REALITY SHOW SOLIDARITY: Trump Is Considering Naming Sarah Palin To Be Secretary Of Veterans Affairs

ABC News reports:

Sarah Palin is under consideration for secretary of veterans affairs, a close Palin aide and a top Donald Trump transition official tell ABC News. The Palin aide tells ABC News that in “recent days,” Palin told Trump transition officials: “I feel as though the megaphone I have been provided can be used in a productive and positive way to help those desperately in need.”

Palin’s son-in-law, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, posted a SarahPAC video to his Facebook page earlier this week that heavily focuses on her work with veterans and her specific connection to the community. Her eldest son, Track, is a veteran who served in Iraq in 2008. The video, which is not new, seems to clearly show her interest in the position, and in the speech, she hits the VA “bureaucracy,” saying it is “killing our vets.”

The speech included Palin’s ideas on reforming the VA including improved health care, using military skills to return to the workforce and securing their benefits. The speech also included a hit at the current president.

“Stop blaming the victim and wake up, Mr. President,” she said. “While Christians bow our heads to pray for you, radical Islamists want to cut off your head. The only thing standing between us and savages, it’s the red white and blue, it’s the United States military! And if you love freedom, thank a vet! Thank them. Honor them.”

  • sherman

Someone please explain to her that doesn’t mean she is supposed to have affairs with veterans.

    • Todd20036

I think she believes she’s in charge of veterinarians.

      • another_steve

But can she see them out her window?

      • safari

She’s going to try to convince them to eat meat, eh?

    • Xiao Ai

I’m getting more convinced daily that his picks are designed to troll the masses while bringing the whole damn thing crashing down.

      • SomeOfThemWant2UseU

Sadly, apparently the masses are SO stupid that they have no clue what’s going on, nor do they care – otherwise this wouldn’t have happened in the first place.

        • David Walker

Many of them just wanted to stick it to the liberals. Their claim that we don’t listen to them is valid. And in an era when radio propagandists can say anything and get away with it, over and over again, louder and louder and louder, what better way to show that they count, too, than to vote for a rich guy who says (fill in the blank) and has a pin-up girl for a wife. I’ve said it before: Drumpf is their wet dream.

          • Xiao Ai

Sadly, all too many of them are also “liberals”.

          • Mark Cross

Yes, sadly, without being more specific, I can confirm I have family members who are VERY CLOSE on my family tree, for whom Trump is their wet dream.

        • Xiao Ai

As long as they don’t pay attention to how it affects them until it does, “There’s nothing to see here folks! Move along!”.

    • shivadog

It’s bizarre to watch, every pick has been basically the worst person imaginable.

    • StSean

At this point, I’m kind of OK with the whole “crash and burn” scenario.

  • Todd20036

So, any veterans rethinking their Trump choice yet?

    • lymis

Nope. Hated him before. Hate him now.

  • Pollos Hermanos
    • Chuck in NYC

I love how they gave the puppets’ teeth amalgam fillings.

  • bkmn

What will it take to convince the moron base that they are going to be so screwed due to voting for him?

  • mikeinrkfd

This makes me sick, my husband could lose his VA benefits and I hear they want to take away the surviving spouse benefits for same sex spouses.

    • another_steve

Very very hard to take away existing benefits from current beneficiaries. They can make them unavailable to future applicants, but very hard to take them away from current beneficiaries.

      I wouldn’t worry.

      • bkmn

I won’t put it past them to manufacture a fiscal crisis and claim they have to cut Social Security payments to beneficiaries to save the budget. And I am fairly certain they are going to completely screw over anyone who is on Social Security Disability and I am 100% sure they are going to gut Medicaid so that millions of people in nursing homes will be made homeless.

        • another_steve

All that stuff requires either a statutory or regulatory change. Anyone who has ever worked in government knows how difficult it is to make those changes happen.

I once worked in an agency that considered tightening up on regulations in such a way as to disadvantage certain people with disabilities. Two months later, five hundred people in wheelchairs circled the building. We needed police escorts to get from our offices to our cars.

          The changes never happened.

          • bkmn

You can bet the Koch brothers have teams of people working on drafting those new statutes. They need to put more money in the Koch brothers’ pockets.

