TONIGHT: Hillary Clinton To Deliver “Closing Message” In Largest Single Ad Buy Of Campaign [VIDEO]

Via Buzzfeed:

The night before polls open across the country, Hillary Clinton will lay out her closing argument for a “hopeful and inclusive” vision in a two-minute direct-to-camera ad set to reach an estimated national audience of 20 million people.

“I think we can all agree it’s been a long campaign. But tomorrow, you get to pick our next president,” Clinton says, dressed in white, looking into the camera as the ad opens.

The choice on Tuesday, the Democratic nominee says, is a simple one: “Is America dark and divisive, or hopeful and inclusive?”

The ad was billed by a campaign official on Monday morning as a “personal and positive closing message,” following what has been a long slog of an election, some 18 months after two polarizing figures began their rise to the nomination — one a distrusted figure and mainstay of American politics, the other a divisive outsider defined by a campaign of offensive remarks.

The ad will run nationally during the two network television shows with the largest Monday audience, The Voice on NBC and Kevin Can Wait on CBS, the campaign official said. It amounts to Clinton’s single biggest ad buy and her first two-minute ad of the election.

I hate Two Broke Girls, but I’m a major fan of Jennifer Coolidge. She’s fantastic. Her cameo as a manicurist in Legally Blond is divine. 🙂

          “We both like soup….”

I love that movie. What’s odd in a way is that the gay male couple is the most functioninal relationship in the whole movie.

Good thing Melania got her face stream-lined.

      • Henry Auvil

I predict Melania and Barron will take refuge at the Slovenian Consulate tomorrow night. Trump Tower will not be a happy place once the results start rolling in. I picture faux Louis IV furniture being smashed all over the place.

    • Rillion

Absolutely unfair to label Barron as an anchor baby. With her marriage Melania has no need to have a child to get citizenship. The kid has out himself forward in this campaign and shouldn’t be maligned just because his father is a giant douche.

      • ShawnSwagger

I think he’s too young to be affected by an internet meme on JMG.

        • Rillion

Don’t think he will be affected or even notice it. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t cheapen and weaken the anti-Trump argument to be attacking his kid that is to this point remained out of it. Trump has plenty of other children with glaring faults that deserve public ridicule.

        • Capritaur

Isn’t he Trump’s head of cybersecurity?

          • ShawnSwagger

Ha! Wouldn’t that be a great plot twist in a Trump movie? At the very last scene, the camera slowly pans into a dark gol-spraypainted room in Trump Tower and the audience sees that it was Barron all along who was communicating on that server with the Kremlin.

  • EweTaw

If she wants, Hillary can throw a million $ at me to run up and down 1113th Avenue in SLC naked yelling “Vote for Trump. Vote for Trump.” It just might change a few votes in her favor. 🙂

    • danolgb

I think you have to go higher up or to the Cove to hit more GA’s homes. Also, try Federal Heights.

      • EweTaw

Yeah, but all the extra special white Mormon conservatives have to take 13th Avenue to get to and fro. Note: I had to correct my earlier post. I live on 11th and 10th and constantly write 11th when I mean 13th. 13th Avenue is a regular part of my daily jogging route that I follow down and then up City Creek Canyon. City Creek is the thing I would miss if I ever moved to a more sane and less oppressive State. If I ever move I’ll need to find a city that has quiet beautiful canyons that only five minutes from my back door.

        • danolgb

See! I knew 11th was way too low and somewhat liberal. Incidentally, I was having a picnic in City Creek while my Stake President was holding my disciplinary council hearing.

          • EweTaw

A disciplinary hearing? Were they deciding whether or not to hit you on the nose with a wet newspaper? I hope you had a selection of good wines to enjoy during your picnic. Also, hope you got out of the hive mind without too much damage. I’ve always been an iconoclast among the bretheren, ever since I was a small child. So, rejecting Mormonism and the peculiar ways of God’s special people hasn’t been too much of a problem. I’ve never lost sleep over it. However, I see young LGBT folks all of the time suffering the strangest guilt and self hate. One of the reasons I maintain gay Mormons are always damaged goods. Not all of them. But most of them.

Yes. City Creek Canyon. For many years I would go for a morning run in the warmer months and be rewarded with a clandestine sexual encounter with a delicious hunk of a man whose name I never learned. Sadly, he moved to Los Angeles. (sigh)

  • Alex in Idaho

I sincerely hope I picked our next president last week. Bring on the tacos, though!!

