White House Website Scrubbed Of LGBT Rights, Civil Rights, And Climate Change Moments After Swearing In

Twitter wonks noticed this happening moments after Trump was sworn in. Via Esquire:

Donald Trump was just sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. Just gonna leave that there for a moment. As part of the presidential transition, Trump’s team assumes control of WhiteHouse.gov. Before today, the “Issues” tab of the website had a section devoted to climate change, the existential threat posed to our species that a scientific consensus holds is caused by human activity. That section is completely gone with the website revamp, along with any mention of climate change whatsoever. The Civil Rights section is also missing. And the LGBT section.

This is the new issues page.tabs

Oh, and I’m still reading about her foundation and emails in comments elsewhere. Sigh.

As though Trump’s Foundation is clean and ethical and moral. And what is in his emails. Hey, where are his tax returns?

Well. So much for clean water. And air. And human rights. And decency.

            Sad, that.

That reply is a crock of shit. I doubt many maquiladora workers earn $2.75 an hour.

We have midterms in 2018. We have to concentrate on that, get as many progressives to the polls and fight back. Then we continue the fight for 2020.

          • Stephen Elliot Phillips

voter fraud will be a big topic by the right in the lead up to 2018. Gotta keep those pesky liberals away from the polls

          • FAEN

You are correct but that’s just par for the course with them. We have to focus and fight back. This is 2004 all over again. The GOP thought they were going to have a permanent majority and we were on our heels and they lost in a wave in 2006 and 2008. We did it once and we can do it again.

          • david fairfield

No, I disagree. Voter suppression is going to continue now even more. We have to make this a PRIORITY fight. It CANNOT be “par for the course”. This is what makes us lose!

          • FAEN

You misunderstood me. I meant the GOP trying to suppress votes was par for the course. And yes we do need to keep fighting against it.

          • BudClark

My question: why didn’t the Democrats break out the brass knuckles BEFORE the election??? We were warned, repeatedly. Some of us saw this nightmare coming.

It’s going to be a LOT harder and a LOT more expensive to unseat the Republicans in 2018 than it would have been to simply WIN elections in 2016.

Yes, I know, the Republicans are dragging us into the swamp with them, but “nice,” “honest,” etc. doesn’t cut it today.

If I fault President Obama for anything, it was his hopeless pursuit of bipartisanship, when there WAS none, and wasn’t going to BE any.

        • BudClark

Not bloody much, if the Deplorables in evidence at *dt’s “coronation are any indication. They will burn their own country down to avoid having to share it with ni**ers, brown people, LGBTQAIs, and basically anybody else who isn’t a stupid KKKonservative KKKristianist KKKultist (and white, of course).

The Republicans’ attack on public education has been successful.

      • muffler

Just remember what happened in North Carolina after the last election. The Republicans are about to purge government of everything related to promoting the general welfare and preserve and protect the constitution. The Oligarchy has spoken… what magna carta?

        • The_Wretched

I wonder if it’s timely to start making a list of who the oligarchs are and protesting them. See who comes out on the right side of things and who needs more protests.

I consider this disregard for the environment to be the worst of the things the trump administration has in mind. The other things can at least be reversed by some future and saner administration, even if people lose their freedoms and their lives in the meantime, and even if I won’t be around to see it.

By the time this administration and their successors wake up and see the damage they have done to the environment, it will be too late. And the guys who made the money off of this disregard are going to be in the same boat as the rest of us; their money won’t save them, at least not for long. And I’m *glad* I won’t be around to see that; at least I hope not. I’m 65 and in reasonably good health, so I could be wrong about that…

    • Todd20036

Frankly, I won’t even care. People asked for this. Tough

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

I care that I have to live in a country that the right divided by ginning up hatred for Obama, the left in general, LGBTs and then Trump took that hate and campaigned on it and aggressively fanned the flames.

Part of me wants to say “American you deserve this”, but its my country too and I have to live with the shit they created.

        • Todd20036

I agree with you there, but now I have to look after people in my tribe more – I don’t care what happens to non-Clinton voters anymore.

          Include those who are LBGTs.

          • Skokieguy [Larry]

Trans women unfairly target by police with records that prevent them from voting and homeless youth who didn’t vote shouldn’t be lumped in with other non-Clinton voters.

But Log Cabin types and the third party of bernie-or busters, yes, I agree with you, they can go to hell and no sympathy for the consequences they suffer.

          • Todd20036

Well yeah, those who were prevented from voting are a little different than those who consciously chose not to vote.

        • Todd20036

Nonvoters or 3rd party voters or Trump voters can eat dirt for all I care

I do feel for Clinton voters though. We didn’t ask for this shit.

