Multiple Federal Agencies Investigate Whether Kremlin Money Was Used To “Covertly Aid” Trump Campaign

Gosh, hearing about this when it started totally could have affected the election. McClatchy reports:

The FBI and five other law enforcement and intelligence agencies have collaborated for months in an investigation into Russian attempts to influence the November election, including whether money from the Kremlin covertly aided President-elect Donald Trump, two people familiar with the matter said. The agencies involved in the inquiry are the FBI, the CIA, the National Security Agency, the Justice Department, the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and representatives of the director of national intelligence, the sources said.

Investigators are examining how money may have moved from the Kremlin to covertly help Trump win, the two sources said. One of the allegations involves whether a system for routinely paying thousands of Russian-American pensioners may have been used to pay some email hackers in the United States or to supply money to intermediaries who would then pay the hackers, the two sources said.

There’s lots and lots more at the link. Read it. And stand by Hair Furor’s tweeted screams.

  • Bared Bear

The slog to impeach this bastard will be bittersweet… because then we’ll have the Prez Pencil dick.

    • Cackalaquiano

At least I don’t think Pence will go nuke France or anything. So there’s that. He’ll be too busy figuring out how to legislate Jesus-sharia.

      • Bared Bear

Yes… frak. We’ll have state-sponsored creationism museums and “life-sized replicas” of Noah’s freaking ark. But not him being naked and his nakedness being looked upon by his son(s). Never quite understood that bible story… so was his sons lusting after their father or wtf? Just say what you mean, you stupid King James version of word slaw.

        • Silver Badger

Noah was a weird one. Ham was the only one of his sons that tried to help the drunken old fool and his entire line of descendants get slammed for it. Not cool.

        • Ernest Endevor

Noah got drunk on the wine of the first vintage in celebration to God the way one does. Of course he ripped off all his clothes because drunk. His son Ham’s duty was to cover his father’s nakedness and fetch him a vente black. Instead of which he committed sacrilege by laughing at his father. For this sacrilege You Know Who cursed his line, i.e. Canaan, his son, who happened to be in a field picking cotton and minding his own business. You know the rest.

        • Cackalaquiano

I grew up Southern Baptist, and we didn’t deal with any parts of the Bible that talked about nekkidness.

          • Bared Bear

I grew up Ass of God. The act of “homo naked lusting” and who was doing the “homo in the butt secks” was the soup du jour for every sermon. That and getting up off your damn, evil money and giving it right damn now as tithes to the church or else Jesus was going to poke you in the heinie with his wagging finger of disappointment.

          • JCF

Oh, but those are the best parts!

“My love thrust his hand through the opening, and my feelings were stirred for him.

I rose to open for my love. My hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh on the handles of the bolt.”

            [Song of Songs 5:4-5]

        • Jerry

Yes, that’s another of their stories that somehow got messed up in translation. As written, it really makes no sense on any level.

        • Smartypants

If Pence were truly biblical, he’d revive the practice of genital oaths which were common in the Middle East and Rome back in the day. All those passages about laying your hand on pappy’s thigh to swear an unbreakable oath (Genesis 24:2 for a start) are cleaned up ways of saying, “you grab my balls and I’ll grab yours” and G*d forbid you don’t keep this promise. It was kind of the ultimate pinky swear.

It’s also why the words testicle, testimony, and testify all share the same, um, root.

          • KCMC

            I can shake on that.

A Pence presidency for LGBT people would be electrifying and shocking.

        • Cackalaquiano

          It sure would.

          • jixter

Except for the fact that Pence has less-than-zero charisma or star quality. He’s about as cardboard-like as Chuck Todd. He could easily be defied and he’d lose a Presidential re-election by himself. In that regard, he’s similar to Tim Kaine.

EDIT: Pence would end up being an ‘accidental’ President and he’d be treated like one.

2nd EDIT: And on further thought, with Pence becoming President and also the standard-bearer for the ‘Religious Right’, it would spell the end of political power for the ‘Religious Right’.

            Bring it.

