Watching TV from the late 50s / early 60s (mostly game shows) made me really curious about the boob-shelf style. It’s strange. It’s not just volume. It’s like someone wants to put a level across the top to make sure you can carry soup bowls on them.

      • Dagoril

Look at ’em there, just poking up like the Hollywood Hills!

“I’ve got hampers of laundry and my diet pill is wearing off!” My mother used to take those. I wonder if that was a Baltmore thing or if they had them all over…

I got the soundtrack from amazon yesterday. It’s quite good. I wish they hadn’t left out “In the Big Doll House,” but I’m never satisfied…

        • chrisinphx

I remember my mother eating Pink Hearts back when

Hubby and I will be watching it. We have all the refreshments ready to settle in on a cold evening (20 degrees). Is it ok with everyone if we sing along?

  • Reality.Bites

Darren Criss is hosting some multimedia behind the scenes thing online as well as during breaks. Not quite sure how it works, but I had to beat SoCalGal with the info.

Darren Criss fucked my face in the audience at Hedwig. True story.

      • Sam_Handwich

        um uh

      • Reality.Bites

You’re not the only one. True story.

(For those who haven’t seen it, it happens to one lucky male audience member at every performance. We were safely in the balcony.

Darren’s only Hairspray performance on Glee:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4mbbBa8_vs

But the best Hairspray performance on Glee was Alex Newell backed by a 300-member trans choir.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgbTmiDS1dk

(They weren’t actually singing, that was professional back-up singers)

        • Reality.Bites

And for those of you who watched that and wondered, Hey, what’s Mike Chang up to these days…

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnl1B46kpdM

          • safari

I watched the first season of that series just to get to the kiss. I *love* his character. The story writing isn’t that great; the plots can be stronger; the movement of the story arch should really be slowed down. But Chang’s character is eccentric, smart, sexy, and sexual. I’d love to watch a series just based around his character.

          • Reality.Bites

I’m thinking perhaps they’re more prominent in season 2, given the trailer. There’s a new show runner for season 2.

And yeah, season one wasn’t great. But I’m contractually obligated to support all projects from Glee alumnae I don’t have to pay for.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQx7CLtJMJA

          • safari

…and it’s based on a book series… right? (Kind of watched it all in one binge because I fell in love with the character).

          • Reality.Bites

Yes it is – there was also an earlier movie version.

        • Mike__in_Houston

          Wow. That’s incredible…

        • JCF

Love JHud, but ^ this is THE performance of “I Know”.

      • JoeMyGod

I was in what’s known as the “car wash seat” because Hedwig always straddles the person in that seat wearing a glass bead skirt.

        • safari

          …what did he smell like?

          • Reality.Bites

            Talent!

          • Acronym Jim

            and Burning Man!

          • safari

No doubt. But what are the undertones?

      • Joe in PA

be still my … heart… yeah heart, that’s it. mmm mmm mmm.

  • JoeMyGod

Watch for John Waters as the flasher in the opening number. Would be SO good if he reprises that bit tonight.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLaM1d383eg

    • Mike__in_Houston

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing. Ricki Lake is one of the salespersons in Sean Hayes’ boutique for the larger woman…

    • Good Morning Baltimore- There’s the flasher who lives next door. There’s the bum, on his barroom stool. They wish me luck on my way to school…

    • safari

Now you’re making me want to set this to my morning alarm.

    • Reality.Bites

Such a great opening. But the movie is ruined beyond redemption the minute John Travolta appears.

That’s the reason I’m so much more excited about this than other TV musicals. It’s as if the got the original Mother Superior for the Sound of Music. (And you just KNOW she’d go full cuntface.)

      • EqualityForAll

No shit. John Revolting would ruin a good wet dream.

        • Strepsi

which is true but ironic, as young John Travolta caused many a wet dream…

          • EqualityForAll

You’re so right. Back in the 70s he was really sexy. But it’s been his bad facial augmentation and hair implants that have turned him into a grotesque caricature of himself. I much prefer a man or woman who ages gracefully, letting nature take its course. Also, his in-the-closet lifestyle and denial for the sake of denying that’s a huge turn-off for me.

    • Joe in PA

      I love Ball-more!

    • Joe in PA

That clip was worth it just for the cars!

    • tomfromthenews

By the way, whatever happened to the girl playing Tracy in the movie? I thought she nailed it.

  • Lumpy Gaga

I somehow got my hands on promo swag for the 1987 movie when it came out (all long one).

All I can remember is that it was a pink hairnet with tchotchkes inside, including a cassette of the soundtrack album.

    • sherman

I still have my scratch and sniff card from going to see Polyester first run.

    • fuzzybits

And the original soundtrack was great.

    • hdtex

OMG I played the soundtrack non-stop.

  • Aren’t you glad you were punished- and under psychiatric care? You could have been killed out there!

  • we’re still here

Kind of on topic : John Waters did an interesting run down of his top movies of 2016…. some I’d not heard of..

