CNN Hits Back At Trump’s “Fake News” Attack [VIDEO]

Via Mediaite:

During President-elect Donald Trump’s press conference today, Trump took aim at “fake news” regarding the release of an unverified dossier by Buzzfeed, calling them a “failing piece of garbage.” Following that, he ended up getting into an argument with a CNN reporter, who he also called out during the presser over their report on a two-page synopsis they claim was presented to Trump.

With Trump looking to call on other reporters, Jim Acosta yelled out, “Since you are attacking us, can you give us a question?” “Not you,” Trump said. “Your organization is terrible!” Acosta pressed on, “You are attacking our news organization, can you give us a chance to ask a question, sir?” Trump countered by telling him “don’t be rude.”

“I’m not going to give you a question,” Trump responded. “I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news!” As those on stage by Trump clapped, Acosta retorted, “Now, Mr. President-elect, that’s not appropriate!”

CNN just issued a statement:

CNN’s decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed’s decision to publish unsubstantiated memos. The Trump team knows this. They are using Buzzfeed’s decision to deflect from CNN’s reporting, which has been matched by the other major news organizations. We are fully confident in our reporting. It represents the core of what the First Amendment protects, informing the people of the inner workings of their government; in this case, briefing materials prepared for President Obama and President-elect Trump last week. We made it clear that we were not publishing any of the details of the 35-page document because we have not corroborated the report’s allegations. Given that members of the Trump transition team have so vocally criticized our reporting, we encourage them to identify, specifically, what they believe to be inaccurate.

  • AW

Here is the problem I have. CNN covers the news some of the time, most of the time it’s just talking heads yelling and one another and that is not news… but nor is it fake. Granted they pay the talking heads to not agree with one another but still. I do want news and I want facts and I want them presented without spin, but that’s a channel that would shut down right away.

    • Michael White

Doesn’t your definition cover all of cable news? Or all of the MSM?

      • AW

Pretty much all… I have to really search for news. And when news is always breaking and they use that graphic I hardly call it breaking. I’m just so fed up with MSM! They can all get pissed on by russian hookers.

      • AW

The other comment is my rant, really I want verifiable news to be reported. I think it should be mandated that news be actual news and delivered as fact.

    • Judas Peckerwood

Yup, CNN squandered its credibility long ago. Wolf fucking Blitzer, for fuck’s sake.

    • Tiger Quinn

Look, they’re doing the right thing now. Advocating them being shut down makes you just like HIM.

      • AW

Are you implying that I’m advocating shutting down CNN? Because I most certainly am not. What I’m saying is that during this long election cycle CNN and their ilk were not reporting news as news. They reached for the lowest hanging fruit every god-damn day all in the effort for not the truth or facts but for ratings and clicks. I’m advocating for the end of that.

  • Michael R

We should verify our news before we get all excited about it , Trump won on lies and fake news so this should be his domain , it would be in their best interest to ISSUE fake news the press can get all worked up over , then make the press the enemy .

    Fun with fascism :

You use the media as a political propaganda machine to target a specific audience and to push your agenda on others. You make sure your media machine demonizes your opponents and takes your side on nearly every issue. Your media machine disregards facts in favor of flagrant rhetoric and misinformation. You use your propaganda machine to generate fear and hate towards others, especially those you disagree with.

    • Tiger Quinn

It came from British intelligence. What do you want.

      • Michael R

The British Intelligence to verify its information and sources .
As much as I’d like to believe it , we have not been presented with facts or evidence .
I’m looking for something to knock Trump out of the presidency , it has to connect directly , it may come out of this in time .

        • That_Looks_Delicious

RawStory is reporting that a BBC correpondent has confirmed that the ex-British intelligence officer is not the only source for the Trump Russia dossier and that there is more than one source and several tapes.

Quote: “It’s very, very difficult, of course, to talk to US intelligence people. They’re breaking the law if they talk to you. But I did ask somebody with connections in the CIA to pass a message to them, and I got a message back that there was allegedly more than one tape, not just video, but audio as well, on more than one date, in more than one place, in both Moscow and St. Petersburg.”

