SHORT FILM: Kodak Promotes Gay Acceptance

JMG reader Rob tips us to this lovely three-minute clip from Kodak. From the YouTube description: “Director Terry Rayment’s 35mm film “Understanding” poignantly depicts the transformational power of love and happiness. Cinematographer Kate Arizmendi captured all of the emotions beautifully on KODAK VISION3 500T 5219.”

  • medaka

    Damn onion ninjas.

    • johncAtl

I don’t even have any onions. It must be coming from the restaurant next door.

      • TuuxKabin

        Prolly an onion PIE.

        • johncAtl

PIE – the true breakfast of champions.

          • TuuxKabin

PIE. Sigh. Truly. And thank you for the ‘has’ link. Enjoying it!

    • lattebud

Bigly onions…. In the Costco sized package

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Always good to flush those tear glands from time to time.

  • TuuxKabin

I am TuuXKabin and I, with a heart, Recommended this video. Thank you Joe! Thank you Kodak.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

      Good morning, dear.

      • TuuxKabin

Hello sweetheart. How’s things down Washington way, where they’re about to make the laws and break the laws? Friends arrive nest Thirstday for a few days. Always good company. Capital company from a Capital City.

        • Johnny Wyeknot

People here are depressed. I noticed that nobody is wearing those silly Santa hats this year. I haven’t seen a single one. Last year, they started right after Thanksgiving. Even I had one. Lots of for rent signs as the Obama staffers start to pack up and leave. Ugh.

          • TuuxKabin

Crap. That saddens me. You’re not in government? Or not President Obama’s staff? Very little silly here either. I didn’t know the 5th Avenue parade for agent orange has been cancelled. Not that I’d go. But makes me glad to know. Sigh. Sighing. Something I’m doing a lot of. Got an opera at the MET planned?

          • Johnny Wyeknot

No, I’m not with the Feds. Plenty of friends are though. Those at Justice really are depressed. No Met opera planned, but I am going to Venice in February for Tannhauser at Theatro Fenice. Whether I come back is another question.

          • TuuxKabin

I N V U. Venice in February. Less crowded no doubt. Until then, happy holidays. Hope to read your comments before your leave.

We’re just headin’ out to do the shopping for our visitors.

          • Johnny Wyeknot

Haha! I still have to log on to discus each time I come to the site, which prevents me from commenting so much!

          • TuuxKabin

Fookin’ disSux issues. I know. Don’t forget to click on the heart next to “Recommended”. Get that number higher! XOX

          • BobSF_94117

Venice in Feb. Dress warm! Get up early, early one clear day, way before the sun comes up, and walk. Follow the smell of baking bread. You’ll find a cafe open at that ridiculous hour, where all the local workers go before their day begins.

          • Gustav2

I don’t know why anyone who isn’t a Trump in the Tower thought the parade in NYC would be a good idea.

          • TuuxKabin

They’d come in from the outer boros, especially Staten Island and into the city thru the tunnels and over the bridges. NYC is a blue bubble, and so easily accessible for a red tide. I’m all for it ceding from the union. Have been since Ford’s administration. But, dream on, dream on.

          • Gustav2

There would have been street fights at the very least.

          • TuuxKabin

My thought exactly, and as much as I appreciate the spirit of a fellow bro’ flyin’ monkey here, to go and show resistance by turning your back on him, it’d be considered a confrontation by any of agent orange’s mouth breathing, knuckle dragging supporters. No. Ain’t nobody got time for that. So, yeah, it’s good it’s cancelled. If it is. Still haven’t heard.

    • SoCalGal20

Good mornng! I’m not working again until Tuesday so I will have time to email you! 🙂

      • TuuxKabin

Hi SoCalGal! Write when you can. I’m here. Enjoy that free time! We’re just going to munch our way thru the weekend. Starting with PIE.

        • SoCalGal20

PIE sounds like an excellent plan!!! We’ve got a big storm rolling into SoCal later tonight and into tomorrow. Cold, rainy, windy, snow in the mountains. Going to try to get some things done this today before the storm hits so I can just stay in for tomorrow. Will be having ophan’s Christmas with one of my coworkers (we started on the same day and she just moved from Baltimore).

You and your hubby have a lovely day!

          • TuuxKabin

Love those Orphan’s Christmases! The Best! And a SoCal winter storm for Christmas sounds like a good present as long as no harm’s done. Take care. Enjoy. Be safe and loved.

El HubCap sends bestie wishes! Me too.

          • SoCalGal20

My friend and I are probably just going to the movies, and maybe doing Jewish Christmas and finding a Chinese place that’s open to get dinner lol.