    • Michael R

Some of these look great , in the past he’s recommended movies that were shocking but almost boring / unwatchable .

      • we’re still here

Yeh, I want to watch just about all of them…

  • Dirk Prophet

I hope John Waters is turning in his grave still alive. Somethings shouldn’t be normalized because they aren’t.

  • JK3

Over/Under the number of words that we will be able to understand as Ariana Grande sings “Without Love”. 15.

Cruel insult aside, I’m pumped. I haven’t missed a single one of these live musicals (even that godawful Peter Pan).

  • JoeMyGod

First impressions can be tough and when I saw you I knew it, if your size wasn’t enough your last answer just blew it.

Not live here on the West Coast—I’ll comment when I can. Enjoy!

    • Lakeview Bob

I know It is at moments like this that I miss Chicago. I will try the live stream but then I have to watch it on the small screen.

    • Reality.Bites

      Humble brag from up North.

There’s such a concentration of media ownership in Canada – virtually all commercial TV outlets and cable networks are owned by one of three conglomerates – that the one thing they don’t give a crap about is which channel you watch something on. So out-of-market locals from across the country are available. If you lived on our West Coast, not only could you watch “live” events actually live, you could have an entire night of prime time programming ready to watch on your DVR after dinner with commercial skip.

Not much use for those of us in the east though, unless we’re attached to local news from LA, Seattle or elsewhere in Canada.

  • Michael R

Ouch , 3 hours is too much for me .

I’m surprised they didn’t do Rocky Horror live .

    • Reality.Bites

It had to have been considered. It’s traditionally a pretty low-budget stage show. Maybe they felt that by doing it live it would either be too flashy in comparison, or look too cheap for TV. But I’m really just talking out of my ass. I have no idea why. If we cared enough we could probably find out, but I’m not gonna bother and I grant you dispensation not to bother either. 😉

      Those brows.

      ZOMG!

  • Dot Beech

We should rally around this performance tonight. It comes at just the right time. If Tracy Turnblad can stand up to the hate in our society, we can, too. And we’re going to have a lot of it to oppose in the years ahead.

    You can’t stop today
As it comes speeding down the track
    Child, yesterday is hist’ry
    And it’s never coming back
‘Cause tomorrow is a brand new day
And it don’t know white from black

    ‘Cause you can’t stop
    The motion of the ocean
    Or the rain from above
They can try to stop this paradise
    We’re dreaming of
But you can’t stop the rhythm
Of two hearts in love to stay
    You can’t stop the beat!

Suck on that, Trump. Stick it up your ass, Ryan. You too, McConnell.

    • CanuckDon

Just thinking the same. How more fucking current could this be playing to the American mainstream!

  • DaddyRay

Has One Million Moms got the vapors yet?

  • JK3

I can’t look at Garrett Clayton (Link) without thinking about that Brent Corrigan movie.

Oh thats the woman from SCTV. playing Penny’s mom.

  • JK3

How is Ariana Grande the weakest link right now?

    • JCF

      Totes.

  • DaddyRay

I have to say the production quality is so much better than the Sound of Music production

    • Kevin Perez

The lighting is killing me though.

  • Lazycrockett

So far I’m kinda meh bout this.

  • JoeMyGod

Welp, that alleged live-stream I embedded is a dud. Sorry folks!

      OTA NBC is perfect here.

This NBC’s fourth annual live Broadway show.

    2015: The Wizard Of Oz.
    2014: Peter Pan
    2013: The Sound Of Music

    • JK3

      2015 was The Wiz.

      • JoeMyGod

        D’oh. That what I meant.

      • JoeMyGod

        Queen Latifah killed in it.

        • JK3

Yeah she did. It feels so long ago, but I remember that Trumpers were having a fit over the primarily black cast.

          • Lazycrockett

Trumpers dont understand much do they?

        • safari

Is there a place where I can stream it? I looked at one point, but couldn’t find a way pay or not for it.

          • JoeMyGod

I don’t know about streaming but the DVD was for sale almost immediately.

      • Kevin Perez

        Emerald City is Burning
        Still!

  • hdtex

Hairspray has a special place in my heart, In 1988 I was a very young visual manager at a large chain department store. For the movie release I dressed 20+ mannequins in 60’s style complete tricked out bouffants and flips in the Juniors department. It was awesome!

  • Kevin Perez

They need to light Tracy. They’re lighting everyone else but the star!

    • DanimalChgo

Or is she just missing her marks (standing in the wrong spot).

      • David Walker

A newcomer on TV performing for the first time in front of millions and millions of people? Nah. Light guy’s fault. Or maybe an artistic decision that went south.

  • JK3

Garrett Clayton has clearly never said no to doing some squats.

  • Henry Auvil

Sorry, but the only thing that would cheer me up at this point is James Franco knocking at my door and saying, “Henry, I am soooo horny.”

