Mexican President Cancels Meeting With Trump

CNBC reports:

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said Thursday that he told the White House that he will not attend a meeting with President Donald Trump scheduled for next Tuesday.

They were set to meet to discuss trade and immigration. After Trump signed two executive orders Wednesday aiming to crack down on immigration from America’s southern neighbor, Pena Nieto said he would consult with Mexican officials to decide “next steps,” but did not say outright that he would not attend the meeting.

On Thursday morning, Trump responded on Twitter, first criticizing America’s trade relationship with Mexico. He added that “if Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.”

Twitter diplomacy. That’s where we are now.

Get used to being snubbed you nasty orange shitgibbon.

Because it’s stopped him at any point in the entire campaign cycle?

      • Acronym Jim

Getting daily free coverage during the entire campaign cycle is “being snubbed?”

This is one of those “alternative facts,” right?

        • Kate

snub: “rebuff, ignore, or spurn disdainfully.”

Getting insulted by the media, repeatedly, is snubbing. The Huffington Post was great for that.

It’s also free coverage, no “alternative facts” required.

“Are you aware of a single case where Trump bowed to protests or media attacks?”

            hmmm
Are you aware of a single case where Tramp (or anyone) had this many protesters against him?
Are you aware of a single case where Tramp ignored Alec Baldwin?
Are you aware that Tramp is very thin-skinned?
Are you aware that American politicians need voters & once it comes to impeachment or voting on Tramp’s policy, they’ll need to weigh out how many of their citizens are against Cheetolini?
Are you aware that even water , in large quantity, can be lethal?

      It’s a sure bet.

    • Acronym Jim

      I give it 1 to 1 odds.

    • Kate

That’s not the plan. Instead, Trump’s saying that it’s a good thing it’s cancelled if Mexico’s not willing to pay for the wall.

      https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/824615820391305216
      https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/824616644370714627

So, he pulls out of NAFTA like he wanted to do anyway, Canada keeps their free trade agreement, and Mexico goes into a horrible recession. Mexico has to pay tariffs at the most favoured nation rate, Trump tacks on a few tariffs for good measure, and declares all the “send money to Mexico” services to be under Know Your Customer, and require proof of lawful status.

Mexico is devastated, the US collects some tax money, and Trump declares victory, that the increased US jobs and Mexican tariffs count as “paying” for the wall. All of this is done without any need for congress, as he has the power under existing laws. He then says he wanted to keep NAFTA, but the Mexicans were unreasonable, and blames it on them.

Well, time to go short some Mexican banks.

      • Lars Littlefield

        • Kate

“And who will Kate the troll blame when the US economy collapses?”

Obama, and the presidents before him that ran up the debt to ridiculous levels. We’ve been close to a collapse since 2008, and printing money and keeping the interest rates low, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the collapse happens under Trump.

Quite frankly, it would surprise me if we don’t have a crash in the next 8 years.

          • Lars Littlefield

Yeah. Thought so. It’s always Obama’s fault. That never gets old. /s
Begone, Trollinda. You have no power here!

          • Jerry

With the architects of the last meltdown and recession now getting new government appointments, I think you’re looking in the wrong direction. And any number of Trump’s ideas will have a huge negative impact on the economy, including all of the trade wars he’s getting ready to start; the removal of regulations on banks and Wall Street; and the deportation of millions of people, with a resulting humanitarian crisis.

          • Kate

            That works too.

With the unfunded liabilities we have, default is coming one day or another. I’m a “rip the bandaid off” kind of gal – if you can’t pay your bills, default. Don’t raise the credit limit and try to balance transfer your way out of it.

          • Friday

You do not understand fiat currency. That’s all Republitarian bullshit to try justifying *dumbing down and impoverishing Americans* while spending gazilions on tax cuts for the rich, symbolic boondoggles, and weapons systems. Or ‘government shutdowns’ over the ‘tyrranny’ of a somewhat-better deal on health care.

          • Kate

“You do not understand fiat currency. ”

Yes, I do. I also understand that inflation is not a panacea. Yes, technically, we can avoid “default” by firing up the printing presses, but what do you think happens to bond rates when they have to price in hyperinflation?