    • safari

Law enforcement feels watched. That’s the joke.

    • Todd20036

Yup. And unarmed blacks are open season

      • Millstone

More bullshit. But why bother with facts and statistics? Police reform and oversight is good. Promoting a false narrative is counterproductive, but damn. It’s dramatic.

        http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2014/aug/29/edward-flynn/fatal-police-shootings-occur-tiny-percentage-arres/

        • Todd20036

You need me to find you examples where a black man was actually obeying a policeman’s orders and got shot anyway, while lying on the ground, and didn’t get punished for it?

          Really?

          • Millstone

0.00003% of arrests involve a fatal shooting. In 2012, 12,197,000 arrests, 410 justifiable homicides. Too many? Yes. “Open season?” No.

Sorry, but I have a very low tolerance for drama.

        • Todd20036

A police chief says police rarely shoot people.

Film at 11. You really picked a lousy link to prove your point.

          • Millstone

Politifact analysis (which is what I was pointing to): Mostly true. Look, I’m not trolling you. Just pointing out that in my opinion your opinion lacks perspective. We probably see eye to eye on most things, fellow manfucker, but we’re not monolithic.

          • Todd20036

When police can kill innocents without penalty, it’s a problem

When we don’t see that as a problem, it becomes a bigger problem.

          • Spaceman Dan

Todd, you’re making a knee-jerk reaction to what Millstone is saying. He didn’t say it wasn’t a problem. He said we need to look at what is going on in reality. Automatically put the entirety of a group into good and bad slots without evidence is a problem. Saying all cops are bad/evil is a problem. If there is any chance for the two sides to heal (and they need to), then one side needs to choose to speak in truth and facts and leave the hyperbole at home.

        • jsmukg

OBVIOUS TROLL IS OBVIOUS. buh-bye, special snowflake!

    • MonochromeMouse

It’s time for people, en masse, to start fighting back against police. Anyone choosing to remain a police officer in this era of corruption is part of the problem. There is no such thing as the proverbial “good cop” anymore they’ve all retired or quit in disgust.

      • Millstone

Everything in your post is just utter bullshit. And yes, I’d say that to you face to face. (I don’t post anything I wouldn’t say to someone over coffee or drinks.)

        • Palmer

If you’re such a stand-up-guy who means what he says and says what he means, why is your comment history private? I would think you’d be happy to stand behind all your comments.

You also have chosen to use an icon meant to automatically put people’s back up, awfully odd behavior for someone who is supposedly trying to get both sides considered, curious that. It’s also curious that you hide behind a screen name, seems more like trolling than actual discourse.

You can use common household bleach to disinfect water. 1/4 tsp per gallon, cap and let sit for a while, uncap and let the bleach disperse a bit (if you wish; it’s safe to drink as-is).

This will kill most organisms, but boiling is better.

        • Very true & most households are more likely to already have bleach – *plain* bleach, please! The cheap, generic sodium hypochlorite stuff – not the “color safe” or other modern/fancy/not-actually-bleach products that call themselves “bleach”.

Still gonna need the Iodine tablets though, for the day some nuclear owning foreign leader triggers Trump’s temper, or the day after Rick Warren learns that you can’t just “turn off” power to a nuclear power plant.

  • Mordred LeFey

Please don’t let this be a slide back into persecution. I’ve tasted freedom. We’ve all tasted freedom. We’ll bring as much hell as we can if it’s taken away from us.

    • Mark

I plan on raising hell…and putting a prop under it.

    • Todd20036

We’ve already seen what happens when a state rolls back LBGT rights. There are going to be freedom states and oppression states.

You may need to move. There will be 2 Americas, and only one will welcome us

      • pch1013

Ditto abortion rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights…

It looks like we will need to have another Civil War, since the first one wasn’t enough to erase America’s original sin.

        • Todd20036

I’m fortunate enough to live in DC. But hell is only a state or two away.

          • stuckinthewoods

If anyone should fear the future it is a resident of the city over which Congress retains review of legislation and control of the budget.

          • Oh’behr

I have hell on either side of me. To the west, North and South Dakota. East; Wisconsin now under Walker is a sort of hell. Canada is to the north (thankfully) with Manitoba and Ontario. Iowa to the south seems like a lost cause. (Also Michigan’s Isle Royale borders Minnesota North Shore and Michigan is also a sort of hell under Snyder).

I feel under Trump that Minnesota might be the only one to keep most of its LGBT laws.

