AGAIN: Trump Lies About Ford Not Moving Kentucky Plant To Mexico, Which They Never Said They Would Do

Reuters reports:

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said Ford Motor Co Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr told him the automaker would not move a Kentucky plant to Mexico, but the firm said it informed him the decision was to keep one vehicle in U.S. production.

On Thursday, Trump posted on Twitter: “I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!” “He will be keeping the Lincoln plant in Kentucky – no Mexico,” the President-elect tweeted.

But Ford has repeatedly said it has no plans to close any U.S. plants and likely could not do so under the terms of the current United Auto Workers contract that expires in 2019.

This is not the first time Trump’s comments about Ford production have been called into question. Last year, he took credit for Ford moving work from Mexico to Ohio, while the automaker had already made the decision in 2011 – long before Trump announced a run for president.

“Called into question.” Oooohhh, Reuters. Really going out on a limb there. Is anyone in the media going to do its job?

      No.

Here’s why people say we live in a post-truth world: there are never any consequences to Trump’s lies. The media is unable to focus at all. There would have to be editorial control of a media outlet to identify a particular lie worth following and then keep that in the cross hairs. Instead, they happily just follow every new distraction and nothing ever sticks. Until media outlets learn how to focus, truth won’t matter. Likewise, Democrats need to learn how to focus intensely, or they need to beat the GOP at lies.

      • The Return of Traxley

        This.

The media reports on today’s lie, calls in the usual spokesgoblins and puts them mano a mano with a rational human, does it’s magic trick by creating a false equivalency, the shit flies, we go to commercial.

        Every damn day.

Pence and Bannon are running the show. Trump has chosen to nominate Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KN) as the director of the CIA, according to several Friday morning reports. I barely know who Rep Pompeo is, Trump certainly doesn’t.

Pence and Bannon have to let the president-elect do something!

      • parachihuahua

I guess it is a bit more safe than say, Snapchat. And when I think of all the things they should have him do, like read stuff or practice public speaking, I guess you’re right, it’s all they have that is sparkly to keep his attention.

      • Yixing’s Fluffer

Pompeo is definitely not getting through. With Sessions there’s a 10-15% chance, but Pompeo is some far-right crank from Kansas with absolutely no experience in the intelligence community.

        • PeterC

Right you are; and his personal intelligence is also lacking.

      • PeterC

Pompeo is a Right Wing asshole from Kansas. We certainly do not want him here. We are suffering enough.

    • ColdCountry

Twitter is how he won. The first thing you hear about something is what you remember. I used to train people in my manufacturing job, and it was very important to make sure you were correct the first time you explained something, because that is what sticks the most. Add to that the old adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” and he who speaks first wins the game in our post-truth society.

      • Duh-David

“He couldn’t say it if it wasn’t true!”

  • SoCalGal20

He also talked during the campaign about Ford moving production from Michigan to Mexico and that wasn’t true. The plant he was talking about is moving production of certain vehicles to Mexico but the plant will be making a different line of vehicles so no jobs will be lost.

  • Bared Bear

I would like to say that the honeymoon is going to be short between Trump and his Mad Max irradiated, inbred supporters but he could have both hands full and be caught mid-thrust and they’d still call him God Emperor.

    • My father-in-law made a comment along those lines, that many industrial workers in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania believe Trump is going to “bring jobs back” to those places, and that’s pretty unlikely. And yet, when it doesn’t happen, many of those folks will still support him.

      • The Return of Traxley

Because Donald has been doing his darndest to reopen the Packard plants, but the black guy ruined it beyond repair.

      • Ninja0980

Voters on CNN said as long as they feel he has their backs, they’ll support him.

        • Chuck in NYC

Translation: “We’ll continue voting for the party that most supports our racist views.”

      • grindstone

And the textile plants in the south, and the manufacturing jobs everywhere. Not going to happen (and I’ll GLADLY eat my words if they do). You are not going to be able to get a $15/hour job at the local whatever plant with your high school diploma, and you are not going to retire with any savings. Whatever savings you have will be eaten by medical bills long before you get to retirement age.

But hey, disaffected blue collar Americans: keep voting Republican. That works so well for you.