Inflating your way out of debts is still default – it just comes with a nice helping of screwing over anyone left holding fiat currency at that point.

          • Friday

Frankly, that just doesn’t mean that starving out the economy by slashing budgets for things that go into the real economy helps in any way, either. It means you need to add *value places that last,* (rather than more profits for the ultra-rich and corporations to file away as numbers and gamble with) so that the payoff continues, whether in the form of infrastructure, education, other facilities that keep producing, especially sustainable ones, modernized energy efficiency, etc etc.

Fiat currency doesn’t get any more ‘backed up’ just because you’re treating ‘spending’ like ordinary ‘debt’ and making *less* productive use of it. It’s not zero-sum that way, unless you force that situation.

      • MichaelJ

Not amazing at all. Amazing would be if anyone were less gracious than Trump.

    • Kate

Wow. It’s been a while since a tweet literally made me laugh out loud.

Out of all the personality traits that Trump has shown, fear of Mexico is certainly nowhere on the list. He’s a narcissist, and a sociopath, but his desire to be liked only applies to the people he actually gives a shit about. His biggest fear is obscurity – he’s already turned around his poverty, and crossed “most powerful man on earth” off his bucket list.

You can argue that most of the country may not be on his “gives a shit” list (it certainly includes most liberals), but it absolutely doesn’t include foreigners or criminal invaders. “Oh, no, Mexico’s United!”

If they are counting on their persistence meaning something, they haven’t been paying attention. Trump steamrollers people who get in his way, and doubles down on his policies, rather than walking them back, consequences be damned. Given that he has the power to send them into a recession with an email and to impose horrible (albeit temporary) punitive tariffs, that’s not the brightest move they could be making.

      • Lars Littlefield

Oh, Kate, you Trumpanzee troll. You’re so deluded. You need to spend your energy whining on Breitfart where your pedos are appreciated.

Kate, you really are deluded if you think Trump is going to send Mexico into a recession with an email. Statements do not become facts simply by uttering them. You and Kellyanne…the alternative sisters.

        • Kate

“Kate, you really are deluded if you think Trump is going to send Mexico into a recession with an email.”

I didn’t say he would. I said he could. I also didn’t say the email would be to Mexico.

“Statements do not become facts simply by uttering them.”

They do move markets. What do you think would happen to the Mexican economy if Trump were to send an email to a few reporters and wall street guys, telling them that he will be withdrawing from NAFTA and imposing 35% temporary tariffs, as permitted by law? That in accordance with law, he will be exercising his power to halt all immigration and visitors from Mexico?

80% of Mexican exports go to the US. There’d be a lawsuit, congress would probably pass an act taking his ability to exclude foreigners, but he could legally do it.

It kind of comes with the territory. Personally, I prefer my sociopaths without the “Jeckyll and Hyde” thing Hillary has going on. Trumps an asshole, but at least he’s consistent.

          • Friday

About his “Poverty?” I hate to break it to you, but ‘poverty’ isn’t the word for ‘Making negative billions and still crapping in gold toilets.’

That term was used relatively. His allowance in bankruptcy was more than most people make in a year.

          • TSS

You don’t know what a sociopath is. Hilary does have a slippery track record and I certainly didn’t vote for her in the primary partly because of it. A true sociopath, who is usually male, has no compunction about breaking any rules to get what he wants. And he is unable to form any significant emotional attachments.

          • Kate

“And he is unable to form any significant emotional attachments.”

Try talking to people who have actually worked under her, who aren’t in her inner circle. She’s cold, calculating, and lacking empathy and remorse. She can’t connect with people emotionally, and is prone to outbursts of violence and rage. There’s a reason that her secret service detail was a punishment detail. She also absolutely hates dogs, and I have a hard time forgiving anyone like that.

An 8 mile high wall ought to do it. Then those pesky planes will have to go around the ends, then, I guess.

