Jill Stein Issues Money Beg For Vote Recount

Business Insider reports:

Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein is raising money for a recount in several key states following New York magazine’s report that several top computer scientists alerted Hillary Clinton’s campaign they had found possible voter manipulation in several states.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Stein press director Meleiza Figueroa announced that Stein would be filing a recount, though Figueroa said she “can’t let you know the details yet.”

“The green party has always been at the forefront of fights to stand up for our democracy,” Figueroa said. Stein also announced a fundraising campaign to raising money to “demand recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania,” where the campaign claimed there are “significant discrepancies in vote totals.”

As of midday Wednesday, Stein had raised less than $10,000, nowhere near her goal of raising $2.5 million by Friday, around $500,000 less than she raised the entire election cycle. It’s unclear why Stein is raising money to spur a recount that would in theory throw the election to Hillary Clinton, whom Stein called the “queen of corruption.”

While experts in New York magazine’s report argue that there may be electronic voting machine manipulation, Pennsylvania primarily relies on electronic voting machines, but experts contend that they’re virtually un-hackable because they are so outdated, and do not have internet connection capabilities. Further, Michigan only uses paper ballots.

  • Lazycrockett

I’m surprised this grifter isn’t part of the Drumpf Administration yet.

    • Nowhereman

Yeah–she’d be perfect as surgeon general…

    • Cuberly

Nah, she doesn’t want a job in politics. She makes more $$ from her Exxon investments along with her speaking tour grievance mining.

  • moebym

    Bugger off, Jill.

You wouldn’t even have had to do this had you not run for President with zero qualifications and questionable morals and said that Zoo Penis would be a better president than Hillary.

  • Todd20036

Horse manure. She wants money. Period.

  • Higher odds she just takes the $2.5 mil to invest in trump properties in RU to nab herself That Dept of Health cabinet position

  • HZ81

Oh, now she cares. Shut up, Dr. Jerri Blankenstein. Back to obscurity for 4 years.

    • jimbo65

Yep. She’ll slink away only to be heard from in another 4 years. Meanwhile doing jack shit to build up candidates and causes. She’s nothing but a attention whore.

      • HZ81

Totally. That’s why I am so embarrassed for her few supporters. She’s a sham. If she gave two shits about her issues, she’d be in the trenches building the Green Party. Instead, she’ll disappear for four years, raking in the cash from her investments which clearly contradict her “principles.”

      • Nowhereman

This must be how she makes her money.

    • Marc

Too little and much too late. She already did her damage. http://68.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6m6ndmpc51rnjcmw.gif

        Haaaa!!!

      • crisper

Not a fan of JS but I’d cast much more blame with the half of the voting population who just didn’t bother. Had they turned out, we wouldn’t be having these issues.

  • JT

Fuck you, Jill Stein, and the whores you rode in on.

  • Jeffrey

Fuck off, Jill. And when you get there, fuck off from there too. Just keep fucking off until you get to Susan Sarandon’s house and then both of you go fuck off together.

    • AW

      That’s gross imagery.

      • paganguy

Could be a scene from a sequel to The Hunger with Sarandon reprising her original role and Stein in for Deneuve. Nah.

        • Jeffrey

          Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

          • paganguy

Hey, you were the one that brought it up. ;p

          • Jeffrey

Lol Susan Sarandon and a Catherine Deneuve was actually hot, though.

          • paganguy

That Catherine Deneuve is a goddess goes entirely without saying. πŸ™‚

    • HZ81

Ha, I was trying to tie Sarandon into a slam on Jill but failed. That is beautiful. πŸ™‚

      • Dazzer

If Sarandon were a true supporter of Stein, she’d provide the $2.5 mil from her own pocket.

        • HZ81

But that would drain Susan’s decorating account for her golden panic room. You know, the one she’ll be locking all of us out of when it all goes to hell.

          • JaniceInToronto

Hmmmmm, Sarandon, Sarandon. Oh right, she was an actor.

        An evening update :

In just a few hours since the announcement, Jill Stein reached $1 million and Twitter was trending with β€œJill Stein” and #Recount2016. The number is astounding given that Stein only raised $3.5 million for the entire election.
( over 2 million is needed for the recount to happen )

If nothing else fun to sit back and watch it happen .

        • blackstar

          as of now $1,569,792.62 RAISED

          • Librarykid

I received an email Saturday AM from Moveon.org and she has raised 2mil now. Since only a candidate can request a recount and Hillary is not going to do it, this is the only way it can happen.