          • Uncle Mark

Yeah, but Medicare & Social Security affect everyone. AARP is a powerful lobbying organization, plus every senior citizen, as well as family & friends would raise unholy hell. If the GOP or Trump are looking to start (and lose) their revolution, this is it.

          • another_steve

With the Federal Register and daily Congressional Digest now online, the public has access to proposed government actions instantaneously. There can certainly be — and there often is — backroom wheeling and dealing, but once something becomes an official government proposal, the public knows.

Business thieves like Donald Trump are used to cutting deals and no one finding out about them.

He’s in for a big surprise now.

          • Beagle

New regulations and changes to regulations usually require publication and an opportunity for public comment before they go into effect. And interest groups can get a lot of people to send comments.

(Helpful hint: If you decide to use a form comment prepared by one of those groups, personalize it before you send it to that agency. Best course: Add at least a sentence or two with your own views on the subject. That way, the agency will treat your comment as a unique statement instead of lumping it with 10,000 other identical emails.)

          • another_steve

            Excellent suggestions, Beagle.

Interest groups, nowadays, go immediately to the press when an agency attempts to do something heinous “quietly,” through a regulatory change.

Oh lordy lordy… I expect all of us to be seeing and hearing a lot of that in the months and years ahead.

  • Mike Rasor

Given her track record, she’ll take the job and quit after a year.

    • Robincho

If “track” is the word you’re looking for…

    • RaygunsGoZap

True. But not before using her position to hurt any veteran who criticizes her.

      • David Walker

To bed-bound guy in traction, leg hanging in the air: “Gee. I wonder if this hurts.” She starts to shake the chain.

    • Jerry

Yes, Track Palin has a record…

  • another_steve

    Nothing would surprise me anymore.

If David Duke is appointed head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, I would not be surprised.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

I think he picks the most horrific candidate to troll the left, blow up the internet and make the public gasp in relief when he puts in a (only slightly) less odious choice who is going to be a billionaire donor or someone who will financially profit from the position, perhaps an owner of private healthcare facilities who would just LOVE to privatize the VA to help ‘take care of vets”.

  • Sam_Handwich

is Secretary of the Inferior already filled?

  • TuuxKabin

“I feel as though the megaphone I have been provided can be used in a productive and positive way to help those desperately in need.” Bitch that would be you. You need more help than’s prolly available. Please eat something bad, and die.

  • andrew

Veterans deserve better than to have such an intellectually challenged and ideologically driven light weight like Palin to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

    • Oikos

The country deserves better than to have an orange shitgibbon in the White House. I wouldn’t hope for too much from this man child hoping to be king.

      • Moebym of the Rebel Alliance

Are you sure we deserve better, when he won according to the rules?

        • Oikos

I’m not sure about that. Clinton had an insurmountable lead in FL in early voting. I think it was rigged.

          • Moebym of the Rebel Alliance

I don’t disagree with you at all that something has gone terribly wrong. This is why these rules need to get thrown out, because they make rigging entirely too easy to carry out.

        • NancyP

Was Trump treasonous in accepting the help of Putin?

    • David Walker

I think she was lured more by the Affairs part. I had a few affairs with veterans Back Then, so I can at least be sympathetic to that. The fact that she is utterly clueless about anything frightens me. Men and women going to fight for a country that now goes back on just about every promise made to them deserve better. Much better. Infinitely better.

I hope our allies really do have our backs because I think things might get very ugly.

As a young man I wondered why the Jews didn’t flee before Hitler got them. Now, as an older man trapped in the USA due to health problems (HIV+) and being poor, I understand.

They thought it was a passing phase. It’s the old story of the frog in a pan of water slowly heating until it’s boiled alive.

The thing that gives me hope is that us homos are actually a pretty tough bunch because we’ve had to be. And if things get really bad we can always release the drag queens on them. Never fuck with a drag queen unless you want to face the whirling press-on nails of death! 😉

          • Silver Badger

One cold evening many years ago on a Denver inner city bus, I watched in awe as a drag queen destroyed a man with her high heels. It was painful, bloody and absolutely wonderful.