    • FancyThat

I keep wondering if the US will be responsible for the $11B+ construction tab (probably double or triple that with delays, etc) and then Mexico ‘pays’ for it afterward with some kind of additional surtaxes or tariffs for legal border crossings, such that they’re ‘paying for the wall’ in fees for years to come?

For all of this country’s aging infrastructure and educational woes, it certainly seems as though those billions could be better spent where they’re needed, rather than this symbolic strong-arming that accomplishes nothing in the long run.

        • Lars Littlefield

Pared = wall. Paredes = walls.

          • Derrick Johns

Thank you, Lars. All United States Americans should be required to learn Spanish. Boy, I must be trying to start a civil war up in here.

          • Lars Littlefield

Actually, President Nieto said “muro” which also means wall. Pared(es) is more specifically interior walls of a building or a room, but it works almost as well. 🙂

          • Derrick Johns

“muro” makes sense because in United States’ cities we have giant murals on sides (walls) of some corner buildings. See, you learn something every day from the this blog.

If you say “Quiero tocar or Mepermite tocar con tu pene” most central Americans and folks living in Ecuador and north will assume you want to play it like a flute. But folks in Spain will immediately understand and not laugh at you (much). 🙂

They should start a regular “Trump’s Biggest Lie of the Week” feature on all of the news shows.

        • Snarkaholic

And his cabinet members can be nominated for the Freak of the Week award.

          • AtticusP

I think that Bill Maher is actually doing that with cabinet members on his show this season.

He’s done the brackets thing with “stupidest member of Congress”and “stupidest state” before. It’s Trump’s cabinet’s turn, and the competition is very, very fierce.

An exciting race to the bottom all the way.

    • JuanGalicia

As a mexican I am horrified at how positive my president is viewed by americans atm , as a strong and good looking “leader” … we are facing mass demonstrations against him, violence on the streets and a tumbling economy and his failed leadership in confronting Trump when he should have, acting like he wanted to reason with him when it was clear it was foolish. Trust me, mexicans could not have a poorer opinion of Mr Peña Nieto, he´ll be lucky not to be ousted before his term is up. Wish I could say otherwise.

We spent inauguration eve, day and Saturday enjoying the casual freedoms of drinking, eating and gambling to excess in Tijuana. Despite looking like a typical clot of ugly ‘Mericuns everyone was very cordial, even gracious toward us. Of course, the only problems we incurred were dealing with US Customs who looked down upon us as if we were traitors for not staying in our own marvelous country. I fear the next time I travel across the border Mexico will enforce an entrance fee for ‘Mericuns of $25 or more. It’s something they should probably do anyway, just to make up for the way we trash their border towns by getting drunk and puking in their streets.

Anyway, I support Mexico and Mexico’s President. Trump? Not even.

tRump is a fan of eminent domain

      • Friday

One reason I’m inclined to let him try to build his boondoggle of a useless symbol. Or, well, not concentrate on fighting it. Then it’ll be him against ranchers and property owners and farmers… with the Dems on their side the more fascist he gets about seizing the property and all.

      • Chris Baker

Hmm, that was gonna be my question. The federal government doesn’t own all the land on the border.I suppose some if it it, some of it is owned by states/cities and some on private land. Of course there is eminent domain. Republicans hate it, except when it’s useful to them or their big projects. And there needs to be engineering plans made for the actual wall, and bids requested and reviewed. and my guess is that a lot of construction workers in that part of the country are latinos. So the people that Trump’s racist supporters hate will actually be benefiting from those construction jobs.

        • Kate

“and my guess is that a lot of construction workers in that part of the country are latinos. ”

They can attach terms to require lawful labor in all bids.

“So the people that Trump’s racist supporters hate”

They don’t hate latinos – just criminals.

          • The_Wretched

“They can attach terms to require lawful labor in all bids.”

The FEDGOV contracts are dictated by the FEDGOV and are not open to negotiation.

          • Kate

I don’t understand what you are saying. I stated that the federal government can attach terms to the bid requiring that people bidding on the contract use lawful labor.

Are you arguing that they can’t?