Yet now with a GOP majority in the MN legislature and the governorship up for election next year, I fear what’s at stake if it’s not in the MN Constitution.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Minnesota

      • Mordred LeFey

I do live in Wisconsin. So yeah. Maybe I will need to move.

        • Ninja0980

Your state didn’t used to be that way.
2010 was bad for so many states in so many ways.

        • Oh’behr

That’s sad. Wisconsin used to be so much more progressive than Minnesota (statewide) with (I don’t know about LGBT laws) yet at least for L and G laws back in the 1980s. Was it also in the late 1970s? I’d have to research it.

      • Mark

I’m calling those states RODS: Repression. Oppression. Depression. Suppression.

All will apply at some time during the next 4 yrs.

      • stuckinthewoods

You’re expecting the “freedom states” to stand firm. When NC did that the federal government had our back. We can’t expect that now. We can’t be sure that those private entities that supported us still will. We can’t be sure that companies won’t be suborned to ignore existing laws and not object when they’re changed.

        • BudClark

I PRAY (?) that California will stand firm.

      • BudClark

Well, shooting the “ni**gers” isn’t working, but I suppose shooting US will be next. Insanity is repeating an action over and over again and expecting a different result.

    • Oh’behr

I had to laugh at one troll on a local news site. It’s a center right paper and they called it a far left paper with fake news. I said, awww, did you get lost on your way to Breitbart?

Plus the right’s favorite word now is “snowflake” for anyone they perceive as liberal. Sigh, if anyone is a snowflake it’s them. White and flaky (and easily falling for the fakey).

  • ChrisInKansas

You guys, I’m sure it’s being replaced with a bigger, better page about super gay things. Reparative therapy, cake baker laws, reclaiming the rainbow…

    • Job loss, disallowing medical care, housing discrimination, etc for LGBT folks. The usual things that occur while “making America great again”.

  • Rex

If they think removing these references will silence the cause, they are wrong.

  • John Caruso

How exactly does lifting regulations increase wages? This is just Orwellian doublespeak. Can’t wait till the Trumpettes realize their hero is a con man.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

It increases wages for the 1% only

    • Rambie

That’s take some critical thinking I’m not sure the Trumpettes are willing to do.

    • lileasy

That will never happen. These folks are truly, truly dumb.

The company I work for had a town hall recently. My CEO could not have been more over joyed on the whole lifting of regulations. You know shit is bad for you when a CEO practically jizzes his pants about the incoming president’s policies on ridding us of government regulations on big companies.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I heard the fundajelicals HATE it when you mention that the man they voted for said “Grab them by the pussy.”

        • Gigi

I had a conversation with one who said, “He might not be perfect but he’s better than abortion loving, lyin’ Hillary!” If they can convince themselves that the virgin birth, Adam & Eve, Noah and his ark and so many other crazy are real, they can convince themselves of anything.

          • Bomer

Nice how the over look that he wanted Marla to abort Tiffany.

          • Gigi

They’ve all had abortions too. Some of my best friends in high school were “good Christian girls” whose fathers were ministers. None of them were virgins, and most had at least one abortion before they graduated. They all told me that I’d go to hell for being gay — it’s a “chosen lifestyle” after all — but were certain that they’d be forgiven. Why? They asked for forgiveness.

          • BudClark

Yep. They’d “go visit Aunt Martha” …

          • Gigi

That’s a bit before my time. (lol!) My friends “went to the Bahamas” for the weekend.

        • BudClark

It occurs to me that we might be focusing too much on the same-sex scandals in the KKKonservative KKKristianist “churches.” I’m sure there are just as many, if not more opposite-sex scandals. But I know from growing up in the Deep South that people just chuckle and shrug their shoulders at THOSE.

          • Skeptical_Inquirer

I consider the Konservative churches to be a major source of the whole “boys will be boys” culture in this country. Quite a few Christian women became disenchanted with their congregation when either they or their daughters were victims of sexual harassment (or worse) and they were lectured on how THEY had to forgive the perp, especially if the perp was high up in the church.

      • Michael Abbett

They never have a satisfactory answer to that and they never will. Angry and ignorant are their default states.

        • pch1013

Most of them like Trump not because they think he will help them, but because they think he will hurt other people.

          • Michael Abbett

To make other people hurt as badly as they are hurting. They want to drag everyone else down to their level.

          • BudClark

I don’t deny that they’re hurting … some of those images of poverty from Appalachia and the Deep South are truly horrifying … but they don’t seem to understand that voting for *dt will only make their lives indescribably WORSE.

          • Michael Abbett

It’s generation after generation voting against their own interests. Trump is far from the first con man to come along bringing false promises under the guise of empathy, but they’ve fallen for every single one.