          • Librarykid

I decided to go ahead and give $50 to the effort so that my dislike of Jill would not make me like those people who refused to vote for Hillary because their dislike for her cost us the election. If I wind up getting any emails from the green party, I will block them, but I really want the recount to work and totally deflate that fat fart Trump and all of his neo-nazi fellow travelers.

          • crisper

I don’t know much about the rules, but the cost of recount is established by each state. The bulk of the fundraising goal, at least as stated, is to cover the attorney/legal costs of implementing, overseeing, and challenging the results. Am with you–if this were about enrichment it would be seriously effed up. Let’s hold intention that it’s actually a good faith effort to rule out malfeasance in the election.

      • Queequeg

        I agree.

Those two assholes suffer no consequences from Trump presidency. This self proclaimed socialists have no interest in better the life of the working class and the poor but putting their names in the media for self interest whoring.

      • Dicky

There’s a story out there about what the “asshole left” will do with a Trump administration since much of what they want is the retooling or dissolution of the Democratic party, replacing it with something further left and most of what they were planning to do with a Clinton administration is what they have always been doing, criticizing Clinton and Obama for being political beings. They basically said that they will continue to hammer on Clinton. Trump would do well to keep them around as evidence of “balance.” The story was filed before Clinton’s receding from public political life.

  • TexasBoy

The same Jill Stein that said Trump would be less dangerous than Hillary? She can go jump in a lake.

  • Friday

So, that’s almost like trying to do something constructive, Jill, but, err, where’s 2.5 million dollars supposed to help? It’s possible that just being a candidate lets you just call for a recount, just on procedure, even if you weren’t one of the ones close. Dunno there.

  • bkmn

Did she finally wake up and realize what she did?

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

  • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

Jill, dear, what if a recount demonstrates you went down, not up?

    • Friday

      • bkmn

Someone has to pay for those hotel rooms that were booked in the wrong town.

      • Dazzer

In some states the person demanding the recount has to pay for it, in others the person demanding the recount only has to get 50 electors in the counties or state to trigger a recount.

The cost varies from state to state – but I wouldn’t have thought $2.5mil was an extravagant amount to cover all the costs.

        • Friday

Eh, honestly the Greens seem to have died of brain-drain some time ago, …I’d been away from where there were any Green local candidates even for some years, it seems while Obama and the Dems actually started being the best chance to get progressive things *done* what was left in the Greens was real fringey types.

    • boatboy_srq

A third party with no hope of gaining a majority advising its potential voters before the election to back the more preferable candidate of the two with a decent chance of winning would have been far more fitting, and likely more successful.

  • Bared Bear

Shouldn’t Hillary and/or the DNC have enough money to fund any recount fees? I don’t quite get why Stein is asking for this money… is this grifting or attention whoring or is it genuine? I don’t know her well enough. She wasn’t exactly on my radar during the actual election.

    • Dazzer

I assume it’s because Hillary’s team will be wavering on whether to demand a recount. Stein can do it without appearing to be a sore loser.

And the amount she’s asking for seems reasonable given the different costs involved in demanding recounts in different states.

Also, if the Greens do something rational in terms of securing electoral reform, it’ll attract more voters who are attracted by apparent ‘fair-mindedness’.

      • I don’t trust Jill Stein, nor would I give her money on this. There are whispers of some experts who have looked at voting data, but no matter how no election vote counting is far from perfect, I don’t see widespread voting irregularities or electronic voting manipulation to overturn the results in the three contested states..

I just see this as a PR Stunt by Dr. Stein, besides she can control the money.

    • Yes, Hillary and the Democrats should still have millions left over from the election. They would also have top flight legal teams filing motions and court orders in each state that is in question.

They haven’t because they know the significance in still contesting the election. They would also want some pretty hard evidence of malfeasance. Even if there were ballot irregularities, a recount does just that, recount each ballot. There has to be enough spoiled ballots or regain of ballot to overcome the deficit against Trump. Trump is pretty far ahead in the three states, that the margin of error or problems wouldn’t change the outcome..

I voted for Hillary Rodham Clinton, a Trump Presidency is my worst nightmare, I am sick thinking of Donald Trump as President of the United States. I think it is insane that Hillary Rodham Clinton won 2 million more votes than Donald Trump and it is not President of the United States. All that said, Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election by rules set down in the Constitution, it is unfair, disgusting and mind boggling, but he won by the rules in place..

