US Navy Conducts Transgender Policy Training

I don’t know how much longer we’ll get press releases like this one, which is from the Navy Office of Community Outreach. Here is their photo caption:

Capt. Jeffrey Ward, commanding officer of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), facilitates transgender training with chiefs and officers in the ship’s wardroom. The training was conducted to provide command leadership guidance on transgender policy in accordance with Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) instructions.

Bonhomme Richard, forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.  Thank you very much for your support of the men and women in U.S. Navy, deployed around the clock and ready to protect and defend America on the world’s oceans.

Good to see that some part of our government isn’t being cowardly like the CDC and cancelling things LGBT-related left and right!

    • another_steve

Agree, but this is not too much longer a thing with us.

The military — even more so than other governmental entities — is subservient to the President.

      The commander in chief.

      • MT YVR

A few of them should go study Roman history. Juuuuuust sayin’.

        • another_steve

The Roman emperors failed largely because their military servants were disloyal when push came to shove.

Modern-day dictators (see: Donald Trump) have learned some since then.

          Learned how to control.

          • KarenAtFOH

We’ll see how well they follow orders when nuclear launch orders are given over some twitter slight.

          • he’ll just find a high ranking air force dood to help him do it. the AF is filled with super scary true believers who want to “bring krist.”

Somebody needs to update “Dr. Strangelove” to reflect our New World Order.

        • JT

          Merci, beau coup.

          • JCF

What you did there—I see it!

    • Dumdum#pay4thewall

Knowing Daddy Rump Roast he’ll have Tony Perkins run the program.

  • Boreal

    Awesome! Defy, rebel, resist.
The trumpanzees deleted the support for military families webpage. It won’t take long for the armed forces to realize dump is supremely dangerous if they haven’t already.

    • Damn that shit stain 45! He isn’t content with hating up on different races and religions, and of course every GOP’s favorite scapegoat LGBT. But to do this to the Military, is beyond terrible. But then of course, we are talking about both a man and a political party that are known for having zero morals and no compassion.

    • JT

Found this in the comments section.

New abbreviations for Trump: BLOTUS, abrev. Biggest Liar Of The United States.

      • Boreal

        Apt.

Also it’s a real acronym, not an initialism that doesn’t make any sense without having to google it.

  • margaretpoa

Twenty five years after I was thrown out of the navy and had my benefits stripped for being transgender, I wonder if I’ll be able to ever get my earned benefits back? Not under Hair Groppenfuhrer, certainly.

    • Paula

Margaret, I am very sorry that this happened to you. 😔

    • MT YVR

Upvoting for your bravery and you. NOT the story. Which… I’m so sorry.

    • Todd Allis

Thank you for your service. I hope you’ll get them back eventually.

    • Mark

Contact the VA. There was/is a program to rescind less than honorable discharges for vets who were tossed under the previous terms of DADT, etc.
Don’t wait…there was a time limit on it if I recall.

Update: I had to do some digging….
      Joe reported on it here:
      http://www.joemygod.com/2016/06/24/us-navy-please-appeal-your-dadt-discharge/

      The story he reported from:
      http://www.navytimes.com/story/military/2016/06/24/former-sailors-marines-booted-under-gay-ban-urged-appeal/86146014/

There is LOTS of good info in the comments section of Joe’s report

and, here’s a link to get you to the forms needed…
      http://www.secnav.navy.mil/mra/bcnr/Pages/Start_Application.aspx

Don’t do nothing. As long as you served at least one year of active duty…you are “vested” of sorts. Don’t just let it all slip away…..

      • margaretpoa

I was thrown out PRIOR to DADT and though I’ve been trying for decades to change my discharge, there is no mechanism for those of us thrown out before DADT became law, except Congressional intervention.

    • Guest

Thank you for your service and your note here. Wish you would have started that process when Obama was in office

With the numbers we could easily see DADT back as law then wonder how idiot Bill Perdue would claim both parties are the same since he beat up both Clintons on that for years.

      • margaretpoa

I started the process when Bill Clinton was in office. It continued through Bush and Obama. As for DADT, I only WISH that policy was in effect when I was discharged. I would have KEPT my benefits under that law.

    • djcoastermark

Try as fast as you can. I wish you great luck and thanks also.

    • Andymac3

I’ve started avoiding her hour. Her guests are very biased, they all seem to be best buddies of hers and her comments go on for ever without getting to the point.

