Fox Business Edits Obama Interview To Make It Look Like He’s Encouraging “Illegals” To Vote [VIDEO]

Mediaite reports:

Fox Business Network used a deceptively edited clip of President Barack Obama Monday to argue that the president encouraged illegal immigrants to vote, when in fact he had done nothing of the sort. FBN host Stuart Varney reported on story that he complained was getting “no media play at all, except here.” Varney played a clip of a November 4 interview with millennial Latino outlet mitú in which Obama “appears to encourage illegals to vote, and he promises no repercussions if they do.”

Here’s the transcript of the clip aired by Fox Business: HOST GINA RODRIGUEZ: Many of the millennials, Dreamers, undocumented citizens — and I call them citizens because they contribute to this country — are fearful of voting. So if I vote, will immigration know where I live? Will they come for my family and deport us? OBAMA: Not true… The sanctity of the vote is strictly confidential…

As it turns out, there’s a reason no other networks were covering the story: it isn’t accurate. Here was the full exchange, with the bolded parts representing the sections of the interview Fox Business edited out.

RODRIGUEZ: Many of the millennials, Dreamers, undocumented citizens — and I call them citizens because they contribute to this country — are fearful of voting. So if I vote, will immigration know where I live? Will they come for my family and deport us?

OBAMA: Not true. And the reason is, first of all, when you vote, you are a citizen yourself. And there is not a situation where the voting rolls somehow are transferred over and people start investigating, etc. The sanctity of the vote is strictly confidential in terms of who you voted for. If you have a family member who maybe is undocumented, then you have an even greater reason to vote.

As you can see below, Fox’s fakery was gobbled up unquestionably across Teabagistan. So far only Allen West has deleted his original screaming post.

  • danolgb

I saw that going around Facebook this weekend.

    • Which means thousands of people will see it and only a handful of them will verify it. People say the internet promotes critical thinking and disseminate truths; It doesn’t.

      • danolgb

And no one even bothers to understand the actual process of voting. When you register, you’re registration is checked against citizenship rolls to verify you’re eligible to vote. You don’t even appear on the voter rolls if you’re not eligible. You can’t just walk in. But fear mongering is what the right wing does best.

        • boatboy_srq

In their world it’s a multifactor thing: illegal voters just walk in, and corrupt polling officials let them vote. Hence the Grand Scheme framing, and the insistence that Voter Fraud (eleventh-one!) is widespread.

Fox News edited something to make Obama look bad?
    Perish the thought!

    • Ross

Recently, I talked with some Fox watchers. They insisted that Fox was fair and balanced. “That’s why we watch it!”

I asked: “In eight years has Fox ever said anything nice about Obama? Anything? Ever?”

They all thought for a few moments. All said no. “But he’s so terrible!”

I asked: “In eight years did Fox ever say anything negative about Bush?”

They all thought for a few moments. All said no.

I responded: “You are intelligent people. Right?” They nodded. “Now, please USE your brain! And tell me how Fox NEVER criticizing a Republican president and ALWAYS criticizing a Democratic president is fair and balanced?”

This actually got through to them.

Which was good, but I still deserve a prize for not smacking them.

      • Rex

Next time, smack them. Prize or not.

        • Ross

I am cursed with really good self control. Sigh.

      • Ben in Oakland

I will send you a prize. Just go to Cracker Jack Central to claim it.

      • Talisman

There’s still a prevailing notion among the low-information folks that the news cannot lie – that there’s a law that actually makes lying illegal. And then they conflate “opinion shows” with “news shows”, so that they think Hannity or Limbaugh simply cannot lie.

And that extends to the Internet – the printed word is sacrosanct, so if it’s in written down, it must be true.

You might have made them think for a moment or two, but they’ll continue to was Fox, and fall back again into their comfortable bubble where Obama & Hillary are demons reeking of sulfer and Trump is an angel scented of economic success.

  • james1200

Hmmm….it almost seems like they’re a propaganda outfit rather than a news network.

In a just world they would lose their broadcast license over this.

      • secretlab

Cable news stations are not licensed by the FCC. 21st. Century Fox’s over the air TV station licenses are unlikely to ever be pulled by the FCC, unless there’s a challenge to their renewal. Opponents to license renewal would have to prove extreme corporate misconduct in order for that to stick. Unfortunately.

Imagine what a Trump News Network will do to President Hillary Clinton’s words in upcoming election seasons. On second thought, don’t imagine that. Just enjoy her historic victory tomorrow. We’ll cross one bridge at a time.