I live in KY and contacted the local media first thing this morn when I heard them perpetuating this lie. And our hideous baby trump Guv Bevin, another big tweeter, is twitting away, also trying to nab credit for this lie. Local news is presenting this lie as the truth.

  • bambinoitaliano

This is what he will continue to do. When there’s no intention of allowing certain refugees coming into the country, he will declare the success of banning Muslims. He will keep the status quo and just make up all the lies as his achievement and promises during the campaign.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

And let’s not forget that the CEO of Ford actually went on TV, prior to the election to make clear Trump was wrong about them moving a plant to Mexico.

Not only that, but as he made clear, it was their union contract that ensured that they couldn’t move plants out of the country.

Union. As in, those orgs that, while not without problems, fight for workers’ rights, and which Reagan and every republican since has demonized and attempted to destroy.

Is it just some weird part of us that holds out hope , or did it happen ?
Exit polls don’t match the results . Waiting to see .

        • JohnFS

Hi Michael, Weirdly, as you mentioned it, in an article I linked to MBear, in a previous thread, (re-linked below), US election monitors looking at elections in other countries declare a result invalid if the exit polls stray much from the actual resulting vote count, e.g. Ukraine in 2004. In your election the results were consistently around 4 – 6% out in the swing states, (and in other states), from the exit polls to the actual result. This discrepancy would have led the US to raise questions about election fraud in other countries – anywhere it seems but in the US. It’s worth your, and everyone else’s, time to read it.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Yes, and many Americans chose to go along with it. This can’t be laid solely at the feet of the Russians or Trump…the whiners on the far left played their part as well, as did the mendacious right.

  • The truth doesn’t matter. There is no link I can send to a Trump supporter that will convince them that Trump lied. All the links are to “the liberal media” and will be rejected. We are fucked.

    • AdamTh

The Trumpettes don’t seem to understand the concept of video either…

    • David Walker

Are there no liberal, progressive, dump Drumpf hackers? Seriously. I’ve been told during the last week that we have to think and act like the drumpfian assholes if we’re going to get anywhere. That would seem to mean embracing “post-truth” in all its glory. So, hack their websites and have the links, although maintaining the proper edress in the copy, go to a liberal, progressive, “Drumpf’s a dip shit” article. If we’re going to do this, then let’s do it.

    • Ninja0980

        Oh stop.

    • NancyP

Read Bob Altemeyer’s e-book, The Authoritarians. (there’s an article in wikipedia). Authoritarian followers (Trump voters) believe the Fuhrer in the face of contradictory evidence. If the Leader says the sun rises in the west, the followers will agree, no matter that you turn them to the east in the morning (See? Sun!). They are likely to say that the compass is broken. It is extraordinarily difficult to change the minds of authoritarian followers if the followers haven’t been personally betrayed by the Leader..

  • StraightGrandmother

He is truly a legend in his own mind.
And what is so sad is that people fall for his BS, it works, it really works.

  • The Return of Traxley

It’s never a lie if you truly want others to believe what you’re saying.

  • Ziad Baaklini

    Doesn’t this constitute government propaganda?

  • Brian in Valdosta

Tell me again how this person became president?

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Well you see, some millenials and aged out hippies thought it would be great to “stick it to the man” and vote solely on political ideological purity, including not voting or voting 3rd party, because again, purity; that and caring not one whit about the bigger picture. Then you had 46% of potential voters who just didn’t give a damn because really, they just didn’t fucking care. That left an opening for Trump and his goons to play the field. And that’s how it became president.

      • Nowhereman

Mostly it was our worthless free press. I supported Bernie, and I’m not an old hippie or millennial and I know better than to believe in a perfect candidate. Obama has been the closest so far. When Hillary became the nominee I voted for her. I’ve voted every goddam time since I became eligible in 1972. But then I also have an understanding of history and what happens when we ignore it.

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

You’re one of the sane ones AKA the sane left. Sadly, many of your compatriots chose a different path. But you are correct, the free press didn’t help…..or rather, it did, just the wrong person.

          • Nowhereman

I’ve been reading that a lot of the millennials who demonstrated after the election didn’t even vote AT ALL. Fuck them. Sadly, the rest of us don’t deserve this. I think that is probably the sort who were Bernie or Bust people. I was glad that he did as well as he did, but I vote every time for the best electable candidate when push comes to shove.
