CNN’s KFile Exposes Trump Hire And Fox Host Monica Crowley For Plagiarizing “Large Sections” Of Latest Book

CNN reports:

Conservative author and television personality Monica Crowley, whom Donald Trump has tapped for a top national security communications role, plagiarized large sections of her 2012 book, a CNN KFile review has found.

The review of Crowley’s June 2012 book, “What The (Bleep) Just Happened,” found upwards of 50 examples of plagiarism from numerous sources, including the copying with minor changes of news articles, other columnists, think tanks, and Wikipedia. The New York Times bestseller, published by the HarperCollins imprint Broadside Books, contains no notes or bibliography.

Crowley did not return a request for comment. Multiple requests for comment by phone and email over the past two days to HarperCollins went unreturned. Crowley, a syndicated radio host, columnist, and, until recently, a Fox News contributor, will serve as Trump’s senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council. Trump’s transition team is standing by Crowley.

The Trump team has issued a statement:

“Monica’s exceptional insight and thoughtful work on how to turn this country around is exactly why she will be serving in the Administration. HarperCollins—one of the largest and most respected publishers in the world—published her book which has become a national best-seller. Any attempt to discredit Monica is nothing more than a politically motivated attack that seeks to distract from the real issues facing this country.”

This is her. This proves she is a Republican. Theft is in their nature.

Remember when Joe Biden had his plagiarism issue and for a minor, not full on, had to leave a presidential election?

IOKiYAAR. Rachel Maddow has done 8 segments that I saw and remember on right wing theft. Copy and paste Rand Paul from Wikipedia for his speeches had 3 segments. There have been issues with so many more.

Even before they were in politics we have Scott Walker getting booted from college for cheating and war criminal Bush having cheating issues in school too.

      • Steverino

Both Walker and Bush were simply honing their skills for cheating in politics.

    • Jerry

And most of the “best-selling” “authors” are not…any right-wing piece of crap printed, their PAC’s immediately grab millions of copies, then in their money begs: “Donate X dollars and get a free copy of ___________’s latest book.” It’s why NYT and other best-sellers lists started un-skewing their lists…most of those copies never get distributed. (See: Coulter, Ann; O’Reilly, Bill; Hannity, Sean; etc.)

Is this how it’s going to be now. Every time one of the tiny fingered, cheeto-faced, ferret wearing shitgibbon’s appointees is called out he’s going young declare it’s a politically motivated attack?

Did she plagiarize or did she not? That is THE ONLY question. If she did, it is not a politically motivated attack. It is the truth.

  • TrollopeReader

  • Bj Lincoln

Isn’t it the publishers JOB to make sure shit like this doesn’t happen. Each book is to be original or have annotations? Shame on them for pushing this through for a buck.

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

Yes. Editors should look things up and find this kind of shit before publication. If something like this happens, it’s the publisher’s responsibility to pull the book and acknowledge it has happened.

      • LesbianTippingHabits

Not re tipping, but many publishing houses are getting sloppy.

    • Jack

Not quite sure how they would check every substantive part of the book.

As a first year law student, I was assigned to check some of the footnotes in an article submitted for publication. The footnotes were checked for formatting and the text was checked to make sure that the referenced material was not misrepresented.

      • kanehau

Earlier in my career I co-authored a number of technical books (including a best seller) and we had an editor assigned to us. The editor was RELENTLESS in checking and double checking… including sources, factualness, etc.

Not everything that is plagiarized is online. You don’t need to be a genius to know that.

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

  • Universities have software created to catch this kind of blatant plagiarism. Crowley would have failed the course if she’d turned this in as a term paper and probably been expelled. So why don’t publishers have any kind of process for detecting plagiarism?

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

      Probably political or commercial interests.

      • LesbianTippingHabits

Not re tipping, but publishers don’t want to know. More work.

  • thom

so? we live in a post-facts, post-ethics, post-norms Trump era. Voters don’t care.
my prediction is that this won’t hurt her career or the books success. if anything it will increase sales.

the anti-Trump facets in this country are establishment Democrats, Democratic reformists, liberal independents, conservative constitutionalists, old-school establishment Republicans. but we’re more worried about HOW to stop trump than actually doing it. again power is a funny thing. no one will be willing to oppose trump unless it boosts their prospects.

it’s going to be a long 4-8 years. im worried about the democratic norms that will be destroyed and how it will affect our country in the post-Trump future
