Gingrich: Kick Those Left-Wing Propagandists Out Of The Briefing Room And Replace Them With Citizens

“I’d allow one-fourth or one half of the people at the press conference to be citizens. Why is there this presumption that somebody who calls themselves the press even though they’re total left-wing propagandists, they’re somehow privileged creatures? The question is, should people be allowed to ask questions of the White House? Why does that have to be only the news media? Or why does it have to be only the Washington news media?” – Newt Gingrich, speaking on Fox News today.

Trump already travels with an applause machine entourage. Why not stack the White House briefing room with his sycophants so they can shout down those commie journalists?

  • Clive Johnson

“total left-wing propagandists” = People who reason and value the truth.

  • bambinoitaliano

You mean the way he kicked his ex wife with cancer to the curb?

  • justme

Can we meet the 1st wives club…You and Donnie could fill the press room

  • Michael R

Demonizing the press is the first thing to watch for in Fascism

You use the media as a political propaganda machine to target a specific audience and to push your agenda on others. You make sure your media machine demonizes your opponents and takes your side on nearly every issue. Your media machine disregards facts in favor of flagrant rhetoric and misinformation. You use your propaganda machine to generate fear and hate towards others, especially those you disagree with.

You would think ANYONE on either side would value
the truth to some degree , apparently not .

    • Gil

Money and power. Power and money. Repeat ad nauseam.

    • another_steve

Trump and the theofascist right are a perfect fit. Both are masters of the same skills.

Play on people’s fear. Fear of “the other.”

      Become the “Bringer of Truth.”

      Offer a path to salvation.

    • DesertSun59

The Right is fully in line with this fascist cause because they quite literally have no idea what fascism is.

  • Millstone
  • Christopher

“The question is, should people be allowed to ask questions of the White House?”

THIS is a chilling statement and should NOT be glossed over.

    • YakHerder

Correct: either because his answer is “no,” or because he does not consider journalists to be “people.”

    • Daveed_WOW

      Literally no one cares.

      • Christopher

        Figuratively, not literally.

        I care.

    • MT YVR

The use of dehumanizing terms like “creatures” is what chilled the hell out of me.

    • Jerry

IF reporters are ever allowed to ask questions again, I think a reporter at each press conference needs to ask, “Is there any basis to your statement, or is this just ‘alternative facts’ again?”

      • Rick Zajac

“Are you telling us the truth or is this just another LIE, Mr. President?”

    • goofy_joe

I agree. Makes me sick to my stomach to see these horrible men getting away with saying god awful things.

    • jonfromcalifornia

Welcome to the new United States of Soviet Russia (USSR).

  • Gustav2

Citizens = Real Americans™ right Newt?

  • Rex

How many Right-Wing Propagandists are gonna give up their seats?

  • Gustav2

Newt, I would not be as polite as the MSM.

  • Pollos Hermanos

Look for the return of Jeff Gannon/James Guckert any time now.

  • JT

Gingrich: Why should people be allowed to ask questions?

Why should you be allowed to talk?

    • Snarkaholic

“Why should women be allowed to have abortions?”
Why should YOU be allowed to ejaculate?

    • another_steve

Why should he be allowed to marry, being as he abandons his wives once they become sick and a nuisance?

  • Michael R

This is like Televangelists who know they have to
keep the scam going in order to maintain their status .

    • Bared Bear

Maybe he’ll end up ripping off the ignorant by selling buckets of dehydrated potatoes and corn meal with that PTL club guy.

  • Millstone

I hate it when Newt is right, but I’m afraid he may be onto something. Today, he also said this:

“The average American isn’t paying attention to this stuff. They are going to look around in late 2019 and early 2020 and ask themselves if they are doing better. If the answer’s yes, they are going to say, ‘Cool, give me some more.'”

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/22/us/politics/donald-trump-aides-rocky-first-weekend.html?_r=0

    • Bj Lincoln

I read that too. That statement is an insult wrapped in truth. Scary.