      • JCF

Yeah, I tried Greta (again, after seeing her pre-FUX on CNN) Rachel, and No Thank You. [When she said “But what if Trump is RIGHT about his inauguration numbers???” I turned her off, and haven’t turned her on since. “What if Trump is right?” Sheesh!]

Thank you for the link. I was just a kid then. What a horror story. Hard to believe that so much of such hatred is still with us today.

      • Andymac3

I read about this when I was round about his age and it terrified me. I couldn’t understand how people could murder someone for so little, a whistle, all on hearsay, for it to be so publicly known, and no one get jailed. The injustice was so extreme. It always stuck with me.

    • NancyP

Well, duh! Terrorize without actually killing a local semi-slave – kill an outsider instead.

    • Lars Littlefield

There’s still time to hang her as a reprisal. She’s 62 and still alive. The 15 year-old boy she accused is long dead. 🙁

      • Baltimatt

        She’s 82.

        • Lars Littlefield

          Mea culpa. Still, there’s time.

      • Andymac3

Emmett was 14, she was a lying piece of shit, but her brother did the killing and he is dead.

        • Guest

No. She was not 14 with a husband. It was her brother and father who killed the child. The killer’s were found not guilty in less than 1 hour by an all white jury. It is our history and this is kind of important to be just posting when you are wrong.

          • Andymac3

I said he was 14, get your facts right, and stop hiding behind a guest profile.

          • Guest

You edited your comment.you changed she to Emmett. Liar. And I guess that is what you have to do to feel better about your lying self, attach a guest. You sir are a lying joke.

          • Guest

And you edited your comment to remember be her husband and changed it to brother.

Utterly vile. I always figured the complaint was a massive exaggeration, if not an outright lie. These are the people who have hijacked our lives and our nation’s future. Their support for BLOTUS is a cry of outrage that they may no longer enjoy the privilege of controlling and destroying others’ lives to make themselves feel less small and less ignorant.

    • JCF

“That case went a long way toward ruining her life,” Tyson told Vanity Fair.

Boo FREAKING hoo! She (Carolyn Bryant) got to HAVE a life, unlike Till (thanks to her lie). She must have known she was giving Till a death sentence, when she said he made “physical and verbal advances.” 63 years and counting of GUILT trip seems like a minimum sentence!

Remember this guy in Arkansas that sent several mayors threats in the mail who planned to hang 7 mayors if they didn’t replace common core with the bible, seeking 23 million dollars to form a christian army to overthrow the government. Bryan also demanded that the mayors no longer honor votes cast by anyone who is homosexual, Muslim, socialist, communist, atheist, or anyone who worships a God other than Jesus Christ. He also demanded those people be required an “exit”.

I had to google her. Stopped by her website. She’s batshit. Opposes contraception and endorses a “modern” rhythm method. I hope her husband cheats on her with someone thin and attractive when she’s ovulating.

      • I never understood the opposition to birth control. It makes no sense , even morally speaking. It’s not terminating a life. It’s simply preventing one. It’s called being prudent, particularly if one knows one can’t afford raising a child.

And really … if one uses a calendar or a condom, the intention is the same, isn’t it?

        • Lazycrockett

The catholic “Brother” singled me out, knowing that I was too small and frail (frail?) to play regular sports…gave me my own jump rope. A MAN telling me to jump rope. Who Hoo!!! He could have said play with dolls and I wouldn’t have been happier. I would LOVE to know what that guy knew that I didn’t know. One of my only fond memories of Catholic school.

The boys and girls in the lab created a mechanical heart that allows it to FEEL! Just like a real boy, he can FEEEL, cos’ SCIENCE!

        • Bryan

*Mechanical heart still powered by the heart and soul of an orphaned child

Gah! Warn me first, I need to get my garlic necklace on before seeing that evil visage.

Whenever people go on about anti-Muslim sentiment, the first thing I point out to them is, why the hell did W/Cheney succeed in calming those fears. Yet, Obama, as much as he tried, never seemed to be as successful.

Oh, sorry, forgot, racist fuck-wits run rampant here in the ole US of A.

      • JCF

“Gah! Warn me first, I need to get my garlic necklace on before seeing that evil visage.” LOL

His whole statement from the op-ed is pretty impressive. Another part of it:

Murphy said the decisions would endanger Americans.

