular cable price and/or buying the DVD/Blu-ray when they come out is expensive.

  • Clive Johnson
    • Andymac3

      Oh look, my neighbours

  • CandyDarling

I guess the intelligence level over at Breitbart is too low to realize 21st Century Fox films and Fox News are the same company. Go ahead, bankrupt them.

  • Orly

    A similar software is impacting Tinseltown – a peer-to-peer file-sharing
protocol called BitTorrent, with the most popular app being Popcorn
    Time.

Wow – you are about a decade late you morons. Seriously, these people are so unbelievably ignorant.

  • Secure

The Bible says if you steal you burn in hell for all eternity. Aren’t they mostly Christian? You’re going to BURN!!!! It’s one of the Ten Commandments you idiots.

  • TheManicMechanic

Simple solution. Blame Shitefart (a word that hilariously gets autocorrected to “whiteface” here) and users for the piracy of music and films, and make life a legal hell for them. Entertainment industry lawyers have been drooling at the prospects of attacking sure fire targets of piracy, now here is the official promoter and source.

  • BillTheCat45

Hahahhahaha Breitbrat losers. Andy is still dead, Trump is as good as finished, and their dipsht empty threats are a joke.

  • gwhiz007

Nothing says “moral correctness” like coercion.

  • John Kusters

Do I understand this correctly? They’re threatening to do something they’re already doing? This seems… pointless.

  • Janet Noll

Trumps should tell the FBI hands off peer to peers (P2P) and that will bring Hollywood to its knees.