    • Did you see his “Leather Bar” movie? I think Mr Franco might be up for an occasional excursion to the other side of the fence.

      I’d pay to see that!

  • Treant

“Won’t go all the way, but I’ll go pretty far!”

This is why I do better on dates than Tracy Turnblad.

  • DaddyRay

Kristen Chenoweth is a national treasure

    • JK3

      I miss GCB soo much.

      • kelven

It was a downright crime that show only lasted one season. 🙁

    • JoeMyGod

She gave that number her own twist. Craw-abs!

  • Kevin Perez

I loved the Ready Whip commercial.

    • Dot Beech

Yes, Mr. Reddi-Wip was smokin’ hot.

      • JCF

        Reddi-to-Wip-It-Out?

  • JoeMyGod

    They’re even doing live commercials…..

    • Ray Taylor

Then all the caned ones ruin the mood.

    • Reality.Bites

      Not in Canada. 🙁

      • Ray Taylor

only the 1sr one was live.

        • Reality.Bites

          Still one more than us.

But our first ad in this break was from Visa and Starbucks, showing Santa wishing Starbucks customers Happy Holidays.

          So I’m happy.

    • safari

I like it. I *love* the idea of emphasizing the production is live even if it isn’t early TV-era commercial-live huzzawhat. Yes, it’s probably well planned out… but I like the energy and exposure.

  • boobert

I’m not watching, probably because it’s my opinion that the original movie was perfect.

    • DaddyRay

Having been a thespian in my youth I always support live theater – you never know when something like this inspires a new generation

    • FatNance

      The original TRULY is PERFECT!!

  • JK3

So the CIA hasn’t killed Rosie yet.

    • houstonray

      I’m sure it’s on his first 100 days agenda…

  • Treant

    Rosie!

Also, what the hell is in those cans? (Yes, probably vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, and water, but still!)

  • JK3

Why is Julianne the sibling that gets all the singing attention? Derek is singing her under the table.

    • DanimalChgo

      He’s fantastic!

    • JCF

      Which one is he? Corny?

  • safari

Oh look. Race fence. How appropriate for modern times.

  • Dazzer

Wretchedly, the thig seems to be geo-blocked. Oh well. I was looking forward to that. Life sucks sometimes.

  • DaddyRay

I chuckle every time I see that Sumo Wrestler figure skating commercial

    • Treant

      The baby bird…

  • Lazycrockett

Wells Fargo needs to slow their roll.

  • JK3

Don’t show me a Wicked promo unless you are going to give me a Wicked Live, NBC!

    • Reality.Bites

There’s a movie finally going ahead and ongoing productions on Broadway and in the West End, plus ongoing tours. So I don’t think they’d make it available for TV.

    • JCF

Yeah, what was that about? For touring productions?

  • JoeMyGod

What happened to Noreen and Doreen?

    • DaddyRay

      Cut for the Oreo commercial?

      • BearEyes

        the obligatory Oreo commercial?

      • Kevin Perez

        It’s black and white.

  • Ray Taylor

I had a suit like that only it was olive green!

    • With matching shoes?

      • Ray Taylor

        No.

    • DaddyRay

I had a dark blue suit with powder blue lapel and accents – polyester of course

      • Ray Taylor

I was in the Navy stationed in SDIEGO and went to the dances at the dance (I can’t remember the name) Club. We all had new suits, it was real.

  • safari

Okay. Complaint. Don’t care about the watchers that I’m not chatting with.

  • DaddyRay

    Love this Temptations commercial

  • JoeMyGod
  • Treant

And yet strangely, it’s Martin Short who radiates “Drag Queen of Elfland.”

  • Lazycrockett

Who is next to Rickki Lake?

    • DaddyRay

I have not seen her in years

      • Lazycrockett

I assuming it was the original broadway Tracy?

  • Kevin Perez

    OMG, A Studebaker Golden Hawk!!

  • Paula

My daughter is very upset at Harvey Feinstein as Edna Turnblad. She doesn’t like his voice. She is a theater geek in high school and is analyzing everything. Its gonna’ be a long night.

    • Reality.Bites

That’s like being upset at Julie Andrews in a TV revival of My Fair Lady.

  • DaddyRay

I remember those short for gym class – horrible

    • Ray Taylor

      They look fine on Link.

      • Treant

Sackcloth and ashes would look fine on Link.

  • DaddyRay

Is that the new iPhone 8s on their shoulder

    • Treant

      It’s the iRadio 3000g.

  • Treant

That’s “ass,” Inez. When you’re a discriminated-against black girl in Baltimore in the sixties, “ass” is OK.

  • Treant

Is it me or are they breaking for commercials more and more often?

    • Ray Taylor

They are goood commercials though. The Best.

    • JCF

All long (2 hour plus) shows do that.

  • Ninja0980

My husband and I are watching basketball instead.
    Cancel our gay cards now…

    • Treant

They have tight shorts and balls end up slapping against men, so we’ll give you a pass.