The BBC correspondant also claims that this was known before the election.

          • Michael R

For me watching him turn it around on the press during his conference
is something I was watching for , it’s a fascist tactic and we have to be careful . I do hope there’s enough there to destroy him .

          • Dazzer

Yes, I saw that report earlier on today. It was the lead item on the lunchtime (one o’clock) BBC news.

This is actually a sign that even though they won’t admit it publicly, MI6 (British overseas intelligence) believes the story is true – because the BBC will have run it past their contacts in homeland and overseas intelligence before giving the story prominence.

        • Tiger Quinn
          • Michael R

That really doesn’t add anything , and we are done here .

If Trump says Obama is not born in the US he has to prove it , he can’t say that someone somewhere said something , or multiple someones said multiple somethings , or that rumors have been floating around for months – he has to show that what he is saying is true using actual facts , and that’s what we have to do here .

      • Dazzer

It came from an ex-MI6 agent – not from British intelligence per se.

Bits of the report stand up to scrutiny and are likely to be true – but I certainly wouldn’t treat it as a ‘whole cloth’ of accuracy.

  • Natty Enquirer

    • Judas Peckerwood

Are you referring to America’s lapdog “journalists”? Don’t hold your breath.

      • JIM W

Granted they are pathetic, but perhaps this is what is needed to get the press do their jobs. One can only hope.

    • another_steve

      Exactly right, Todd.

This was my thought. They played a major role in getting him elected, but they refuse to own it. CNN is getting exactly what the almost 66,000,000 people who voted for Clinton knew would happen and they need to stop whining about it.

    • Clive Johnson

Remember Leslie Moonves, head of CBS from last year?

“It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS,” he said of the presidential race.

Moonves called the campaign for president a “circus” full of “bomb throwing,” and he hopes it continues.

“Most of the ads are not about issues. They’re sort of like the debates,” he said.

“Man, who would have expected the ride we’re all having right now? … The money’s rolling in and this is fun,” he said.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It’s a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going,” said Moonves.

“Donald’s place in this election is a good thing,” he said Monday at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco.

“There’s a lot of money in the marketplace,” the exec said of political advertising so far this presidential season.
      http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/leslie-moonves-donald-trump-may-871464

CNN and the others no doubt had their own corporate executive riffraff singing the same “We’re in the money!” tune during the election season.

from your lips to Edward R Murrow’s ears

    • GayOldLady

All of the Cable News stations gave trump a hand up because his absurdity was a ratings bonanza to them. Even MSNBC would play trumps stump speeches while ignoring Hillary’s stump speeches if they were happening at the same time. Sometimes they’d be showing trump rallies and they’d have a small box on the right hand side of the screen showing the Hillary rally, but rarely would they show her rallies. Not controversial enough I imagine. Still, CNN did take on trump last night by reporting that trump had been given the dossier information and that’s what we want them to do, but if we quit watching the cable news programs then they have no reason to stick their necks out. I agree that they spent to much time kissing trump’s ass, but if they’re willing to do investigative journalism and report on their findings, them I’m willing to watch.

      • DaveW

But they were only showing the carnival viewers wanted. I blame the dumb population that only wants to watch people screaming at each othe, being ridiculous or taking clothes off.

        If it didn’t drive ratings……

    • kaydenpat

      Yep. No tears from me.

  • james1200

Odds are now 50/50 that there will be executions of key media figures, and not necessarily by Trump’s people but by his storm troopers, who love his belligerence and are dying to commit violence in his name. We need to move past the “I can’t believe this is happening” stage, and figure out how to deal with him. (On an unrelated note, I seem to be stuck in an “I can’t believe this is happening” stage.)

    • Bared Bear

And they’ll blame somebody like Meryl Streep because she was being “inciteful” and “placing blame.”

        • Rebecca Gardner

Yup! I’ve read his work and I think he will be absolutely correct this time. By the way, with the election of Trump he sped up his timeline.

The election of Mr. Trump speeds up the decline; of course, what he does as a President remains to be seen.

Trump’s critical attitude to NATO also indicated the US would cease to be a superpower.