But, yes, a SoCal winter storm will be good as long as I don’t have to drive. The mountains will be so pretty. Fingers crossed, but so far this season we’re doing pretty well for rain so here’s hoping the drought eases up. More of the state is officially out of drought this week with many areas also improving.

    • djcoastermark

Recommended it too. Meeting up tonight with Johnatl and Tampadink for drinks and conversations. Looking forward to it. A great way to spend Festivus !

  • Randy Ellicott

well that just… oh crap the feelings….

  • Bernie Keefe

    This^ Sniff.

  • j.martindale

I guess Kodak moments like these can happen. I am afraid they usually don’t.

  • JellyDonut

those alt-right organizations will just shit themselves

    • David Walker

A girl can hope. Ms. Soundguy posted a comment and is now preparing to be well-toasted by Sunday.

      • TuuxKabin

This girl’s hoping. Heart and soul kinda hope.

    • bambinoitaliano

They do that daily anyway, it’s their regimen for life.

    • Todd20036

That’s how Nugent got out of Vietnam

    • Gigi

Please call them what they are: white supremacists.

      • Todd20036

        I call them fascists. Nazis.
        Trumpzis??

      • Alt-Reich?

        • Gigi

          Closer.

  • JellyDonut

Damn you Kodak!!! That one got to me!!!

    • TuuxKabin

Nice thing about a Kodak moment. They last a moment. This one’s already copied and sent for others to have a ‘moment.’

      • Johnny Wyeknot

        Trumpanzees will have a movement.

  • TJay229

    In other news.

Gay NYC Councilman Cory Johnson, takes money for personal use, can’t pay his rent but he CAN have a bogus protest in Chelsea in support of “fake hate crime”.

Good. Put his ass on the street.

    https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20161222/chelsea/corey-johnson-investigators-volunteer-financial-support

    • Gigi

According to the article Johnson had trouble paying his rent in 2013 when he was running for office. Johnson’s rent and other campaign expenses, as well as a the co-pay for a staffer’s colonoscopy, was allegedly paid for by a campaign volunteer – “who DNAinfo is not naming.” And?

      • TJay229

Nothing to be curious about. I derive the same joy out of seeing this fakeass liberal politician have his troubles aired out in the press as i do when I read about Aaron Shocks troubles in the press, especially when THIS particular man, lead a “fake hate crime” protest on the lies and “racial overtones” just on the word of one “mouthy” white queen. The question you should be asking is, Why hasn’t the Gay Media reported on this?

Now you are free to derive all the information you use in life from one source if you want to. I will be different. And one more thing… Are you mad that it’s being told.. Cause this is JUST the same thing Aaron Shock is in trouble for, mishandling campaign funds for personal use.

        • Gigi

So you’re up in arms about a “fake hate crime” protest that allegedly occurred “on the word of one ‘mouthy’ white queen,” but you’re A-OK with linking to an unsubstantiated hit piece on an out politician by a right-leaning publication. Got it.

          • TJay229

            Not “up in arms”
            The White Queens got beat
The Black man was unjustly tried
And now the Gay Councilman who helped perpetuate a lie, now his dirty laundry is being aired.

Again, if you think he is immune to scrutiny due to him being gay or HIV+ then, THINK AGAIN. I will gladly watch this story unfold… If that bothers you… Hold on let me get another mug.

            https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b86acfd11500e61b0d191af3bd38a3f59a519c33dfd937772a178a2f93c44a4b.jpg

          • Tiger Quinn

Blocked. Seriously, just fuck off with all of that. You want to make this a race issue? Fine. Don’t expect us to come helping. Again. When you need it. Again.

          • TJay229

And yet.. YOU, wrote me.. 😂😂😂😂😂

          • Gigi

A black man was accused of a crime based on an substantiated claim. I agree, that’s very bad. If you also agree then how is it that you’re okay with accusing Johnson of a crime based on an unsubstantiated claim?

          • TJay229

You misspelled “A black man was accused of a crime based on a LIE…” and the White gay community wanting to believe the words of one of their own over what actually happened.

And Johnson, ran out and labeled this “Black man” a “Thug” (which is the new way of calling a black man a N*gg**.) based on the lies a “mouthy” white queen told. So, yeah… Let’s let the The Campaign Finance Board investigate his books, and see what is what, maybe if these are lies, we’ll see.

Did you get “up in arms” over Aaron Shock?

        • Tiger Quinn

Fun. I derive joy from blocking bitchy pedants, so this has been a win for both of us.