      • Snarkaholic

But how many of them will think they’re doing better when they no longer have health care and the costs of many types of merchandise have nearly tripled?

        • Bj Lincoln

Most of them will be pissed. The way Drumpf and the GOP are talking, they are going to turn our country into a money making machine on the backs of the poor. Screw the old, poor and sick. They will die quickly when the ACA is repealed. The rest of us will be taking a pay cut to work in a factory making war machines. We will be taxed while the corps. and rich will take advantage of no regulations and no taxes. Nothing we make will be cheap and soon ‘buy American’ will cost too much. Wage freezes and pay cuts will make it hard to make ends meet let alone spending on extras.

        • Millstone

We’ll see what happens with health care; a lot of them will be happy with really bad high deductible plans as long as they’re cheap. I don’t see the cost of things tripling.

Tax cuts: Under the Trump plan I’m gonna pay thousands less. I don’t mind paying taxes. Trump voters do.

    • NZArtist

If by ‘Better’ you mean ‘Have a new TV’ the answer is probably yes. They wont realize the slow creep of climate change is killing them and their children, that other countries have ramped up hostilities to the US, that their current job is unsustainable – the subsidies that enabled it will run out next year, that their children are less educated and have less access to affordable healthcare, that they’ve sacrificed more rights, that the supreme court is stacked with people who will take away their future rights…
But, hey, they have a new TV.

  • djcoastermark

And newty keeps up with his rants by calling for Madonnas’ arrest after her speech at the Womens March saturday. (saw the article in business insider)

  • Ragnar Lothbrok
  • Ninja0980

I and countless others have said it before and I’ll say it again here.
Never forget that this POS is the one who really made D.C. a toxic place to be.
He made any and all lies acceptable, made compromise a dirty word and let crackpots like Helen Chenoweth acceptable members of the Republican party instead of the far left crackpots they were.
Trump was the end result of Gingrich and his Republican Revolution.
Too bad we have to deal with the fallout from that.

    • Chuck in NYC

      Exactly. And thank you.

  • another_steve

Newt Gingrich is a bleeding pustule attached to the Republican Party’s anal area.

    • Supercubby

That’s really insulting to anal pustules, Steve.

      • another_steve

I realize that now. I’ve already received death threats from APADL.

        (The Anal Pustule Anti-Defamation League)

        • Bared Bear

Yeah. They have a strong lobby in D.C. They don’t play.

  • DaddyRay

And when they need the networks and newspapers to push their agenda those citizens will be of no value because they don’t have the audience

  • greenmanTN
    • djcoastermark

I see he’s cleaned up his act a bit /s

  • We have now gone into bizarro world. Really they just want people who won’t question the [pretend] President, don’t ask any questions [as anything beyond asking about tits is too complex for Trump] and just obey the [Nazi] leader. Maybe this is the bunch they want at their briefings:

        • Treant

I can honestly say the thought had never crossed my mind.

Thanks for that. It should see that I stay awake until my 2 AM dose of colon cleanser for my test tomorrow. No way could I sleep with THAT image in my head.

          • zhera

Best of luck on that. My only experience with that is through my mother, who was in so much pain (obstructions in the intestines) that they had to use a tiny camera meant for children.

Gastritis. They’re just checking Up There to assure that nothing’s wrong. Which it probably isn’t.

          • MT YVR

Strangely the WH could use a dose of that too. It’d get rid of the debris that just moved in.

        • Bared Bear

I’m sure it involves lacquering each other up with something gross and unctuous… like smegma and snail slime.

    • Steverino

And who has a lesbian sister he claims to “love” yet has passed and pushed for every anti-gay law you can think of.

      • Xuuths

I’ve met little Candace Gingrich. She’s articulate and progressive. And clear that she doesn’t speak for her brother, or vice versa. She said that typically they don’t discuss politics (or religion) at family gatherings.