  • boatboy_srq

Oh, so NOW she’s in the Anyone-But-Trump camp? How quaint.

  • KarenAtFOH

At least someone is willing to stand up and do something to try and stop the Trumpwreck. Where are the DEMS????

    • bobbyjoe

I despise Jill Stein with the heat of a thousand suns, but if the Democrats are going to just give us their patented “retreat! retreat!” on this, is there any other way we can get this garbage investigated?

If you haven’t read the original article by one of the computer experts, read it, it’s important:

      https://medium.com/@jhalderm/want-to-know-if-the-election-was-hacked-look-at-the-ballots-c61a6113b0ba#.vmkthmhul

      • There has been paranoia on electronic voting machines for some time now. In the past, it was many of the corporate owners of the machines gave plenty of campaign donations to the Republicans, and the software was proprietary..

The worries and fear are still more speculative, (I read the article you posted) than hard evidence of serious problems…

The big crime and disturbing issue for me in this election was voter turnout, especially from millennials.

    • Dazzer

I agree. Even though there’s no way in hell that I’d support Stein or her version of the Green Party, the Democratic Party is far too hung up on supporting the status quo when they should be prepared to get down and dirty.

      • I think the reasons why the Democrats haven’t pursue this, is they need some pretty hard evidence before letting loose a barrage of legal briefs to contest certain states. Al Gore had a pretty strong case in Florida in 2000, and for weeks he was branded as a whiner and a sore loser..

Even if there were serious questions and problems, the deficit is still wide enough for Clinton that she wouldn’t pick up thousands of votes needed to overcome Trump in Michigan, the closest race in the three contested states.

    • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

The Dems know that Donald Trump will be the next president and are probably putting together a strategy to block the worst of Trump’s cabinet nominations and SCOTUS pick. This fundraiser is a blatant dumb cash grab. The only thing that will come from this is Jill Stein gets more money.

      • Blake Jordan

Surely she cannot keep the money if she does not use it for the reason stated!!

Just go away, Jill. And stay away. If you feel the need to run for office anywhere ever again, fight it.

  • joe ho

Why? She should be celebrating. She said Clinton was more dangerous than Trump. So she has Trump. She was lying then or she’s lying now.

    • HoneyBoySmith

She was lying then or she’s lying now.

She’s nearly as big a con man as thin-skinned Trump.

    • Mikey

“She was lying then or she’s lying now.”

      Yes.

  • bobbyjoe

Philly Mike hits this below, but the more I think about this, the more I start to wonder where this is coming from. What good does it do Jill Stein to file a recount? Sure, maybe she’s gonna take the money and run, but let me propose another conspiracy theory:

Hillary needs a buffer if she wants a recount. She’s already conceded. If Hillary demands a recount, she gets pounded with “sore loser” attacks from the US media and the GOP. But if Jill Stein does this, then Hillary isn’t the sore loser’ she’s potentially the [cough, cough] “unintended” beneficiary.

So let’s indulge a whim for just a second. What do you do if you’re Hillary’s campaign? And what do you do if you’re Jill Stein and you want something more than money– you want actual political power. You make a secret deal. But Jill Stein hates Hillary, right? Well, not so fast. Hate has an interesting way of vanishing if there’s something in it for you. Like a prominent government position. Stein files for the recount. Along the way, anonymous donors start popping up in Stein’s GoFundMe or wherever. Hey! Looks like some rich lefties from [cough, cough] somewhere think this recount is a good idea.

After the recount, Stein either fails to overturn Trump’s election, in which case she hasn’t really lost anything and will have perfumed her reputation a bit with some lefties (not all, including me, but she definitely will with some) who’ll see her as a fighter who was tough about something the Democrats should have done themselves. And Hillary loses nothing she hasn’t already lost. But if the recount succeeds, and Trump’s toast, then Hillary can be all like “ohmigosh, I never expected this, but, oh my, if you insist I’ll be happy to accept the presidency.” And a few weeks later, Hillary starts “reaching out” to build a diverse cabinet and, lo and behold, who’s this? Jill Stein. Ugggggggggghhhh (but also, sort of, yay?* *I mean Trump is NOT the president in this outcome).

I’m just skylarking here, but considering the weird things that have happened this election, the above scenario would not surprise me in the least. It would be kind of a brilliant strategy, but also fucking nuts. So, since it’s 2016, the year where up is down and down is off somewhere in outer space, it’s probably true.