          • Jerry

They really had to be tough…it’s why some of the biggest shit-stirrers, like at Stonewall, were the drag queens. Ever since I came out in 1979, at age 15, I had a friend who did drag and was later trans. In the early ’90s, she decked an abusive ex-boyfriend of mine for bad-mouthing me in a bar (one punch–he was out cold, blood everywhere, broken nose)…I wasn’t there, but still occasionally hear the story.

        • Silver Badger

How kind. Thank you so much for your offer. No, I’m not racist and no, I’m not hiding either. If the time for battle comes, I’m taking many with me. One needs servants in the afterlife. Many, many servants. Again, thank you for your offer!

      • greenmanTN

Hopefully we can put aside our differences and band together.

I don’t want to blame any particular community, but I was shocked by how many straight white women voted for Trump. Someone who brags about grabbing women by the pussy is acceptable to you? For those women who voted for him, don’t come crying to me when his misogyny becomes institutionalized.

        • Silver Badger

For many straight women, especially those over a certain age, it is HARD to get your pussy grabbed. At least that’s what I’m told. Perhaps their votes were simply wishful thinking.

Note: I mean no disrespect against any woman, straight or gay. Please don’t hurt me.

          • Silver Badger

            I didn’t say I didn’t like lesbians. I’m just scared of them.

          • greenmanTN

LOL! Not accusing you of anything.

I’ve never been a fan of girly-girls since I come from a family where the women aren’t exactly shy.

When I was in High School there was a short-lived fad for girls to wear (sometimes large) bows in their hair. So I wrote a short story for an English class about bows being brain-sucking aliens from outer space.

One of my favorite moments from school. This really weird guy literally whipped out his dick and waved it at a girl. She looked at it and said, “Hell, mine’s bigger than that!” And kept on walking.

          • Silver Badger

Once many years ago, I accidently wandered into a lesbian feminist book store. I looked up from a book rack to find myself surrounded by 8 or 10 lesbians hating me. No one said a word, they just stood there and hated at me. I left quickly and never felt totally comfortable around lesbians since.

          • greenmanTN

I like to read, I mean like it a LOT, so when I lived in Houston one of my regular stops was a lesbian/feminist bookstore. They reacted to me like a unicorn just entered the building but were always very nice to me.

I think Annise Parker, future lesbian mayor of Houston, was one of the owners but I wouldn’t swear to it. It was a long time ago so the details are a bit fuzzy.

        • NancyP

Misogyny is not confined to men. Many women are heavily invested in the “good girl” identity of the “good girl vs slut” dichotomy. In this worldview, only sluts get grabbed, otherwise harassed, or raped, have unwanted pregnancy, get dumped by husband. These are the sort of people who think abortion should only be legal in case of rape, incest, or “me”.

          • greenmanTN

The “me” thing really is the issue. They don’t have a drop of sympathy for anyone until it becomes about them.

“Oh but my daughter got pregnant so that’s different” or “My son is gay so suddenly I have some empathy.”

        • JCF

I’ll see you your “straight white women [who] voted for Trump”, and raise you the VASTLY greater white MEN (and not all straight) for Trump.

          • greenmanTN

Yeah, I know, but y’all are supposed to be better than us! 😉

(The worst thing about being a gay man is you have to date men. They’re the worst. Fuck, I’m one of them!)

      • NancyP

I have been reading the diaries of Victor Klemperer, a Jewish-baptized-Christian romance languages professor in pre-war Dresden. He happened to be married to a gentile, and this made him among the last of the Dresden Jews to be selected for deportation. Most younger Jews with any money at all emigrated between 1933 to 1938 (could leave with some assets, and this made it easier to be allowed into another country) and 1938 to 1941 (could leave with only clothes and equivalent of 5 marks, which got stolen by border guards) . Some stayed, in order to care for parents. Mid-career or older people hesitated about leaving. People with major businesses that hadn’t yet been confiscated hesitated. Retirees and infirm people were more or less stuck – no nation would be willing to take in a 70 year old. Klemperer himself felt badly early on about making his wife move into an uncertain future as an emigre, although he struggled to get another job outside Germany.