      • DaddyRay

Basketball shorts are anything but tight – it really is a shame

        • Ray Taylor

          Just remembering the 60s.

          • Ninja0980

Yup, not all changes are good.

        • Reality.Bites

          Anything but short, too.

    • djcoastermark

And please return the toaster. 😉

    • petewestcentral

lol — I was concerned about my card. The show bored me and I wandered off.

  • Treant

Bye, Bye Birdie? That’s a step down.

  • Lazycrockett

I think Garrett is sick. Like cold or flu.

    • Treant

He screamed too loudly during his pre-show fucking and he’s a bit growly.

      • You don’t think he possibly could be gay do you? (I am being sarcastic. I don’t see why I have to type this here but so many people are saying I have to put this in my comments now).

        • Treant

No way! He’s as straight as Rock Hudson!

          • At the very end of King Cobra. When he turned around and said “Let’s Fuck!” for the camera as superstar Brent Corrigan — with that smile and twinkle in his eye — it was perfect! Right after he pulled his shorts down and gave the audience a look at his butt (which actually was just OK). He did not seem that he had to “method act” the role lol.

  • Kevin Perez

Linc is not throwin’ away my shot, SHOT!

    • JCF

That will be the Live! musical for 2040.

  • djcoastermark

nobody throwing this sofa to the curb for being to comfortable. Hmm, my new motto!

  • Treant

It’s weird, but given the unmitigated disaster after disaster that November and–so far–December has offered us, this is great. Lighthearted, cheerful, and optimistic fits the bill.

I honesty didn’t realize just how much I needed this.

    • djcoastermark

That’s what I have been saying to hubs. It’s good to have some fun.

      • Treant

Or, why television tends to reflect the opposite of what’s happening. We can probably look forward to happy and cheerful sit-coms for the next four years, and the ebbing of reality television and dark dramas. Those are for the good times, and these are not good times.

  • DaddyRay

I keep it in my oven until it is good and hot

  • Treant

    FREE TRACY TURNBLAD!

  • JoeMyGod

Good LAWD Jennifer Hudson SLAYED that.

    • DaddyRay

Ms Hudson certainly has a powerful set of pipes

  • SoCalGal20

I’m not watching yet because I’m in L.A. but as I’ve mentioned previously on here, I’m a fan of Glee and Darren Criss. I know he’s hosting the backstsge stuff and Facebook Live. I was just going through his twitter mentions and it’s hilarious because everybody is like, “Why is he hosting? Why isn’t he Link? Why isn’t he Corny?” Also, lots of appreciation of his suit by the gays lol.

(He just finished the Broadway tour of Hedwig a week ago, which may be why he wasn’t cast and is just doing hosting duty)

  • Is Gareth Clayton in it? And does he look innocent?

    • JK3

Yes, Yes, and the only thing I notice about him is his perky ass.

  • Kevin Perez

I saw the camera on the dolly

    • safari

I hope she consented and enjoyed it.

    • DaddyRay

      Well Hello Dolly

  • safari

At my showing the “timeless to me” number went on to correct technical problems.

    • safari

      It served its purpose.

  • Ceebee

Would have loved to see Patti Labelle or Jennifer Holliday as Motor Mouth – JHud is good -but she is too young IMO – A. Grande is a big disappointment as Penny.

    • DaddyRay

I like Jennifer Hudson as Motor Mouth

    • JCF

When she sang about her size, I thought “Not really now, but previously!”

  • DaddyRay

This is one of my favorite songs for the show so I am a bit disappointed in this performance – I had higher expectation

    • DaddyRay

OK it got better – they redeemed themselves

    • JK3

I expected 3 solid performances and 1 weak link instead we got 3 weak links and 1 solid performance.

  • JK3

Ariana is the biggest miscast since Carrie Underwood.

    • DaddyRay

I thought she would be great in the part but apparently not

      • JK3

I wish they would have made the girl playing Amber Van Tussle play Penny.

      • Furface

She needed to start with more insecurities and a soupcon of ditz; then growing into the part by shedding the insecurities while keeping the ditz. Not any growth in the character.

    • ByronK

Why does she keep looking up like she’s expecting a bat attack?

      • JK3

Frankie is hovering over her with her lines.

  • The Return of Traxley

Thanks for the update but I am not going there until after this escape from reality is over

      • The Return of Traxley

        Sorry. … : (

  • Strepsi

Darren Criss can get it any time.

    • DaddyRay

      He is a cutie

      • Strepsi

cute as a button. a button you want to fuck.

        • DaddyRay

I would like to push his buttons

          • Ray Taylor

I don’t think he is gay. Unless he came out recently.

          • Strepsi

            irrelevant 😉

          • Reality.Bites

            Still straight, still with Mia.

Kevin McHale will be the next one out from that show.

  • kelven

Oh, oh, Kohls is on the “naughty list” YEAH!

  • djcoastermark

It’s good to see Ephriam Sykes , a local St Pete boy, hitting the big time.