My husband and I are financially comfortable. We have great health insurance. We have no debts. We have little to be fearful of personally, on a day-to-day basis.

But I do, genuinely, fear for the collapse of our democracy.

          • DaveW

I agree. A nation with so many undereducated and intellectually lazy cannot be a democracy. For me it was the rise of reality tv that showed we had passed the tipping point

There is a spectrum of human intelligence. No surprise every society has their “slow folk”. But we have become a dumb nation. Horrible schools. Childish musicals now called “art”, celebrity obsession, but with what formerly would not qualify as celebrities, anti science etc

There is no going back. Don’t breed, it’s cruel to expose future people to this.

        • PickyPecker

          A-listers, I hope.

          • TrollopeReader

            i was thinking of JMG A-Listers !!

      • Xuuths

That will never happen while the GOP controls the House, so no use hoping.

        • canoebum

They have Pence. He’s one of their own, a Dominionist True Believer Conservative, a Charter Member of the Gingrich Cabal. When the heat gets to be too much, the House GOP will turn on Der Herr like he was on food stamps.

          • JCF

I can only hope the civil war (!) between the Dominionists and the Drumpfeteers doesn’t kill us all. There’s NO way Drumpf would leave w/o scorching the Earth, and he has the followers who would money-shot to do so…

    • Bared Bear

I really was hoping that the Dubya years were going to be the worst time in my life that I’d have to live through.

    • another_steve

      That’s the good news.

The bad news is that if for whatever reason Trump leaves or is removed from office, Pence becomes President.

  • GayOldLady

All CNN reported was that trump had been briefed on the Material in a Dossier which accused him of certain acts. Today, during his press conference, trump DID NOT deny that he had been briefed on the document, in fact he inadvertently verified it when he accused the Intelligence agencies of leaking classified info. Even though Buzzfeed got their hands on the dossier and released it to the public, CNN did not. CNN didn’t even begin to venture into the entire report which is 35 pages long. I read it earlier today and found it compelling and believable.

    Here’s the link to buzzfeed:
    https://www.buzzfeed.com/kenbensinger/these-reports-allege-trump-has-deep-ties-to-russia?utm_term=.qbR3Km0N1#.dg68ygpWE

    • safari

I still haven’t heard that Buzzfeeed’s release is verified as what was attached to the briefing.

      • GayOldLady

And you’re not likely to hear that because it was leaked information. But trump blamed the leak on the intelligence agencies during his press conference today, so apparently he KNEW they had it and the only way he could have known that was if they shared it with him.

      • AJ Drew

But here we are. I have no clue if the DT pee-gate allegations are true or not, but let us not forget Comey releasing similarly scurrilous claims about HRC which were about emails and, pbbt, who even remembers the alleged details now? Ah! But the bigger question is “Why?”

      • clay

I have, from other reporters (NPR) who claim to have seen the original and got confirmation from McCain that it was based on the rumors he fed to the FBI.

  • Nasty Girl Brianna

I’m sure Fox News is falling all over themselves right now about how “Presidential” Trump looked and how he totally shut down CNN. Because that’s not scary at all.

  • Michael McReavy
  • dcurlee

So ask me a question and I don’t want to answer it….you’re rude. Humm I see four years of this

    • Bared Bear

Can’t wait until he pulls this shit with other world leaders.

      • safari

Ivanka or Jared will be there to translate.

        • AJ Drew

worse than that… “interpret” as in “what he meant to say…”

      • Snarkaholic

And Kellyanne Conman on the news, criticizing foreign leaders who bombed Turnip’s hotels, for looking at his words/actions, instead of what’s in his ‘heart’.

        • AJ Drew

I hope *that* bs which she uttered follows her forever. It’s a tough choice amongst SO much bs out of her mouth, but the “in his heart” statement, for me, is the ultimate… so far. (Oh crap, I keep having to remind myself: he’s not even in office yet.)

  • Xuuths

tRUMP will never identify anything specific, because he’s a liar. He never makes specific requests for retractions, because he knows what is reported is accurate.

    • safari

He doesn’t make statements, he makes implications. Implications can be walked back by blaming someone for misinterpreting them. Statements cannot.