I think we could make some serious coin selling them.

  • Jeffg166

    Can she prequit the job?

    • agcons

All she really needs to know is the term length for the job. Then she can ask someone else to tell her when the halfway point is.

  • wow, what an insult to vets. too bad so many of them vote republican, cause “they are the ones who really care about the troops!”

any vet who served for more than two weeks and still thinks this should be slapped with a rotting fish.

    • Earl

      Are all ex-service people veterans?

I’ve never considered myself one; never fought a war when I was in the navy. 🙂

      • depends on who you’re asking. there are people who served in peacetime, and i personally consider them veterans, as does the government. there are people who served during a period in which the US was engaged in a conflict, but never saw a battlefield or actual combat. imho and that of the govt they too are vets. there are some people who think that if you weren’t ‘on a battlefied’ you’re not a Real Veteran, but they are few. it hardly matters these days, when half our (illegal, undeclared, under the radar of public eye) “wars” are carried out not anywhere near the nation in question, but from a computer center somewhere in CA or VA, operated long distance by people in uniform running drone bombing machines etc. when those people get out, i don’t know if they will be considered “combat” veterans, but they will be veterans in the eyes of the govt all the same.

  • Rick

But can she see the veterans from her house?

  • Blake Mason

I would imagine vets with PTS will be triggered by one of her word salad speeches.

    • fuzzybits

Or just having to listen to that voice.

  • Tor

Will someone please hold my hair while I puke?

    • TuuxKabin

I’ll hold your hair and your forehead, and gently wipe your chin and give you a fresh hankie for good measure. Then serve you something to calm you. We’re going to be ‘having a lot of each other’s back’s’.

      • Silver Badger

        Absofuckinglyloutly.

      • Tor

        Thank you, dear.

  • Bad Tom

Trump continues building his Cabinet of Sadness.

    • Earl

A modern day horror re-make of

      The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

      • Bad Tom

In the non-fiction section everywhere, January 21!
        ——-
        Sad. Terrifyingly sad.

      • another_steve

TCM occasionally runs that film, and I recently caught it. What a weird thing it is.

Some movie historians consider it the world’s first true horror movie.

    • Blake Mason

When you bring your basket of deplorables back from the election and need to put them somewhere.

    • agcons

Or the Cabinet of Insanity and Despair.

  • Stubenville

    Why does Trump hate veterans?

  • KarenAtFOH

Earth to Electors, you’re the last stop before this thing jumps the rails.

  • I’m a Viet Nam vet and I get my healthcare through the VA. Now Trump
wants to destroy the VA by putting that Bozo in charge? This, along with his surrogates’ plans to destroy Medicare?! It’s bad enough that his
likely SCOTUS picks will probably try to invalidate my marriage!

  • Blake Mason

You know this will make her a Washington insider now… will not the .00000001% of credibility she has left. And I am being generous.

  • Stubenville

How about another spin on it? Palin would be good for almost nonstop distractions from whatever else the Trump Administration was up to. (Hey his whole campaign was based on distractions and deflections.)

  • GayOldLady

The woman’s never finished a job in her life, so indeed, give her a cabinet position she can walk away from.

    • Earl

Be fired from. I’ll bet you she’ll be one of Trump’s first scapegoats.

      First of many…

      • GayOldLady

        We can hope.

    • David Walker

I suppose we could ask Daddy Palin if she’s ever finished a job.

      • JCF

        {shudder}

    • NancyP

Oh good, you seem to be alright. Stay safe. Fire looks bad.

      • GayOldLady

We’re doing good. We’ve had some really good rain here so I think we’re going to be fine

  • That_Looks_Delicious

This is interesting (to me, at least): Hillary Clinton got 78% of the LGBT vote. So if only we had voted, Hillary would’ve won in a landslide. but Trump did not get the other 22%. The most idiosyncratic result of this study of the LGBT vote this year is that LGBTs were more than twice as likely as the general population to vote third party, although it’s not broken down into how much went for Johnson/Stein/McMullin/other.

