Jewish Group Condemns Trump’s “Nazi” Tweet

Via press release from the Anti-Defamation League:

The President-Elect’s use of Nazi Germany to make a political analogy is not only an inappropriate comparison on the merits, but it also coarsens our discourse and diminishes the horror of the Holocaust.

There are legitimate questions on all sides regarding foreign influence in the 2016 presidential race. But the United States has democratic elections, a free press, rule of law and a civil service — including our intelligence agencies — that is deeply loyal to the U.S. Constitution. These facts invalidate any analogies between America and totalitarian societies.

ADL always has maintained that glib comparisons to Nazi Germany are offensive and a trivialization of the Holocaust. We have a long record of speaking out when both Democrats and Republicans engage in such overheated rhetoric. It would be helpful for the President-Elect to explain his intentions or apologize for the remark.

Yeah, don’t hold your breath.

  • Randy503

Yes, because the whole Nazi thing was about smearing Hitler.

    • HZ81

      History buff, he ain’t.

    • Nax

Yeah. Completely lost me on that one.

  • Lazycrockett

But but his daughter converted what more do you want???????SAD!

  • Bared Bear

But did they look at his heart?

    • Lars Littlefield

Yes, and it’s encrusted with salt. And it’s not kosher salt.

    • John

      he has one????

  • Randy503

“It would be helpful for the President-Elect to explain his intentions or apologize for the remark.”

Keep goading him and then Bannon will explode with some anti-semitic attack, or Trump will tweet it at 3am. We know how his mind works by now.

  • HZ81

He’s shitting his pants in a lather right now, begging KellyAnne to give his phone back.

  • Jamie_Johnson

We’re not living in Nazi Germany… yet. We have another week or so.

  • RGG

    “One last shot at me.”
    That’s cute.

    • EdmondWherever

      “… this morning”.

    • Snarkaholic

“Last” seems to imply that he’s planning to oust them all.

  • EdmondWherever

Don’t listen to what he says, listen to what’s in his heart!

  • Rebecca Gardner

Stupid fucks like this is why we have Trump.

    • agcons

If Roger Clinton had brewed or endorsed beer surely it would have been Roger Beer?

      I can’t even . . .

      Gawd I love you Becca.

Total piece of work, these Trump apologists!

    • John
    • Jerry

That…and what idiot can’t spell “princess”?

  • Bared Bear

So… you expect an illegitimate president to have a legitimate outlook on life, history, and the general welfare of others?

  • Lars Littlefield

    Go Jews!

  • another_steve

We Jews are rightfully sensitive about careless and carefree allusions to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.

I lost family members in the Holocaust.

I remember, as a child, my grandparents showing me photos of great-aunts, great-uncles and their children who were herded into the gas chambers.

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

Hi Steve. My family came in the 1900s, but I think you know where I live and the the history of my town.

I think Nazi analogies ARE appropriate for Trump. But only when acknowledging his statement about: Rounding up illegals by any means necessary / Roving deporting forces / Banning an entire religion from the US / Requiring certain groups of people to carry identity papers

      • another_steve

        Yes, Larry. I hear you.

We must learn from the past, or we are doomed.

        • Todd20036

You can drop the first part of that compound sentence.

If we learned from the past, Trump wouldn’t be president

          • Gianni

Unfortunately, something like this man being elected President has no past to learn from. It has never happened before.

          • Gianni

Not that it would have mattered anyway. We don’t learn from history, we just repeat it.

          • Todd20036

Check out Germany’s past You’ll get an idea

          • Gianni

Well, that’s Germany’s past. I was thinking in terms of our country’s past.

  • Bared Bear

One last shot… before what exactly?

    • KCMC

perhaps wish that it might be the last shot. ZOMG, hold on, #PEEOTUS!

  • Joe in PA

There are legitimate questions on all sides regarding foreign influence in the 2016 presidential race.

WTF? On all sides? What does that even mean?

    • BobSF_94117

I think they’re just trying to point out that Dems and (a tiny handful of) Republicans are asking.

      • Joe in PA

Thanks, I was wondering if that is what they were trying to say.

  • dcurlee

He thinks if he keeps saying the things he’s saying people will believe it….that worked with his voters but not with people that have half a brain. I’ve got a friend that actually believes Trump saved those jobs with Carrier

    • Ben in Oakland

you need a better class of friend.

  • agcons

Are you fucking kidding us, Drumpf? You cannot see disturbing parallels between Nazi Germany and the US under you and your hench-troglodytes?

    The mind reels.

    • charemor

My guess is that Trump doesn’t know a damn thing about history and could care less.

      • CottonBlimp

That’s how he appeals to his voters.

  • Paula

Are we living in Nazi Germany?
No Donnie, I’m sure you are working on it, though!