  • GayOldLady

And Trumps comment today during his press conference playing off the “golden shower” report by stating that he’s a “germaphobe”, doesn’t fit well with his lifelong description of himself as a “great lover”, or “grab them by the pussy”. Please, the man admitted that he’s a sexual predator and now he’s trying to walk away from this report, true or false, by claiming “germophobia”? The man’s bragged about his sexual exploits on Howard Stern for decades so apparently there are some germs he does not fear.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Trump: All those filthy, dirty stories you keep hearing about me?
None of them could be true – cause I’m a germaphobe.
(How convenient – – ya’ filthy pig.)

    • AJ Drew

There’s an old saying along the lines of: “those who talk about sex all the time are never having any…”

The whole “germophobia” thing kinda fits, though… grabbing genitalia when there is (one assumes) a layer of clothing over it, and perhaps paying women to urinate on a bed whilst he watches from afar… and walking in on Ms Universe dressing room to gawk… ?

    • MT YVR

What amuses me about that is urine is pretty freakin’ non-toxic. The major vector is what it comes out of and hits air. So unless his ho’s were having serious bladder infections or such…

  • Mordred LeFey

So this is life now. Without any knowledge of how it should have been handled, I *suppose* it was a bit rude of the reporter to ignore Trump picking the other journalist to speak, but to call his organization “terrible” and “fake news”? Are you kidding me? This is how our next president is going to behave? Kill me now.

    • canoebum

Rude to Trump? There cannot be any such thing.

  • Ninja0980

As others have said, I don’t feel sorry at all for CNN and other stations.
The same caution they say they need to show now they NEVER showed with Hillary.
Anything about her was pushed out as fact and any corrections made were done long after the damage was done.
You guys failed to do your jobs before the election, now you get to suffer the consequences.

  • AJ Drew

That presser… uff… I listened to the audio rather than watch the video because I find DT’s facial and hand tics too distracting. Just listening to it, though, DT’s condescension was obvious, and troubling. And the clapping from… staff, apparently… is beyond obnoxious.

    • another_steve

Freak show from hell. That’s what it was.

I stuffed my face with junk food throughout the thing.

The only way I could get through it.

      • AJ Drew

ooh, distract me from this shit-show and let me live vicariously… what junk food did you eat?

        • another_steve

          Leftover taco chips and salsa.

Disgusting at 11 a.m. — but I just had to.

          • AJ Drew

I was kinda hoping for Funyuns and Nacho “cheese” but ok. Thank you.

  • FlKeysKevin

It’s funny that I agree with Trump that CNN is “terrible,” but for a diametrically opposed reason.

    • sandollar_man

I must confess that I was watching that morning when we (the GWB admin) attacked the innocent people of Baghdad. I had been sucked in by CNN’s graphics and the propaganda machine. I recorded many hours. Those tapes are in a box in the corner of a bedroom closet. My “shame box”. I suspect I’ll harbor it for the rest of my life.
I haven’t watched CNN since. Nor have I watched Fox again. Both were major cheerleaders of that despicable act of vengeful “over-kill”.

  • Mike in Texas

I hope the press eventually realizes that Trump press conferences are a waste of time. They really shouldn’t worry about access to them. I’d love to see Trump throw a press conference and nobody came.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Fascism, laid bare; this should scare us all. Rational thought, critical thinking and the understanding of fact is now out the window where the Trump junta is concerned. Made all the more egregious by the slobbering idiots who lap up his every word like manna from heaven. If this were a movie, I can guess the title: JONESTOWN II: The Reckoning of Agent Orange.

  • John Whalen

Quick!! someone find CNN and the rest of their trolls a safe place…

  • justmeeeee

    Bo-Ring!

  • bambinoitaliano

Hey CNN, It’s a bit too late to act indignant. You’ve made millions indulging a con man for over a year and now you cry about reputation being ruined?

Trump is a pig. And a traitor. And a crybaby. And a conman. And a bully. And a fraud. And a bigot. And that’s just for starters.

We have four years of him so please, continue.

  • Halou

    Censorship of the press begins.