  • Treant

That scene seemed a bit cobbled together somehow. The timing just wasn’t great.

  • Strepsi
    • Ray Taylor

      yep thats him. mmmm,

  • djcoastermark

Time to melt again, Go Jennifer!

    • Strepsi

      Damn, she SANG

      • djcoastermark

Killed it, nailed it, Just wow!

        • Strepsi

and I loved that she even SANG into Ariana Grande’s face lol

  • Kevin Perez

    .. and you’re gonna .. LOVE .. MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY

  • djcoastermark

Uh oh , Coke is now in trouble…..

    • JCF

That commercial is ~ a year old. A more innocent time, Le Sigh…

  • That_Looks_Delicious

O/T – Trump is going to appoint Linda McMahon of the WWE (Vince McMahon’s wife) to head the Small Business Administration. You just couldn’t make this stuff up if you wanted to. It was a nice country while it lasted.

Jennifer Hudson is a miracle. Thanks NBC for making this happen — it’s been a shitty year for me and I’m happier than ever.

    • eyechart

After losing my job yesterday (I wasn’t the only one, my entire department was told it was being moved to another state, and others within my bank were also let go), it definitely made me forget my worries for a few hours.

      • JCF

        {{{eyechart and fellow employees}}}

  • FloBear

Thanks for shopping, but Jennifer Hudson now owns that song.

My favorite scene from the original original original Hairspray:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEkLpmvIMuw

    • djcoastermark

      yes yes yes.

    • Joe in PA

and they say white men can’t dance. Pffft.

    • Cuberly

LUV that scene. Riki kicks it!

  • Treant

No, seriously, what the hell is in those cans!

    • djcoastermark

HAIRSPRAY ! The stuff of life in the 50’s and 60’s silly.

  • JK3

I’ll say it again. She should have been Penny.

  • DaddyRay

    Great job on this number

  • Cuberly

Bummed I’m on the left coast and can’t play along. 🙁

This is so much better than primary debates……and healthier.

    • DaddyRay

So sorry you missed it – we won’t tell you that they changed the ending and they all die

      Opps

      • Cuberly

        (Shakes fist in the air…..DADDYRAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!)

  • djcoastermark

    Bravo! Mrs Turnblat!

  • Steven B

I’m enjoying it however they are adding songs and entire scenes that weren’t in either movie. I get the impression they’re doing it for the sake of making it longer. Not better. IMHO they’re guilding the lily.
THAT SAID did anyone else catch The Devine Pet Store with the pink flamingo neon sign? Pure brilliance.

    • djcoastermark

      And the Waters store too.

    • GeoffreyPS

It was a live performance of the stage musical. Some of the story was changed as the musical was translated to a movie and some songs were chopped (but were used instead during the credits). There may have been a few changes from the stage performance (it’s been a while), but there were no added songs.

  • Kevin Perez

I NEED Jenifer Hudson’s gold pantsuit!!

  • fuzzybits

“That girl has roaches in her hair!” Sorry I’m partial to the original movie. Didn’t even see the Travolta movie. https://youtu.be/IXG-Yx2zHGw

    Encore

  • Treant

My new catchphrase for the bigots and conservatives. “You can’t stop the beat.”

  • HomerTh

I attended the NYC premiere of Hairspray. John Waters stood in front of me watching the audience during the movie. Afterward when we went outside, Divine was signing autographs wearing a floor length mink coat. He died the next week.

    • Strepsi

wow what a fantastic thing to have done )) cheers Homer!

    • It’s so brilliant. The midnight drive-in movies that showed his earlier films were disappearing and he was going to have to go mainstream to have a career. And he did…but only on the surface. In it’s own way Hairspray by being so upbeat and cheerful allowed him to make a public mockery of racism and racists. Why can’t the black and white kids dance together on tv? There’s no good reason and yet these were huge controversies in every city in the country. But it’s not a diatribe against racism. We just mock them. We laugh at them. Yes, this is needed at this particular time even more than it was when the movie or the musical came out.

  • Ceebee

Well – this became the J-Hud steal…..props to Cheno, Harvey, Amber and (to my surprise) – Derek H as Corny – great ending to an otherwise enjoyable live show (with a few — expected mishaps)….

  • Treant

And yes, I’d say that we gayed the fuck out of that.

    My husband was watching Hellboy.

    • Ninja0980

Basketball here, my hubby won’t watch musicals if his life depended on it.
      Must be a bi thing.

      • djcoastermark

Normally don’t do too many musicals, but this was a lot of fun.

      • Treant

I’m shocked that my niece didn’t watch this–she’s in every single high school musical and takes acting and singing classes. She was at karate instead, it turns out.

        • Ninja0980

My niece watched it and loved it.

  • kelven

    Great duet.