          • The_Wretched

oic, that’s rather optimistic of you. Trump’s already gotten stung on using illegal labor. Do you really think trump’s people will care about who is doing the labor?

          • Kate

            Yes.

          • The_Wretched

Well, you’re wrong. Have a great rest of your day!

          • Stogiebear

That’s right, Kate, because we’re Latinos in Texas we’re automatically all unlawful laborers and criminals. Thanks for clearing that up.

          • Kate

            Nice strawman.

I’m latino, and have spent a lot of time around other Trump supporters. It’s criminals we have a problem with, not latinos.

          • Stogiebear

It’s well known that Latinos can’t be racist. Thanks for clearing that up.

          • Kate

            Any time.

          • Chris Baker

A person can be Latino AND be in the US legally. It’s just a fact that there are many Latinos in the US who work in construction.

“They don’t hate latinos – just criminals.”

No, a lot of them hate Latinos, Blacks, Jews, Middle Easterners.

          • Kate

“A person can be Latino AND be in the US legally.”

I know. I was one of them.

“No, a lot of them hate Latinos, Blacks, Jews, Middle Easterners.”

A fringe minority. If you’re looking for people who vote based on skin colour over ability, you’ll find more of them as registered democrats.

          • Chris Baker

I said “Latinos”, not Latinos here illegally. You are the one who mentioned contracts to only allow legal workers.

“If you’re looking for people who vote based on skin colour over ability, you’ll find more of them as registered democrats.”

Generalize much? You just have to look at which party is trying to turn out black voters and which party is trying to suppress them.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

“They don’t hate latinos – just criminals.”

You missed all the fun videos at Tramp’s rallies where his white supporters attacked black supporters or all the white guys yelling “build the wall” at any random “latino-looking” person. Also, not all Tramp supporters are racists but all the racists group unilaterally support Tramp. So if you know a racist, there’s 100% chance that racist supports Tramp.

          • Kate

“So if you know a racist, there’s 100% chance that racist supports Trump.”

Here’s a hint: voting for someone (or refusing to vote for someone) based on their skin colour, is racist. If you’re a racist, you probably voted for Obama.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

cue the false equivalency (not that I’m surprised) ! Lemme explain why:
All 4 major candidates in the 2016 cycle are white, so no racist chose or refused a candidate based SOLELY on his/her skin color.

All racists support Trump. From the good ‘ol KKK to the horrible alt-right, all out & proud unequivocally voted for Donald Trump.

So lemme repeat, not all Trump supporters are racists, but all known racists support Trump! and none of what I’ve said so far has anything to do with Obama

          • Kate

“All 4 major candidates in the 2016 cycle are white”

There was an election in 2012, too. A lot of people voted for Obama because he’s black. They are racists.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

you’re digressing & brought in a completely unrelated fact.
            how can you go from
“So if you know a racist, there’s 100% chance that racist supports Trump.”
to ===> Here’s a hint: voting for someone (or refusing to vote for someone) based on their skin colour, is racist. If you’re a racist, you probably voted for Obama.

            time to up your meds???

          • Kate

“you’re digressing & brought in a completely unrelated fact. ”

            Not at all.

Since it’s racist to vote based on skin colour, and most of the people who voted based on skin colour voted democrat, most racists are democrat.

For fucks sake, the Republicans were literally founded for the abolition of slavery, the democrats literally fought tooth and nail to prevent the civil rights act, it was literally the party of the KKK.

There are racist republicans, but it’s racist democrats who put into place policies like the ones that would deduct points from the SAT score of my [adopted] brother because he’s asian. It’s racist democrats who think that us Mexicans (and blacks) are somehow unable to make it down to a DMV to get a driver license, when we can somehow manage ID for everything else in life, from cell phones to bank account.

Most racists didn’t vote for Trump.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW2LpFkVfYk

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

That was a whole lot of circling back to the beginning.
“Not all Tramp voters are racists but all the known racists voted Tramp”
Lemme brake it down to you:

            1. I’ve already told you racists voting for Tramp has nothing to do with his skin color. So telling me there are pro-black racist people voted Obama for his skin color in 2008 & 2012 doesn’t make the racists voted Tramp 2016 any less racist.