        • Bared Bear

I don’t think that I could go to family gatherings with POS lurking behind the potato salad. Although, I do have some family members who probably are just as shitty, but at least I’m blissfully ignorant as to what they think… for the most part.

    • Acronym Jim

Ah yes, the model “citizen journalist.”

      • Bared Bear

I’m sure he’d like to roll off Karl Rove about now.

  • OdieDenCO

“the question is, should people be allowed to ask questions of the White House?” Gingrich has become an enemy of democracy. It is our right and duty as American citizens to question our government.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Gingrich: But we are not acting like fascist, not at all.
Half the country: Sure Jan, sure.

  • Tom Ato

Newt, remind me again why you were run out of the House of Representatives.

Oh, damn. He would have to have a cute Howdy Doody face. Bastard. That makes me hate him even more.

      • ByronK

That was years ago before the evil seeped in.

  • ColdCountry

Is he saying that journalists are not citizens? Or just the ones who ask awkward questions?

  • If you keep your ears and eyes open, something new can be learned every day. Today I learned that members of the Press aren’t citizens! What wondrous things will I learn tomorrow?

    • The_Wretched

If they ask the wrong question or post the wrong information, who knows if they will be citizens tomorrow?

      • Bad Tom

We already know that people crossing the boarder can have the wrong political affiliation.

      • DesertSun59

No one can revoke anyone’s birth citizenship. The POTUS and no one in any gov’t agency can do that.

        • The_Wretched

The republicans float revoking citizenship in their rhetoric. while it wouldn’t be legal now, I have not seen the limits this admin will go to.

    • djcoastermark

Didn’t the orange one already call journalists the most vile creatures? See, not citizens… /s

    • Bared Bear

That water isn’t the only thing that can come out of shower heads.

    • Bad Tom

You are not a citizen either!
      Nor am I.

    • Todd20036

That only Trumpanzees are citizens. The rest of us are not.

  • Halou

In other words, citizenship should be conditional on political affiliation and the degree to which a person is loyal to the Head of State. Anyone who does not meet this new definition of “citizenship” is stripped of their rights guaranteed under the constitution. Liberal? You may as well be an immigrant, and we know what’s going to happen to them in the coming years. It wont be immediate but it is coming.

“The question is, should people be allowed to ask questions of the White House?”
    Apparently the answer is “No”.

  • Jukesgrrl

They have to make sure 4chan and Stormfront have a voice.

    • Halou

And that person who is a “former” employee of RussiaToday and in just the last 6 hours found a job at the Hicksville News Gazette, what coincidence.

Oh! And the “independent” journalists like Mr Graham Phillips, the Brit goon who regards his citizenship as nothing more than a ‘get out of jail free’ card and a means to agitate hostilities across eastern Europe. Damned annoying that the government can’t seem to find the courage to arrest him.
Anyway… His ‘career’ in Ukraine went from posting online reviews of Ukrainian prostitutes a few years ago to buying a journalism drone thanks to crowdfunding (read: from the Kremlin through indirect means) only to let the Donbas militias use it for funsies. Interestingly, Donbas artillery ended up accurately shelling Ukrainian army positions not long afterwards. Hmmm.

  • Brian in Valdosta

He isn’t even making any sense. (Not that this comes as a surprise to anyone here in the comments section of This Here Website Thingie.)

I would turn his own question back on him. “Why is there this presumption that somebody who calls himself a member of Congress, even though he is a right-wing fascist tool, that he is somehow a privileged creature?”

And furthermore, yes, ANYONE should be allowed to ask questions of the White House! That is what’s called a Democracy!

  • Sashineb
    • The_Wretched

I’ll take attempting to chill free speech for $200. Madonna is famous and wealthy enough to avoid real legal trouble. This shot is against other people who aren’t as well off and can’t afford to fight even a frivolous arrest.

    • ultragreen

Like Trump, Newt is unable to tolerate assertive women, especially if they are intelligent and pretty.