  • PickyPecker
  • Skokieguy [Larry]

The speech that Hillary didn’t ask me to write for her:

America, I understand that you’re angry. I understand that you think government doesn’t work.

But as you go to the polls tomorrow, please remember WHY. The Republican party pledged to block everything that our President wanted to accomplish. They shut down the government. They caused the sequester that cut funding for the military and critical safety net items. They let healthcare for 9/11 responders expire. Right now, the Republican led Senate is refusing to vote on a Supreme Court nominee who they themselves have said is qualified. And while complaining about the delays in our beloved Veterans obtaining healthcare, they voted against increasing funding.

So if you’re angry, good for you! The Republicans have shown how they run Congress when they have a majority. Its time to throw the bums out. Join me in making America better. Making government better. And making the lives of Americans better..

[How come the shut down is never mentioned in the campaign? How come the intentional decision by the Republicans to cause dysfunction is not a big part of the campaign?/

    • Alex in Idaho

My local congressional tea partier rep actually said that the shutdown was no big deal because nobody would remember it after 3 months. Maybe he was right. Next time, they need to do it until the Social Security checks don’t go out and the Medicare bills aren’t paid–THEN they’ll remember (maybe).

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

Its true. And why wasn’t this brought up? Why wasn’t the ‘one-term President’ pledge brought up? This is the least productive Congress in the history of our nation and all Hills did was say “I understand your anger” as if she and the Dems were equally responsible.

      • Larry Gist

In Indiana it has been a HUGE point in this cycle, Todd Young, one of our Reps voted for the shut down. Now he is running for the Senate against Evan Bayh and EVERY Bayh ad has mentioned that Young voted to shut down the government…

        • Alex in Idaho

It’ll be interesting to see how that comes out.

    • Do Something Nice

Good speech! Understanding anger is something that we haven’t communicated very well. That Republicans were able to steal that issue from us is the greatest heist of this century.

    • Ross

Your speech demonized Republicans. As they should be.

But, Hillary has been careful throughout the whole campaign NOT to demonize Republicans. She has kept her critiques focused on Trump, not the party.

As President she will need to work with the fuckers. Yes, this will likely be a losing effort, but if anybody can, Hillary can.

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

If this had been a bigger part of her campaign, maybe she could have flipped the House? At least the surrogates could have shouted Republican obstructionism from the rooftops.

And if she called them on their shit during the campaign, maybe they’d be (slightly) less likely to continue it, knowing there will be no Obama nice-guy period at the start of her Presidency.

      • Gerry Fisher

In order to get anywhere, IMO, she’s going to need to “clarify the obstruction and the cooperation” using the bully pulpit. People have forgotten how to get the three branches of government to work together…by voting to remove the ones who refuse to cooperate. Joss Whedon gave President H Clinton a prototype. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YibDgSd02Xk

          • danolgb

I suspect adding “And knowing when to take solace in a bottle” is inappropriate on that quote.

          • Prolly. 😉

I did look to find the version without the Jehovah reference… Plain point of fact though, I did do AlAnon for a few years back in the late 1980s — they’re the group for the friends and families of “problem drinkers.” The reason being because I was a classic co-dependent “heroic fixer”-type. I still kind of am, but at least now I’m aware of this tendency in myself and do my best not to indulge it. One angle I never bought was that this an ‘incurable’ condition, as I do believe everyone is capable of change, whether it be alcoholism or co-dependence. It’s mainly a matter of finding what works.

Anyway, it turns out AlAnon uses the same Serenity prayer for different reasons.

          • j.martindale

Or celebrate with a bottle on appropriate occasions.

          • Alex in Idaho

I’m betting the Trumpanzees will be pissed because the election was RIGGED–remember the reaction of the Faux News crew when Obama won? Total disbelief and talk of fraud. They could NOT believe it.

        • danolgb

There was another man who refused to concede to Hillary in the primaries and that has lead to crap like this:

          • Ninja0980

Yup, Bernie could have gone out gracefully.
Instead, he dragged it out and gave Trump plenty of ammo to use against her as well as likely driving some folks into his camp.

          • danolgb

I have a fairly good friend who absolutely believes the primaries were rigged and so he’s writing in Bernie. Bernie could have put a stop to all of that.

          • Hell of a slap in the face for Bernie, who asked his supporters NOT to do that. I mean, for fuck’s sake, if the Dems retake the Senate, he’ll be chairman of the Finance committee!