    • bobbyjoe

Just as an update to the end of my third paragraph, I’ll note that it’s not even 10pm EST yet on Wednesday, and Stein has already raised well over a million and a half dollars. There’s no doubt she’s going to hit her goal. There’s an update on her page about how the money is divided. You need the following filing fees to trigger recounts in the three targeted states:

Wisconsin: $1.1 million by Nov 25
Pennsylvania: $.5 million by Nov 28
Michigan: $.6 million by Nov 30

Stein is already at the point where she can file in two of those states, and it’s not even midnight on her first day of fundraising. And the money keeps pouring in in very regular increments. It’s kind of fascinating to watch. Again, in regard to the end of my third paragraph, do you think that all this money is coming from Jill Stein and Green Party supporters?

    • If Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Democratic Party felt there were serious issues with the voting in the three states, they would had raised a huge stink already. She can used her campaign funds to fund the battle, control the legal teams filing numerous motions in State and Federal Courts, and would do a much better job spinning any evidence in shocking terms..

They are not going to let Jill Stein take the lead on this, when Dr. Stein is just asking for money to gain entrance to the county courthouse to asked for the paperwork. They have much more at stake than a PR Stunt. The Dems would want to control the how their case is presented in court, and get the best Constitutional and election lawyers in the nation to help them. Dr. Stein will probably have some gadfly legal team, who will demand Bikram Yoga sessions as part of their compensation, (nothing against Bikram Yoga, which is super tough)

The issues that is really being raised is relying on electronic voting machines. I personally feel there should be uniform standards set by the Federal Government on paper ballots..

There is too much at stake if there were hard evidence and any chance to contest the vote count in three states to let a spoiler and fringe candidate like Dr. Stein have input in a recount.

Joe, will you eventually get over your butthurt over Bernie and Jill Stein? You Hillbots didn’t lose the election because of them, you lost because you suck at campaigning and your anodyne centrism doesn’t appeal in the 2010s.

    • andrew

Actually Hillary didn’t loose the election. She was chosen by about 64,000,000 voters. Her closest rival was Trump, who was the choice of about 62,000,000 voters. Unfortunately, the Founding Fathers left us with a rigged system, in order to get the slave states to join the Union. The fact that in last 16 years two people who were the people’s choices to be POTUS, didn’t get the job because a rigged system gave it to two less popular candidates is an assault on the very concept of democracy.

For once I gotta say yay to her myself, if Hillary and Obama won’t force the recount when several states were clearly thrown, then somebody else needs to. If she had’t, the DoJ needed to investigate. If something actually happened, and there’re reports that something ‘may’ have happened, then Hillary probably won. I don’t care if it throws us into a civil war taking away Trump’s win, we’ll put down any uprising, we cannot allow him to get in there.

Don’t listen to trolls saying the audit won’t change anything . If the polls were hacked or rigged can you “imagine “? πŸ˜‰

  • bobbyjoe

As of 2:50am, Stein has now achieved her goal of two and a half million dollars, and the money count keeps continuing to rise. I have to admit, it’s pretty impressive that she raised two and a half million in a little over 12 hours.

    • Librarykid

OK, given these filing fee figures From Bobbyjoe:

You need the following filing fees to trigger recounts in the three targeted states:

Wisconsin: $1.1 million by Nov 25
Pennsylvania: $.5 million by Nov 28
Michigan: $.6 million by Nov 30

and she supposedly has raised 3.4 mil, why is she still needing more moolah?

      • OdieDenCO

lawyer fees and I believe some if not all of the recount watchers salary. they were projecting $6 – $7 Mil total cost

  • sandollar_man

There’s only one thing that Trump said on the campaign trail, that he convinced me of – and that was how the election was gonna be rigged.
He said it over, and over, and over, and over …

  • Michael R

Yes , the recount goal has been met … I was reading some of the fine print thought , it’s a shame the process is so expensive …

Here are the filing fees and deadlines for each state:

Wisconsin: $1.1 million by Nov 25

Pennsylvania: $0.5 million by Nov 28

Michigan: $0.6 million by Nov 30

Those are filing fees alone. The costs associated with recounts are a function of state law. Attorney’s fees are likely to be another $2-3 million, then there are the costs of the statewide recount observers in all three states. The total cost is likely to be $6-7 million.

    • I would not give any money to Jill Stein on this pursuit. She would control it, any of these computer experts are not coming forward publicly with their complaints or fears. She wouldn’t benefit from a recount.