    • JCF

It started during the campaign, when Drumpf threw out Jorge Ramos.

  • boobert

Of course I’m sad that we may lose the freedom of the press, but CNN and every other news agency created this monster with TONS of coverage on every burp and fart from this creep!

  • Buford

CNN is no hero. It’ll be interesting to see how they decide to treat Trump going foward – will they really take this fight to Trump, or will they instead soften their approach to maintain access.

I’m pessimistically betting on the latter.

  • olandp

If CNN had any integrity left they would announce that they would no longer be sending a reporter to cover Don the Con, and would rely on press pool reports if he does anything relevant.

  • Richard B

The Trumpateers are trying to intimidate the press. CNN is about as tame a corporate news organization as it comes to soft ball questions. Though messy and imperfect, our freedom of the press helps keep our nation free and Trump is already repressing the press. It is clear Trump isn’t going to divest himself from his business interest as he promised. When he says, “believe me”, I don’t. When he says he doesn’t have business interest with the Russians, I don’t believe him. How involved was Donald Trump involved with the Russians, well we know Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. made the claim at a real estate conference in New York in 2008, stating “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets.” Donald Trump Jr. added, “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”
Apparently, Trump has been involved with the Russians for a long time and today he dodges any conversation about it or parses his words suspiciously .
When he peddles that the Russian hacking didn’t sully the election results when his surrogates were meeting with Russian agents during the election, I think that is treason.
I do believe it was the biggest most colossal mistake in the history of our country that Trump was empowered to be POTUS. We need to remember for all time the republicans put this man up to represent them and be their candidate.

    • wmforr

His latest statement indicates that he still believes “Conflict of interest” means he would spend time working on his businesses when he should be Oval-Officing. He has no concept of the meaning of conflict of interest.

  • DumbHairyApe

We need to see a list of all those who clapped during the press conference. I’ll bet they were all paid to do so, either by position or promotion.
A press conference should not be seen as entertainment or a way of lauding a performance.

  • Max_1

The ONLY appropriate response to Donny the clown’s, “Don’t be rude. You’re fake news…” should have been, “Mr. President elect, don’t be rude, indeed!”

  • sword

I always thought that Trump was trying to imitate his favorite dictators, Hitler and Mussolini…but it is now obvious that Putin is now his favorite.

  • DrJustino

Did anyone else notice the podium? “The Office of the President-Elect” has a big one-way/do not enter traffic symbol on it!? Is that supposed to be symbolic, like “don’t go there/don’t proceed/we’re going nowhere fast?!”

  • DuaneBidoux

What is one man’s piss might be one network’s gold.

  • unclemike

By Grabthar’s hammer, America, what the fuck have you unleashed??

    • JCF

Nearly 3 million more of us voted NOT to unleash. But Sorry.

      • unclemike

Right. And another 90 million who were eligible to vote never voted at all. What is wrong with us?

  • Brian in Valdosta

This is all going to get a lot worse, and then even more worse, and then worser still, until it is just the worsest of the worst, before it improves to just being bad.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

Can you translate that into Russian?

      • Brian in Valdosta

Da, da. Is like, you from Moscow to Siberia. Then deep deep into Siberia. Then you have to clean outhouse in Siberia. With tongue. Then you go to Afghanistan and do again.

  • kaydenpat

Poor CNN. They tried so hard to coddle Trump and look how he rewards them. Sad.

  • ColdCountry

    How presidential.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Trump needs a sanctuary news service

  • greenmanTN

What’s the matter CNN? Did all the unquestioning attention you gave to this stain on evolution turn around and bite you on the ass?

I would be really sympathetic if it weren’t for the fact that you were instrumental in bringing it about, so all I have to say is reap what you so fervently sowed.

Awwww, did-ums get your little feewings hurt, after failing to perform due diligence and continued to promote blatently fake bullshit as if it were equal or the same as the constant and continual assault on decency that the Trump campaign embodied? It’s a bit late to start getting cold feet and frankly I hope he guts you like the endangered species his sons delight in killing. It is no less than you deserve, so don’t come crying to me.

    Just desserts.