          • Ninja0980

Yup, instead he implied the whole time it was rigged against him and with WikiLeaks only too happy to push that narrative along, there will be a lot of stupid people like your friend and my cousin doing the same thing.
My cousin lives in a solid blue state though, hopefully your friend also lives in a state where it doesn’t matter.

          • danolgb

Yes, we both live in CA, but still, popular vote is a good indication on mandate and in this election we need every vote we can get to tell the rest of the world we reject Trump’s ideology.

          • Ninja0980

Sad to say but a lot of the Berniebots I encountered do in fact share Trump’s thoughts, at least when it comes to POC and LGBT folks among others being expendable.

          • TrollopeReader

            OFFS.

      • PLAINTOM

” I told you the election was rigged and that is why Hillary won. ” or something similar.

        • Yup.

          • danolgb

Making you believe the election was rigged is a way of delegitimizing the win. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time this has happened to her this year.

          • I know. Thing is, this has been a Republican tactic dating back to the first President Clinton. He was declared illegitimate because he won with a plurality but far less than a majority due mainly to Ross Perot. Then in ’96, he was deemed to be illegitimate because the GOP’s panty-sniffing investigations were in full-force, so they tried to impeach him.

Both the 2000 and 2004 elections were marred with the kinds of irregularities which, if they’d gone just a couple points the other way (or in Gore’s case less than 600 Florida votes his way), both Gore’s and Kerry’s presidencies would’ve been deemed ‘illegitimate’ by the GOPers.

2008, they decided they’d try to declare Obama — who clearly won the election — illegitimate via Birtherism. And in 2012, judging from Rove’s reactions on Fox News, the GOPers wanted Obama’s 2nd term to lack a mandate. Plus they never stopped the Birtherism bullshit.

What’s amazing is how throughout this whole generation of overt GOP attempts to delegitimize every Dem President, they systematically undermined the perceived legitimacy of their own candidates — and the integrity of the American elections system.

          • canoebum

The GOP couldn’t give two shits about America, its citizens rights or its system of government. All they care about is money and power. No lie, defamation, outrage or propaganda is beneath them in their pursuit of their own well-being. Fuck everyone else.

    • Tiger Quinn

    • ShawnSwagger

I think if McCain and Rubio survive in the senate but their states go for Clinton, which is looking likely, that those two plus Paul Ryan (and maybe McConnell) will concede “for Trump.” If this sounds like a crazy scenario, note that several Republican-leaning publications have actually been hypothesizing about this happening ever since Trump started with his “rigged” talk. Yes, there are even Republicans that are worried about what Trump will do to the country if he loses.

    • lymis

It’s a temporary distraction in the Oswald/Ed story line. They need to keep the drama up. Robin (Oswald) is gay IRL, I don’t think he’d take part in a gaybait plot.

    • Reality.Bites

No, it’s one of the most watched shows on Monday night at 8. They’re hitting this and the Voice, skipping Dancing with the Stars, Gotham and Supergirl. Dancing and Voice have far more viewers than Kevin. I’m not sure why they didn’t do an ad buy on Dancing as well.

Supergirl isn’t set on “our” Earth, unlike Flash and Arrow. Everyone knows the President of the United States is Linda Carter.

I just checked Electoral-Vote. We have a good chance of getting the senate back.

  • Snarkaholic

Her hair stylist is a god(dess)!!!

  • AW
    • Michael Smith

She said before that she would if the election in Florida was close.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Now if only voting for something non-gop became a habit. Because I don’t think the GOP will be nomming anything better in 2020.

      • Ninja0980

Nope, they’ll go back to using dog whistles.

    • shrumpi

Wow…so glad she’s not voting for her mother like she keeps saying… Thanks for sharing… I’m sure Scottie Nell Hag’s head is going to explode over this one (like a Mozel Tov Cocktail!!!!)

    • SFBruce

I’m not at all surprised, given her huge and often humorous contempt for Trump. With polls showing Trump has a chance to win Florida, there may be others who think like this.

Linda Chavez took a similar position a couple of weeks ago. I don’t remember where I saw her interviewed, but when asked for whom she’d vote, she said she definitely won’t vote for Trump, and she hoped she didn’t have to vote for Clinton. That’s all she said explicitly, but it seems obvious that she meant she’d vote for Clinton if it looked as though voting for a write-in or third party candidate would help Trump. I don’t know in what state she votes.