  • JoeMyGod

Speaking of Edna Turnblad, this is how I spent Memorial Day weekend 1983 at Fort Lauderdale’s Copa. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a1646421629a7f87f68f083f0607b788dd52d0d6d1031781680763c1fe7fd5b7.jpg

    • djcoastermark

      Aaahh, The Copa.

    • Treant

Alas, I was busy being a sophomore in high school that year.

    • JoeMyGod

Believe it or not, we didn’t actually watch Madonna because it was SO hot in the club. We listened from out on the patio figuring she was just another in the endless parade of one-hit wonders that played the Copa.

      • fuzzybits

        Madonna who?

      • DaddyRay

Did she ever go on to do anything significant 🙂

      • THEBEARCUB

AND SHE IS THE WORLD CLASS DOMINATOR TODAY….MADONNA!

      • JCF

You needed Ricky’s Seal of Approval.

    • CanuckDon

Wow…..a few months before “Holiday” took over the dance chart.

    • JoeMyGod

Divine’s very first line after taking the stage two hours late: “You all wanna fuck me, don’t you? I don’t blame you. If I was YOU I’d wanna fuck me too.”

      • fuzzybits

Was “I’m so beautiful” after this?

        • CanuckDon

          Yes.

          • fuzzybits

            Yea,I thought so. The mind.ya know. 🙂

        • JoeMyGod

As I recall, she did four numbers that night: Native Love, Jungle Jezebel, Shoot Your Shot, and Love Reaction.

          • JoeMyGod

The flyer mentions The Name Game but I don’t remember hearing that one. Which I think I would because of “Let’s do DICK!”

          • CanuckDon

So cool….it was late ’85 when I saw her at Komrads in Toronto.

    • fuzzybits

  • Deviancy Behavir

WOW! That was truly amazing, so glad I watched it. Yes, we can all agree that Arianna was definitely miscast.

  • Mark

    thoroughly fun!
    and two whole hours without….well..’them’.

    • Treant

Which I found I needed more than I thought I did.

  • djcoastermark

Seaweed J Stubbs, played by Ephriam Sykes, who also was in Hamilton, is from here in St Pete and of course he is the top story on our local news here right now.

    • GeoffreyPS

I found his singing to be frustrating. He tried too hard to make each song his by constantly dragging and was many times a half-beat behind the music. My friend who had never seen the show asked why he wan’t singing with the music.

      • JCF

I heard that too, and wondered, technical difficulties?

  • edrex

i was at a friggin board meeting until 9 so i missed the first part. blech. but it seems that the second half was the best part anyhow, which i did enjoy. hubs is moving to “Narcos” now, so i guess i’ll go to the living room to read (too violent for me).

  • Cuberly

OK, NOW us left coasters are tuning in….purposely didn’t read most of the thread. I’m sure we’ll be dishing about it tomorrow ya’ll.

Yea,it’s been on the news here the last two days. Sad because he and his wife Annie are two of the most humble and warm people.

    • Cuberly

      I read that earlier.

      The heroes are leaving.

      • DaddyRay

At least they got to experience America before it gets flushed down the toilet

    • Moebym, Resistance Pilot

      No, anyone but him! Dammit

    • JCF

Hasn’t passed away yet. [True of all of us!]

Was just thinking about him (before this news), in connection to (want to see!) the movie “Hidden Figures” (how he insisted that Taraji P Henson’s character *personally* re-check the flight calculations before he first went up on Freedom 7, orbiting the Earth for the first time).

  • Hue-Man

O/T Kennethinthe212 cartoon expresses my approach to media today (and probably for the next 4 years). https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d361545e8848ca3a199dc03c22655d350f0b4303f8cfbf2d497a5bddd4787276.jpg

    • houstonray

THIS! Love it, that’s EXACTLY me right now. I’ve spent my whole life calling myself a “news junkie” and every few years, a “political junkie” and I spend my time now wanting to go the news, then not, then I finally do and he appoints a WWE wrestling CEO as head of a cabinet post and I retreat back into “don’t wanna know, don’t wanna know…..”.

I’m printing this and putting it on the fridge. Might help hubby understand me, ha.

      • Hue-Man

It’s gotten so bad, I am having an internal debate every day about whether to keep watching PBS Newshour. I can’t stand the constant assaults on basic civility but don’t want to miss reporting by correspondents like Fred de Sam Lazaro and others. For now, the MUTE button is suffering from Repetitive Strain Injury!

        • houstonray

Amen, you and I sound like we’re having the same struggle. I will admit to watching much less than I do. During the campaign, I enjoyed the arguing and the talking heads mainly because they were so stupid I just knew no one in their right mind would give these people power. Now, knowing that they all have access to the next President, well that just makes me insane. I will watch the news for a bit but that’s all I can do. I have to turn it off. It’s going to be a long 4 years.

Hang in there, we’ll all get through this together!

  • Ninja0980

O/T but we know have George Michael’s Last Christmas song playing.
We have gotten our gay card back.

  • boobert

O/T: looks like the judge in michigan lifted the recount order.