            2. “not all Tramp voters are racists” already mentioned it several times. So you’re pointing out to me there are non-white & non-racist people voted Tramp is making my point.

            3. “all the known racists voted Tramp” because I named all my known racists, in public & private, and all of them voted Tramp. Unless you can point out a few racists who DID NOT vote Tramp, my statement stands.

            Thanks for playing.

          • Kate

“I’ve already told you racists voting for [The Donald] has nothing to do with his skin color. ”

That’s nice. I’m not talking about them. I’m talking about the majority of racists, who are democrats, who didn’t vote for Donald Trump.

“not all [Donald Trump] voters are racists”

And not all racists are Democrats. Some of them did, indeed, vote for Donald Trump. Most, however, voted Democrat.

“all the known racists voted [for the man you obsess over]”

No. You know plenty of racists. Most of them voted Obama.

“Unless you can point out a few racists who DID NOT vote [the God Emperor], my statement stands.”

Again, take a look at anyone who wanted to vote for Obama, because he’s black. Heck, look at the black vote, compared to every other candidate.

I’m done pointing things out to you – if you want to be willfully blind, I can’t help you.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

“Again, take a look at anyone who wanted to vote for Obama, because he’s black. ”

The conclusion that people voted for Obama bc of his skin color are ALL pro-black racists is flimsy, but I’ll give you that. How do you know all those racists voted Hillary? There are a bunch of Obama voters who flipped to Tramp this cycle, what makes you think they’re not all those Dems racists????

“all the known racists voted [for the man you obsess over]”
No. You know plenty of racists. Most of them voted Obama.

Nope, I don’t know a racist in public or real life who voted Obama, much less the self-titled out & proud racists. It’s up to YOU to bring evidence to me, instead of speculating what I might or might not know.

“Heck, look at the black vote, compared to every other candidate.” what you mean look at black votes? for this election? They didn’t vote Tramp bc they hate him and they didn’t hate him because he’s white. They all voted for the other white candidates.

Racism isn’t a congenital condition. People can adopt or drop their racism view. So telling me plenty of racists voted Obama doesn’t mean those racists remained racists 4 to 8 years later.

          • Kate

“How do you know all those racists voted Hillary?”

I don’t, but I do know that many did.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

who??? you keep referring to some hypothetical people while I pointed out to you the known racist groups who voted Trump.

        • Cousin Bleh

WaPo has a report on the challenging logistics of building a wall. In addition to all the privately owned land, the terrain along the border is diverse and in many places infeasible for construction. Also, the actual border in southern Texas is in the middle of the Rio Grande.

          It’s a good read…

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Actually, there’s already a growing movement in parts of Canada to push back against Trump’s potential attack(s). The problem with Trump is he thinks the U.S. exists in a vacuum, that it stands alone. That’s a dangerous place to be when it comes to world politics or trade. The U.S. is far from self-sufficient and if he thinks isolationism or threats of invasion are going to help, he’s sorely mistaken. We can only hope that other nations, including mine, stand firm and make it clear that Trump is not King of the World but one voice in a larger chorus. With that said, I am thrilled to see so many patriotic citizens, of all stripes, standing up against him. Trump is not representative of America and it’s good to see Americans saying so.

You know, I was just thinking a while back that the one thing the USA needs right now is to antagonize our allies. It’s kind of like if I woke up one morning and said “hey, that Mr. Witherspoon who lives next door has been a good friend of mine for years. I think I’ll go over and punch him in the face.”

See, that would be really, really sane. Just like our new “leader.”

  • Tomcat

Trump will be your friend if you let him build Trump Towers all over Mexico so his followers can worship him even there.