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2016/11/30/talking_with_queer_americans_who_didn_t_vote_for_hillary_clinton.html

I realize that the vast majority of these 3rd party voters were in states where it wouldn’t and didn’t make any difference, but I wonder how the 3rd party LGBT voters in Wisconsin and Michigan feel now seeing the coming Trumpocalypse unfold.

    • i doubt that group in either state is even close to the margin by which he supposedly won. chew out gay non-voters; there are far more of them. 22% of 8% divided by 2.25 is a tiny number, probably closer to being statistically insignificant.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

True. And the 8% might be an overestimate. Just based on personal experience, I’ve always been more inclined to believe the studies that say we’re about 4%~5% of the population. The 10% always seemed too high to me and the 2% estimate always seemed too low.

      • Beagle

Doing math in my head is risky, but here goes. 22% of 8% is about 1-3/4%. Divided by 2.25 is — call it 0.7%. Enough to flip MI, and make WI and PA close enough that a recount might just maybe really change things.

        • hey, i’m happy to be wrong! imho the voting in all the supposedly close states was rigged, one way or another (or in more than one way at the same time). but if we’re talking about a recount? a real, hand tallied, eye ball inspected recount of ALL the ballots, i’m all for that. last time i checked some of the states were saying they would not recount all the ballots, just a “representative sample.” in other words, not a recount.

    • They don’t care. And won’t until they start getting rounded up in the middle of the night and put in boxcars.

    • SammySeattle

Not really, you’ve not taken distribution demographics into consideration. LGBT people tend to migrate toward major metropolitan areas, which Mrs. Clinton already carried. Your numbers would bear out in the popular vote, which Mrs. Clinton also carried, but wouldn’t have made enough of a difference in electoral votes.

  • Bomer

    Haven’t our vets suffered enough?

  • Robert Anthony

Oh what a clown car he’s packin’.

  • MB
    • Lumpy Gaga

      [bannable]

      • i gew up in devosland. you have no idea how horrible these people are. they’ve been openly fascist since day one. if that’s not enough to make you hate them: Amway. yeah, blame them for that too.

    • Octavio

Shouldn’t the sign she’s holding say, “I can haz work hard to dismantle edjumacashion inn Murica.”?

  • Michael McReavy

I was just thinking that Anthony Senecal, Trump’s former butler who thought Obama should have been hanged or shot, will probably be The Donald’s pick for Chief of Protocol. Yes, Senecal is 84 and likely senile but he probably still remembers which fork to use at formal dinners, so why not?

  • Look, I can see Arlington Cemetery from my house!

  • Richard

It seems like he is going out of his way to select the worst he can find to fill all these positions. All those angry white middle class morons that voted for tRump are in for a big surprise when he snatches their affordable healthcare away along with ending Medicare and Medicaid, and that’s only the beginning. It’s going to be a very long and painful, and dangerous, four years. God help us !!

    • Robert Conner

      You betcha!

  • TheJudgement

    Laughs
I thank whoever voted for this guy for the clown show

  • Lazycrockett

She will quit in a month.

  • Robert Conner

No doubt Bristol will be the HMFIC of the VA’s gynecology clinics.

    • David Walker

      Morale person?

  • Mark

oh my jeesus fucking christ! Palin for Vet Affairs? Dumb bitch can’t even manage her home affairs say much less millions of vets. And her two ‘vets’ came home without any injuries. Like we need a word salad weasel heading up VA. FUCK!

  • Well now he’s not only drained the swamp but has hired a backhoe to dig deep into the muck at the bottom to find that thing…

  • boatboy_srq

“Department of Veterans Affairs.” Seems strangely appropriate somehow.

  • Henry Auvil

I can’t. The world has gone insane. I just called my local liquor emporium to ask if they sell vodka in kegs. I just can’t…

What’s next? Honey Boo Boo for Secretary of Agriculture?

    • Beagle

At least Honey Boo Boo isn’t homophobic. If Uncle Whatshisname offers any clues.

    • sherman

One of the ads here says something like “You won’t believe how much weight Honey Boo Boo’s mom has lost!!”

      • Silver Badger

The answer to that question was some, but not much.

    • SammySeattle

I’m sure he’ll find someone at Monsanto for that position.