    • Friday

Also of course the actual Nazi at his right hand. And the others Nazi-saluting him with theirs.

  • Ninja0980

We don’t live in Nazi Germany but Trump certainly wants to make it that way.

  • geoffalnutt

Please. Donald doesn’t do “dialogue”. He simply raves…being the lunatic he is. Putin is laughing his ass off.

    • Gianni

Yeah, Putin is laughing his ass off on top of being thoroughly delighted at having helped sway the election to his puppet. Just imagine how many former Soviet dictators passionately dreamt of having an American President cuddle up to them and allow them to pull his strings.

  • Lazycrockett

Everyone is just frothing at the mouth for someone to go first so everyone can jump on pissgate.

    • AJ Drew

I think you are correct, but until then… it’s all… crap, the only analogy I can think of is: “pissing in the wind,” but there’s got to be more.

  • Rebecca Gardner

    #TrumpPressConference is trending on Twitter.

  • Rex

One by one he’ll piss off and disenfranchise every possible group he can.

    • Bared Bear

Hope so. But there will be those shuffling up to him hat-in-hand and hangdog in the guise of “unifying” and being “bipartisan” and thereby legitimizing this farce.

  • TampaDink

Unpaid, Jewish, 1st son-in-law needs to step up & take over the administrations relations with all Jews, foreign & domestic. Oh…and about the part of the twit’s tweet, “One last shot at me…” I think that there will be plenty more shots at him, in the figurative sense of the word, of course.

    • BobSF_94117

Be careful what you suggest. He’s supposedly going to take over negotiations in the Middle East.

      • sfbob

        What a horrible idea.

        • BobSF_94117

Nah… all they need is a good deal maker…

      • TampaDink

Nothing, no matter how horrifying the likely outcome might be, would surprise me under the coming reign of terror.

    • MichaelJ

Kushner trying to control what Trump says about Jews or anyone else for the most part won’t work. While Trump is highly shrewd and has an uncanny ability to tap into what large numbers of people will respond to (even if what he taps into is the worst of people’s feelings), he also is pathologically compulsive in his inability to self-censor, particularly in his use of Twitter. He can’t resist attacking anyone who challenges him in anyway, no matter how trivial the issue. He is going to say a lot more about Jews and others that are not in his own political best interests, no matter how hard Kushner or anyone else to handle him. His lack of self-censorship is a small bit of silver lining under a very dark cloud.

      • charemor

As Trump’s son in law, Kushner would probably sell all of his family out just to rake in more money.

        • sfbob

Yeah, about the only way Kushner would successfully “take over the administration’s relations with Jews” is by disowning Trump and apologizing to all of us. By his actions Kushner has made himself a shandeh. (Yiddish for “disgrace.”)

      • TampaDink

I have no doubt that Hair Furor is & will be the very model of a loose cannon, in all matters.

        • MichaelJ

…a loose cannon that backfires, we can only hope.

          • TampaDink

            Hope & prey. LOL

  • Lars Littlefield

Gosh, Donald. It’s so hard to be you. 🙁
    (fake crocodile tears here)

  • John

    *Snort* He said “leak”.

  • Henry Auvil

A more appropriate analogy would have been, “Are we living in Putin’s Russia?”

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

… or Stalin’s might fit just as well.

      • JCF

Drumpf aspires to Putin who aspires to Stalin…

  • Max_1
  • AJ Drew

Cripes, it’s a full-time job trying to keep up with DT’s inane comments, which will soon have scarily potential impact upon the entire world.

    • Friday

It’s a total gish-gallop of corruption and fascism and of course, *distraction and pure vanity.*

Dylan Roof is unavailable for comment.

Douchebag Drumpf has only the best Nazis.

    • Barry William Teske

      Many Nazi’s are saying that!
      Good Nazi’s.
      Respectable Nazi’s.
The kind of Nazi one would take to a church…
      Get dressed up for!

  • danolgb

From Rawstory’s reporting of the KGPee..

    4. The Kremlin indirectly paid for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president, to visit Moscow in December 2015 as part of an effort to split Democratic voters to weaken Hillary Clinton whether or not she won the election.

  • Larry Lautzenheiser

The answer to the tweet is no, not for another 9 days.

  • ColdCountry

That’s far from the last shot, Donny, so man up, will ya? Gawd, he’s awful! And good on the A-D League! This sort of trivializing, or normalizing?, of the Holocaust has got to be called out every time. It’s as bad as saying slaves were better off as slaves.

  • sfbob

We are not Germany so we can’t become Nazi Germany. Germany didn’t become “Nazi Germany” until after Hitler became prime minister. Hitler took office and Germany added the “Nazi” prefix in about three months.

T—p is not yet president; once he’s inaugurated we’ll be well on our way to becoming Fascist America.