  • bambinoitaliano

Such a stupid man he is. His whole reason of being in the White House is to build his personal business empire not just in the US but everywhere in the world. His hotels, condos and golf course suddenly have this great opportunities using his influence to expand. Why in the world is he destroying all these personal opportunities? What a dumb fuck he is! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/48c27061822f370cb1c3d12233c3211777cc46c86ff00a0d1654943746171e06.jpg

    Dear Allies:
We’ve been friends for a long time and it’s been swell.
Now, we need a favor from you: help us. We have gone temporarily insane and need you to step in and be strong for us until we can get back on our feet.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks in advance!
    Sane United States Citizens everywhere.

    • Lars Littlefield

I posted a letter expressing similar sentiments to President Nieto yesterday. I don’t think the Trumpanistas are opening mail addressed to Mexico . . . yet.

      • gaymex1

Maybe Trump can just dig a trench instead of building the wall. He can flood it with Keystone Pipeline oil and set it ablaze. I doubt EPA Commissar Scott Pruitt would have issues with it. Besides, trenching is easier than building a wall. Not as much manual labor needed. There will be uuuuuge flames…the biggest and most beautiful flames in history…and the heat, let me tell you–body searing. MAGA.

        • Lars Littlefield

This is how Trump is making us all mentally ill. It’s been his plan all along.

      Dear Caller

I am sorry the UK can’t take your call as it is currently strapped to a gurney in an underfunded NHS psychiatric hospital.

Please leave a message after the tone.

      • ChrisMorley

In fact the PM (a vicar’s daughter) Theresa May has now arrived in Philadelphia and meets Trumplethinskin on Friday in a smarm offensive.
‘Despite the growing controversy in the UK and worldwide about Trump’s remarks on the use of torture, as well as a series of other policies including the border wall with Mexico, May said she was determined to “deepen” links. She added: “It is in our interests – those of Britain and America together – to stand strong together to defend our values, our interests and the very ideas in which we believe.”’ https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jan/26/opposites-attract-theresa-may-signals-strong-relationship-with-trump

“A badly-needed” twenty-plus-billion dollar useless fence in the middle of nowhere, he means.

  • Tomcat

Winning, winning, winning, winning, wheeee isn’t this GREAT. God help us.

  • Tiger Quinn

Just to recap: the most clear line of conspiracy theory these days is that all of the super rich who just leaped into cabinet positions have already paid their tickets – they paid off Trump’s debts to the Russian oligarchs who were threatening his life. So although Trump is now not beholden like he was, he IS still under the threat of that stupid piss tape. But the plan is, according to the conspiracists, that the next three weeks are going to be a literal checklist of giving every one of them what they want, including the authority to tear down the regs that have been holding them back, and when that’s done he will abruptly resign.

Do with that what you will, but I will say that every time I see Trump, or Melania, or Ivanka, and even fucking Barron, they ALL have this face like they are literally counting down the minutes until this is done. Which says to me that there definitely IS an endgame already in place.

    • Halou

If that’s true I hope he gets tried for treason and his (his entire family’s) assets are seized by the government and redistributed. See them all busking on the street corner.

      • Tiger Quinn

I guess it comes down to how well he can cover his tracks. History says “not very well,” but these are some off the charts crazy times.

    • Tiger Quinn

They always say in conspiracy theories that the first test is “who benefits?” and that’s why this has all been so odd to me – because even as a money starved narcissist, NONE of these actions make any sense. Wouldn’t a savvy businessman be making bank right now, or setting HIMSELF up to make bank?

      • Friday

I usually don’t go to conspiracy theory when obvious ulterior motives are obvious, but Trump’s got a narcissistic *disorder,* and the money, (or pose of having it,) is largely a means to an end for him and that end is a sense of power over others: “You can’t con a con” goes out the window a bit when he’s therefore just as susceptible to his own kinds of lines as he thinks everyone else is. More so if people are better at manipulating him than he is at others. If he hadn’t been born rich he just wouldn’t have even been that successful a scammer.

  • Dot Beech

That Mexican president is a cutie. He can come see me, instead.

    He won’t have to pay!

      Be careful.

So, 45 is at the Loew’s hotel, and there is not a single soul on the street east of 13th.

Helpful NBC-affiliate reporter asking protesters if they are local or from “out of town”.

Those outside agitators in their wheelchairs!!!!!!!