The candidate that would had benefitted, Hillary Rodham Clinton, has not stated anything, nor the Democratic Party has not pursued this. The Democrats could had filed numerous court orders, besides raise enough money to pursue a legal case.

I sadly see this as a PR Stunt by Jill Stein to keep her in the media spotlight.

      • Michael R

I’m interested to see how it plays out , I have no control over any of this of course .

        • OdieDenCO

me too. I tossed in $20. it may be a waste but I’ll take any ray of hope I can get.

Yep – since she’s the only one raising any real possibility to do this (democratic national committee… where are you??) I’m giving $20, too.

It’ll probably have the same result as the $20 I spend on Vegas trips for the penny slots but, heck… every once in awhile there’s a big payout.

  • OdieDenCO

wow! 3 mil as of 8am mountain. 1.5 mil raised in 12hours

  • DaddyRay

You know this is a brilliant way for the Green Party to get their hands on a good percentage of the Democratic Party mailing list by collecting all their information when they donate

    • OdieDenCO

the tree of liberty must be refreshed, from time to time, by the bits and bytes of spam and junk mail

      • DaddyRay

I gave my junk email account but since I gave my credit card they have my address and phone. I don’t have a problem with the Green Party if they put up some credible candidates and do the work.

  • OdieDenCO

4 mil at 13:45 mountain, Happy thanksgiving!

After reading a few these comments, I’d swear this was a Fox News website and not joemygod. I never thought the gay community could be as self defeating as the lowlife on the right.

lol, stick around, we’re great at sabotaging all possible future potential, why do you think it took so long to get this fucking far ?

  • Pohaku

If Hillary did this the press would be all over it as a sore loser syndrome…. so Stein is carrying the ball is my guess…. I think this is part of the plan to snatch victory out of the hands of the KKK, KGB, and Nazis. I can’t imagine Obama handing over the keys to the palace and military to the above without a fight…. history will not treat him well if he does. ( or Stein, as a spoiler that gave the country to fascism) By challenging, it will end up in court, and ultimately the Supremes. With 8, Obama can appoint Merrick given the vote for a year that was refused, and Senate will be in recess. They will find the hack came from Russia, so the court will have to decide given the tainted votes. Given Hillary is way ahead in the popular vote the the EC votes were tainted by a foreign power, she will be selected as the reverse of Bush V Gore. Just my take on how they will turn this around. Obama plays the long game. Muddy up the EV votes enough in 3 swing states to make them questionable, so the court will go with the popular vote. Either that or Trump and Bannon get the codes.

Didn’t she say that Hitlery was worse than Trump?

P.S.: Re the globalresearch story, see, β€œJill Stein Just Called…”, in the window on the left! I don’t know why the URL didn’t specifically LINK to the just aforenoted story! Apparently!… and unlike JMG, wherein I can both go back to a specific story through a URL, AND, look at an “Archived List”!… when a blog/ story is Posted by globalresearch, it gets β€œshuffled” to their β€œstory archives window” for subsequent review! It’s rare!… but, it sometimes happens!

Wow–the hate takes my breath as much as it does from the right. I was a Hillary voter and contributed $11 to this effort. What struck me on the donation page was not only how quickly the funds are being raised, at points well over $1K per minute, but how small the donations in general have been. This means literally millions of people are making a statement, and even if fruitless in terms of election outcome, it both expresses an opposition to it, and shields HRC from the attempting the same, which would make her look like a sore loser and be even more unproductive. I was totally turned off by JS through the campaign season, but even if it is just one piece of mobilizing grassroots in opposition to DJT and all he represents, I applaud it. Many people are taking part because they know what we are facing is profoundly effed up, and are grasping at anything they can.

Additionally, barring an unprecedented electoral college maneuver, the ramifications of which I both hope for and would dread, we otherwise have a scant two months until the incoming administration and all it represents comes into power. I suggest that we find the most constructive ways we can to make our voices heard and do everything we can at the front end to counter the mandate narrative being put forth by the DJT’s people. Call your reps, voice opposition–and ideally find ways to connect on the grassroots, citizens which stand opposed to DJT and all he represents. Our voices already don’t carry as much weight as we would like. It will be even harder after the inauguration. It’s not too soon to push back and draw our lines. And we have to find the most creative ways we can to do it. Doling out anger to people who didn’t vote like we did won’t help anything.
