Blondie – Fun [AUDIO]

The new Depeche single prompted a Twitter follower to point out that Blondie also has a new single this week. And it’s disco. Squee! Via Official Charts:

Blondie are back! The new wave legends are to release their new album later this year. Founded by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, Blondie are now into their fifth decade of recording, and celebrated their 40th anniversary in music in 2014. Now they have returned with new single Fun, available to download and stream now.

Written by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, Fun is the lead single from Pollinator, Blondie’s eleventh studio record set for a May 5 release. The collection follows 2014’s Blondie 4(0) Ever, a double album comprising the band’s 10th studio album Ghosts of Download, and compilation Greatest Hits Deluxe Redux.

i love it when Joe ‘squees.’

    • Rex

I want to experience it in real time.

      • Lars De

Umm yeah, I’d watch you make each other squee. My apologies, if there is a gutter I’m naturally drawn to it.

        • Darling will you mind your elbows please this gutter is crowded!

  • Pretty fun, but unfortunate that they feel a need to add SO MUCH electronic nonsense to Debbie’s voice.

As with photography, you never know what’s real and genuine today and what’s not.

      “Have technology, must use.”

When I was younger, I wanted to be as cool as Debbie Harry. I never made it, but I am okay with that since no one else has either.

    She’s just fucking cool.

    • I’m 51 and STILL want to be as cool as Debbie Harry, tbh.

    • Duh-David

When I was younger, I was as cool as Debbie Harry — at least that’s what she told me. Okay, okay, maybe it was a drag queen who looked like Debbie Harry … it still counts.

      • HZ81

        Works for me.

She was a guiding force for me when I was just a little budding gay boy. From her I gained that being different was something to be celebrated, not something to hide. In essence a straight woman showed me that being gay was going to be great, it just so happened that she was the coolest fucking straight woman in the world.

    • Picture it, New York City 197-something, waiting in line to get into some downtown club with my roommate/friend (oops I’ve dropped something!) Anna Sui, some chick wearing a hat like this https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/951de2d45af6dda881007abea9f96462348fb9ec87abc8d3ee3b4ea2414d3588.jpg
chatting up Debby Harry who was just ahead of us in line. Debby just stares at that hat and says “Ole!” with a little finger snap then ignores the chatty chick

      • HZ81

OMG, that’s awesome! I’m so jealous. You bitch! I love you.

disco needs a reboot. we need to be dancing in the face of all this shit.

    • another_steve

Bring Donna Summer back from the dead and let’s dance.

      • Rex

Trump thinks she’s still alive, and Spicer confirms it!

        • Randy Left Brooklyn

Both of them saw Donna dancing with Frederick Douglass at the inauguration. Donna and Freddie were babbling about the Bowling Green Massacre.

          • another_steve

            Oh yes, I saw that.

On the “Blacks Only” dance floor, they were.

      • bambinoitaliano

Hopefully the haunting Donna Summer will lure the shit gibbon to her grave with …….I need you, by me,
        Beside me, to guide me,
To hold me, to scold me,
        ‘Cause when I’m bad
        I’m so’ so bad
So let’s dance, the last dance
        Let’s dance, the last dance
Let’s dance, this last dance tonight……..

Good homosexuals that we are, my husband and I had the deejay play that as the last song at our marriage reception three years ago.

    • Punk Rock too

      • ralphb

Try “Nothing Feels Natural” by Priests, or “Ugly Cherries” by PWR BTTM or “Life Without Sound” by Cloud Nothings or “Near To The Wild Heart of Life” by Japandroids. That should fix you up nicely.

      • greenmanTN

More Proto-Punk than Punk, but an appropriate song for these times…

        • Randy Left Brooklyn

          I really enjoyed that. Thanks

          • greenmanTN

It felt somehow appropriate at the moment. To me The Skin Deep are those who react outward, reflexively, never question their prejudices or underlying motives, always lash out but never look inward or are honest about themselves. They aren’t capable of insight, so they are skin deep.

But this is the song they are most famous for, because it was used in a movie once, and I like it a lot.

  • Megrim Twist

Debbie is timeless, the band is tight and amazing and I need this right now more than anything!

  • greenmanTN

I’m glad they have something new coming out, but I preferred Rock Debbie to Disco Debbie.

Some Debbie weirdness from a few years ago: Debbie butchers a life-sized cake of herself and serves it to the crowd.

    Holding up the heart…..

  • LovesIrony

My prize possession is Debbie’s lip prints on her parent’s business card. My father used to work with one of her closest friends and met her several times. He asked her to kiss the card. Dad gave it to me for Christmas.

  • Blobby

it’s a fair song at best. Debbie isn’t quite auto-tuned, but the song is WAY over produced…..and poor Deb is singing in a range she’ll never ever ever be able to match when slinging live. I’m more interested that Laurie Anderson is going to appear on the album.