(Edit: my point is that he was asking this of people in wheelchairs.)

    • Acronym Jim

So the Republican congress critters are at Lowe’s Philly and the Dumpster in Chief is at Lowe’s SF. Gee, I wonder what the appeal of that particular hotel chain is for Republicans?

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loews_Corporation

Perhaps a better question is whether the Dumpster in Chief and his oily Secretary of State have significant shares in the company.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

Diamond Offshore Drilling is a Loews subsidiary.
Btw, does anyone else still pronounce it Lo-wees?

  • edrex

Let’s repeat this clearly: it was MEXICO that cancelled this meeting. Si Se Puede!

    • Lumpy Gaga

At least momentarily, until WWIII breaks out and we all die in a fiery holocaust.

Between that and the Philippines, been trying to brush up on that history, actually.

  • Niblet58

You just know this is going to chap his ass so bad. Some little dude from Mexico DARED to cancel a meeting before the thing had a chance to show him who is boss. I love this!

  • Gerry Fisher

    Bwah-ha-ha!

  • Treant

I can’t read Spanish, but I imagine the Tweet says, “I don’t meet with insane people. Call me after the re-do. Love, actually honestly elected President Nieto.”

    • Mordred LeFey

Unfortunately, all it says is “We have informed the White House that I will not attend the meeting next Tuesday with Trump”

      • Treant

Let me have my dreams, Mordred. Let me have my dreams.

Trumpanzee spin: “Mexican Cuck President Too Much of a Scared Special Snowflake to Meet With Mighty God-Emperor Trump”

    Just watch.

    • Mike_in_the_Tundra

Of course, only the orange one believes that.

  • Even if the only way to remove a phone from his grubby hands, is to cut his hands off a the wrist, so be it. Or Congress can just man up now, and remove this shit smeared toxic waste dump now.

  • Sam_Handwich

Don the Con just told republicans in Philly that he and Nieto “agreed” to cancel their meeting

    • Friday

      Pathetic. 🙂

    • Lumpy Gaga

Yeah. Nieto cancelled and you agreed that he did.

    • boatboy_srq

      BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Robincho

Sorry, Mangoboy. Peña Nieto called your date off first…

  • justmeeeee

Mexico seems to have a president who is smart and fuckable. We have neither.

  • DumbHairyApe

    Good move.

  • Mike_in_the_Tundra

The Donald is going to be tweeting his ass off. President Nieto just made it obvious that he has what the orange one doesn’t – cajones.

    • Ben in Oakland

      Pena has cOjones.
Trump has cAjones, but they are certainly the best ones. you can fnd them at IKEA.

      • RidingTheLine

Nice. The public high school Spanish teacher in me loves the mini-lesson you have provided, not that we would discuss the differences between those two words in class.

        • Mike_in_the_Tundra

I have a tia abuela sitting on a cloud saying, “Yes!!!” She always thought it horrible that my generation could only speak poor Spanglish. Apparently, we can’t spell it either.

          • RidingTheLine

Latinos who speak Spanish at home but learn to read in English first get messed up in their spelling in both languages. That’s one of the reasons why bilingual education is so valuable for kids who speak a language other than English at home.

        • Ben in Oakland

I thought it was pretty good myself, he said modestly.

  • Mike__in_Houston

And trump successfully continues his quest to be a worldwide laughingstock, not to mention getting every world leader on earth to hate him and the United States. Heckuva job trumpie…

  • TimJ

Pena Nieto: “I quit!” . And Donnie Small Hands cries “You can’t quit, you’re fired!”.

One of the weird tics of right wing commentators is to deliberately mispronounce Pena Nieto’s name, pretending they do not know how to pronounce Spanish names, thereby diminishing the man. Jerkwads.

  • labdad95

The Mexican President made the right decision. Trump would have given him dysentery.

  • JT

Drumpf: If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting.

Nieto: That’s an easy decision to make, especially since you stink.

  • BobSF_94117

Sigh. (How do you say “sigh” in Spanish?). I wish he had taken the opportunity to come and speak to the American people.