  • BuckyB12

I know it’s their job, as professionals, to bring the emotion across but I’d like to think that some of what I saw in the supporting players in “I Know Where I’ve Been” was genuine emotion from the actors (including Maddie B.) and not just from the characters.

For live TV, pretty well done – one bad light cue at the beginning which left Tracy in total darkness; Sean Hayes seemed badly miked during “Welcome to the 60s” and Penny should have been blocked downstage from Tracy in the gym as they listened to Seaweed (but maybe Grande wasn’t giving what Penny should be feeling). Had no idea that Derek Hough could actually sing.

I love the Broadway musical in general but I don’t think there are very many with as utterly joyful a finale as this show.

  • Ninja0980

My Bernie or Bust cousin just sent me a text message saying maybe she shouldn’t have circulated anti Hillary stories after all..
    LITTLE LATE DON”T YOU THINK?!!
    Ahem..

    • Treant

Tell her she got exactly what she was working toward. Enjoy.

      • Ninja0980

She and I did tell her that along with a note to quit contacting me.
After all, I was the stupid neoliberal who was going for the anti-gay Democrat Hillary instead of St. Bernie who told same sex couples in VT and MA who asked for his help in trying to get equal rights or stop anti-gay efforts to go to hell.
A fact he forgot to mention when claiming he was always the LGBT champion.
The far left is just as toxic as the far right and I fear if Ellison gets in it will be worse.

        • Lazycrockett

Well Bernie is making damn sure that he is not done with destroying the Democrat party if you have been falling his tweets.

          • Ninja0980

His interviews speak louder then his tweets.
Not to mention in many ways he did by undermining Hillary as much as he did.
I can’t forgive him at this point, I really can’t.

          • Treant

Nor I, but he’s not a Democrat any longer. He breezed in, he breezed out, he’s spent far more than half his remaining goodwill and he’s reaching the end of his career.

          • Ninja0980

Yup, and when he goes, hopefully his cult will as well.

          • Cuberly

Give him a chance, he’s regrouped with the Dems, realizing the damage Trump will do. He hasn’t compromised his leanings, and he knows we’re in a war right now.

          • Ninja0980

Too bad he didn’t realize that when he was undermining Hillary and the Democratic party during the primaries and afterwards.
He did a lot of damage that couldn’t be undone.

          • Cuberly

I get ya. But we’re a a point where we have to let bygones be bygones. We need every bernie follower right now.

Listened to a far far far left program on KPFA earlier this week and even they (finally) had a revelation that Trump was their worst enemy. They even made mention that they were crushed after Hillz lost, yeah that left me scratching my head. But, we have to pull together.

          • Treant

Good luck with that. At the moment, the far left can go fuck itself after offering very little constructive assistance during the entire election process.

          • Ninja0980

Not to mention the fact they still don’t seem to get that far left folks like Bernie aren’t going to win statewide or federal elections in places like ND, IN, FL etc.
You go with a Centrist and even (ick) Blue Dog Democrats or you go with the Republicans.
And contrary to popular belief, the latter is virtually ensured to worse then the former.

          • Cuberly

Well, I think we have an opportunity here, to learn and come together. Seeing some sense of outreach from the far left gives me hope that maybe some of us older activist codgers can talk with them.

I think we need discourse more than anything right now.

          • Treant

I’ll be glad to discourse after they don’t fuck up yet another election…they can call me in December of 2020 if they’re good boys and girls.

What I’m saying here is that I’ll be waiting for them to come to me. And to be responsible.

          • Ninja0980

Given their talk on centrist Democrats, they haven’t gotten their yet.

So what’s the alternative? Stop talking?

Seems to me that was the problem to begin with. There’s no guarantees this won’t be messy. But even if that seems out of reach, rather obvious we’re at a point where we need all the friends we can get.

          • Treant

Meh. Supposedly, he’s a politician and should know the damage Trump will do. It was obvious to me, a political nobody.

But he still did what he did, and I’m sure he sleeps like a baby knowing his hands are “clean.”

For my part, I went from liking him to neutral to dislike to, at this point, that flip of the fingers that says, “This person is no longer consequential to me.”

          • Cuberly

I have and he’s been pretty freakin awesome.

        • Treant

He, she, whatever, she’s dead to you. 🙂

Honestly, the head of the DNC doesn’t really matter that much. They only have any level of power until the primary is over, then they’re out the door. And they don’t have a lot of influence over the primary, either, quite apart from the BoB’s claims that Debbie done killed Bernie.

    • Cuberly

      Oy….!

Just so long as they fee regret and get hurt by their decisions, I’m fine.

  • worstcultever

Don’t have a tv, can somebody tell me how I can watch this thing somewhere after the fact? thx

    • SoCalGal20

You should be able to stream it online on NBC.com. Not sure how quickly things go up but it should probably be up tomorrow.

    • djcoastermark

You might try Kodi . Shows usually appear pretty quickly. It should be there no later than tomorrow.