“Donald Trump’s long-awaited Muslim ban became a reality today,” he said. “True, the ban doesn’t cover every Muslim globally, just a set of Muslims from countries Trump perceives, rather arbitrarily, to be dangerous.

“Trump’s Muslim ban is a moral abomination. It is fundamentally un-American. And it is dangerous – it will give life back to the terrorist movement and eventually get Americans killed,” he continued.

      • Friday

It’s not just the damn ban, our troops still there among Iraqi forces just heard Trump say their American friends might suddenly get ordered to invade again and take the oil this time.

  • boobert

anyone know the link to watch bill maher on you tube?

    • Lazycrockett

Tonight you will just be able to watch Overtime on You tube. Just search for Real Time With Bill Maher on youtube.

      • boobert

well poo, they had it last week.

        • Lazycrockett

Well it probably will get posted later in the weekend but I don’t think you can watch it live on youtube.

  • Kelly Lape

Bravo Zulu shipmates. Change is never easy, but respecting each other should be.

    • andrew

Wow. This Navy vet agrees with you on this, so you won’t have to tell me to “fuck off” or call me a “moron, as you have in the past. “

  • Blake J Butler

Ah, “Chris Keller” from Oz…how I wanted to be his “cell mate”, LOL~

      • djcoastermark

        Um, I still do.

        • safari

From the clips I saw, doesn’t that usually entail a bit of a death wish?

          • Treant

Yes, but at least you have a high probability of dying with Chris’ penis in your mouth.

          • safari

            You make a good point.

Liza moved Judy’s body across the country, apparently.
    https://www.tmz.com/2017/01/27/judy-garland-body-moved-hollywood/

    • Treant

That’s a bit unusual. Maybe she never felt like NY was the place her mother should be? Judy did seem to love the limelight, Hollywood sounds good for her!

      • Lazycrockett

Im watching graham norton so I didnt click on the link but I read earlier it was that there would be enough space for Liza, Lorna, and the rest of her family when they pop off.

        • Treant

That’s also sensible. Strangely, I already have my own space–my parents, me, and my husband.

          • safari

            Sensible.

You can also get made into a gem with about a quarter cup of ashes. They repeatedly ask that you not send the entire person in the brochure. Alternatively, the Koreans have been experimenting with turning the entire cremains into plastic-like colored beads about the size of marbles for display.

          • Treant

For $1.25, I’m hoping they’ll dump me outside and let the rats eat me.

Hey, the rats gotta eat too.

Mary Roach mentioned that in either “Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers” (Chapter 1: A Head Is A Terrible Thing To Waste) or her followup “Spooked: Science Tackles the Afterlife”. I’m skeptical it’ll work as proposed. Though I do prefer it to chemical liquefaction.

    • fuzzybits

It seems fitting she should be at Hollywood Forever. I met sisters, two teachers that used to go every year to the Marilyn Monroe celebration there.

      • fuzzybits

My bad. She’s buried in Forest Lawn.

  • Paul David

    I love the lead in:

“I don’t know how long we’ll see things like this, since Racist Grandma and Bigoted Uncle Jim voted a mentally-ill moron into the White House, but…”.

Love it love it LOVE IT!!!!!!

Yet again, as a Millennial, I get to deal with poor decisions of older Americans! Many of whom should have their voting rights taken away! Like Racist Grandma! And basically the entire Midwest!

    • Lazycrockett

Well just remember its not us Gen X’ers who will never have any political clout in our lifetime sandwiched between the Boomers and the Millennials.

      • safari

I have faith in the millennials.

        • Lazycrockett

Oh I have faith , I just don’t know if they can perform miracles.

          • safari

The world improved after WW2, mostly. It’ll probably be the same for the next planetary crisis.

      • Paul David

        Dude.

I’m an older Millennial, so I know the “oh, look! My voting preferences will never actually be taken seriously because Grandma and the fucking Boomers are ALL ANYONE TALKS ABOUT.”

First of all, there is Racist “Greatest Generation” Grandma. Yeah yeah yeah, fucking World War II…what that fuck ever! That god damned generation is so racist, misogynist, homophobic, even fucking anti-semitic!

Racist Grandma is not a beacon of propriety and morality! Her views are abhorrent and she’s AWFUL!

        And the Boomers?

First of all, that god damned generation calls us entitled, and yet they were the ones who fucked us over–and are still doing so!–in myriad ways! And the “oh, look at us Boomers! We’re so revolutionary! Something, something…Woodstock!”