      • BudClark

They’ll find out what they won soon enough, when they lose the entire social safety net they THOUGHT they were only taking away from people THEY hate.

    • Lazycrockett

  • Gigi

I live in Canada. My man and I have been together for more close to 28 years. Marriage, despite the fact that it’s been available to us since 2003, was never a priority for us. Until now. If Trump could become POTUS there’s no telling what might happen here. It’s not very romantic but now we’re thinking of getting married while we still can. Who wants to come to our wedding in Toronto?

    • Treant

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! My husband and I were going to do it, but this was the motivating factor. We got our asses in two weeks after the election.

    • madknits

I’ve been to Montreal many times, but never to Toronto. A wedding is a good reason.

    • Oh’behr

I wish I could do so, yet I’ll wish you all the best. Hugs from Minnesota

    • Earl

I’ll be there in spirit, it’s a bit far from Edmonton.

      Unless you’re buying me a ticket? 🙂

      • Gigi

If I win the lottery, sure. No problem! (I visited Edmonton one summer many years ago, when I was 16 years old. Went to the one and only gay bar in town. A really cute guy bought me a drink and grabbed my bum. I almost passed out with excitement.)

        • Earl

Only one bar? Was it Boots&Saddles? Or did you miss one when you were here? 🙂

          • Gigi

It was a long time ago. The bar was called Flashback.
            https://edmontonqueerhistoryproject.wordpress.com/2015/01/29/flashback-gay-bar/

          • Earl

Boots is older than Flash was…

I remember both, from my youth. 🙂

          • Gigi

So I guess I only went to the one. What’s there now?

          • Earl

Flash was really a weekend only bar, it’s housing now. For a short time they tried to open all of the time, but that ended.

I don’t go out anymore, so I’m not sure where the young ones go. 🙂

          • Gigi

I’m still young (am I?), but now “going out” means taking clients out to dinner.

          • Earl

Time changes things. When I was very young, I thought 40 was ancient. Now that I’m 50… 😀

          • Gigi

When I was 20 I said, “Why should I quit smoking, I don’t want to live past 30!” As I approached 30 I quit smoking.

    • Stogiebear

There is much of married life that is anything but romantic, but after 28 years you already know this. Take advantage of the legal protections and responsibilities that being wed will afford you both before the Trumpian virus runs rampant across your borders. And let us know when the date is so we can at least offer congratulations if not attend!

      • Gigi

Yes, I do know that but I’m happy to report that even after being together for close to 28 years we not only still love one another, we enjoy spending time together as well. I’ll be sure to let you all know when we set a date. (I’m actually getting nervous about it. What will I wear?)

        • Stogiebear

All of that sounds wonderful! Wedding clothes tip: Don’t wear anything that you’ll be embarrassed to have seen in the photos 20 years from now.

          • Gigi

“For the 58th time, the system has worked, and power has smoothly transferred from one heir of George Washington to another. The truth is not so happy. With full advance notice, and despite the failure to gain a plurality of the nation’s vote, the United States will soon inaugurate someone who owes his office in some large part to a hostile foreign intelligence operation. Who is, above and beyond that, a person whose character that leaves him unqualified to hold the presidency, and threatens the country with an impending sequence of financial and espionage scandals—a constitutional crisis on two legs.”

“The real message of today is that the system has failed. The challenge of the morrow is to know what to do to save the remainder.”

President Trump is committed to building a border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities. Climate change deniers, when shit hits the fan, deserve either a long walk off a short pier or a lead injection. I realize this goes against the community guidelines, but these people are going to fuck things up beyond any chance of repair.

    • Earl

worldwide sea ice extent was 7+ sigmas below the mean last month.

I suspect the shit may be hitting the fan now. 🙁

Michelle looks like she’s only smiling because there’s a camera. I don’t blame her, just noticing.

      • bambinoitaliano

I command her to be able to even be so close to the deplorables.

      • coram nobis

Probably wondering what Ivanka Trump markdown is inside.

  • Sjorgl

Oh don’t worry. Peter Thiel said everything will be fine.

    • IamM

He meant he’ll be fine. And he was wrong.

I believe the estimated cost for her paddington bear/turd-party dress is 3600.00
      so much for populism, huh?
Melania’s dress was couture ralph lauren.

    • madknits

      Please notice the pussy buttons.
Yes, the buttons are cat heads.
      I need to have a lie-down. I’ve got a terrific headache.

      Didn’t Paddy have Wellington boots?

      • Earl

Yes, he does. Uhh, did. I don’t have one of them.

