Kellyanne Conway On Trump’s Keeping The Apprentice Producer Role: So What, Obama Plays Golf [VIDEO]

Talking Points Memo reports:

Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, on Friday morning defended the President-elect’s decision to stay on as an executive producer of NBC’s “The Apprentice,” comparing the move to President Obama’s time playing golf.

“He’s a very transparent guy. Everyone can see what he’s doing and the fact is that he is conferring with all types of experts to tell him what he is allowed to do and not to do as president of the United States. And if this is one of the approved activities, then he will perhaps consider staying on,” Conway said on CNN’s “New Day” when first asked why Trump won’t completely leave his reality television show.

Co-host Alisyn Camerota noted to Conway that any time Trump spends working for “The Apprentice” is time away from his presidential duties. “Well, okay, but were we so concerned about the hours and hours and hours spent on the golf course of the current president?” Conway asked in response. “I mean, the presidents have a right to do things in their spare time or their leisure time. Nobody objects to that.”

Obama’s golf playing has been the subject of ridicule and outrage on right wing sites for the last eight years.

Nothing outrages the right as much as a black man with a good golf swing.

    • zhera

And taking holidays when he should be out in the field picking cotton. They just cannot see him as a human being.

I think I read that Bush Jr. had way more holidays and did way more golfing than Obama. Somehow that’s a completely different thing!

      • Silver Badger

Thinking is hard work for Republicans.

        • David Walker

And checking facts is even harder. Besides, that’s not why god gave us computers.

    • JCF

Yeah, he should count himself lucky if he’s permitted to lug the clubs around the course!

  • Treant

So, wait. That means that NBC will be giving him a paycheck, yes?

That’s a clear conflict of interest. The golf ball never gave Obama a paycheck.

Electoral College? Hello? ello? llo? lo? o?

    • now now…there you go making all sensy and stuff…

      • Treant

Eye no, rite? Not only does it invoke the Emoluments clause, it’s indicating that he simply doesn’t take the job seriously enough to do it full time.

It also says he needs the money NBC is throwing at him, which is indicative of quite a lot, actually.

        • scorpiomike

And, if he needs the NBC money and is willing to look compromised to take it, what about the foreign governments he will be working with? I wish the news personalities would stop asking her dumb questions to defend Trump. They should spend that time explaining why this is wrong.

          • Treant

This may be a case of the news media assuming that the reason this is wrong is obvious.

But you’re right. This election proved that Americans are fucking stupid idiots with a Dunning-Kruger Effect the size of the Pacific.

          • LeftyNYC

Thanks for making me research the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Fascinating– it explains so much.

And I’m pretty sure Obama doesn’t own his own golf courses, so even if Donny goes golfing (which you know he will) he will still prosper from his golfing buddies joining him at the club.

      • OdieDenCO

he’ll only charge them 2x the normal fees, cause that’s pResidential.

    • tristram

I thought executive producers got paid for doing nothing because they were involved in starting a show. Trump has zillions of real, consequential, dangerous conflicts – screaming about this just makes people look petty. And it draws attention away from the real problems. Trump has been playing his opponents from the beginning. He’s a master at it – but progressive media types keep falling for it.

      • Treant
        • tristram

LOL – same sort of reasoned response I got a year ago when I said Hillary was in for a desperate fight to win the presidency. Some people would rather snark than think (though fortunately JMG has folks who do both well). And, btw, Celebrity Apprentice involves no benefits to DT from foreign officials – so no ’emoluments clause’ issue. Oh, I forgot, I’m blocked

      • Todd20036

        This isn’t petty.

      • ColdCountry

I see your point, but I don’t think this is petty. It’s all part of the bigger, murkier swamp. And you could be right again in that Trump is doing this to distract from the bigger conflicts.

        • tristram

          sorry – answering wrong person

      • Bob Lees

You’re a fucking idiot. NBC has a news division, Trump now works for NBC and I’m sure he won’t be trying to tie any of this shit into favorable news coverage.

        • Todd20036

You really are naïve if you think that.

          • Bob Lees

Really I’m naive? I’m sure Trump would never use his position of power to directly influence members of the media. Maybe I need a sarcasm tag following that sentence?

Trumps entire life and success is fabricated on manipulation of the media. The only reason he’d consider an EP position on a show as stupid as Celebrity Apprentice is so that he can continue that same manipulation. The fact that NBC is considering this at all makes them as complicit as he is in the propaganda campaign that results from it.

        • tristram

It’s Trump’s show. This is not about whether NBC carries the show – that was already contracted. This is about whether Trump’s name is on the credits that roll at the beginning of each episode. It might impress some of his fans, but his influence with the network is what it is, regardless of whether he’s listed as ‘Executive Producer.’ And Trump is going to pocket zillions of dollars with all the deals where he has a real conflict – but we’re leading people to believe the problem is a reality show.

