NORTH CAROLINA: McCrory Files Election Protests In 11 More Counties Over “Fraudulent” Absentee Ballots

The Raleigh News & Observer reports:

Gov. Pat McCrory’s campaign team announced Wednesday evening that election protests are being filed in 11 more counties, further clouding the outcome of a close race in which the Republican governor trails.

McCrory, who lags roughly 5,000 votes behind Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper with some ballots yet to be counted, had already seized on potential problems in Durham and Bladen counties in casting doubt on election results.

Now his re-election campaign alleges fraudulent absentee voting may have benefited Democratic candidates in more counties. “These voter fraud concerns must be addressed before the results of the election can be finalized,” Russell Peck, McCrory’s campaign manager, said in a news release about the 11 new complaints.

Cooper campaign spokesman Ford Porter said there’s no evidence behind the allegations. “It is absolutely shameful that Gov. McCrory would make these unfounded claims,” Cooper campaign spokesman Ford Porter said. “This is the worst kind of misinformation campaign meant to undermine the results of an election the Governor has lost.”

Snark and all aside, I hope to hell that HRC is there with a battalion of attorneys backing EqualityNC to make sure this election does not get stolen. Here’s a chance for them to put their money where their mouths are and show that they are in battle mode for the coming onslaught of government efforts to shove us back in the closet.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

And it happens fast before Trump can stack higher court vacancies.

      • Boycott NC

In reality, the governorship of this red state will do nothing for gay people except make us feel good, but I guess that’s something.

        • tristram

And if he loses, McCrory will end up with a plum job in the Trump administration. But if he keeps the governorship after ramming HB-2 through, it will encourage other GOP govs to pull the same crap. They’re going to do it anyway, but this might give some of them second thoughts.

      • Guest.

Nope. The HrC would rather claim credit for the work of others and then celebrate with another cocktail party.

  • Stephen Elliot Phillips

republicans: sore losers and sore winners

    • Chucktech

You know why they’re sore winners? Because they know, deep down inside, that Trump was a horrendous, horrible, nightmare of an outcome for them as well as us. Hell, I’d be mad, too, if I were they.

      • Todd20036

And they’re mad because we aren’t. We live our lives on our terms.
No church tells us what we can wear, what we can eat, what we do on Sunday mornings, who we can fuck, who we can fuck on Sunday mornings in a church (I miss the Limelight)

      • Crystal Lynn Barcklay

no the republicans are sore winners because from day one they started seeing Trump filling his administration with the people he said he would drain the swamp of the white house of. Lobbyists Goldman Sachs executives and known bigots have been picked for his cabinet already. The very people Hillary voter have told the Trump voters he would cater to. And lets not forget the promise he gave rich dinners to cut their taxes while grabbing a bite. Wonder if her plans to make the same promise to low income McDonald dinners. I think not! So now all they have left is listen to the majority of American citizen voters who voted Hillary tell them I TOLD YOU SO! and there are more Hillary voter in the public then Trump voters. ha ha You may have got the electoral vote but now deal with those who make up the popular vote. Over 1 million popular votes went to Hillay over Trump

  • Mike C

    Get over it.

  • Silver Badger

So, the former governor of North Carolina is protesting getting fired by his own people. Poor snowflake.

    • Reality.Bites

He should sue for discrimination in state court… oh wait. HB2 doesn’t allow that.

      • William

That is bad, kicking a man when he is down. Hee-hee.

      • RoFaWh

Is it possible that HB2 has language that forbids McCrory from challenging the election results?

  • JaniceInToronto

“It is absolutely shameful that Gov. McCrory would make these unfounded claims,”

And does he give a shit if he’s lying?

    • IamM

      He’s a Republican, so no.

      • prixator

It’s a requirement because if they told the truth, very few people would vote for them.

    • D. J.

He lied about the real purpose of HB-2, so no surprise he lies about everything.

  • zhera

Oh, Pat. Can’t you see how bad this makes YOU look? Claiming election fraud (yeah, right!) all over the state of which YOU’re the Governor means only one thing: YOU committed election fraud (and voter supression) and can’t deal with the fact that you’ve been kicked to the curve.

I’ll savor every moment of your downfall, Pat. You’ve earned it!

    • tristram

If ‘kicked to the curb’ is what you call getting a nice, well-paid, no-stress job in the Trump administration. Believe me, they’ll take care of him.

  • PickyPecker
  • Chucktech

McCrory, who lags roughly 5,000 votes behind Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper with some ballots yet to be counted…

WHAT THE FUCK IS TAKING SO GODDAM LONG??? Jesus, North Carolina, what the fuck is the matter??

    Vote Count: “a-wun, a-tyoo, a-thray, a-for, gull dern it, I lowst count. Start over. a-wun, a-tyoo, a-thray…

    • Mark

Do you not realize how many rethugs have to take off their shoes and socks to count that high???

      • Chucktech

        And underwear…

        • TuuxKabin

          Underwears, plural.

  • Treant

He’s free to do so, but the optics aren’t good. Imagine what people would say if Clinton did this!

    • DaddyRay

Trump would be acting 100 times worse if it was him

      • Chucktech

And so would his basket of deplorables.