So the hippie bullshit turned out to be garbage…and what the Boomers don’t want to talk about is that shortly after all the drugs they did and sex they had in the late 60s they…elected Reagan and, later, GW Bush. Both of them twice! So…yeah…fuck you, Boomers!

        But, yes, I feel you….

        • safari

Boomers have daddy issues as far as I can tell.

        • Lazycrockett

          Gotcha Bro!

        • JCF

Every generation resents the ones that came before (esp the ones most immediately before—“familiarity breeds contempt” and all that).

I have a 96 year old Obama -> Hillary-voting father (straight white middle-class male). Now granted he’s a Californian, but I still see how lonely his life-long liberal witness has been (in his cohort). And I respect him especially for THAT. I think, from his perspective: “as a progressive Millenial, you’ll never be lonely, kiddo”. So it goes…

        • Friday

I think what Lazycrockett meant was that Gen-xers as much as we thought we’d be the new 60’s and more all rolled into one for the good guys, when we were young, we were mostly faced with everything being already *filled* with far more Boomers who just weren’t aging or retiring, (as well as damn puritanical standards even to *be* in politics: you basically would have to sacrifice anything interesting about yourself in order to even be fitted for a suit-dress or anything,) and there just wasn’t any damn *room.* This applied to the private sector, too, hence that as-usual reputation for ‘slacking’ …really in *our decades* though you still had countless Baby Boomers hanging on to everything.

          • Paul David

Yes, I am SO sick of Boomers who won’t (or can’t) retire.

          • Friday

The problem’s more that I among others, was scrounging to stay alive while they *weren’t* you get it?

          • Paul David

            Well, yeah. I hear you.

I mean, I have a BA/BS and an MA in econ…and the number of Boomers, in interviews, who tell me one way or another that I am unqualified–while they themselves maybe have a BA–is too many to number.

            It’s fucking ridiculous.

Or in tech, where I work, the number of times my job has basically been “we’re gonna hire you to do the hard analytics work that your Boomer boss can’t do…even though it’s technically part of his/her (mostly his) job” is infuriating for me to think about.

It’s like, “no, I won’t ‘teach you’ how to use Excel…that’s not my job and is part of yours…and if you can’t use a simple spreadsheet program you probably shouldn’t be working here. After all, Excel isn’t even the main tool we use!”

            So sick of it.

          • Paul David

There was that whole “failure to launch” thing.

Of course, my generation was too young to have participated in the first tech boom, then we had to wade through the Bush administration and all the lethargy that characterized the first decade of this century…and we were severely impacted by the recession…I know it totally fucked me as I was leaving grad school in 2009…and that was a shitty, shitty time to be looking for work.

And who voted for Dubya? Oh, who voted twice for Dubya? That’s right: the fucking Boomers alongside our easily-misled and oh, so bigoted grandparents.

    • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

Half of millennials didn’t vote. If Millenials cared so much about democracy & didn’t think their elders were doing such a hot job of running the country, maybe they should have shown up on election day.

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-wolfe/muslim-biz-entrepreneurs-_b_9548540.html

      • Paul David

        I agree! Totally!

It’s like the 2010 election! We all thought we’d done our job and elected a Black president, we felt a midterm was, well, lame and unnecessary! Sad!

  • Joanna Clark

It only took 42 years. The Navy discharged me in 1974 . I was a CPO E7. I had surgery in Jun 75. In Nov 75, with full disclosure, I was invited to join the Army Reserve as a SFC E7. Again with full disclosure, I passed a full physical and was sworn in. Six months later I was invited to become a STA GS7, assigned to the S2 division of a PSYOP Battalion. Nine months later I was nominated for promotion to WO. That’s when the DoD became aware. I was accused of fraudulent enlistment, but when they reviewed my records, the charge was dropped. They finally sent me to the Long Beach Naval Hospital for a full physical. The physician assign to preform the physical decided my physical was two importment for just one physician. He scheduled me to be seen by four different specialist, all Navy Captains and Board certified in their specialty. They found disqualified due to present wording of AR 40-501, parag 2-13s, but found me fully qualified and recommended retention. A week later, my enlistment was voided. President Carter cleared me of all allegations but was unable to reinstate me. I sued and won a honorable discharge, credit for time served, and a monetary settlement. Needless to say, I am pleased that the policy has finally been changed. Of course, the change in policy may not last long given that we have mentally unstable narcissist as our President.