Ms. Baillio’s energy level is unreal…I’d have to be buzzed on something strong to be able to do a live show that lasted this long this late into the night. Even watching it is exhausting, and I’m really liking it…

Now I understand why so many celebrities become drug addicts. It’s got to be really exhausting for a mere mortal to put out a performance like this convincingly for an audience late night-after-night.

    • tcinsf

Broadway stars do it 8 times per week!

  • Everette

It was good. I hate it when an original work has to be tarted up to reach a wider audience—the original movie was genius–but not having seen the stage form of the show before I loved some of the new songs and tonight the cast was brilliant. Seeing this show tonight was exactly what we needed.

    Link is terrible!

      Nice butt tho.

Well I guess Drumpf has decided to attack some Carrier Union Leader who didn’t agree with him on twitter, so now the guy is getting death threats. Oh Happy Days.

    Hi everyone,

Equality Texarkana is trying to get 10 new donations to their GoFundme account so they can try and raise some more funds in the next 2 days (well technically one day now). This was notified by the CEO Jimmy. He wants to see if we can squeeze as much as we can through GoFundme just because it is there to be utilized.

Outreach center is our goal right now, for LGBT people as well as other oppressed groups that exist in the Texarkana area.

We have done a lot of the groundwork that was necessary to become a non-profit organization, and we would like to open doors before the new year, so every little bit counts even the few dollars you have lying around that could put to a good cause this holiday season.

Look into memberships as well we have a deal with 5 dollars (or 50 dollars for a whole year) which provides you with discounts to local events in the area, as well as helping go towards keeping utility bills manageable in the summer and winter as well as keep the lights on in the outreach center.

Ok, Jennifer Hudson just gave me hope for civilization. Dayum! Full 10 on the goosebump meter.

And fuck did I need it.

    • DaddyRay

So sad she dies in the end

      • Cuberly

        oh youuuu! 😉

      • Treant

I know, right? And being decapitated by a flying record was simply a bit too ironic for me.

OT: I love the comments on this article that poops on the constant calls for kumbaya nuttiness. Especially this one:

I would like to use the open thread to damn the evil bastards in my area who decided that the shingles vaccine would only be given to people over the age of 50.

My birthday is the 23rd of December, I’ll be 50. Today I picked up a prescription to treat an outbreak of shingles. I’ve broken my back, I thought I knew what pain is. Ow, ow owowoowowowowoowowow. fuck.

    • fuzzybits

I heard it’s really painful. Get well soon. I was told to get it even though I couldn’t remember if I had smallpox or not. Will do in Jan. during yearly physical.

      • Hue-Man

        Chickenpox.

I’m just glad polio vaccine was available in my childhood. I had all the other diseases – both measles, chickenpox, mumps.

      • Earl

        Chickenpox. 🙂

      • Earl

Yes, it’s really fucking painful too. outdoes broken bones, and surgery…

I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if I didn’t have t3s. I’m tempted to ask for percocets the next time I’m at the doc’s. ’cause, fuck… aowwwww

    • Treant

My father had it and it sucks. I hope you feel better soon!

      • Earl

Doc said 2-6 weeks, with a possibility of chronic pain afters. I joked with him about my back and said what’s a little more pain? I finally got him to laugh.

        • Lazycrockett

My dad had it and breezed through it in like 2 weeks his aunt had for 4 months and still has pain. He’s 80 and she’s closing on mid 90’s.

    • royinhell

My condolences. I had it at age 45. Seems the earlier you got chicken pox, the more likely you are to get shingles. Had to go to the ER as I had no idea why it felt like I was being tased every minute. Only the sweet sweet morphine eased the pain (until I couldn’t poop for days after- a fair tradeoff).

      • Earl

I’ve still got the stool softeners from last summer, when I had my hernia operation. I’ll be shitting again in a couple of days, w/out doubt. 🙁

Morphine? I’ll ask, after last night, of dozing for an hour, then ow…

    • zhera

In Norwegian, the shingels is called ‘Helvetesild’. Hell’s fire. Seems more correct.

      Be well soon!

    • JCF

Gack, you’re scaring me. I’m almost 55, and really didn’t much consider getting the vaccine. But maybe I ought to ask…

      • Bj Lincoln

        You really should.

    • Bj Lincoln

I got my outbreak on my 50th Bday. No doctor or pain relief. It sucked and lasted over a month. I asked around and checked the net to see if you can get it more than once. You can. I asked my doctor for a shot when the ACA kicked in and she won’t give me one until I’m 60!

This was their best so far!

  • JCF

Pretty freaking cute. But that last duet? Sorry, Ariana, but I really wish it had been JHud and CHENO: the two best voices tonight, and almost anywhere!

A great message, at this time (of all fecking times. I swear, though, when they sang “there’s no turning back!”, I almost yelled at the TV, “you don’t know about 2016, do you?” Sigh.)

Hey Drumpf: “You can’t stop the beat!”