Perhaps this is a preview of Republican politics after they lose the election: take advantage of “dishonesty fatigue”. Blame others, obstruct, and lie. If confronted, triple down.
    Just remember: they built this.

    • David L. Caster

This is where Hillary has to avoid the mistakes of Obama. She and her administration must call out the lies and correct the record on a regular basis. Press conferences, and regular national addresses must keep the spotlight on the dirty tricks and disinformation of the Right and its mouthpieces.

  • BearEyes

But the only thing they know how to grab is pussies.

  • kevway

    Isn’t THIS against the law??

    • Scott Fitler

I know — isn’t there any way to punish this sort of thing? This kind of editing where someone deliberately distorts and changes what someone says is way out of control.

    • Probably not. In other nations it might be but not in the USA. Our freedom of the press and speech defends conduct like this — and the right for organizations like the KKK and the Nazi Party to publish rags also. Libel law protection is hard to use if you are a nationally known political figure. The USA has some of the most tolerant publishing and speech laws in the world. Anything goes just about — including the publishing of what would be considered hate speech in other nations. My friends from Europe were shocked that a nazi swastika was a legally protects symbol in the USA. You could not have a National Enquirer or Fox News running articles on like this in the vast majority of other nations.

    Re: Trump taking Michigan

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) declined to say which presidential nominee he would be voting for on Election Day, CNN reports.

Said Synder: “I keep that to myself in terms of how I vote, but I’ll be out there voting with my wife and looking forward to it.”

So who is going to get fired at Fox Business for this deceptive interview? Was it a rogue person, or was it more than that? People should be demanding names!

  • The_Wretched

One of the problems I have in talking to my coworkers who listen to the right wing media is that they are filled with lies / errors in their basic fact set. When every conversation quickly devolves into ‘let’s get the full transcript’, it’s the end of communication. Worse, after spending too much time fixing one person on one fact, they still only half believe the corrected version and don’t propagate among their peers on that side.

The democratic political machine needs to learn that Fox is NOT their friend. I blame it on Obama ! What the hell is he doing going
on the propaganda network in the first place. Apparently, Obama hasn’t
heard of editing tape, and the Faux propaganda machine is good at it.
Obama need to stop playing up to Republicans….they don’t like him … period,
they like the racist tRump. But, you would think by now he would have
learned that. The next time Faux news calls for an interview
he should just ignore them and go golfing, I’m sure he will get a lot more
    pleasure from golfing.

    • Rillion

He gave an interview to a latino media outlet, not Fox. FBN (Fox Business News) took the footage and edited it in a deceptive manner then broadcast it. So he didn’t give Faux an interview here. The only way to prevent Faux from deceptively editing his comments would be to no give any public speeches or interviews and if he does that then they win by default.

      • Bad Tom

So FBN might have a copyright issue with this footage they stole.

  • kevway
  • walterhpdx

Meanwhile, the story may not be on Fox Business’ website, but there’s still a report of Jan Brewer (R, AZ) discussing this “potentially illegal activity”. Link:

Like how they don’t have a way to comment (at least that I can see)?

  • Galvestonian

It’s kind of odd … I’ve automatically stopped believing or even listening to anything coming out of the Trump side of the election. The soundbites, the lies, the distortions just slide off of my mind like rain off of a ducks back. Whatever comes out of any of these leaches, these syncophants, these lying scum sucking soul sellers is automatically shunted to babble noises — bla, bla, bal, bla, bla – BLA ! I’m damn tired of their evil black hearted lies. I was actually getting nauseous listening to them. I had to tune them out.

  • Richard B

Instead of calling them FOX Business Network, maybe a name change to Republican Propaganda Network, would be more clarifying…

  • HZ81

    Jesus, they just freebase lies.

  • I would love for a President Clinton to shut Fox News out and ban them from White House Press Conferences, for example, under current management and ownership. She should at least have her office refuse to send them media press releases and turn down all interviews. However, knowing how magnanimous she is, she will probably overlook this conduct and ask Director Comey to stay. Her career as Senator and Scty of State was all about building bridges with people who do not agree with her. And her victory speech will indicate this. I am not sure reaching out is the best strategy but this is her style — opposite how the right portrays her.

    • Bad Tom

And she will be punished for her magnanimity, just like President Obama was.

  • Nasty Girl Brianna

In Trump’s America, we will twist your words to use against you and force you to admit your guilt which has been predetermined without your input. Hmm, kind of sounds like every totalitarian dictatorship everywhere.

The President is good-lookin’ man. Just as long and lean. That band leader on Stephen Colbert’s show is also long and lean. His name is John Baptiste, I think. Both of ’em are like long chocolate tootsie roll sticks.