  • Robert Anthony

Everywhere the new “president” goes, I hope that people physically, deliberately, and visibly turn their backs toward him.

    • billbear1961

Yes, I’ve thought that would be a good way for TRUE citizens to show their CONTEMPT for the PIG.

  • JCF

Shit, do we all have to UNSUB from whitehouse.gov now?

  • Talisman

I doubt those are the only things the deplorables are going to attempt to scrub.

  • Mickey Bitsko

Where were the flag wavers? Nary a one to be found in this photo. (I posted this earlier on Little Green Footballs and someone replied that the flags Trumpeteers fly aren’t the kind they want to be seen waving in public.)

At least Dear Leader is calling himself “our movement” and not “the United States” as a franchise.

Speaking of climate, it looks like the Deep South can expect severe weather today and tomorrow. You can omit the website but it won’t omit the Fujita scale.

    • djcoastermark

I’m sure all the thoughts and prayers will deflect Mr Fujita.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

There are a lot of things I would like to say, but I will remain silent as it would play into the hands of the enemy.

  • david fairfield

All the new trolls, feeling empowered, entitled. Welcome! Bring your best word salad, and just know that you’ll be reduced to crying and running away before the end of the day. And take your Tupperware with you.

    • KnownDonorDad

I’m so unimpressed with this wave of trolls. Run-on sentences, repetitive insults, poor sentence structure. Is a literate taunt to much to ask for?

  • coram nobis

    “American Carnage.” Now playing.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Damn it to hell! Am I late to the party and missed the trolls? Where are they? Oh, they make me titter so!

    • Johnny Wyeknot

If you want trolls go to The Hill.

  • Earl

Hmmm, so we’re going to conclude a real live version of Mythbusters. Will increasing the output of CO2 finally melt the rest of the world’s ice in our lifetimes.

    Lucky us.

  • Johnny Wyeknot
    • Pip

I’ll be the first to say these are terrible people, but I see nothing about QVC on the page.

I do see this line though: Melania is also a successful entrepreneur. In April 2010, Melania Trump launched her own jewelry collection.

      • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

        They scrubbed QVC.

        • Pip

          Now that I can believe.

        It’s still up! done here!

  • pch1013

When – after a couple of years of fascist rule – the deplorables realize they’re still unhappy and broke, they will slither back under their rocks. And I will laugh and laugh.

  • Tempus Fuggit

C’mon, folks, this is not hard to understand. None of those things matters any more; under Trumplethinskin we’re all equally screwed.

  • Chris Gardner

We as Democrats need to spend the next 4 years focusing on the local grassroots work and get progressives elected into local school boards, mayoral, commissioner, governor, and other seats.

    • MΩebym

Yes, this. If Democrats continue to do what we have been doing, which is running only where we think we can win, nothing is going to change.

  • Scott MB

All that was removed but links to his wife’s QVC jewlery line have been added. WTF?! Talk about making money off the Presidency, totally an ethics violation.

  • Phil in FLL

    Joe Jervis,

My comment, just below, was informational. Why was it deleted?

  • DN

If I’m not your constituent, why should you be my president?

  • Henry Auvil

For some reason, they left up the petitions page on WhiteHouse.gov. Someone posted a petition for Trump to release his tax returns and financials. In the short time between signing it and receiving the confirmation email, the number of signers went from 13,000 to over 26,000. I’m thinking that feature will be scrubbed from the site by the end of Day One.

  • BudClark

Isn’t Haleyville the home of the late Mother Angelica and the National Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament?

If it is, that explains a lot … it’s a nest of super-reactionary Roman Catholics.

OT: My faith has been shaken. Chthulhu didn’t rise up from the swamp *dt has stirred up and eat his liver.

  • Marti386

“Folks, please do not engage our latest troll, who appears to posting from his job at the Dollar Tree in Haleyville, Alabama.”

If he works at the Dollar Tree, the LAST person he should be supporting is Trump.

What a shocker. Scientifically illiterate morons take control.

    Peeraze the Baby Jeebus!

  • gary47290

There’s a typo on the new White House website. It is “Make America grate again.”

    • Piona O.

      Grate? Mozzarella? Parmesan?

  • Eddie Hamilton

It will never be restored because that material has been classified by law as presidential papers and are now the property of the National Archives. . You can find it at obamawhitehouse.gov. It’s all there. The current whitehouse.gov is for current presidents material only. There was announcement on January 17th about the web site transition,

  • MDixon34

This really shouldn’t shock anybody. Why should snowflake donny’s White House be given any credit for the good work Obama did? We’re starting from scratch here people. “Sad” indeed.
