Kylie Minogue’s Campiest Xmas Show Ever [VIDEOS]

Hello Magazine reports:

Kylie Minogue was brought to tears on stage at the Royal Albert Hall by the strength of her audience’s reaction as she brought Christmas to London’s iconic auditorium with the help of a few of her famous friends. The Australian performer delighted fans with a stunningly theatrical two-hour performance which included lavish stage costumes, a full orchestra, a band, a choir and flurry of real snow.

Performing beneath an enormous disco ball, the 48-year-old singer wowed the crowd with a mixture of Christmas classics, recent releases and a fun journey through her much-loved back catalogue. At one point Kylie, dressed in a rainbow-striped gay pride dress, was joined by famed mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins for a stunning rendition of Your Disco Needs You. Clearly in awe of her co-performer, the former Neighbours star grinned from ear to ear as she hugged her pal post-performance and gushed over her outfit (“didn’t she look cute?”).

There might not be another performer who would be able to pull off such an extravagantly camp and delightedly cheesy performance complete with dancing yetis, glitter-painted male dancers and walking, dancing Christmas baubles. But you wouldn’t want anybody else to do it. And there’s no doubt that Kylie’s legion of fans will be back next year to drink the Christmas cheer right in for the third time.

Hmm. I dunno. I think she’s got some pretty big shoes to fill in the campy category.

Because when I think “All American” that piss-boy is at the top of the list… not.

      • clay

        “All-American football”
        (and I don’t mean player)

  • olandp

Chainette fringe is just not like it used to be. That dress should have been alive.

I think it used to be made with rayon, but now it’s polyester and stiff.

  • Hryflex

Was her bf Joshua there…and shirtless?

    • shrumpi

He was there… but not shirtless, unfortunately. He dressed up as a big snowman. I went with hubby, and it was the best thing we could have done to get us out of our post-election funk. She is a little angel…

      • TheThruster

I’m rarely jealous, but I so wish I could have been there. That looked like so much fuuuun πŸ™‚

    • Jeffrey

He wouldn’t have made it out of there alive!

  • RYalman

    Awesome!!

  • barrixines as aladdin, nightly

It’s probably a gay-card revokable offence to say it but the appeal of Kylie has always eluded me.

    • Butch

If you offered me $1,000 to hum a little bit of one of her songs I’d have to pass on the bet because I couldn’t, but this still looks like a great show.

      • barrixines as aladdin, nightly

Yes no snark intended really. But I’d file her alongside the Eurovision Song Contest as another of the supposed cornerstones of British gay culture we’re all meant to love that just does nothing for me.

        • William

Don’t worry about it. I couldn’t decorate my way out of a wet paper bag.

          • pj

you miss a day during orientation?

        • clay

for me, it’s a rhythm thing, and most pop is boring. But I still appreciated what camaraderie and joy do for others– “let the children dance.”

        • perversatile

Jamala ESC 2016 winner. She is remarkably and un-apologetically odd. I kinda like her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SbsWNBSTk4

I think, for many of us, Kylie’s bubbly music style came along during that dark time of the late ’80s when we really needed it. The love affair started with “I Should Be So Lucky” and “The Locomotion”. I was DJing in the clubs back then and saw the dance floor magically light up whenever I mixed in any of her songs. Each 12″ vinyl release was like a shot of gay boy heaven.

    • TimCA

      HERETIC!!

      πŸ˜‰

    • Danieruw

I get it. I’ve never understood the appeal of Mariah Carey but lots of other gay guys seem to love her. I have everything Kylie has recorded and I flew to England to see her in concert. A new album (or four) by her would really help get through the next four years!

  • CanuckDon

That clip of “Your Disco Needs You” contains every bit of the vibrancy of life that keeps me going. Smiles and tears all the way through it….an immense human feeling that those on the right will never ever experience.

    • KCMC

      was just told by coworker,
“I’m gonna need to see you not grinning so big at your screen.”
Dancer boys shiny ball helmets, wow

  • Jeffrey

    Oh Kylie knows her audience

  • Jeffrey

If you look closely and pay attention there are some subtle nods to the gay community in her show.

    • David Walker

      Let me get my glasses.

      It’s almost imperceptible.

    • JCF

      LOL

  • I just love her. I wasn’t able to see her tour when it came through Atlanta a few years back and there’s been a hole in my soul ever since. I hope she tours the US again someday. My Disco needs her.

    • Danieruw

I think you mean the Aphrodite tour in 2011(?). I saw that in Dallas. It was so much fun! She was amazing and the audience was almost entirely gay men. When I saw her in England for the Kiss Me Once tour a couple of years ago, it was a much more eclectic crowd, mirroring her much bigger and lengthy following there.

  • pj

    lights, glitter, disco….merry christmas

  • David Walker

That was a most wonderful respite. As Jonathan notes in “Pride”: “God, I miss disco!”

    • perversatile

I bet disco misses you too.😊

      • David Walker

One can wish. I really do miss it, though. Maybe I can start one up in the old folks’ home. “Get down, baby!” “OK, but I’ll need help getting back up.”

        • Richard, another Canuck

          David, your disco needs you!

          • David Walker

OK. Wait a minute. Hey! Who stole my poppers?

  • Doug

    GODDESS!

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

We’ve done the Royal Albert Hall for the proms, but this would have been a show to see. So…Much…FUN!!!!

  • Bj Lincoln

I don’t have a clue who she or any of the other stars were but she sure puts on one hell of a show! I had a blast watching all the videos! I do think “Celebrate” in the first one was awesome! I also loved the rainbow flags made from boas. Very glad they included the pink and different blue for Trans folks.
ps The wife knows who she is and promised to play some things I might know. I’m not the music person in the family.

    • TimCA

I think Kylie may be more emblamatic of the gay guy – diva kinda thing we gay men do. All the lesbians in my life are either indifferent to Kylie or at the very least more restrained in their appreciation. πŸ™‚

    • JCF

This is really the only thing I knew about her before I started hanging out here [Oh, and her turn in the Dr Who Christmas Special! The one w/ the Titanic (!) in space]

Can we all just live in Kylie-World for the next 4 years?