  • KnownDonorDad

I think there is something to Trump’s negotiating tactic of starting with the most extreme request. I found myself thinking, at least Elaine Chao had cabinet experience, and if he has to pick Palin, better this than Department of Energy.

  • JDS
  • Jack

At the very least, the VA needs someone who has shown the ability to stick with a job.

    Our veterans deserve much better.

  • Steverino

Oh dear god, wait until I tell my disabled vet hubby.

He’s going to go from 100% disability to 110%, if that’s possible.

  • ByronK

Sorry, I’m losing track. Is this the second or third horseman?

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

If any of you Wake me up, you better pour me a drink and let me pass out again.

    #OhFuckNo

  • Matt

Veterinarians everywhere should be GREATLY concerned!

    • Treant

She wants to help veterinarians because she’s always loved children…

  • Spongebob CrankyPants

    LOL.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

I say, let’s call her bluff. As unfair to veterans as it would be.

  • Octavio

Once she famously fails at making any improvements with Veterans’ Affairs we will be able to relentlessly ridicule her without sympathy for the rest of her life. I doubt she’ll last more than two years because she can’t focus during long meetings. . LOL, hell she can’t follow a simple train of thought for 30 minutes!

    • Amanda B. Rekendwith

      30 minutes?
30 words is closer to the truth.

  • SammySeattle

Cut to 2019: “This is hard, I quit.”

    • 2guysnamedjoe

2019? She’ll find the call of the wild irresistible, and she’ll resign effective the opening day of Alaska’s moose season, 2017.

  • Cipher

So this loon can help the rest of the Vets the same way she has helped her own Veteran son? No thanks.

  • caphillprof

He must not like veterans very much.

  • mjcc1987

I don’t think this is real.

  • Acronym Jim

The last thing that braying she-ass needs is a megaphone.

  • Ore Carmi

Thank god. I thought he’d appoint her Secretary of the Interior. I’m actually relieved. (But let’s see what bozo he finds for that position!)

    • houstonray

      Probably crazy Oklahoma Governor Fallon…

      • Ore Carmi

I just looked her up–yeah, she’s a bit scary. Anti-gay, rabidly pro-death penalty, and power hungry and anti-democratic. Not everything she’s done during her political career has been bad, but her governorship sounds rather horrifying!

  • JR

    No.

    Just… No.

  • dcurlee

I just picture the Palins rolling around on the White House lawn in a big brawl

    • excy

Exactly…it looks like the inauguration ball is going to be tremendous. Can’t wait until the booze kicks in.

      • dcurlee

        It will be yyyyuuuuggggeeee

  • GBF62

Veterans have enough problems already. They deserve better than to have a quitter assigned to oversee their well-earned benefits.

  • JellyDonut

    Oh HELL NO!!

  • yuo908

She should be secretary of the ice cream cone. This clown era in politics – astonishing.

  • olandp

I’m sure she can cut the VA budget while getting the vets more services.

  • houstonray

I wake up some mornings and just think, none of this can possibly be true can it…sigh…

  • WhiteJesus

    Nominate her. Make my day.

  • ohbear1957
  • 3-Star

Wow. Never thought the day would come that my four years in the Air Force were all for nothing.

  • J Ascher

At first, Palin thought Veterans Affairs was about former soldiers have “illicit” relations on government property!

  • DaveMiller135

Maybe it’s Helsinki (Sweden) Syndrome, but at this point I feel like, Why not?

  • JCF

…because our veterans apparently haven’t suffered enough.

[“Palin’s son-in-law, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer”: hey, I thought he DIDN’T marry Abstinence-Fail-Fail-Fail Palin?]

  • JCF

Now, just waiting for SCOTUS pick Crazy Eyes…

Episode #1 of the Palin/Trump reality show. Wide shot: Sarah leading Trump around in a swamp in Alaska. Close up: they’re spearing frogs. Cut to: The kitchen in Trump Tower. Two shot of Trump talking to his chef: “You can cook those with Secret Sauce, like on a Big Mac, right?” Close up of the chef nodding obsequiously. Cut to: One shot of Palin gnawing a raw frog leg in the corner of the kitchen.

  • Scott Millard

    No, just no.