          • david fairfield

He impresses me, the way he speaks, as a little hurt puppy, but in a totally fake way that I’m not buying. His way of hiding his hate and contempt, I guess, if anyone buys it.

      • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Pence only ran rampant on anti-gay law bc it fit his location.

He’s a career politician & still needs political power after stepping down. I don’t think Pence will do too many crazy crap rocking the GOP despite how much he believe gays should go to jail.

That’s the thing about Tramp. He doesn’t have to suffer political blow back. He can issue whatever crap, worst case for him is not getting re-elected 2020

        • Piet

Because now that Tramp’s been elected, even if he’s only in the White House for the thirty-five seconds it takes for a photo op and immediately gets carted off to court and thence to jail, he’s entitled to government healthcare, a fat government pension, and government security detail for the rest of his disgusting days.

          • Kim K’s Kute Koochy✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

what you mean? Pence cares if he upsets the majority . His GOP constituents care for mid term & next election. He has bigger fish to fry anyway.

as for Tramp, I truly believe he doesn’t give a crap about gays , one way or another. He flip-flops plenty to get votes but has been very consistent with keeping Obergefell as is. It’s too much work for him. Granted, Pence will draft most of it but Tramp’s face gonna be everywhere defending such laws. I dont see him putting the effort into sth that doesn’t benefit him

    • Alan S. Lee

Trump and Pence ran as one, they should go as one. The only one to take their spot is Clinton/Kaine.

      • Jukesgrrl

        • Cousin Bleh

Dems need to win back Congress and then impeach them both. President Pelosi works for me.

    • Cuberly

I’m thinking the only way we’ll reach maximum potential for impeachment is after the GOP lays waste to the social safety net and implements every pet cause in their christianist vault.

Then, maybe the GOP will realize it’s safe to dump trump. Their self interests ALWAYS come first.

      • rusty57

…but, is any of this going to accomplish anything? There’s an entire political party dedicated to backing the criminal at all costs. He’s the front for their dream-ticket of crazy legislation.

    • canoebum

And what about the Alfa Bank server hidden in Trump Tower? When will the FBI seize that for forensic investigation?

    • Orly

Yes! I read the whole thing when buzzfeed released it. I though the “#peegate” stuff was kind of irrelevant compared to the rest of the information. And this funding strategy was discussed and, according to the report, implemented.

It’s well worth the read IMO.

      • Cuberly

I read most of it, not all of it. But yeah, the peegate stuff was just sauce for the orange goose, so to speak. Hell of a lot more in there that’s damning.

  • William

I just had my inauguration daydream.

Friday, January 20. President-elect Trump and Chief Justice John Roberts stand at the podium. Justice Roberts says, “Mr Donald Trump, are you ready?” Trump replies, “Yes I am”. Justice Roberts pulls a folded blue paper from his inside robe pocket and states, “Donald J Trump, you are served.”

    • Jeffg166

I have my doubts about the FBI’s role in this.

Comey found it necessary to send a letter to Congress and the press when there was a question about Boehner’s emails and whether or not they had anything to do with Hilary Clinton, even though this ultimately came to nothing we all simply needed to know about it right from the get-go. But Trump’s ties to a foreign government? Nope. Got to keep that quiet, investigation is ongoing so we can’t say anything one way or the other.

Trump’s election is as much thanks to the FBI as anyone else. They had the power to stop it dead in it’s tracks but they did nothing.

They never stopped. And we have no proof they did not actually accept such donations — or flat-out bribes — because they were so lax and secretive with their required campaign paperwork.

And people thought Nixon was corrupt…

  • bobbyjoe

Yeah, but they didn’t hack any of the actual voting machines, right? The Kremlin was going to all this trouble, but there, in the area that would make the most difference, well, they just suddenly stopped, drew an ethical line, and said “nope, not gonna go there.” And, you know, there’s not anything else to suggest a much more thorough investigation might be seriously needed, like if there were election results that were crazily out of whack with the polling. Sure thing.

Why take a chance leaving evidence of such tampering when they could achieve the same result with propaganda?