          • Bob Lees

You’re right, the overall impact to his bottom line by this is probably going to be minimal, especially concerning his massive interests in other areas that are bound to conflict.

The biggest problem with this, that is different, is that he’s going to be the President (gag) and any paid or official relationship with what amounts to a journalistic, no matter how minor, organization implies influence. If there is any negative story not reported by NBC or any positive story over-reported there should be push back from other journalists. I don’t really expect it based on the ratings driven culture now but it should be there.

If the news department of NBC isn’t outraged by this deal they should be. Nothing they report going forward can escape the taint.

“That means that NBC will be giving him a paycheck, yes?”

But golf is a one-time thing. You play a round of golf or two, and that’s it – game’s over, now go do President-y stuff.

But producing a show is all the time. It’s meant to be one of or *the* biggest things someone is doing at the time. Dividing attention between presidential duties and running a god-damn TV show is ridiculous.

  • Mike C

This golf thing enrages me. The “vacation” thing enrages me. The “spare time” thing pisses me off. The president is never “OFF”. The president doens’t have “spare time”. Obama is on the job on the golf course. He’s on the job when he’s in Hawaii with his family. He certainly hasn’t taken another part-time job while trying to run the country, which is what this would be. Goddamn it….Orange is in for one hell of a shock when he gets to DC and see how much “free time” the POTUS has. It’s one of the reasons I think we’ll see him running for the exit before his term is up.

    • agreed! agreed! so fucking agreed!

    • Bob Conti

I suspect, if hasn’t already, he’ll be asking Sarah Palin for some pointers on how to exist an executive position.

    • FlKeysKevin

I agree. It pissed me off when I heard her say it. Obama has taken fewer vacation days than any recent President. She displayed the same childishness that Trump displays.

    • Silver Badger

May the mighty Thor smite the entire trump administration with his holy hammer! Thoughts and prayers don’t you know!

    • Oikos

He’ll take all the free time he wants and to hell with running the country. That is why he picked Pence. Dump is totally uninterested in anything but the trappings of the office.

      • Jerry

Yes…because W took off over 1/3 of his time as president. Obama, in contrast, rarely takes much vacation.

    • ColdCountry

Nah, he’ll have plenty of free time since he’ll be skipping all those security briefings.

  • MrSkippy

Because everyone knows golf is for white guys. Bruthas are supposed to play pickup basketball for relaxation.

Actually, Prez Obama does that too (play basketball), and he ridiculed for it: why does he always have to play the race card? Shoving it in our faces!

There is NO satisfying these fucks.

      • 2patricius2

Or to add an adjective: racist fucks.

      • Oikos

No, the lack of turnout on our side combined with those who voted for stein gave dump the White House. I also think the election was rigged………..for dump.
I read yesterday that the same amount of republicans voted in 2016 as in 2012 but our turnout was lower and combined with the 3rd party vote ensured dump’s win.

        • zhera

Yes, all that is known. Protest votes, rigged election. But if no-one had voted for tRump then he’d lost.

There is something seriously wrong with Kellyanne. She looks particularly wasted – as though she has a serious untreated eating disorder, or she has a wasting disease such as cancer or she is hooked on serious drugs. She reminds me of people I have known who are close to death.

    • Treant

True, but my father, 48 hours from dying of twenty things gone wrong over a period of decades, looked a heck of a lot better than that.

    • Close to Death indeed. She does meet regularly with the Cheeto-faced Shitgibbon…

    • ColdCountry

She sold her soul. The remaining husk in unattractive.

  • Mike in Texas

Pay no attention to the Queen of Trolls.

  • Bad Tom

    False equivalency is false, Kellyanne.
Playing golf is a respectable private recreation.
Producing a reality show is more like going to strip clubs, and ought to be beneath the President of the United States.

Yet the MSM just silently shifts in its chair and takes a drink of water until it’s dismissed for the day.

From an October 11 article on Politico’s website:

“Many have asked, who is to blame for Donald Trump?” Jimmy Kimmel said in his opening monologue at the Emmy Awards last month. “And I’ll tell you who. He’s sitting right there. That guy. Mark Burnett, the man who brought us Celebrity Apprentice. Thanks to Mark Burnett, we don’t have to watch reality shows because we’re living in one. If Donald Trump gets elected, and he builds that wall, the first person we’re throwing over is Mark Burnett.”
    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/10/donald-trump-mark-burnett-the-apprentice-2016-214349

Kimmel got that right big time. Year after year Burnett’s show presented a dishonest fraud of a nasty petty egomaniac on TV as if he were some sort astute judge of anything. And then after disclosing that he was appalled at Trump, he makes sure the show continues, continuing the media exposure of Trump even if he is not the host. And lately Burnett has been pitching ideas to Trump for inauguration celebrations.
I guess some people can never pass up an opportunity to make more money, even at the expense of others. Greed.