  • Chucktech

Gov. Pat McCrory’s campaign team announced Wednesday evening that election protests are being filed in 11 more counties

Yeah, I got some protests for you, NC, how about every fucking where you suppressed the poor and minority vote? Yeah, I got yer fucking protest, right here…

  • Texndoc

Just don’t get it. In an era when you can transfer money from one bank account to another completely different bank with a click how a week after an election there are “un-counted votes”. And in LA I read there are over a million Presidential votes “un counted”. Yeah, get out there and vote! One vote makes a difference!

    • Chucktech

In NC, they get a little confused when counting higher than 21…

      • Texndoc

Well what’s California’s excuse. As Chris Hayes tweeted, that means the number of uncounted votes in California is more than the number of people who voted in three states.

        • Mark

After the ballots were discovered to contain a carcinogen that can cause reproductive harm, safety apparel had to be ordered….

        • Dagoril

Trump lost California by over 3 million votes. Even if every uncounted ballot was for him, it wouldn’t matter. So no urgency in counting a million ballots in a rather liberal county like Los Angeles County.

          • Texndoc

True. But the popular vote victory for Hillary could soar. For historical purposes. As Lawrence ODonnell said “Do you know what every other country calls the vote? ‘The vote.'”

        • Chucktech

No argument. Other than the fact there were lots more votes to count in CA, but still, after this long, why aren’t hey counted?

    • sfbob

Almost 2/3 of California’s voters now vote by mail. Anything postmarked by Election Day and received no more than three days (apparently “business days” since the deadline this year was 11/14) after Election Day has to be counted. There are provisional ballots that have to be gone over manually. So it takes a good bit of time getting all those ballots counted and yes there’s a hell of a lot of ballots to be counted in California…over 11,000,000 counted as of last night.

    • Jerry

In most states, if an absentee ballot is postmarked on election day, then it will be counted. This applies mainly to active-duty military personnel, or other people out of the country. Also, any challenged or provisional ballots have to be ruled on, and this occurs in the two weeks following an election.

  • Rob

He is probably aiming to delay delay delay, so that the rethuglican NC legislature can pick him as the winner.

  • Bared Bear

This is why republicans win. They rig it on the front end or rig it on the back end. Relentlessly. They get the media and the hanging chads and the pepe frogs to unite in goosesteps and jabbing bayonets and sandy hooks over the rest of us until insanity is the norm and we’re silenced. And we just let them because we still think the world should be fair and that there are rules.

  • Dagoril

What a pathetic, delicate little snowflake. Loser. Sad!

  • William

Look here bitch, you lost in a state Trump won. People went out of their way to vote against you.

  • Bj Lincoln

While I can believe he is a sore loser, as most Repugs are, I can’t believe so many STUPID FUCKING NUTJOBS voted for him after all the damage he has done to the state. They really are a state of slow learners and/or bottom dwellers. Kudos to those bright and fair folks who got out there and voted in a better person for the job!

    • JustSayin’

The country ele ted grump so it is not a far stretch that a lot of NC assholes exist and voted for this d-bag shitstain

    • We are truly a country divided. The far right folks and the middle to the far left don’t process the same info and come to an answer that meshes. The GOP has done one bang up job of ripping our country apart. Sad to say, but to my view point, the only thing that will heal this bedrock deep rift is for WW3 to happen. Our country was drifting apart before WW2 and that caused us to need to pull together, and step over the rift, which is where we find ourselves now.

      • djcoastermark

The problem with a WW3 is that there won’t be anyone left to unite.

      • Ninja0980

Sad to say but some elements in our party have done the same.
When anyone that isn’t as far to the left as Bernie is a neoliberal corporate whore, hard to get any party unity.

        • Franciscan

Newsflash! Incidence of Neoliberal Whoredom Smaller Than Thought. Still way too high, though, in my opinion.

        • Totally agree.

  • MonochromeMouse

You passed bullshit laws that fucked up your state’s economy and ruined your state’s reputation with the rest of the country. You fucked up. You lost. Get the fuck over it.

  • Franciscus van Munster

It must really sting to have lost the race, in an election where Republicans won the White House and both chambers of Congress. What a sore loser

  • TexasBoy
  • D. J.

McCory: “but I surpressed all the ‘right’ voting districts….”

  • JustSayin’

Yeah all those three person county election biards in NC are staffed 2 Rs to 1 D. You just know those criminal Rs are riggin the vote against the incumbent R….there is a whole lot of stupid in this clown

  • Statistics Palin

Bitch, put on your big girl panties and find another job.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Hey Fox News, why aren’t you covering this whiny little snowflake.

  • Halou

    What a snowflake.

  • This is a small glimpse of what life would be like now if HRC had of won. Trump would be filing lawsuits going on the sycophant “news” shows to whine about the election being rigged and stolen from him.

Personally, I’d rather listen to that for 4 years than to live with the fear that January will bring.

  • I called it — I said he’d challenge results county by county.

  • Djurisk
  • RoFaWh

McCrory is so hysterical at losing because once out of office, there’s going to be dirt by the cubic yard come to light about him and his behavior in office.

  • Queequeg

Listen asshole, the people of North Carolina rejected you and your hatred. Now get out of the way.

  • Richard B

McCrory lost and he needs to slither under a rock and go away.
It is concerning that McCrory did not lose by a large margin.
This says a lot about the election in North Carolina and for a country that elected Donald Trump using the electoral college, not the popular vote.
The elections were very close and half of our country is unhinged.

  • Robert Conner

Personally speaking, I’m all for McCrory prolonging his humiliation for as long as humanly possible.