  • coram nobis

Sidebar, on topic: Alexey Kovalev covered Putin and has some interesting insights.

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/23/reported-putin-journalists-trump-media

All this has led to hand-wringing among the American media: how do we treat this administration that is prepared to lie to our faces and expects to get away with it? For someone who has been covering Vladimir Putin and Russian politics from Moscow for long enough, like me, it sounds all too familiar. Watching Trump’s press conference rang a lot of bells: the evasion, the bare-faced lies, the failure of the astonished members of the press to rally around their colleagues singled out for abuse.

  • GayOldLady

Send me to ask the press secretary questions. Send anyone who comments here to ask trump’s press secretary questions. I guarantee you it will be tougher questions than what the press asks, so you better rethink that newtie.

  • Henry Auvil

Put Milo Fuckalopolis in Helen Thomas’ old seat. That’ll serve the people well.

    • Bared Bear

Put Jeff Gannon next to him and we’ll have gay sex on C-SPAN. Won’t someone think of the childrens!

  • The_Wretched

Most people are horrified to learn about nazi germany, their ideology and abuses. Newt instead got excited and asked, why not here? We know it’s possible, let’s do it.

    • The other night I stumbled across a series of programs called “Apocalypse: Hitler” and it was terrifying to watch. Obviously the players and language were different, but the similarities between the cadence of speech and mannerisms of Trump and Hitler were frightening. And when you see who Hitler surrounded himself with…all I can say is “history repeating itself.”

  • Henry Auvil

And the White House comment line has been shut down, Newt. So much for empowering the people to question the president.

  • Mark

or maybe they should just keep the angry, has-been, washed-out, decaying old white politicians off the friggin ‘news’. fuck off already.

  • T-Batwoman

I think it’s a great idea, on account of a vast majority of citizens voting for Hill.

  • Gianni

Newt seems to be feeling his oats again. Newt, you were a bastard way back when and you still are.

    • MaryJOGrady

I remember his early 1990’s proposal to take children away from parents who received welfare and put them in government orphanages.

      • Jerry

Yes, and good luck getting a GOP congress to actually fund that…they’d find that it was much more expensive than the welfare.

        • MaryJOGrady

It was just one more way to torture and humiliate the poor.

      • McSwagg

Didn’t he want to put those kids to work to “earn their keep”?

  • ultragreen

It’s kind of sad when members of the GOP think the mainstream corporate media is too left-wing. You might think that they’re against capitalism now.

  • andrew

By all means bring ordinary citizens in, who know very little about the complex issues, to ask the liars, who know little about telling the truth, the question.

  • David Walker

This guy makes me want to hurl large chunks anyway. And somehow I had the feeling that he’d chime in to reinforce the whole less is more, alternative facts thing. It’s so stupid that he is seen as intellectual, but that’s what the goobs have talked themselves into. And it’s only going to get worse. I am seriously afraid we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.

  • Superman

That’s brilliant Newt, lets really dig in there and try harder to reduce the free press in Washington. There’s a reason, Mr. Gingrich, that you were once considered the most hated and reviled man in Washington. Just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you can be trusted.

    • MaryJOGrady

He is far from smart. The best definition of Newt Gingrich I ever saw: “Newt Gingrich is what ignorant people think an educated person sounds like.”

  • DN

Removing citizenship from people with differing political opinions….

I should make a series called “The DEFINITION of fascism.” This would rank high on the list.

As a business owner, all through the 1990’s and up to 2006 (when the Democrats briefly took over the House), I used to get robo calls from Newt, Dick Armey, Tom Delay, etc., that I had received a business award…to collect I just had to donate X dollars to their PAC or the RCCC. I finally got off their call list somehow.

  • charemor

What rock did Newt crawl out from under and why does he think that anyone cares what he has to say about anything?

    • another_steve

Look, he’s not in prison like his buddy Denny Hastert. Cut him some slack.