  • AndyinChicago

I know I have been critical of this campaign and Clinton herself, and I don’t want this to be chalked up to one more complaint. I’m voting for Clinton, and I like this ad, and I think the messaging is great. However…where are her pupils? It’s wigging me out a little bit that her pupils are bright white. I know, it’s the reflection of the lighting, but it’s a bizarre effect.

    • LackofFaithify

The lizard people of Zeta Reticuli do not have pupils as we would understand them. 🙂

    • Gustav2

Maybe she used Barbra Streisand’s lighting and camera people.

      • Reality.Bites

They’re the luckiest lighting and camera people… in the world.

    • avidreader

It’s a new-ish development. All the kids on YouTube are doing this. Makes one look like a star, I guess.

    • Treant

She’s concealing the fact that she’s a Lizard Person.

I, for one, welcome our coming Lizard People overlords and find their yellow pupils enchanting.

    • TK

It’s a Halo light if you watch enough YT vids you’ll start to think it’s a requirement that people use it.

    • Gustav2

And Glenn Beck knows “dangerously unhinged.”

    • Earl

      Now? He writes this now?

      Better late than never. 🙂

    • avidreader

Glenn Beck is now trending on Twitter because of this.

    • SFBruce

It’s encouraging that someone like Beck claims to have been inspired by Michelle Obama’s speech, which I thought was phenomenal. I like thinking it was truly heard by many people who might not ordinarily lean progressive. Of course, I’m sure Beck will be back with new, crazier than ever conspiracy theories in a few days, but I’ll enjoy this for now.

    • isn’t the Newyorker.com a satire site?

    • I’ve read the article. He seems sincere.

      • TuuxKabin

I heard him on the NPR interview . . . the jury’s still out.

  • bob

I’m a little anxious about tomorrow ! I don’t want trouble, but if there is, I’ll remember a movie quote from 1938’s Holiday when katherine hepburn says to her family ” Someone stop me; O someone please, just try and stop me! “

  • Michael McReavy

Off topic: I may be mistaken but I don’t think this news about HIV has been on here before. http://www.timesofisrael.com/israeli-scientists-see-breakthrough-in-aids-cure/

    • if that works, that’s pretty cool.

  • Treant

I’ve already assimilated her message and don’t need closure. I’m with Her.

    Still, good ad. 🙂

  • David Milley

Getting a little misty eyed, remembering my Mom and wishing she could’ve seen this.

    • SoCalGal20

When I vote I’ll be thinking of my grandmother who, during WWII, worked in the AC plant in Flint, MI building machine guns while raising two young children. (My grandfather was on an LST in the Pacific)

      • TuuxKabin

I’ll being giving her the vote for Emma, one of many Rosie the Riveters. She and my dad left So. AZ for the SF Bay Area to work in the shipyards. Maybe she riveted a bolt or two for your grandfather.

        • SoCalGal20

          🙂

  • Reality.Bites

This just up, Hillary Clinton with Tyler Oakley

    • Ross

      That was fun! Thank you!

    • SoCalGal20

      They’re so cute! Love!

    • Schlukitz

      Loved it.

  • MikeBx2

Monmouth gives her a 6 point lead today. This is going to be so good. 🙂

  • Gustav2

Polls on the final day of the campaign make it look like Trump is bouncing off the Clinton Wall one more time. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/621685532737472b13b52a8ba52120e63599ed0d032d9766e7cd5ac5e06ea4d6.jpg

If you have not voted GET OUT AND VOTE TOMORROW!

if you have voted go to the local dem or clinton campaign office. Drive people to the polls. Make phone calls getting out the vote.

Yep I know most have to work, but go in late, call in sick, leave early. Whatever it takes to get to vote!

Do not spend your day online, even here on JMG. Go out and help us win.

Our nation cannot afford trump. Gay people cannot affird trump. Women and Minorities cannot afford trump. The world cannot afford trump.

Your vote makes a difference. Do not screw everyone else because voting might be inconvenient for you.
    VOTE! and VOTE BLUE!

  • NZArtist

You fuckers all better vote Hills in or I’m gonna be mightily pissed. Dont make me come over there and kick your arse.

    • Acronym Jim

Why must you persist in threatening Tiger Quinn? /s

      • NZArtist

Okay, that made me Grin Out Loud. 🙂

  • fuzzybits
  • JellyDonut

I so need her to win!!!

  • LesbianTippingHabits

Nothing re tipping, and it’s a great ad for Hillary, but it has less than 1000 YouTube views while the equivalent for the Republican nominee is in the five figures.