    • Chucktech

I disagree. It’s not some TV producer’s fault that Trump was kept on a TV show, it’s the deplorables who keep watching that TV show. TV is a business and Trump wouldn’t have been kept on TV if deplorables (whose money is still green) didn’t watch.

      • MichaelJ

I understand your point, and I certainly believe that the public who watched the show shares the blame. But I don’t accept the “it’s just a business” excuse for people doing whatever it takes to make a buck, including appealing to the worst of the public’s appetite for entertainment.
In any case, even if one forgives Burnett for producing Celebrity Apprentice in the first place, there is no excuse for letting the show continue at this point given that he is well aware of the damage all that airtime given to Trump has done. Even if Trump is no longer the host, the continuation of a show that put Trump’s ugliness – inside and out – in the homes of so many people, and the continuation of a paycheck for that show, serves to legitimize Trump. I don’t think it is too much to want business people to behave ethically even if it means not receiving all the money they can get.

      • SoCalGal20

Mark Burnett helped build “reality” tv. He’s not just the producer of “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Apprentice”. He’s also the producer of “Survivor” and now the President of MGM Television. He personally prevented film of Donald Trump saying the n-word and who knows what else, from being leaked during the campaign, threatening to fine his employees if they leaked any film.

And now he’s helping plan Trump’s inauguration.

Of course, Obama getting a game of golf or ever taking a break was considered an outrage by the Right, ignoring that Dubya did it ten times as much and took the most time of of any President in history, Obama among the least.

Also, playing golf isn’t giving a big finger to the American people, producing trash reality TV while President surely is.

    • The Return of Traxley

Trumpanzees insist there’s a law against golfing while black.

  • Ninja0980

I don’t recall any of his golfing outings being connected to a network that is giving him a paycheck at the same time they’re covering him.

    • canoebum

Yeah, for 5 figures an outing, even I’d be willing to take up golf.

  • Bob Lees

The whining and complaining everytime Obama picked up a golf club was fucking deafening yet I don’t recall any golf club having a news division that could alter their coverage of him so he’d keep hitting long balls.

  • JellyDonut

    no

Truth and reality no longer matter. All that matters are Trump’s followers. I gotta wonder if they’ll ever come out of the Trump-Trance.

You would think that eventually all the stupid would run out, but the supply seems inexhaustible…

      • Gianni

Yeah, like a runny nose. It’s inexhaustible because it continuously makes its own supply.

  • Moebym, Resistance Pilot

No big surprise there. Democratic presidents are expected (by everyone, right, left, and center) to work 24/7 until they break down and go insane, but Republicans can spend half the time relaxing at the golf course or ranch, and it’s no biggie.

    IOKIYAR.

  • Mark

I am so tired of seeing this rat faced women. Get a make over honey you should have the money now.

  • charemor

Kellyanne, I am very tired of you. Please shut up and go away.

  • geoffalnutt

I’ve figured it out!! She was named after a wig…the “Kellyanne”. It was that wig so often featured on the last page of local “weekend” magazine sections of local papers. It was a big seller at World-A-Wigs on Diamond St. That was 1977. Seems like yersterday.

    • Gianni

      😀 The secret’s out now!

  • TheJudgement

    The continuing dumbing down ……

  • Gerry Fisher

I really, REALLY need a Kellyanne break. I’m beginning to despise her more than Chitolini. She has a brain, and she uses her powers for evil, for enabling him.

    • The Return of Traxley

I pray daily to FSM to have a piano fall on her from 20 stories above.

He pays well. She’s likely somewhat whorish for money.

Remember when a Presidential Daily Briefing titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” could be ignored by W and we were stunned by learning about it? This asshat has never had the slightest clue how to do this job, and he never will.

  • Mark_in_MN

Trump is so transparent that he makes everyone sign non-disclosure agreements. Yep, that is really, really transparent.

And why does anyone care that President Obama plays golf? I don’t get it at all. Lots of people play golf, probably including many who pile on this odd, odd, odd complaint.

    • TrollopeReader

it’s how Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neill solved a lot of problems … odd, that!

  • Charlie

    Let’s see…golf and producer of a television show…why yes, yes I can see the similarities…and I too am a bottle haired bimbo…

  • Bill T.

Yeah OK, President Obama plays golf. But when he plays, the golf course doesn’t put him on the payroll, and he doesn’t own a piece of the golf course.

  • JCF
  • glass

A TV show while you are president? That really cheapens the office. Then again trump is nothing but white trash. 100% white trash, and will never be anything more!