  • bambinoitaliano

Hot damn daddy! And then I cry. Really weird feeling to be turn on and be touch at the same time.

    • TuuxKabin

      Daddy’s do that.

    • edrex

      It gets easier with practice.

  • ericpayne

Oh, crap. Just when I thought I was going to make it through a holiday season completely stoic and Vulcanesque in keeping my emotions in check, Kodak has to go and ruin it for me. In my world, the macho father would have found a way to stand, pick up his wheelchair, and use it as a club against his son… but those are just my somewhat unresolved Daddy issues, I guess…

  • Jim in TO

    Beautiful, get out the hanky

  • Ninja0980

I hate onions, always make my eyes water.

  • Hryflex

I’m glad I’m the only one at work today. Need a tissue.

  • David Walker

I’ll take a wild guess here, but I suspect many of us here have gone through decades of changing lyrics to make them mean something to us. For quite some time I watched these Kodak Moments, sometimes getting them, almost always having to do some quick translating. Maybe we’ve been in other Kodak Moments, but I’ve never been so moved by a commercial. Thank you, Rob. Thank you, Joe. Thank you, Kodak. If I may, I’d like to add a little something. You’d never guess it, but I’ve long enjoyed watching chorus guys.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng092QDhM4o

    • TuuxKabin

Thanks David! Who the hell has more fun than us? And thank you for including Rob. I failed to mention my appreciation to Rob.

Rob. If you’re still there. Thank you!

    • Acronym Jim

That was awesome! Thanks for sharing, David.

    • bzrd

Oh Goddesses, did I need that ! Thanks, David

    • ColdCountry

That was fabulous! Thank you for making my day!

    • gaymex1

Thank you David. I really needed that. This kind of spirit cannot be squashed. Between this and the Kodak video, my spirits have been lifted and a glimmer of hope renewed.

      • David Walker

Believe me, you are most welcome. I’ve lurking for a few days and just reading the articles because I cannot deal. But Joe posted a couple of fun things today and I thought I’d share.

    • KCMC

      Prancers.

  • Do Something Nice

I’m looking to buy a new camera. I probably won’t choose a Kodak, but now I will at least check out their specs.

    Beautiful film.

    • SoCalGal20

I don’t know about the current Kodak cameras but I had a Kodak point-and-shoot digital camera several years ago (it was a 4MP) and it took gorgeous pics (I say as somebody who is not a photographer by any stretch). Very easy to use, and it had a 10x optical zoom. I took that camera on a trip to Italy and was not disappointed.

  • G Thomas

Is it just me, or is this really nice…for 1995. I can’t help but feel that this is a little late to the party.

    • Gigi

Yet someone below said, “I guess Kodak moments like these can happen. I am afraid they usually don’t.” Interesting.

    • FatNance

Well said, G Thomas, well said!!

    • Brian Keith

Late, but welcomed! How many others are not taking this step.

  • TuuxKabin

Only 3 ‘Recommendations’? Wish I could ‘stuff the ballot’.

    • SoCalGal20

      4! 😉

      • TuuxKabin

        Wadda pal! XOXOX

  • MBear

    Kodak is still in business?

    • Tempus Fuggit

      …was my first reaction, too.

  • Acronym Jim

One Miffed Mom is going to be soooo pissed she’ll forget the names in her sockpuppet platoon.

Christmas came a little early this year.

  • TxSE1

I usually have no truck for the mawkish. But I have to admit that this video sent a little tear down my cheek. Two thumbs up.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Saw this yesterday, it was so sweet.

  • IamM
  • BobSF_94117

Kodak must have developed a time machine to get 2016 Dad to travel back to 1963.

    Sigh, the memories. Ouch…

  • Tiger Quinn

Every day I come here I meet some new and exciting poster who is a complete asshole. It was BobSf and his joy of calling people pansies. Today it’s Jay, who decided to make our gay issues about his skin color.

I am here to tell that we had self loathing cases back in the day, and they didn’t stop us then, either.

    • TJay229

Uh… When referring to me, Type my name correctly please. It’s TJay229 😂😂😂😂😂

  • Professor Barnhardt

This is wonderful. An actual film film. Bonus: a 35mm SLR at 2:00.
Thank you so much. This has been a crappy year.

  • Bill_Perdue

We’re still standing and fighting and often winning the war against bigotry.

  • Schlukitz

Wow. Gay folks buy cameras and take pictures too…just like normal people!

    Who knew? 😉

  • Lazycrockett

    Gay Son Heals Handicapped Father!!

  • Thank you Kodak, brought a tear to my gay eye.
